Shinsou had promised himself he wouldn’t make friends, let alone get a lover. But here he was, kissing Kaminari Denki in the common room of the class 2-A dormitories. How the two seemingly bipolar opposites got together is both a funny story; and it was mostly because the blond is way too stubborn for his own good.
The day Kaminari knew he wanted to bring the insomniac boy into the class 2-A group, he consulted the two boys who have already befriended the two worst personalities in the class; Midoryia and Kirishima. The three of them were playing video games in Kaminari’s room when he blurted out the question.
“How did you guys become friends with Bakugou and Todoroki?” The question surprised the boys- even making Midoryia run his character off the road.
“What do you mean?” the green- haired boy asked. The blond threw his controller down, forgetting about the game, and faced the rest of the traffic light trio.
“They both have… disagreeable… personalities, but you two deal with them just fine,” Kaminari said. “How’d you do it?”
“But you're also friends with Bakugou,” Krishima said, but he made it sound like a question.
“Well, sure, but I’m not as close as you are to him,” Kaminari explained. Midoryia and Kirishima looked at each other in consideration.
“Truth be told,” Midoryia started, “I think all I needed to do was punch Todoroki really hard as I yelled at him.”
“I just pestered him a lot and somehow earned his respect,” Kirishima said.
Kaminari sighed and fell onto his back. “I don’t think either of those ideas will work with Shinsou,” he mumbled.
“Wait,” Midoryia said, leaning over the blond’s face, “you’re trying to befriend Shinou?” Kaminari nodded.
Kirishima grinned and leaned over as well. “Dude! That's great! Now he won’t be completely alone anymore.”
“But he keeps brushing off my ‘bro’ advances,” Kaminari complained. He kicked his legs into the air and groaned in frustration. Midoryia looked off to the side, making his iconic thinking face.
“Shinsou is very different from Todoroki and Bakugou,” he mumbled, “though, he does seem to have a difficult personality like them. He reminds me of Aizawa Sensei though.”
“You could ask Yamada Sensei,” Kirishima suggested. “They have been friends since high school.”
Midoryia nodded in agreement. “Yamada Sensei has a similar personality to yours, so he could definitely be of some help.”
“Seriously?” Kaminari asked, perking up and leaning on his elbows as he looked up at his friends. The other two boys nodded.
“You could also ask Aizawa Sensei as well,” Midoryia said.
“Asking Shinsou’s classmates and teachers about him could give some more insight on what he’s like,” Kirishima added.
“I’ll do that then! I’ll probably start with Yamada Sensei though.” Kaminari sat up completely and hugged his traffic light bros. “You guys were such a huge help.” The other two hugged back just as enthusiastically.
“Glad to have been of some help,” Midoryia said.
“Of course, bro. That’s what friends are for,” Kirishima grinned.
After English class, Kaminari stayed behind to ask Present Mic his question. “Uh, Yamada Sensei?”
“Yes Kaminari?” Present Mic could see the hesitation in his student and became instantly worried. “Is something the matter?”
“Oh no,” Kaminari said quickly, “nothing is wrong. I just have a… um… weird question.” Present Mic relaxed, happy it wasn’t a serious problem.
“Ask away.”
Kaminari took a few seconds to try and figure out how to ask. He decided to just come out and say it- rip it off like a bandaid. “How’d you become friends with Aizawa Sensei?”
Present Mic blinked a few times before he started to laugh. “What brought this up,” the older blond asked.
Kaminari took a deep breath before saying, “well, it’s come to my attention you are similar to me and Shinsou is similar to Aizawa Sensei, and I’m trying to become friends with Shinsou, but he’s dead set on being alone, and I don’t know what to do.” Kaminari sighed when he got all of that out in one breath. Present Mic laughed once again.
“I have noticed you hanging around Shinsou more lately,” Present Mic said. He thought about Kaminari’s question for a moment. “I’m not exactly sure actually. I guess I was just there?”
Kaminari groaned.”Why is this so hard?” Present Mic watched his student with curious eyes.
“What makes you think Shinsou really doesn’t want to be left alone?” he asked.
“He looks sad,” Kaminari said. “I don’t think I’ve seen him smile out of true happiness, and I really want to see it.” Present Mic’s heart did flips from the pure and innocent response. It is truly a Kaminari goal.
“You could try talking or doing things he enjoys,” Present Mic suggested. Kaminari grinned.
“Of course!” The younger blond smacked his forehead. “Such a simple answer. Don’t know why I didn’t think of that.” He ran for the door and shouted a thank you before closing the door behind him. Present Mic chuckled as he waved his student off.
The next time Kaminari saw Shinsou, it was lunch time that same day. The blond was already half way done with his lunch at the Bakusquad table. The second he saw Shinsou’s lilac hair, the blond shot up out of his seat.
“What the fuck are you doing?” Bakugou growled.
“I’m going to invite Shinsou to a Marvel movie marathon,” he said. Before anyone else could say anything, Kaminari was already gone.
Shinsou just sat down when Kaminari slid into the seat next to him. “Hey!” The sudden arrival of the blond made the taller boy yelp in surprise and nearly threw his tray across the lunch room.
The lilac-haired boy stared at the energetic boy accusingly. “Where the hell did you come from?” Shinosu asked.
Kaminari pointed towards the Bakusquad table. “Over there.” Shinou followed where he was pointing. He could see Kaminari’s friends all staring at him with varying emotions on their faces. They were mostly intrigued by what was happening.
“I didn’t mean to scare you,” Kaminari said, turning so he was facing Shinsou at an angle. “I’m sorry.”
“It’s fine,” Shinsou said, focusing back on his food, “I should have been paying more attention to my surroundings.”
“So… I was thinking-,” Kaminari started.
“Don’t hurt yourself,” Shinsou mumbled. That earned him a soft slap to his arm.
“Wanna come over to the 2-A dormitories for a Marvel movie marathon?” Shinsou raised an eyebrow at the offer.
“I thought I made myself clear when I said I’m not trying to make friends with anyone in your class,” he said. The taller boy felt like a broken record.
Kaminari waved him off. “Use this as a way to see your competition in their natural habitat,” the blond said, adding jazz hands to emphasize what he was saying. Shinsou stared at the other boy’s hopeful face with a look that said ‘is that really your pitch?’
Shinsou was about to decline the blond’s offer, but Kaminari gently grabbed his arm and said “please” in the softest voice Shinsou had ever heard him use. The boy sighed and nodded.
Kaminari grinned and jumped up. “Sweet! I’ll see you around five tonight.” Shinsou watched the energetic blond skip back to his table, a dopey look on his face. A small smile crept onto his face. That was when the lilac- haired boy knew Kaminari was going to be a force he wouldn’t be able to escape.
Kaminari never meant for the marathon to become a class event, but he doesn’t mind. Word got around and soon the entirety of class 2-A was working together to get the common room ready.
Midoryia volunteered his movies in order to fill in the gaps of Kaminari’s collection. The blond boy was grateful. Bakugou insisted on making the snacks himself, claiming he makes the best treats and didn’t want anyone else fucking them up. Aoyama and the girls offered their extra blankets and pillows to create a more comfortable area to watch movies in.
Shinsou arrived about fifteen minutes before five. He knocked gently on the room's door. Tokoyami was the one to answer, being the only one who heard it. “Shinsou is here,” the bird boy called. Kaminari, who was helping Jirou plug in his dvd player to the TV, instantly perked up.
“Shinsou!” The blond jumped up, scaling over the couch instead of walking around it, and ran over to the lilac- haired boy. “I’m so glad you made it.”
“I said I would come.” Shinsou allowed the blond to drag him towards the couch.
“Yeah, I know,” Kaminari said, beaming up at the taller boy, ”but that doesn’t mean I can’t be happy about it.” Shinsou made a ‘fair point’ face, which made the blond giggle.
“Got it,” Jirou cheered. The rest of the class shouted in victory and made their way towards the TV to find their spots. Kaminari pushed Shinsou onto the couch and claimed the spot next to him.
Midoryia handed the first movie to Jirou before finding his seat next to Todoroki on one of the large chairs. Next to them- on the other side of the couch Shinsou and Kaminari were sitting on- was Uraraka and Iida.
“We’re gonna watch the movies in the Marvel timeline,” Kaminari said. Shinsou nodded.
“Cool. I haven’t actually seen Captain Marvel yet,” Shinsou said, “so I’m glad it's the first movie.”
Bakugou came in holding two trays, putting them onto the table in the center of the furniture. He was followed by Kirishima holding two other trays and Sero holding one. “Captain Marvel is one badass lady,” the angry blond declared.
“She’s our Marvel queen,” Ashido added. The rest of the Bakusquad arranged themselves at the foot of the couch. Ashido sat between Shinsou’s legs, and Bakugou was next to her. Kirishima sat on the other side of the blond and Sero was next to him.
“I must agree,” Hagakure said. Her voice startled Shinsou since she was right behind him. She quickly apologized and placed a hand on his shoulder. He figured this was her way of making her presence known to him. He watched her walk in front of him, dancing over the Bakusquad’s legs (which he could tell from her socks she was wearing), and took the empty spot between Uraraka and Kaminari.
Once the movie was in, Jirou made her way to the chair next to Shinsou. The punk girl found her place on Yaoyorozu’s lap and she placed her legs on Asui’s lap, who was next to the tall, raven haired girl.
“Momo!” Mineta cried. “Let me sit on your lap too!” He ran towards the girls’ chair, but got a face full of Jirou’s foot.
“Absolutely not,” she growled. Mineta ended up in a spot in front of the table. Shinsou saw Yaoyorozu mouth a thank you to the punk girl, who just shrugged.
The rest of the class situated themselves on the floor, all laying on the ground in varying positions. The floor group took most of the pillows, but they were kind enough to share the blankets with the teenagers on the couch and chairs.
As the movie marathon progressed, the clingier class 2-A got with each other. Kaminari was halfway on Shinsou’s lap, curled up to his chest. The two boys were sharing a blanket Ashido handed them by the fourth movie.
Shoji, being the one closest to the dvd player, was tasked to switching out the dvds and pushing all the buttons. It was difficult to do because he had Tokoyami and Aoyama hanging onto him for warmth. The multi-armed boy asked them multiple times to let go so he could do his job, but each time, they refused and hugged him tighter. It was funny to watch the larger boy struggle while having the two most dramatic students (for very different reasons) clinged onto him. Shinsou could also tell Kaminari found it humorous from the shaking of his shoulders.
Asui at some point joined the dog pile on Shoji, but she was kind enough to release him when he needed to change the movies. By her moving, it allowed Yaoyorozu to shift so Jirou’s butt was actually on the chair, but her legs were still on the taller girl.
Hagakure and Uraraka insisted on using Iida as a body pillow as well- much to his dismay, but they weren’t taking no for an answer. Iida finally gave up on trying to convince them otherwise and adjusted himself so he was laying down on the couch. Both girls were happy with this arrangement. Iida wrapped his arms around their waists to make sure they didn’t end up falling off of the couch. Sero helped out by throwing a blanket on top of the trio.
Midoryia and Todoroki had a blanket themselves since the movie marathon started. Their feet were tucked up under it and it was pulled up to their noses. From the shape under the blanket, one could only assume Midoryia was somewhat on Todoroki’s lap.
At the foot of the couch was a dog pile on Bakugou. Ashido was using Bakugou’s left shoulder as a pillow and she wrapped her leg around his waist and was hugging him. Sero was using Bakugo’s right shoulder as a pillow as well, but he didn’t wrap himself around the blond boy. Bakugou’s arms were loosely wrapped around their shoulders. Kirishima was sitting between the blond’s legs, his head right under Bakugou’s chin, and he was careful not to crush Ashido’s leg. The three on Bakugou each had a blanket, but tried to cover him as well. Shinsou was surprised by the domesticity in the usually loud and angry blond, but he found the peacefulness enjoyable.
By three in the morning, most members were asleep. Shinsou and Kaminari were two of the four who were still awake.
Midoryia went to go turn off the TV and dvd player, but found he was trapped. Todoroki was hugging the green- haired boy to his chest, and Midoryia really did not want to wake him. He turned towards Jirou and asked her to do it instead.
She nodded and carefully crawled off of Yaoyorozu so as not to wake her. “Thank god it’s the weekend,” she mumbled. The punk girl carefully stepped over the sleeping forms of her classmates and turned off the dvd player and the TV. She then carefully made her way back to the chair and crawled back onto it in the dark.
Kaminari looked up at Shinsou and said, “you can stay the night.” Shinsou raised an eyebrow at the blond. “I mean, I know for a fact we’ll continue the marathon when most of us are awake anyways.”
“Sounds like you’re inviting me to a sleepover,” Shinsou said jokingly, “which is a very friend- like thing to do.”
Jirou snorted. “You already agreed to a sleepover when you agreed to the marathon,” she said. “He’s just asking out of courtesy.” Midoryia tried to hide his laughter behind his hand, but was failing miserably.
“Good thing I wore sweats then,” Shinsou said. Kaminari grinned and shifted so he was using Shinsou as a pillow.
“Goodnight boys,” Jirou said. The other three gave their own versions back. The last thing Shinsou remembers was thinking being friends with this group wouldn’t be so bad. Soon, the only noise was the quiet snoring of the sleeping teenagers.
Shinsou woke up to the smell of battery acid and a heavy weight on his chest. The lilac- haired boy groaned and slowly opened his eyes, only to see a mop of bright yellow hair. During some point while he was asleep, Shinsou’s legs ended up on the couch and Kaminari ended up on him. Shinsou groaned again, looking up towards the ceiling. He shifted slightly and the sleeping boy on him whimpered. Shinsou froze immediately.
There was snickering behind him. Shinsou craned his neck to see Ashido and Kirishima looking down at him with smirks. “You look comfortable,” Ashido teased.
“Not really,” Shinsou grumbled.
“You could always wake him,” Kirishima pointed out. Shinsou looked down at Kaminari and then back at the duo.
Ashido gave him a knowing look. “You can’t, can you?”
“He looks so peaceful,” Shinsou mumbled,” and I really don’t want to disturb that.” Ashido and Kirishima chuckled.
“Just give it a few minutes,” the redhead said.
“He’ll wake on his own,” the girl finished. Iida called for the two and their faces disappeared. They were replaced with Midoryia’s.
“What do you want for breakfast?” he asked. “There’s pancakes, sausage, eggs, and a few other things. If you have any dietary restrictions, Sato could make you something else.”
“Pancakes will be fine,” he said. Midoryia nodded and disappeared.
Shinsou leaned back and closed his eyes. He could feel Kaminari’s steady breaths, and it was very soothing to the taller boy. It was rare as well. The blond was always full of cheerful energy, so peaceful moments like this were always welcomed.
Kaminari shifted and nearly fell off of Shinsou and the couch. The lilac- haired boy’s eyes snapped open and he was quick to catch him. Shinsou sighed in relief. In order to make sure Kaminari didn’t fall off, Shinsou just kept his hand on the blond’s hip.
Kaminari finally woke up twenty minutes later. “Good morning, Sleeping Beauty,” Shinsou teased. Kaminari groaned and sat up slightly, coming face to face with Shinsou.
“Good morning,” he grumbled.
Shinsou poked his cheek. “Will you get off me now? I’m hungry.” Kaminari grumbled and layed back down on the lilac- haired boy’s chest.
“No,” he moaned, “warm.” Shinsou chuckled.
“There’s pancakes,” Shinsou said, poking Kaminari’s cheek again.
The blond let out a long sigh before he said, “fine.” Kaminari sat up, straddled Shinsou’s hips, and stretched. “What time is it?”
“Nine thirty-two,” Kirishima called from the kitchen.
“Thank you!” Kaminari looked down at Shinsou with a grin. “Sleep well?”
“About as well as someone can with another person on top of them.” Shinsou tapped the blond’s thigh. “Now off.” Kaminari laughed and flipped over the back of the couch. Shinsou followed him to the kitchen.
Bakugou handed them each a plate that had pancakes, bacon, and eggs. Shinsou thanked him and sat down at the table. The angry blond just grumbled. “Thank Sato, he made them.”
Shinsou watched the class chat among each other. A few were still asleep- including the pile of bodies on Shoji- but from the ones who were awake, Shinsou could see just how close they are with each other. It was nice to watch, especially the cheery blond.
“He’s hard not to like,” a voice said behind him. Shinsou turned to see a grinning Sero.
“What do you mean?” Shinsou asked. The raven took the seat next to the insomniac boy.
“I mean Denki,” he said. “His personality makes him an easy person to get along with.”
“He’s more pushy than anything,” Shinsou mumbled.
Sero laughed. “He has a lot of love to give. He’s a people pleaser.”
“Why is he so set on me, though?”
“It’s because he likes you,” Ashido said. She came up behind Sero and was now leaning on his chair.
“Yeah, but like, why?” Shinsou asked.
“Only Denki knows,” Sero answered. The three of them looked up at the said blond, who was chatting happily with Kirishima. Shinsou decided to ask him when he found the right moment to do so.
He never got the chance until the next day after another round of Marvel movies. Shinsou ended up staying another night and the group finished the movies the next day. During the end credits of Spiderman: Far From Home , Shinsou watched class 2-A head back to their rooms or towards the showers.
Kaminari was sending him off. “I’m glad you came,” he said while standing in the doorway.
“I forgot the Marvel movies add up to over two days of pure watching,” Shinsou mumbled. The blond giggled, and Shinsou had to resist the urge to smile.
“You’re always welcomed over here, you know,” Kaminari said.
Shinsou huffed out a laugh and crossed his arms. “Why do you insist on this?” he asked.
The electric boy shrugged nonchalantly. “You’d make a good edition here.” Kaminari wasn’t willing to say he just wanted to see the taller boy to genuinely laugh.
“I’m not in your class, and you’re all competition to me.”
“We’re all rooting for you.”
Shinsou blinked in confusion. “Why?”
Kaminari grinned and leaned forward. “We need a good purple boy instead of that perverted grape.” Shinsou laughed at that. Kaminari grinned.
“You have a nice laugh,” the blond said. “It’s a shame you don’t do it more often.” Shinsou’s face tinted pink. Kaminari grinned even wider. He just found his new favorite thing. “Adorable.”
Shinsou pushed the blond’s face away. “Shut up. I’m not adorable.” Kaminari grabbed his wrist and pulled Shinsou’s hand away.
“You totally are,” he teased.
Shinsou sighed, giving up on the conversation. “I’m gonna go now,” he said. Kaminari waved goodbye as Shinsou disappeared.
Everyday since the movie marathon, Kaminari came up to Shinsou during lunch. At first, Shinsou hated it and wanted him to stop, but as time passed, he came to enjoy the blond’s company. Shinsou had a suspicion this was going to happen anyways. Kaminari seemed like the type of person who’d always want more once he got a taste.
But Shinsou couldn’t keep this question out of his head. He knows he already asked, but for some reason, Kaminari’s answer didn’t satisfy him. So, the moment Kaminari slid into the seat he usually took when he bothered Shinsou, the taller boy asked him his question. “I know I already asked this, but why me?”
“Because I like you as a person. I want to get to know you better.”
“That’s it?”
“That’s it.” Shinsou stared at the blond for a second, still not satisfied with the answer, but just grunted and turned to his food. He doesn’t really know what he was expecting.
“So, um.” Kaminari said after a beat of silence, “You wanna go to the arcade with me, the rest of the traffic duo, and their partners?”
“Who now?” Shinsou was thoroughly confused by Kaminari’s nicknames for his classmates majority of the time.
“Midoryia and Kirishima- the green and red in our traffic light trio- and Bakugou and Todoroki,” he explained.
“That’s a disaster waiting to happen,” Shinsou pointed out.
“I know,” the blond said while grinning. “It’s going to be amazing.” Shinsou gave him a suspicious look.
“You are a catalyst for chaos and destruction.”
“Why thank you!” Kaminari gave him a mock bow. “It’s what I do best.” Kaminari leaned close to Shinsou’s face. “So, are you coming?”
He nodded. “Yeah, I’m in.” Kaminari whooped and bounded for the Bakusquad lunch table.
Shinsou was right in calling this a disaster waiting to happen. The second Bakugou caught sight of Midoriya and Todoroki, he started yelling. Midoryia and Bakugou ended up getting into a fist fight before they even got to the arcade. Kirishima was trying to keep order within the group, but Todoroki kept adding fuel to the fire. It wasn’t until a police officer threatened to throw the fighting boys into a holding cell if they continued did they stop.
When the group arrived at the arcade, the group was quiet compared to how they usually are. Kirishima and Bakugou took over a hunting game while Midoriya spent his time beating the high score on some dancing game. Todoroki spent his time watching the green- haired boy sipping on a drink he ordered. Kaminari and Shinsou spent their time playing player vs player games in order to try and beat each other.
All in all, Shinsou had fun.
When the duo finally took a break, they got a couple of sodas and found an empty table in the corner.
“Man, this is great,” Kaminari declared. Shinsou nodded in agreement. The blond studied the taller male with observant eyes. “I’m glad you came, you know.”
“You’re always happy,” Shinsou snorted.
“Not as happy as when you smile,” Kaminari said, a small smile on his face.
Shinsou choked on his drink and turned pink. “How are you so smooth when you say shit like that,” he mumbled.
“Because they’re all true.”
“Why are you such a sap?” Shinsou leaned back and avoided Kaminari’s gaze.
The blond shrugged. “I like making people happy.”
“I was told you were a people pleaser.”
“Really? By who?”
“Sero.”
Kaminari chuckled. “I should have guessed.”
“They’re good friends to you- Ashido, Sero, and Krishima,” Shinsou said, “and Bakugou in his own angry way.” Kaminari laughed at the last part.
“They are,” the blond said. He looked down at his hands that were wrapped around the soda cup fondly. “They could be your friends too, you know.” Shinsou sighed, but Kaminari was quick to add, “I get why you don’t, but can I tell you a little secret?”
“Sure,” Shinsou said.
Kaminari leaned in and grabbed the lilac-haired boy’s hands with his own. “You can’t get very far without a few friends to help you along the way,” he whispered. Shinsou shot him a dirty look as Kaminari leaned back. There was no smile on the blonde’s face.
“What do you know?” Shinsou grumbled.
“People,” Kaminari said simply. “I’m very good with them, if you haven’t noticed.”
“I’ve noticed.” Kaminari raised an eyebrow, watching the other boy carefully. He knows he’s stepping into a mine field with this topic, but he needs Shinsou to hear what he has to say.
“Think about it,” the blond said. “Say you’re in some deep shit. If you have no allies, you won’t get backup and you’re screwed.” Shinsou stayed silent. He didn’t have a counter argument handy.
“Right now is the best time to gain allies,” he continued. “Your peers are going to be the ones saving your ass one day. You’ll want to be close with them.”
Kaminari watched Shinsou as the boy processed what he had said. Truth be told, the blond just wanted Shinsou to open up more. The taller boy will always have someone to help him should he ever need it. Shinsou is a good guy with a kind heart and a hero’s drive.
“I’ll think about it,” Shinsou finally said. Kaminari grinned, taking that as a win.
“Sweet. Let’s go back to gaming.” The blond dragged Shinsou back into the maze of arcade games.
When Shinsou was training with Aizawa, the boy was distracted. When the older man had enough, he suggested a break. “What’s on your mind?” he asked.
“Nothing really important,” Shinsou said. Aizawa raised an eyebrow.
“If it wasn’t, you wouldn’t be so distracted,” the raven said, flicking his pupil’s forehead. “What is it?”
Shinsou swatted the older man’s hand away. “It’s nothing! Really,” he said. “It’s just something Kamanari said the other day has me thinking.”
“Well, what did he say?”
Shinsou sighed. “That in order to be a good hero, I’m going to need allies, and right now is the best time to meet them.”
Aizawa thought for a moment before muttering, “if only Kaminari was this reliable when he took tests.” Shinsou gave his mentor a confused look.
“So, you’re telling me he’s right?” the boy asked.
“In a sense, yes,” Aizawa nodded. “You will want allies if you want to succeed as a hero.” Shinsou groaned and buried his face into his hands. Aizawa chuckled and patted his student’s shoulder. “If it makes you feel better, I knew you were in trouble the second you said you weren’t there to make friends.”
Shinsou groaned again. “No it doesn’t.”
“Class 2-A is an odd class, ever since they started on day one. They use each other to better their classmates and themselves,” the older male said. He looked up at the ceiling of the training building they were in. “This group is so friendship orientated, you’d think we’re in a My Little Pony episode.” Shinsou chuckled at the analogy. “Even Bakugou and Todoroki were swayed by this group, two of the three most headstrong students I have.”
“Do you want some old geezer advice?” Aizawa asked the younger male.
“Not really, but you’re gonna tell me anyways.” That earned Shinsou a small whack to the back of his head.
As Shinsou rubbed his head, his mentor said, “don’t fight it. Just let these idiots into your life. They’ll help you in the long run.” Aizawa had a fond look on his face.
“You really love your students, don’t you?” Shinsou asked.
“I will deny any accusations like that should they come my way,” the raven said blankly. Shinsou chuckled while Aizawa had a faint smile on his face before teasingly saying, “don’t fall in love with any loud blonds. They’re a pain.”
Shinsou turned pink. “Sensei!” He lunged for the older male, who he missed, but it was effective in restarting the training session. This time, Shinsou was a little more focused.
Kaminari stood outside of Shinsou’s classroom, waiting for him to leave for lunch. A lot of Shinsou’s classmates were giving him strange looks as they exited the room, but the blond paid them no mind. When Shinsou did finally leave the classroom, he was startled by his presence.
“What are you doing here?” the taller boy asked.
Kaminari smiled and slid up next to Shinsou. “Waiting for you obviously. Wanna eat lunch together?”
“What about the rest of your friends? Wouldn’t you rather sit with them?”
Kaminari shrugged. “They won’t be too upset if I sat with you today.”
Shinsou rolled his eyes and motioned for the blond to follow him. “I’m getting lunch from the cafeteria today.” The duo headed to the cafeteria with Kaminari talking and Shinsou silently listening. The topic of today was Bakugou getting distracted by Kirishima and falling off of a metal bar during training that day.
“He was so high up and I swear he screamed as he fell, but it could have been literally anyone else,” Kaminari said. “No one is exactly sure what happened, but everyone saw Kirishima abandon his fight in order to go catch him. Bakugou caught himself, but he was a bit shaky afterwards.”
Shinsou raised an eyebrow. “How did you find out it was because he was distracted?”
“He shouted, and I quote, ‘it’s not my fault you’re distracting’ at Kirishima,” the blond said, chuckling a bit. “Aizawa sensei ended up ending training there and sent Bakugou to Recovery Girl just in case.”
“I’m glad he’s alright then,” Shinsou said. “How was your training before that happened?” Kaminari perked up and started recounting his sparring session against Momo.
Halfway through his story, two other students pass Kaminari talking a bit loudly about one of their classmates.
“I’m getting tired of him blaming his ADHD for him being so stupid,” one of them said.
“No kidding,” the other said.
Kaminari stopped speaking and turned towards them. “ADHD is a learning disability,” he said, gaining the other two students’ attention. “He’s not stupid, it’s just the school system was built to work against him. It’s literally the biggest enemy for people with learning disabilities. So don’t try and downplay his struggles just because you don’t understand.”
Shinsou was surprised Kaminari spoke up at all. The blond still had his signature smile, but anyone who knew Kaminari well enough could tell he was serious.
The first student scoffed. “What do you know? You’re probably just one of those progressive people who make stuff up just to get attention.” The student used air quotes when he said progressive.
Kaminari’s eyes narrowed. “I have ADHD, so I do know what I’m talking about. A major part of being a hero is having empathy, and that includes people with learning disabilities. Just because someone is progressive doesn’t mean what they say is wrong. And what you just said proved to me you won’t be a good hero since you like to disregard other people’s struggles.”
“What did you just say to me?” Student one took a step forward, but Kaminari met him with his own step, both growling. Shinsou immediately stepped between them, his hands on both of their chests.
“Enough,” the tallest male said. Both males looked up at him, but Kaminari was the only one to relax. The other student, on the other hand, kept pushing against Shinsou’s hand. “I said enough,” Shinsou growled.
The other student’s friend pulled on the other’s arm. “Let’s go. You don’t want to start a fight with them.”
“And why not?” the first student asked rather harshly.
Student two just kept pulling on his friend’s arm until he gave in and left with his friend. Shinsou was a bit confused on why the second student until he heard Bakugou’s voice.
“Smart kid,” the angry blond growled. “If Dunce Face starts a fight, it’s usually for a good reason.”
“Hey Bakubro, Kiri Sunshine,” the electricity user said, his cheery demeanor back. Bakugou grunted in reply as Kirishima stood behind the angry boy with a wide smile.
“What was that about?” Kirishima asked.
Kaminari waved his hand. “Oh you know, just trying to teach some people about learning disabilities.” Shinsou raised an eyebrow, considering that’s not exactly what happened, but didn’t say anything.
Kirishima patted Kaminari’s shoulder. “It really sucks many people don’t understand,” the red head said. Shinsou looked surprised for a second.
“This happens often?” Shinsou asked.
Bakugou snorted. “Nearly everyday, Sparky here goes on a rant about anything related to mental health and how it needs to be treated differently and what not.”
“It’s very informative, honestly,” Kirishima said.
Kaminari looked a bit sheepish. “I can’t help if I care about mental wellness and awareness.”
“Not saying it’s bad,” Bakugou said.
Kaminari grinned and wrapped an arm around the angry blond’s shoulders. “You like listening to me rant about it, don’t you?” Bakugou grunted and shook Kaminari’s arm off of his shoulder and didn’t answer. Kirishima chuckled.
“You guys heading to lunch?” the redhead asked.
“Yeah. I brought my own lunch, but Shinsou is getting his from the school today,” Kaminari said.
Bakugou gave the purple haired boy a disgusted look. “You have got to be kidding me,” he said. “You actually eat the school food?”
Shinsou, being completely confused by Bakugou speaking to him, said “yeah? It’s not like I have the time or skill to make a good lunch.”
Bakugou gave him a look. “You’re lucky I make enough to feed our entire table. You can have that instead.”
Kaminari and Kirishima giggled at Shinsou’s confused face. “You’re lucky,” Kaminari said, “Bakugou’s cooking is to die for.” The cheery blond dragged the taller boy after Bakugou and forced him to sit at the table that Sero and Mina were already at.
“Finally!” Mina shouted from her spot. In front of her were multiple boxes of food already opened and set out. “We already grabbed lunch.”
“You better not have fucked it up,” Bakugou scowled.
Mina faked a gasp. “And ruin your amazing cooking? I would never.” Her attention was on Shinsou in a second. “Glad to see you decided to join us Shinsou,” she said cheerily. He just gave her an uncomfortable smile.
“Share with eyebags here,” Bakugou ordered.
Sero eyed Shinsou suspiciously. “What did you do?” he asked suspiciously.
“What do you mean?” Shinsou asked.
“Bakugou doesn’t just let anyone eat his food. So, what did you do?”
“I just said I eat school lunches.”
“He stepped in so Kaminari wouldn’t start a fight,” Kirishima interjected. Sero made an ‘oh’ shape with his mouth and shoved a box of food towards Shinsou.
“Checks out,” the raven said.
Shinsou stared down at the box for a second before he took the chopsticks inside and picked up a piece of chicken. Taking a small bite, Shinsou’s eyes widened. Mina laughed.
“He was just introduced to a whole new world,” she joked. Shinsou ignored her to focus on the food in front of him. Kaminari wasn’t lying when he said Bakugou’s cooking was to die for. It was the best meal he ever had.
Shinsou was helping Aizawa during patrol. It was pretty quiet, so Shinsou chanced talking. “Did you know Kaminari has ADHD?”
Aizawa looked at him from the corner of his eye. “I did know. It’s hard not to when it’s so obvious.”
“Did he ever go on rants about mental awareness in your class?” Aizawa nodded.
“I’m sure he’s the only one who’s ever corrected Iida or Momo ever, and it was always on mental illness.” Aizawa chuckled. “He once told Iida to ‘shut up and do his research before he says anything.’ Honestly, it was funny to watch everyone stare at Kaminari with open mouths.”
Shinsou nodded, which caused Aizawa to look at him fully. “Why are you so interested in Kaminari all of a sudden?”
“Kaminari and I have been hanging out a lot more recently. I only really get to see him outside of class, so I was curious what he’s like inside of class,” he said, shrugging.
Aizawa nodded. “He’s disruptive a lot, but that whole group is, and he tends to go with them. A good student, even if his grades don’t reflect that. He honestly needs someone who’d do the writing portion of all of his assignments, because that’s what gets him.”
“Kaminari did call the school ‘the biggest enemy for people with learning disabilities’,” Shinsou said, quoting Kaminari from earlier.
Aizawa shrugged and nodded. “He’s not wrong.”
“Maybe I could help him with the writing portion,” Shinsou mumbled, but his teacher heard him. The raven male looked at his pupil with a curious gaze.
“Do you like Kaminari?”
Shinsou shrugged. “Sure. I kind of have to with the amount of time I’m spending with him.”
Aizawa rolled his eyes. “Do you like him more than a friend?”
Shinsou froze. He was silent as he processed the words. He never really thought about it, but now that Aizawa pointed it out, the purple haired boy had to. He was more interested in Kaminari than the other class 2-A students, but he thought that was just because he was around more than the others. He also considered Midoriya as a friend as well, but his feelings weren’t the same.
Shinsou was forcibly pulled out of his head by a scream. “Time to get to work,” Aizawa said. The duo started in the direction of the scream.
It was midnight when Kaminari came to a revelation. He woke up from a dream date with the purple haired teen and he woke up right before the two of them kissed. He immediately pulled out his phone and texted the Bakusquad group chat.
pikapika: I like Shinsou
Office Supplies: Wait. Seriously?
pikapika: Considering I just woke up from a dream date with him, I’m pretty sure.
AlienQueen: TEA!
pebble: How’d you know it was a date.
pikapika: We nearly kissed before I woke up.
AlienQueen: Yeah, that’s a dream date alright. Are you gonna tell him?
pikapika: And ruin all my progress? No way.
pebble: He might like you back.
Office Supplies: You’ll never know unless you ask him.
pikapika: No. That’s too much of a risk for my liking.
pebble: That’s what I thought before I asked out Bakugo. Look where I’m at now.
pikapika: I’m not you, and Shinsou isn’t Bakugou.
AlienQueen: The best of us all.
Office Supplies: Bakugou or Kirishima?
pikapika: Kirishima, obviously.
blasty: SHUT UP! It’s way too early for this! GO! TO! BED!
pebble: Uh oh. The beast woke up.
blasty: Kirishima!
pebble: Sorry. Night guys!
AlienQueen: night.
Office Supplies: night
pikapika: night.
blasty: Yo, Dunce Face. Ask Eyebags about how he feels about you. The worst that can happen is you get turned down.
Kaminari didn’t see the last message until the next morning, but when he did, he chuckled. Of course Bakugou would say that. The angry blond seemed to have no fear. Though, the electric teen did take his words into consideration. He might just end up telling Shinsou how he feels.
Shinsou found himself back at the class 2-A dorms a week later. Kaminari invited him over to play some video games and Shinsou found himself unable to say no. Kaminari had already set up the playstation he owns in the common room before the mid controller arrived.
It was fun for Shinsou. The two of them got yelled at by Iida for being too noisy while playing mario kart, so Kaminari suggested they play minecraft. That also proved to make them too noisy at certain points. Kaminari accidently left a burn mark in the carpet when a creeper came up behind him and killed him. Shinsou laughed because Kaminari had to travel for a long time before he could get back to his stuff, so Shinsou placed all of his items into a chest so everything wouldn’t despawn.
A couple of hours passed, and Shinsou and Kaminari were getting tired. Dinner was being cooked by Momo that night and she offered Shinsou to stay to eat and Kaminari said he could stay in his dorm for the night. “I wouldn’t mind staying the night,” Shinsou said.
Shinsou would never outright say it, but being around class 2-a was a nice change of pace for Shinsou. They were all so boisterous and kind. Aizawa was right about them being friendship orientated. It was obvious before, but it became painstakingly so when Shoji accidentally let it slip he was bullied for his quirk when he was younger and everyone was asking for names.
Even Bakugou was disgusted by the story. “No one should bully someone else for their quirk. It’s not their fucking fault.” Midoryia looked a bit surprised at his words before tackling him into a hug yelling “Kachan!” This only caused the angry blond to swear at him and attempt to shove him off, but Midoryia wasn’t releasing. The only reason the green-haired boy let go of Bakugou was because Todoroki called to him.
The class was very aware that Shinsou wasn’t used to this much familiarity, so they tried to keep from overwhelming him too much. When it became clear one person was coming at him too far forward for his liking, another person would jump in and get them to back off a bit. This was mostly Midoryia asking him questions about his quirk and Todorki and Iida telling him to cool it.
When dinner was done and everyone went their separate ways, Kaminari and Shinou made their way up to Kaminari’s room. As soon as the door was closed, the two boys fell onto the blond’s bed.
“I’m glad you’re opening up to us,” the blond said. Shinsou nodded.
“Aizawa did tell me not to fight their friendship mission. I was going to lose anyway.” Kaminari laughed.
“Oh really?”
“Yeah. He said it ‘was like being in a My Little Pony episode.’”
Kaminari turned his body so he was facing Shinsou. “That’s a pretty accurate description of class 2-A.”
Shinsou watched how Kaminari shifted again to stare up at the ceiling. He looked so relaxed and it was like all the energy he used from the day is gone. He’s still smiling, but it wasn’t as bright, and he seemed to sink into the blankets.
Being careful as not to enter territory he might not make out of, he gently asked, “do you ever get tired of always being the cheery one of the group?”
“Sure,” Kaminari said, “but it’s not the same every day. Some days, it’s really easy being the energetic one, but other days, I don’t even want to try, but I gotta be, or people will ask what’s wrong when I don’t even know what’s wrong.”
Shinsou kinda understood where the blond was coming from. “Have you ever told the others about it?”
Kaminari nodded. “Yeah, and they understand, kind of, but they forget a lot and always ask.”
“You don’t have to keep the act up around me, you know? I don’t mind being around a tired Kami,” Shinsou said. The blond smiled.
“I’ll keep that in mind then.” Kaminari then suddenly gasped and pulled his computer from under his bed. “Wanna watch funny cat videos?”
Shinsou laughed and said, “uh, duh.” The blond shifted so the purple-haired boy could move so they were both leaning against the headboard and the laptop was between them. As Kaminari loaded up youtube, Shinsou noticed how his entire home page was memes and minecraft videos.
“Got an addiction, do you?” the taller boy teased.
“They’re interesting to me. My favorite videos at the moment are Dream’s. His entire group is so freaking funny, man. My favorite is when Dream did a video where every time he takes damage, he gets shocked. That’s on twitch though.” Shinsou made a contemplating face.
“We can watch some of his videos instead,” Shinsou said. “I’m kinda intrigued.”
Kaminari grinned. “I’ll show you his manhunts first. This man is a genius.”
Shinsou really enjoyed Dream’s videos. WHat he enjoyed even more though was Kaminari, despite knowing these videos like the back of his hand, still getting excited over an awesome play Dream did. They also evolved to the other minecraft youtubers, which Shinosu also really enjoyed.
“Dude, Technoblade is a mood,” Shinsou said.
Kaminari laughed. “I really like Tubbo. He’s honestly really adorable. His friendship with Tommy is pretty wholesome.”
“Am I sexist?”
“Sexist? No. Misogynistic? Borderline.” The two of them started laughing.
When they calmed down a bit, Kaminari turned so his face was close to Shinsou’s. “I really like hanging around you.”
“I like hanging out with you too.” Shinsou was confused on where this was coming from.
Kamainari rolled his eyes and repeated himself. “No, I like being around you. I like you.” Shinsou was becoming more confused, and it was evident on his face. Kaminari sighed, sitting up and gently grabbing Shinsou’s face. “I like you. As more than a friend.”
“Oh,” Shinsou simply said. His face turned pink and his gaze shifted to the side. Kamianri, taking that as rejection, removed his hands and settled to the side.
“Sorry if I made you uncomfortable.” Kaminari started to crawl off his bed, but Shinsou grabbed his arm before he could get too far out of reach.
“Uh, no. You didn’t,” Shinsou said. “I was just a bit surprised.” Kamianri wasn’t looking at him now, but the taller boy was thankful for that, or else he might not be able to say what he wants to say. “I’m not good with expressing emotions, and you know this.”
Kaminari nodded. “I do, and I understand if you don’t feel the same way.”
“But I do!” Shinsou shouted. “I do, I just didn’t think you felt the same way, let alone confess first.” Kaminari turned towards the purple haired boy with wide eyes.
“You do?” Shinsou nodded, making Kaminari grin. “Oh thank god! I thought for sure I’d ruin our friendship if I confessed. I’m going to be honest, I wasn’t planning to confess, but the moment just felt right, and when you didn’t answer, I panicked. I thought I just ruined everything and I was scared you wouldn’t want to be my friend anymore, and-.” Shinsou grabbed Kaminari’s shoulders and told him to breathe.
“I don’t get how you have all that air to talk that much,” Shinsou joked.
“Sorry,” the blond said sheepishly.
Shinou chuckled. “There’s no reason to apologize.” The two of them just stared at each other in silence.
“What happens now?” Kaminari asked.
Shinsou shrugged. “We could start going out. Put a label to us, or we could just be exclusive to each other without the label.”
Kaminari gave Shinsou a small smile. “I like labels.”
Shinsou grinned back. “I do too. Boyfriends?”
“Boyfriends,” Kaminari confirmed. The two of them chuckled and fell back into a comfortable position of laying on the bed.
The two of them were walking to class together, holding hands and laughing. They agreed to just let everyone know without directly telling them. They figured it’d be funny to see their reactions. And boy were they right.
Kaminari’s classroom was first when they walked down the hallway. Shinsou pressed a soft kiss on top of the blond’s head and squeezed his hand before heading to his own classroom. He heard Mina screech at Kaminari before he got very far from the door.
Kaminari would retell what happened in the classroom. Mina had seen the kiss Shinsou gave Kaminari and demanded to know when they got together. “I remember you being too scared to tell him you felt.”
“It happened last night,” Kaminari said, shrugging. “I just blurted it out. He didn’t get it at first, but when he did realize what I meant, he said he liked me too.”
Bakugou scoffed. “Told you so.”
“Why didn’t you immediately text us what happened?” Mina asked.
Kaminari shrugged. “We just wanted to come out casually.”
Sero shook his head. “You wanted to see everyone's reactions in person. Don’t lie to us.”
Kaminari gave his tape friend finger guns. “Busted.” Kirishima patted the blond’s shoulder and grinned.
“I’m happy for you guys,” he said. The electric teen smiled back.
“I’m happy for us too.”
The bell rang and Aizawa crawled out of his sleeping bag. “In your seats and get ready for class today. We’re going to be doing an inter-class training session today.”
