Chapter Text
Footsteps In The Dark
Kouka Jirou. A student at UA highschool, on her path to become a hero. Her quirk allowed her to hear sounds that most normal people couldn't pick up at far distances or through certain materials.
This quirk was very resourceful except for when she was awoken in the middle of the night after having heard an acoustic guitar in the middle of the night down in the common area.
It wasn't awfully loud, but she could still hear the quiet strumming downstairs. She definitely had a few choice words for the idiot that decided to wake her, she remarked as she made her way downstairs.
However, she was quite surprised when she found a green mop half asleep on the couch with a guitar in hand. Izuku Midoriya, the one who was most likely to become the future Number One. A feat he had proven after many battles with Tomura Shigaraki throughout the past 2 years at UA.
But here was the next number one looking like death trying to… What was he trying to do? Did he even know how to play guitar? Was he trying to learn? And why was he even awake at this time?
The girl couldn't even fathom his reasoning but she'd get answers later. Right now she needed to get him to sleep, or at least make him pay for waking her up!
"Midoriya." She called, startling the boy awake. He swiftly turned his head to her with wide eyes. Why was she awake? Better yet what was she doing here? He truly didn't think he'd get caught at this time, but his sleep deprived state left him vulnerable to it.
"Uh… H-Hello, Jirou-san." He mumbled, trying to hide the guitar that she had probably already seen. "W-What uh… W-What are you d-doing awake?"
The girl looked at him blankly, with a "Are you serious?" expression, which made Midoriya gulp in anxiousness. She must have heard him playing...
"I heard you playing the guitar. Super hearing and all, noises like that can make it hard to fall asleep." She responded, glaring at the boy. Midoriya hadn't realized that he had been playing this late. He felt guilty for it, but he really needed to do this.
He had decided to take up the guitar after seeing how happy it made Eri, but he didn't think he would get so soaked into it. He just needed alone time to practice so that no one would find out about it.
He slumped into the couch slightly and exhaled, "S-Sorry… I-I just got so absorbed in it, I-I guess I didn't realize what time it was…"
Jirou stared at the boy, with that all intensive blank stare. He seemed to show remorse and that was good enough for her, but she still needed answers from him. Why was he learning guitar? And why was he trying to keep it a secret like this? Rather why practice at this time.
"Hey, it's fine. No harm done honestly, I can understand getting absorbed in it… But this really is unexpected, why are you trying to play guitar? And this late at night..." She questioned.
Izuku flinched slightly at her question and peered up at her. Should he tell her? There's no harm in it, right?
"Y-You know that girl I saved at the yakuza raid? Th-The one with Togata-senpai?" He questioned, to start things off. She probably had seen the girl around a few times, especially during that christmas party two years ago.
She quirked a brow at his question, remembering the white haired girl that they had talked about that was adopted by Aizawa.
"The white haired girl? Yeah, what about her?" She had wondered if he was learning to play for her, but why would he need to do that? She seemed like a perfectly happy girl now.
"W-Well, she really enjoys your singing and everything… S-So much so that she smiled for the first time in years because of it back during the cultural festival! I-It was all thanks to you and your music, y-you wouldn't believe how often she said she w-wanted to meet the 'Pretty girl with the pretty voice'..." He imitated her from before, waving her little hands around. The girl really was too cute, Eri had always wanted to see the girl play again.
Jirou blushed at Midoriya's words, he liked her voice and she was able to help this Eri girl smile for the first time in years? That surely came as a shock.
"B-But because of that I-I thought maybe I could help her smile every now and then i-if I learned…" He started, "B-But it's all thanks to you and your voice. I-It really was beautiful Jirou-san! You were beautiful." He blushed at his own words. He only wanted to be honest, but he might have let his own personal feelings slip out a little.
Jirou was at a loss, he was trying to learn to make that girl smile? But she smiles all the time now doesn't she? Midoriya really outshined everyone when it came to trying to be a hero, he really had a knack for it. He was selfless, and kind, and here was another case of him going above and beyond. Just how long had he been trying to learn how to play?
The boy had even called her beautiful and that caused her to blush heavily, "O-Oh come on! Y-You're just saying that… Thank you though, I'm glad I was able to help her smile again…" She said earnestly. Midoriya had made her feel some sort of pride in her actions, yet all the same he made her feel giggly after calling her beautiful. She may have had a small crush on the boy if she was honest, but who didn't?
"I-I mean it, Jirou-san..! Y-You're someone I-I've always wanted to get to know better! You j-just have an energy I-I really like," He admitted, looking away from her. "P-p-plus I think y-you're really cute…" He mumbled, adding onto his statement.
Jirou's face had erupted into a red hue, and she stood frozen and in pure shock that Midoriya had called her cute of all things! Though she couldn't help but be just a little skeptical, I mean had he seen the other girls in their class? She definitely couldn't compete with them.
"C-Come on… Th-The other girls are way more attractive, I-I'm kinda… unfeminine." She mumbled, coyly. Midoriya couldn't believe what she had just said! She was definitely number one when it came to looks in his eyes. The rest of the girls in class were nice, sure, but no one could compare to Jirou. Not even if there was a clone!
Midoriya stood suddenly, refusing to let her say such things about herself, and got right up close and personal. Jirou, being surprised, tried to take a step back but Midoriya grabbed her wrists, and held her in place.
"Jirou-san." He called her name, his tone sending shivers down her spine. He released her wrists and placed his hands on her waist, causing her to look up at him with a red face.
She saw that his eye's were dead serious, and his face adorned a blush just as deep as hers, "Your body tells a different story..." He whispered, rubbing his hand down to her hips.
Midoriya had no idea what had come over him, but he enjoyed embracing the girl like this. He'd be lying if he said he hadn't been crushing on the girl for quite some time, although their interactions were few each time they had talked it just felt… Natural. Like they just clicked together well, her teasing with his awkwardness.
And Jirou knew that she felt the same way, she loved teasing the boy occasionally or helping him deal with Bakugou. Or if they were taking notes together to study, they were good friends but an air lingered that there could've been more if given enough time.
"M-Midoriya…?" She questioned, as they stood there in the common room. They had been accompanied with the silence of the night, and they were so close that Jirou could hear the boy's racing heart. She could feel his intense stare, and his jagged breathing.
Midoriya quickly came to his senses and released the girls hips, what was he doing? He could easily have done something really bad if he didn't catch himself. Jirou must have gotten uncomfortable like that.
"S-Sorry, Jirou-san… I-I don't know what came over me. I don't want to get between you a-and Kaminari." He muttered, taking a step away from her.
And there it was; the reason why Midoriya had never tried to confess to her was due to Kaminari's supposed crush on the girl. Midoriya couldn't hurt his friend like that if he were to try anything with Jirou, although his crush wasn't confirmed he had a suspicion the two liked one another.
Jirou looked at the boy, confused. Why was he bringing up Kaminari, and how could he just stop in the middle like that!? Her heart was racing, and yet she felt… Disappointed. But why was she disappointed? Maybe it wouldn't be so bad to kiss him...
"What does Kaminari have to do with anything?" She questioned, tilting her head at the boy. Why would he bring him up right now?
"W-Well I th-thought you two liked each other…" He admitted. Truthfully he wasn't one to feed into rumors, but it kinda just made sense seeing how often the two hangout together. She seemed to always have fun with Kaminari, and the same went for him.
Jirou tried to suppress a laugh. Her and Kaminari? AS IF! The guy was funny, yeah, but she could not find herself dating a complete moron. Besides… She found herself more attracted to nerdy guys.
"That's a funny joke, Midoriya..!" She said regaining her composure, "There's no way I could date jamming whey." She then took a step towards the boy and grabbed his hands, placing them back on her hips.
"And call me Kyouka… I never said what you did was bad…" She looked up at him and gave a small smile, as a red adorned her cheeks. Much to her dismay her earlobes had started to curl/coil randomly. Midoriya could easily pick up on her embarrassment like this.
It was a trait Midoriya had noticed to happen solely when she was embarrassed, he found it simply adorable and made sure to write it down on her page in his hero notes. Jirou had even stumbled upon her page in his hero notes once, and became red faced at all of his notes on her, complimenting her, and jotting down notes about her quirk. It felt like an invasion of privacy.
"A-Alright, K-Kyouka…" He said, placing his forehead against hers. The two locked eyes, smiles adorning their faces. "Th-Then can I tell you something?" Kyouka giggled softly and nodded.
"I-I think I like you…" He admitted. She answered him with a soft kiss, it was a short one, but in that short amount of time the two of them had felt some sort of shocking sensation. A fire had been lit in the two of them, and their embrace tightened as they separated for air.
"I like you too." She said, as Midoriya's dumbstruck face made her giggle. The two of them traded their first kiss, and couldn't help but be on cloud nine together.
Afterwards, the two shared a deep talk about how their feelings came to be, but soon it had became late, and Midoriya grabbed his guitar after realizing how late it had gotten. It was Saturday tomorrow, but they should still try and get some sleep. Midoriya had to train in the morning anyways.
"W-Well, i-it's late… We should probably head to bed." He said a bit somberly. Truthfully he didn't want to leave Jirou's side, but the two of them couldn't spend all night together like this.
"U-Um..!" She said, trying to get the greenettes attention. "Y-You c-could come stay in my room with me… I want to spend time with you…" She mumbled. Her admittance nearly made Izuku make his heart clench face, but he forced it back down.
Midoriya blushed at the implications, but quickly shook his head trying to get the naughty thoughts out of his head. But she really offered for them to spend the night together, was she really okay with that? What if people found out about them being together?
"A-Are you sure? Wh-What if we get caught?" He questioned, placing the guitar on his back with the strap. Kyouka grabbed his hand, and held it to her chest.
"I don't care, if they have a problem with it we can handle it. I just… Want to be with you." She confessed. She blushed at her own corniness but she really couldn't care less if the whole world knew she was just happy that she was finally able to be with the boy.
She admired him, and found him really cute. He always had found ways to make her happy or to feel good about herself and he was always helpful. Eventually Jirou found herself falling for the boy, and if someone was going to complain or cause trouble because of it they'd definitely have hell to pay.
"W-Well alright… L-Let's just try to be quiet getting up there."
The two crept their way to Jirou's room, the halls pitch black. They were illuminated only by the feignt shine of the moon, but it was just enough to help them make their way to Jirou's room.
As Izuku entered her room he heard the click of the lock behind him, meaning Jirou had locked the door behind them. He screamed at himself to not get any funny ideas, they were just going to sleep.
'Unless...- NO!' He screamed internally, his face becoming increasingly more red.
Izuku placed his guitar against the wall, drawing Jirou's attention to it. She hadn't noticed before but it was a green acoustic guitar which made a lot of sense when she thought about it.
"Hey Izuku…" She called, grabbing the nervous boy's attention. She walked over to her bed, and sat down before continuing, "I-If you want, I could help teach you how to play..? I-It might help you get to where you want so y-you can play for Eri."
Izuku smiled widely at her suggestion, "I-I'd love that, Kyouka!" He exclaimed, walking closer to the girl. He stood in between the girls legs, placing his hands on her hips once again, causing Jirou's face the flare up.
Jirou had felt herself feel tingly when he held her like this, and she couldn't quite put her finger on why. Regardless of that though, she'd rest her hands on his broad shoulders and stare up at the boy.
Izuku liked holding her small frame, it truly left him feeling amazed that someone could be as small as her, although he wasn't all that tall himself.
"She's so small…" He'd mumble softly, not realizing he said that out loud. It made Jirou feel a bit subconscious of it… Did he have a problem with it? He'd probably prefer a bigger girl like Yaomomo...
She recoiled her hands from his shoulders and rested them on his chest instead, feeling his toned chest through his baggy "flannel" shirt. She never understood why he wore these kinds of shirts, but she wanted his entire collection just so she could dress like him a little. Call it corny, but it was a desire she'd had since she started being conscious of the fact she liked him.
"I-Is there a problem with me being small..?" She asked, pointing her jack at his forehead threateningly. Izuku blushed realizing that he must have voiced his thoughts out loud once again. Though why would there be a problem with it?
He smiled and swiftly kissed her jack, making her back off with a quiet "Eep!" He chuckled as she pouted at him.
"Not at all. I-It's actually cute, b-but I feel that if I say anymore even your soundproofed room wouldn't hide my screams of pain." He joked. Truthfully he knew that teasing her back for all of this was going to end up with him getting either hurt, or bullied to high hell.
But it was worth the risk.
They shared a small laugh, however Jirou's earlobe still tingled with the feeling of his kiss lingering. It was so soft, and it made her feel strangely happy. Perhaps it was the intimacy behind it, or just that he was touching a "Weak spot" of hers.
"W-Well, maybe I could make an exception… J-Just for t-tonight though." She said, holding her earphone up to him and hoping he'd get the message. She wanted more of that sensation, and Midoriya was more than happy to oblige.
Midoriya placed another kiss on her earjack, and another… And another. Jirou had been trying to hold in any sort of noise she'd make but she couldn't help that her breathing had become a bit ragged, it was a bit ticklish but she didn't mind it all too much. She wanted affection from her green bean damn it!
"Satisfied? Or should I hug you while doing it too? You seem to be craving affection right now." He pointed out, much to Jirou's embarrassment. Teasing her like this was fun, and he'd make it a point to do it more often, even if it meant getting stabbed with her jacks.
"Sh-Shut up! I-It's your fault anyways! I-I'm feeling all tingly…" She admitted, rubbing the earjack that he had recently attacked with a flurry of kisses. Izuku blushed, at what she was trying to imply.
"S-Sorry, you're just r-really cute like that." He said, releasing his hold on Jirou, much to her dismay. He plopped down beside her and laid down, Jirou joining him soon after.
"W-Wanna go out t-tomorrow? Just the two of us?" Midoriya suggested. Truthfully he wanted to take her to this new music store at the mall he heard about, they were going to be selling a new Deep Dope album and he wanted to surprise her with it later, but this works too.
"Like a date?" She asked, feeling the boy nod to her question. "S-Sure, should we just meet up in the common area before we go?"
He nodded again, his lack of sleep catching back up with him. Jirou's bed was way too comfy, and he was finding it hard to stay awake. Jirou looked over at the boy struggling to stay awake as he spoke.
Midoriya's half asleep state was pretty cute, she had to admit, his mumblings of the date's details were too hard to understand so she opted to just sleep on the boy. They could talk about it in the morning.
The two laid together that night, basking in their love for one another. No one knowing of what had transpired, the deafening silence of the night consumed 3-A's dormatory.
Not even their footsteps in that dark hall were heard.
