Work Text:
Yoongi was excited. He was excited to finally have a chance to make music, to not be swindled out of his pay. That’s why he gave this company a chance, that’s why he auditioned. He met Namjoon and it was fine at first. He looked like an ordinary, lanky teenager and Yoongi thought things would be okay. That only lasted for the few seconds before Namjoon opened his mouth. Yoongi was taller than him by a little bit but it felt like Namjoon was trying to be condescending towards him. Namjoon acted like he knew what he was saying and doing when he clearly didn't. And maybe Yoongi wouldn't mind a lot if it was just when they were in the dorms but unfortunately that wasn't the case. Namjoon acted even worse when they tried to work on songs together.
"You can't make the melody before the lyrics what the hell?" Yoongi clenched his fist as he felt a headache forming and his eye twitching as he questioned his life choices. "I can't fucking work with a song like that, do you even know what the fuck you're doing?" Yoongi grabbed the closest thing to him and hurled it at Namjoon, who tried to guard himself from being hit.
"Can you shut the fuck up for once?!"
"Hey! What the fuck was that for?!" Namjoon retaliated and threw his notebook back at Yoongi. "Can't fucking take it when someone tells you the fucking truth?!" Yoongi scoffed loudly.
"I'm not the one assuming that every fucking word coming from my mouth is true !"
"And that fucking warranted the need for you to throw something at me?! What the fuck is wrong with you?!"
"Oh no, you're not gonna fucking ask me that 'cause I can ask the fucking same of you!" The frown on Namjoon's face deepened, his brows furrowed. "I'm gonna fucking leave." Yoongi stood and left without looking back. He tried again after some days (reluctantly because he was told to try getting along with Namjoon), but things were still the same if not worse. Namjoon and Yoongi were at each other's throats within seconds of being in the same room, sometimes escalating to throwing anything within reach at each other. The other trainees knew to stay away from the both of them when they were near each other unless they wanted to get caught in the middle of their feud.
Under any normal circumstance, Yoongi would have thought that it was very childish of him to keep fighting with Namjoon but there was something about him that just made him want to beat Namjoon. Did he dwell on it? Not one bit, but it wasn't until Hoseok, someone who had joined the company after Yoongi and was finally fed up with the constant arguing and throwing of things, mentioned the words he really wanted to avoid thinking about: 'Just fucking kiss already or something oh my fucking god please just stop!' Yoongi went straight to the studio after that. He'd be lying if he denied ever thinking about kissing Namjoon with the same intensity that they brought to their arguments, but they were images he certainly did not want to think about at the moment. He just wanted to work on his music in peace but the entire essence of Namjoon disrupted his flow, he was distracting in so many ways and Yoongi didn't know exactly how to feel about it.
Yoongi felt a shift in their dynamic after that day. He hadn't seen Namjoon in days by now, sometimes catching glimpses of him at the dorm. Even at the studio, there was no sign of Namjoon anywhere. Yoongi knew that he was avoiding him, but instead of feeling happier about it, it made Yoongi's stomach twist uncomfortably. These days without seeing Namjoon were the worst in the time he's been a trainee. Arguing and fighting with Namjoon had become something he surprisingly found comfort in and now that it was gone, he felt something missing from his life again.
Weeks had passed now and Yoongi started to give up on ever bickering with Namjoon again. He got what he wanted now, he could work in peace. One day, however, Yoongi heard someone walk up to the studio door and as soon as he heard it open, someone mumbling curses as they hit their foot on the doorframe, he knew who it was.
And he wasn't really sure he was ready for what was going to happen next.
Yoongi waited as Namjoon walked in and closed the door behind him. There was an uneasy silence blanketing them now, which made Yoongi bite the inside of his cheek nervously. He wasn't really sure how long they stayed like that, both waiting for the other to say something, anything, to break the silence. Then he heard feet shuffling closer to him. "Hyung..." Oh . Yoongi turned around and looked up at Namjoon who looked just as nervous as he sounded, no better off than Yoongi himself.
"What is it? I'm busy right now." Old habits die hard, he guessed. He could see Namjoon wince slightly because of his tone, the usual frown on his face apparent once again.
"Why do you have to be such an ass?" Yoongi shrugs.
"Why do you have to be so annoying?" Min Yoongi, what the fuck are you doing. Namjoon's jaw clenched, anger beginning to burn in his eyes again.
"Look, I don't know what the fuck I did to make you talk to me like that but I'm sorry, okay? Is that what you fucking wanted? An apology?" Yoongi shrugged again.
"Did you come here for that? Did you avoid me for literal weeks just for that ?"
"I wasn't avoiding you-"
"Oh, cut the bullshit. You and I both fucking know it's true!"
"Okay, fine! Yeah, I was fucking avoiding you! But you didn't even fucking try looking for me or either! So you shouldn't even fucking say anything in the first place!" Yoongi stood up, getting into Namjoon's space expecting him to back up. Instead, he was now a little too close to Namjoon's face and he couldn't help but glance down to his lips.
"What're you gonna do about it then?" Yoongi asked quietly, eyes still trained on Namjoon's mouth. Yoongi felt Namjoon grip at the collar of his shirt and pulled him in as he collided their mouths together in a heated, but clumsy, kiss, inexperience noticeable on Namjoon's part. Yoongi's hands went straight to Namjoon's hair, tugging it as they kept kissing. Namjoon let out a low moan, which spurred Yoongi further, licking Namjoon's bottom lip and slipping his tongue inside. Yoongi felt Namjoon let go of his shirt and placed his hands on his waist, trying to maneuver the both of them somewhere away from the desk full of equipment. Yoongi felt his back hit the wall. "Na-hn-Namjoon-ah," he let out a long, higher pitched moan as Namjoon pulled away and kissed down to his neck, attempting to suck hickeys into it. Yoongi let out a breathy laugh which turned into a groan as he tipped his head against the wall, encouraging Namjoon to keep going.
Namjoon returned to Yoongi's mouth, kissing him until they both had to pull away to catch their breath. Yoongi closed the gap again, the intensity of their kisses growing as he pulled on Namjoon to move towards the couch across from them. "Hyung," Namjoon breathed in between kisses, "ah, shit-"
Yoongi woke up alone on the sofa in the studio, frowning as he sat up and looked around for Namjoon. "That bastard..." Yoongi rubbed at his face and eyes as he tried to fully wake up. When he finally stood and walked towards the desk, he saw a note from Namjoon, letting him know that he went for some coffee, but that he would be back soon. Namjoon did return, walking in with two iced americanos in hand and a smile on his face.
"Good morning, I brought you coffee. Hope I got it right..." Namjoon handed over a cup to Yoongi and sat on the sofa as he took a sip from his.
"How... how did you know what kind of coffee I drink?" Namjoon choked on his drink and coughed awkwardly.
"I... uh I think I saw or heard you one day?" Yoongi raised an eyebrow and Namjoon sighed. "Okay, I kinda noticed things about you from far away. Is that creepy?"
"Hmm... Maybe a little but..." Yoongi took a sip from his coffee, "thank you." They looked at each other awkwardly. "So, um, last night happened, huh?" Namjoon groaned and tried hiding his face in his hands.
"That... That was something and I don't even know how to unpack it."
"Well, um..." Yoongi cleared his throat, feeling the telltale signs of a blush forming on his cheeks, "I think I should apologize for... Well for a lot of things actually. But mainly for just always picking fights with you. It was unnecessary on my part." Namjoon stared in awe before guffawing. Yoongi crossed his arms, unamused. “What’s so funny?”
“Nothing, just... I think we just got off on the wrong foot. Sorry for always fighting with you as well as for criticizing you when we first tried working together. I shouldn’t have done that.” Yoongi nodded. “So…” Namjoon extended his arm and offered a handshake, “Let’s introduce ourselves again. I’m Namjoon.” Yoongi accepted it.
“Yoongi. Though,” Yoongi smirked, “isn’t it a little late now for introductions? We literally made out last night and you even left a bunch of hickeys on my neck.”
“Hyung!”
