Work Text:

The sun was beginning to lower in the sky, painting it in warm tones. The Stardust Crusaders sat around their steadily growing fire watching the flames lick the air as Joseph tossed in the odd log or stick. Kakyoin settled onto the sand next to Jotaro. They didn't have to talk, just being around him was enough. Kakyoin was still new to the whole 'having friends' thing, and having someone like Jotaro to stand by and sit in comfortable silence with was nice. The delinquent placed a cigarette between his lips and lit it. There was a time when Kakyoin may have insisted he put it out, but by now the smell of cigarette smoke was becoming comforting. He sighed contentedly and stared into the bright flames before him.

"Oi, Kakyoin-kun." The red-head turned at the sound of Akarui's voice. He was met with something being thrown into his chest. It rustled like plastic and seemed to be weighed down by its contents. Kakyoin fumbled with the bag. The crinkling sound gained Jotaro's attention. Looking down, they both saw that in Kakyoin's hands was a bag of cherries. The honor student gasped. His head snapped up to look at Akarui. She smiled slightly down at him. His mouthed moved as if he were trying to find the right words to say. Akarui chuckled slightly and shoved her hands in her pockets. "You're welcome, Kak." She mused before walking over to her sister and sitting down. Kakyoin looked down at the bag of cherries in his hands. In all their time during this trip, he hadn't had many cherries. He had recently discussed his fondness for the fruit with Akarui. He didn't think she'd remember. He looked over at the navy-haired girl. She had her sketchpad out and seemed to be busy sketching something. Kakyoin wondered what she was drawing. He could ask later. He looked back down at the cherries again and took one out. "If you do that thing again, I swear to God I will pummel you." Jotaro muttered from beside him. Kakyoin looked over at him and laughed. He popped the cherry in his mouth. "But doesn't that just demonstrate that I'm skilled with my tongue." He purred under his breath. Jotaro shoved him away, turning his head to hide his embarrassment. Kakyoin laughed, taking the cherry out of his mouth so as not to choke. He leaned back over. "Don't be mad, Jotaro-kun, I want your help with something." Jotaro scowled further. "If you're about to say something pervy-" Kakyoin shook his head and chuckled. "No, no. Akarui got me such a thoughtful gift, I want your help thinking of a gift to say thank you."

Akarui took the map from Joseph. "Joestar-san, you had it sideways." She informed the older man, handing him back the map the correct way. Joseph chuckled and scratched the back of his head. She smirked and rolled her eyes. "Akarui!" She turned around and saw Kakyoin rushing over to her. She stopped and turned fully to face him. "What is it, Kakyoin?" She asked. He smiled brightly and stopped a little ways in front of her. She noticed that he seemed to be holding something behind his back. She eyed him with curiosity. "What do you have?" She asked. "I wanted to say thank you for those cherries you got me yesterday, so I went and got you this." Kakyoin brought his hands to is front, revealing a popsicle decorated like a watermelon slice. Akarui's eyes widened ever so slightly. She looked up into Kakyoin's face. "It tastes like how it looks." He told her, pushing the popsicle into her hand. "I...you remembered that watermelon is my favorite..?" She seemed befuddled by the popsicle. Kakyoin laughed. "Of course. You remembered cherries were mine." Akarui smiled softly. "Thank you."
