Work Text:
“Okay we’re done!” Mina exclaimed, finally stepping away and allowing Ochako to open her eyes.
Toru squealed and clapped excitedly.
“Girl trust me, Deku won't be able to keep his hands off you.” They rotated Mina’s desk chair, turning the bubbly brunette to face the vanity.
In their first year, Mina had a problem with turning in papers and whatnot with smears of blush and lipstick on the pages. Mr. Aizawa had complained to Midnight, and when the R rated hero investigated, it was discovered that Mina had turned her desk into her own personal beauty studio. And it was a mess.
It was decided that in order to preserve whatever shreds of sanity Aizawa still had, an actual vanity would be installed in the rooms of all the girls that wanted one. The alien girl had actually screamed when she found out, and many of the others had been very excited as well. The new vanities were spacious, with a ton of drawers, and the large mirror mounted on the wall and lit up with a simple touch to the corner of the frame.
Even now, Mina’s space was a disaster. She had painted the vanity to match her room, and it was still arguably the most cluttered space (besides the closet), littered with brushes and smears of blush and lipstick that stuck out against the dark paint.
“What do you think?”
Ochako stared at her reflection, taking it in. “...”
“Well?” The invisible teen pressed, leaning forward eagerly. While most of the girls had been doing other things while Mina and Toru had focused on giving Ochako a makeover, they all looked up now to pay attention to the results.
“Uh. I'm sorry. I just hallucinated.”
Mina flicked her in the side of her head.
“No seriously.”
Toru was basically bouncing as the three took in the results of Ochako’s makeover. “What do you think?”
Ochako sighed tiredly.
“ Girls . I look like a whore.”
The sound of Tsu’s face-palm echoed around the room, causing Momo to look up from her book. The normally sophisticated girl had to cover her mouth to prevent a very unladylike laugh from slipping out.
“And not even a very good one.” Ochako added.
Kyoka sighed and jumped down from where she was sitting on Mina's (actual) desk, grabbing a makeup wipe on her way. “Don’t be vulgar, Ochako, we can still fix this.” She studied the mess on Ochako’s face.
“Okay first of all, I don't know why you two bothered with blush, she's already naturally pink and she really just looks like kirby now. The lipstick is fine but why purple eyeshadow? Ochako no offense, but you look like you’re coming for Mina’s title of ‘Racoon-eyes’”
A scoff from the bed. “As if.”
“OKAY IN OUR DEFENSE, IT IS MUCH HARDER TO DO IT ON ANOTHER PERSON.”
Kyoka took the wipe and gently rubbed the offending eyeshadow and blush off Ochako’s cheeks and eyes, careful not to mess up the eyeliner. “You don’t even wear makeup, Toru why are you getting so bent out of shape?”
“Neither do you, kero.” Tsu pointed out as Kyoka threw away the wipe and set to re-applying a more subtle color to the brunette eyelids.
Kyoka shrugged. “Just because I choose not to wear makeup doesn't mean I don't know how to do it.” She nodded at the mirror, and nudged the chair around again.
“Better?” she asked, and Ochako nodded so enthusiastically, she might as well have been a bobblehead.
“And someone take the gummy bears away from those two, they’ve had enough.”
Mina and Toru protested, but their whines were ignored as Momo reached over and snatched the snacks from where they had settled on the pink girl’s bed.
“Neither of you is allowed near my face ever again.” Ochako added matter of factly. “Especially not after eating like 179 gummy bears.”
“Where did that number even come from?” Mina pouted.
Ochako ignored her and clasped her hands, turning back to face Jirou. “Kyoka, you are a literal GODDESS and you are now my official makeup advisor. Forever. Till the end of time.” She punctuated each thought with a sharp nod of her head.
Kyoka laughed lightly, and bowed slightly. “As the lady wishes.”
“This is so much more fun than the boy’s sleepovers.” Mina remarked, watching offhandedly as Toru tried (unsuccessfully) to grab their snacks back.
“Oh i've always been curious, what's that like?” Momo tilted her head in curiosity, paying no mind to the invisible girl trying to wrestle the bags of candy from her.
“They just play videogames and say “Bro” and “Dude” like 200 times every hour. It’s really not any surprise why the other guys don't join.”
Ochako laughed. “Then why even go?”
Mina smirked. “Someone’s gotta show them how it's done. Especially when it comes to eyeliner competitions.”
She snickered at the girls' shocked faces. “You didn’t think they just looked that beautiful naturally, did you? Apparently Katsuki’s been doing it for years, but I taught Eijirou when we started dating. Katsuki made a comment about how he could do it better, and that's how it started. I win a decent amount of the time, but Katsuki’s right, he really can do it better.”
“Okay, can I just say, I learn SO MUCH at these sleepovers.” Ochako marveled.
Mina nodded. “Yeah our boys are a mess. I can't even tell you the number of times i've had to throw out Ei’s 2-in-1 shampoo.”
The girls all shuddered. Ew.
Tsu put a finger to her chin.
“It's a shame Mei and Itsuka couldn't make it.” She croaked.
“It's our own fault for not inviting them earlier. It can be easy to forget that not everyone is on the same schedule as us, especially our friends in other classes.” Kyoko remarked offhandedly, moving to sit on the floor at Momo’s feet. Momo passed the snacks down to her, and Toru huffed in protest before throwing her hands up in defeat and joining Mina on the bed where the alien girl was laying on her stomach, head leaning on her palms. “Speaking of the boys, what are the updates? C'mon gimme the deets.”
Everyone in the room shifted, getting more comfortable. Whether they were on the floor, the bed, or sitting in bean bags, they all settled in.
“Todoroki and I have plans to take a walk in the park this weekend to look at the cherry blossoms and then go to dinner after.”
Mina nodded “That sounds appropriately practical for the two of you, Toru?”
“Ojiro’s taking me to his favorite ice cream place for the first time!” There was a round of ‘aww’’s and ‘yay!’’s
“Okay next would be Kyoka and Tsu, but neither of you tells me anything , unfortunately.” Mina mused aloud. “So that just leaves you Ocha, babe. What’s the deal with Deku?”
Ochako groaned loudly, her head falling back dramatically. Momo patted her shoulder comfortingly.
“Uh oh, that doesn’t sound good.”
“I mean at least he’s still talking to me.”
“Define talking…”
“Well…” She thought for a moment. “Oh! Well he always asks me how my day was before we pack up at the end of the day!”
Mina rolled her eyes. “That's great, Ochako. Is that the only interaction you two have had since you confessed?”
“No!” Ochako protested. “Sometimes I say ‘okay’ instead of ‘fine.’”
The girls all collectively groaned.
She huffed, sitting back up and tucking her hair behind her ears. “I just wanna cuddle and hold his hand and kiss his cute face over and over again, but how are we supposed to do ANYTHING if he won’t ask me out?”
“You could always ask him out first.” Kyoka pointed out.
“I would, you know I would, but I’m always the one to initiate things! Just once, I want him to make the first move.”
“Have you tried giving him a little motivation ?” Mina grinned, wiggling her eyebrows.
Momo, Tsu and Kyoka exchanged looks.
“I don’t like where this is going, kero.” The frog girl croaked out.
“Oh nothing that bad.” Mina shrugged them off. “I’m just saying, what if you were to, say accidentally , drop your pen in front of him, and let him get a grasp at the gravity of the situation?”
“Was that supposed to be a butt joke or a quirk joke?”
“Girl look. It works all the time with Eijiro, just trust me.”
Ochako gave her a look. Mina returned it with equal intensity, one eyebrow raised.
“Do you remember that group presentation we had on ‘how to handle invasive members of the press’ last month?”
Ochako nodded tentatively.
“Yeah well I got him to do the whole thing by himself.”
“Mina!” Momo scolded her. “How are you supposed to learn if you never do the work? And besides, that’s hardly a fair trade.”
“Is that really all you did?” Toru questioned.
Mina shrugged. “I mean I also sucked his-”
The invisible girl screeched and accidentally tumbled off the bed. “AHHH NONONO FORGET I ASKED.”
“MINA, I AM NOT DOING THAT !”
Momo’s eyes were wide with mortification. “I shudder to think about the lengths you will go to avoid doing the heavy lifting.”
“Okay okay but still, the first part works wonders. I snap my fingers and he’ll obey.” Mina laughed, waving her arms around dismissing the concerns.
Ochako frowned, and crossed her arms. She wasn't convinced. Mina got up from the bed and walked over to stand in front of the anti-gravity girl. “Okay look.”
Making sure Ochako was watching, Mina reached around her and grabbed a makeup brush, twirling it around her fingers to draw attention to it. Uh oh, here comes a show.
Kyoka laughed and whistled. The alien girl’s face took on a secret-like smirk, and she opened her fingers, letting the brush drop to the carpet, not breaking her gaze. She kept her gaze on the brunette as she turned her body away from her, one leg bent slightly to draw attention to her um...well...to her butt.
Momo was laughing and Toru was cheering, but Mina ignored them, and Ochako couldn't look away, frozen in amazement. Mina finally looked away, but Ochako’s relief was short lived, because her jaw dropped as Mina swooped down and popped back up with the brush in hand. She dropped the sultry look and surveyed the room smiling her usual energizing smile.
The laughs and cheers that erupted from the room could probably be heard all throughout the dorms, but the girls couldn't find it in themselves to care. Even Tsu was smiling, and Kyoka was slow clapping loudly and repeating ‘encore’ over and over with a grin on her face.
“Oh my GOD” Ochako laughed, breathless. “There is no way I can do that.”
Mina scoffed. “ What, like it's hard? ”
“Okay rude, I'm walking away from this conversation now.” She tried to stand up out of the chair, but Mina gave her a little push back down.
“Wait wait wait, don't diss it before you try it!” Mina held the brush out, offering it to Ochako teasingly, and the brunette reluctantly took it.
Ochako stared at the makeup brush in her hand, her earlier bravado gone. Why am I suddenly nervous?
“Cmon dont be such a butthead.”
“Pardon?” Momo asked, scandalized. Tsu looked like she had just eaten something particularly sour.
Ochako laughed in disbelief. “I can't believe you just called me a butthead. I don't think anybody has called me a butthead since the 9th grade.”
Mina stuck out her tongue. “Maybe not to your face.” She made a shooing motion, flapping her hands at Ochako, motioning for her to get up.
“Alright alright I’m going” Ochako scrunched her nose in annoyance, but stood up and switched places with the pink girl, stepping around each other.
The brunette took a deep breath in through her nose and let it hiss out satisfyingly through her mouth. Okay just drop it, and bend down to pick it up.
She dropped the brush unceremoniously, nowhere near as flashy as Mina had, bent down to grab it, and popped back up, the makeup brush in her hand. There. Easy-peasy. She let the brush lay flat in her palm, and looked down, smiling softly. That wasn’t so bad.
She was shaken out of her relief by Mina’s shell-shocked reaction.
“Shut. Up.”
Ochako startled. She turned around nervously and took in the girls shocked reactions. Momo looked at Tsu confused, and whispered “But she didn't say anything?”
“What Mina means is that it was surprisingly good, kero.” Tsu explained.
Mina picked her jaw up off the floor and shook her head rapidly. “You've been holding out on us, babe!”
Ochako let out a breath she didn't know she had been holding and visibly relaxed. “So it wasn't bad then?”
Mina shook her head again and picked up her phone, leaning against the vanity and tapping at the screen smirking.
Ochako tried to peer over Mina's shoulder. “What on earth are you doing?”
“I’m telling Ei that he needs to find a new girlfriend because I'm leaving him for you”
Ochako rolled her eyes and swatted at her arm and Kyoka laughed as Mina continued tapping away.
“What are you actually texting him?”
“Lol just telling him goodnight.”
"Did you just...like out loud?"
Ochako huffed. “Okay but seriously girls, how was it?”
Mina tucked her phone away and all of a sudden went into overdrive. “Okay so next time, I want you to try suck in your gut when you bend down. And try to lean down, not out, that'll help accentuate everything.”
Ochako nodded with uncertainty, surprised by Mina’s sudden focus. “Uh okay…”
The pink girl's eyes sparkled as she had another thought. “OH! And snap back more when you pop up! Really get some momentum to shock him out of his trance.”
Ochako nodded again. “Right.”
Mina held her gaze fiercely before her thoughts kicked in and did a complete 180. “Oooh who brought Hello Panda Cookies?”
Everyone except Toru (Who was apparently used to the sudden switches of intensity and focus) looked at eachother, completely shell-shocked.
Tsu shrugged, and they moved on, Momo suggesting they paint each other's nails.
Training today took place outside. Most likely more quirk training, they had been told to get dressed in hero costumes and meet outside in one of the on-campus training grounds. The class stood in groups, just chatting and hanging out leisurely while they waited for Aizawa-sensei. Ochako stood off by the side, just observing Deku interacting with Ayoma, Kaminari, and Kirishima. An interesting grouping indeed, but whatever they were talking about, they were all contributing animatedly, and with rigor. Probably talking about quirk drawbacks or something. Ochako shrugged, despite the fact that there was no one currently around.
Mina came up to stand beside her, startling her out of her silent adoration. “You ready?”
Ochako laughed, confused. “What on earth for?”
Mina stared at her.
Ochako’s eyes went wide as it sunk in. Oh.
“I THOUGHT YOU WERE KIDDING.” Ochako hissed.
“You thought…”
Mina laughed loudly, ignoring Ochako’s blush and frantic attempts to get her to quiet down. “Oh no girl, I was 100% serious.”
“Mina, no…” Ochako warned, but her protests fell on deaf ears.
“HEY IZU C'MERE.”
Mina raised up on her tiptoes, waving her arm wildly. The boy in question looked over in their direction and his face split into a grin as he took them in, lightly waving goodbye to his group and breaking out into a jog as he made his way over to where they were standing.
“Oh my god Mina no please.” Ochako whispered, pleading as they watched the greenette bound up.
“Too late.” The pink girl sang under her breath just as Izuku Midoriya, the living ray of sunshine himself, came up to them, completely unaware of how much Ochako really wanted to smack Mina over the head. Preferably with something heavy. Maybe a dictionary.
Ochako’s slightly murderous thoughts were interrupted by fingers tapping one of the hands by her side. Ochako looked down in bewilderment and did a double take at the office pen that had somehow found its way into her palm.
How did that...wait.
WHY DOES SHE EVEN HAVE A PEN ON HER????
“Good afternoon girls!” Deku’s warm voice brought her focus back.
Gosh he’s pretty.
Unintentionally , She scrutinized the boy in front of her as he struck up a conversation with the pink skinned girl. There was a slight breeze, and his curls ruffled. He was definitely buff too. Her gaze fell over his arms and chest appreciatively ( and respectfully of course ). He had filled out his hero costume incredibly well in the past year, the green jumpsuit no longer oversized, instead hugging his muscles comfortably. He’d gotten sunburnt a couple times during the class beach days over the summer, and as a result, his freckles had almost doubled. His natural blush just accentuated them, and he really did look strangely beautiful.
She watched his face as he chatted with Mina and she jumped a little when she felt a hand pressed her back reassuringly.
Oh crap how long was I just standing there? I have REALLY got to stop zoning out.
“Oop sorry guys, Eijiro’s calling me.”
LIAR.
Mina ignored Ochako’s death glare and stepped around Deku, walking back in the direction the greenette had come from, waving at her very confused boyfriend (Who had definitely NOT just called her over). “Coming babe!”
Mina gave her an exaggerated thumbs up as she ran backwards and away from her and Deku. Ochako nodded awkwardly, trying to calm her raging nerves as Deku puttered on, probably about whatever exercise Aizawa-sensei had planned today.
Suck in, down not out, momentum. Okay I can do this.
She let go of the pen slightly behind her, trying her best not to draw attention to it.
“ Oh crap I dropped my pen!” She said loudly, stopping Deku’s ramble as he turned his attention to her. “Let me pick that up… ”
She turned slightly to face away from Deku, and bent down just like Mina had showed her the night before, sucking in and bending down, not out.
Ahhh I did it!
She bounced right up excitedly, but she hadn't been paying attention, and hadn't noticed that Deku had bent down to reach for the pen with her.
Startled, she turned awkwardly with the pen in hand just as Deku was standing up again, elbowing him in the face! HARD.
“Eeeeeh!!! Oh crap!”
A few minutes later, sitting side by side on a cot in Recovery Girl’s room, a tired boy and an EXTREMELY apologetic young girl dealt with the disastrous aftermath of one of the 2-A girl’s sleepovers. (And the knowledge that the rest of the class was never going to let either of them live this down. EVER.)
“Oh gosh Deku I'm so so sorry! I didn’t mean to, it was just this stupid thing the girls thought of at the sleepover, I just wanted you to ask me out, I didnt think Mina would actually make me do it!”
“Uraraka . ”
“I didn’t know you were going to grab for the pen too, otherwise I wouldn't have tried to do it. And I didn’t mean to pop up so hard, and there was so much blood and I feel so bad!
“ ‘Chako… ”
“Ugh I feel so stupid, I’m gonna kill Mina, you know. Her and her stupid boy advice. Oh crap, I just thought of something, are you going to need surgery for your nose?! I can pay for it, here let me call my parents real quick, i'll just-”
Ochako’s long-winded apology was cut short by the sudden feeling of lips crushed against hers. His palms were warm, she had no idea when he had grabbed her cheeks, but now he was cupping her face in both of his hands, her eyes closed and she felt herself leaning into him and melting into his embrace. His lips were slightly chapped, but it felt magical and perfect, even if she had to be careful to avoid his nose.
They broke away, and one of his hands dropped to grab for hers. She leaned into the palm still pressed against her face, and hummed contently, eyes still closed. They sat there for a few mins, Ochako just focusing on the feeling of Deku holding her, of Izuku’s thumb rubbing circles over the back of her hand.
It was the green haired boy who finally broke their comfortable silence with a small laugh under his breath. “You know they say an elbow to the face can really put things into perspective.”
Ochako opened her eyes and laughed at the shy smile on Izuku’s face.
“Oh do they?”
“Mhm. For example, there's this really pretty girl in my class that i've been meaning to ask out for a while.”
Ochako hummed, twisting her face into something along the lines of mock disappointment. “You should really get on that.”
“And I will, but first I want to do this.” He kissed her again and she giggled against his lips, allowing him to kiss her for a little bit longer before putting her palms against his chest and pushing him away gently.
For a moment, they just stayed like that. Ochako grasped the opportunity to rake her gaze over his face, memorizing every handsome detail without shame. Her eyes caught on the bandages over his nose. She knew a broken nose sucked, it was difficult to splint because there wasn't much to tape it to. This usually led to an awkward taping of gauze, but Recovery Girl had done a good job of making it a little less bulky and weird. She tilted her head slightly.
“Does it hurt?”
He looked up at her, face blank. “It feels like sunshine and roses.” He said, voice monotone and dripping with sarcasm.
She snorted loudly and burst out laughing.
“I SAID I WAS SORRY!”
“YOU ASKED IF IT HURT. IT DOES.”
“When did you get so sassy?”
“It probably has something to do with the pain meds recovery girl gave me.” He sighed and rubbed the back of his neck tiredly. “They're not doing as much for the pain as I would like though.”
“Alright well we can't have that.” Still smiling, she gently grabbed Izuku’s face in her hands, bringing his attention back. She tilted his face down a bit and kissed his forehead right above the bandages. “There.”
She lifted his face upwards, and laughed again when she noticed how red his face had gone.
Neither of them noticed the girls peeking around the corner, or the small squeak that came from the invisible girl when their lips met again.
Mina hummed, satisfied with a job well done. Suddenly her face took on that wicked grin again, and she turned to the aubergine-haired girl “So about Denki…”
“Absolutely not.”
