Chapter Text
Look at the stars,
Look how they shine for you,
And everything you do,
Yeah, they were all yellow.
Dark eyes opened to a trickle of bright light shining in through slightly parted blinds, it was too bright. Midousuji blinked once before his eyes opened wearily. His dreams had tormented him last night, one colour sticking in his mind causing him nausea. Ever since that race with Sakamichi, that was the glasses kids name right? He had been unable to process anything other than the words he had said to him. Not only that but memories of his mother flooded back to him with full intensity. This had been happening for the past three days now, causing his mind no rest.
"It's because I'm having fun!"
A bright smile, covered in sunflowers and yellow caused his eyes to close halfway. There was nothing more gross then not being able to get a stupid face out of your head and it was wearing away at Midousuji's patience.
"Akira?" His eyes shot open and darted to the open door in his room, he glowered at the woman in the doorway. She seemed to shrivel at his wide-eyed stare, her body shying away from the confrontation.
"I did knock, are you feeling okay?" His aunt asked sheepishly. His lips twisted in a wide grimace, causing his teeth to clank together; his gaze still wide and empty.
"Fine" He replied, she shot another look at him and nodded.
"Did you want any breakfast before school? You have training afterwards don't you?" She asked, he nodded half-heartedly. His attention turned back to the slightly opened blinds.
His aunt took a last look at him and sighed. He heard the door gently shut and he stood up, stretching his lanky body just to hear his joints crack.
"Especially when i'm with someone else."
That smile. He grabbed his bag and took one last look at the window.
Gross.
Cycling to school was tiresome. Not only had he barely had any sleep, not doing the bags under his eyes any justice, he had lost any passion to ride.
"Akira, you've been smiling a lot since you've started cycling."
He focused on the road ahead, the scenery seemed to blur into one as he pedalled harder, seemingly trying to ride away from his thoughts. Memories he did not need to remember flashed in and out of his head like an infectious disease.
School passed quickly enough, just the same mediocre studies he had given up on paying attention to his studies long ago. All throughout his lectures that stupid smile was a reoccurring nightmare, that bright smile covering his vision in pure yellow. Yellow. He felt like he needed a heavy object to hit him over the head to cure him of these gross thoughts.
"Midousuji! Are you ready for training?" The loud voice of Ishigaki, the teams captain, rang in his ears. His grimace-smile returned, covering his features turning them almost sinister.
"Captain-kun" He drawled out, his voice lacking emotion or passion of any kind, the only emotion he held was the unpleasant grin on his face. "I'm afraid I can't make it today."
Ishigaki's brows furrowed, he looked at the lanky boy in front of him in bewilderment. "But you always come to training, has anything happened?"
Midousuji started laughing eerily, he wiped his mouth and smiled again. "I've got a busy schedule Captain and at the moment there is something in need of sorting out."
He swung his shoulder bag around his body and placed his foot on the pedal. Ishigaki moved forward, panic on his features.
"W-Wait Midousuji where are you goin--" But that was all that Midousuji heard before he took off, not caring for the conversation at hand any more. He pedalled as hard as he could, down the silent road, his destination unbeknownst to him.
He had intended just to go home as cycling with the team wasn't on his top priority of things to do after school had finished, however his legs had other plans as they continued to pedal.
"Cycling is fun"
His wheels screeched to a halt, he planted his feet firmly on the ground and stared ahead. His eyes were wide and his breathing slightly erratic.
Why do I keep thinking of what that disgusting Sohoku small fry had said, I don't get it. Not only was it completely vile to him but it brought up memories he would have rather had forgotten about. Memories that still haunted him.
His mothers calm face flashed before his eyes, followed by Onoda's wide smile. Midousuji's face became stoic as he cycled away, his destination already decided.
