Work Text:
Kim Taehyung was never one for keeping up with famous people. He had other things to focus on, like photography and painting and his dog Yeontan and school. He doesn’t really have social media and never checks the news. This means that his primary source of celebrity news comes from one Jeon Jungkook.
So really, this is all Jeon Jungkook’s fault.
Taehyung is minding his own business, sipping on hot chocolate and reading articles for his Death and Dying capstone class on his bed when Jungkook throws open his door and lets out a loud exhale.
“Dude,” Taehyung starts. “What goes on?” Upon closer inspection, Jungkook looks like he is shaking. Taehyung takes a long sip of his hot chocolate.
Now, Taehyung would be more concerned for his housemate- if this didn’t happen on an almost scheduled basis. The schedule, of course, follows whatever schedule RM is on.
“He was insane for this,” Jungkook breathes out. “My first and last idol, oh my god.”
And Taehyung is used to this part too. Jungkook can wax poetic about his favorite rapper (Kim Namjoon, stage name: RM, born on September 12th in 1994, from BigHit Entertainment- Taehyung can recite RM’s basic profile and entire discography in his sleep at this point) any day of the week, at any given time.
Jungkook flops onto Taehyung’s bed with a dramatic flourish, clutching his phone to his chest. The force makes the hot chocolate slosh around, but no actual damage is done to his bedsheets. This time. Taehyung sets his cup down on his bedside table before there is a repeat of last month’s debacle. “New song?” he asks, because Taehyung is a supportive friend.
“He featured on a song! They dropped the music video today!! Look!!!” And look, Taehyung does.
But only because the speed in which Jungkook directs his phone towards Taehyung’s face is incredible. He gets almost cross-eyed trying to focus on the screen.
RM looks as hot as ever. The ever sexy tall glass of water to Jungkook’s never ending thirst.
And then, the music video shifts towards someone else and with platinum blonde hair and intense eyes and -
And-
And-
Listen here, okay? Taehyung doesn’t think he has seen a more perfect mouth in his life, holy shit.
It feels like the world was previously tilted off its axis and miraculously righted itself the moment Taehyung looked at this person.
Taehyung’s mind is buffering. He suddenly cannot compute. Taehyung.exe has stopped working. Whatever executive functioning that is involved in comprehension has decided to take a break.
Taehyung likes to think that he is familiar with RM’s style and delivery by now. The man’s lyrics are straight poetry. An intricate integration of metaphors and flowery lines and emotional brilliance.
But this new person’s rapping is- aggressive. Feels like whoever this is could punch him in the face and Taehyung would say thank you. It’s raw and passionate and straight fire.
So the combination of the stunning visuals and the deep, angry lyrics is enough to give Taehyung whiplash. He even feels a little lightheaded. “Who’s that ?" Because, wow, first things first- shout out to whoever his parents are for making that .
Jungkook looks smug as fuck. Like he has just introduced Taehyung to the love of his life. “This is Agust D- he just dropped his first mixtape.”
“Okay,” Taehyung nods. His body feels like it is vibrating. “Sign me up,” he says.
“For what?”
Taehyung makes a vague hand gesture that encompasses. Everything. “That.”
When Taehyung is 20 years old, he learns who Agust D is.
From then on, there is no force in this world powerful enough to make Taehyung unlearn him.
-
Sure, Jungkook doesn’t mean to spiral Taehyung into delving deep into Agust D’s entire discography that day, but that is kind of what happens anyway.
He had plans for that day, promising to be productive after Jungkook left to go do whatever Jungkook does. Taehyung was supposed to go to the grocery store. He was supposed to go do his laundry. He was supposed to be a productive adult.
Instead, Taehyung finds himself sitting in front of his computer, impatiently waiting for Naver searches to load. “Min Yoongi, better known as Agust D,” Taehyung mutters out loud, carefully sounding out the syllables that make up his name. Oh wow, he sounds like Jungkook. Taehyung scrolls through BigHit’s information page with startling focus, searching for a familiar pair of intense eyes and platinum blonde hair. Somewhere, in the back of his mind, he recognizes that this is the same company as RM’s. But that is not who Taehyung is looking at right now.
“Born on March 9th in 1993, hometown is Daegu-” Oh. Same. This little piece of knowledge makes Taehyung inexplicably happy, for reasons he cannot explain. He soldiers on. This really is all Jungkook’s fault, he thinks. It’s definitely the spirit of Jungkook who makes him click on that one link that reads “Agust D - ‘Agust D’ MV”.
He has. Thoughts. About it.
What is ‘tongue technology’ and how does one acquire such a thing? Is this tongue technology responsible for why Agust D sounds the way he does? Because. Wow. He was not lying when he said Taehyung would get turned on by it.
And listen, Taehyung has never seen someone say “sorry” while also flipping off a camera, but wow- this is an entire experience.
He takes a look at his desk calendar. August 16, 2016. Okay, well. That sounds like a good enough life changing date as any.
Taehyung shamelessly spends the next two and a half hours trying to rap along to “give it to me”.
-
It starts off as mild interest- really, it does. And in Taehyung’s weak defense, Agust D is the hottest person he has ever seen in his life.
Taehyung is but a simple person. What is he going to do, not be a fan of the most talented and gorgeous man he has ever seen in his life?
Ha.
-
Taehyung’s interest in his newly found favorite famous person escalates quickly.
And because it escalates quickly, it doesn’t take long for Taehyung’s newfound interest to garner interest within his close group of friends. But to be fair, he only has, like, two friends.
It takes five days.
And Taehyung isn’t even doing anything when it happens. He is just looking at the lock screen on his phone. And yes, it is a picture of Agust D. Blonde and kind of grungy looking and with a gaze that tells Taehyung that sometimes the world is a shitty place but that he’ll still make it through okay.
It happens when Jimin realizes that Taehyung hasn’t been paying attention to their conversation for the past five minutes, noticeably distracted by his phone instead. When Jimin realizes that Taehyung’s lock screen photo has changed from a cute picture of Yeontan to a hot boy, Jimin does what all soulmate best friends do.
“Who is that?” he teases.
Taehyung blushes immediately, stalling in his answer. He pockets his phone, like that will erase what Jimin has already seen. “Uhmmmmmmm,” he drags out his words, trying to come up with a proper explanation. Jungkook stops what he is doing at the sound of Taehyung’s distress, feeling the need to be included.
“What are we talking about?” Jungkook asks.
“Taetae has a picture of a boy as his wallpaper!” Jimin has a shit eating grin on his face.
Jungkook, too, adopts a shit eating grin on his face. Taehyung’s heart sighs at the sight. It looks better on Jimin. Well, he has already been caught, so might as well come out with it.
“Agust D,” Taehyung mumbles. “Min Yoongi. Rapper with BigHit. A god amongst men, really.” Taehyung is still mumbling, but like. With pride.
“Okay, if we are talking about a god amongst men, then shouldn’t we be talking about-” Jungkook gets cut off by Jimin, only to be attacked.
“BitHit?” When Jimin hums thoughtfully and asks, “Oh, is this the rapper Jungkook likes?”- Taehyung and Jungkook look at him, betrayed.
They simultaneously shout, “No!” because they clearly have their own preferences. Not to say that either rapper is more talented or attractive than the other. It’s just that Jungkook and Taehyung prefer to stay in their own lane, is all.
The way Jimin giggles makes it clear that he was just teasing. Of course he knows the boy on Taehyung’s lock screen isn’t RM. He isn’t very much into the rap/hip hop scene, but he has seen him enough on Jungkook’s phone to know the difference.
Now, Jimin is one of Taehyung’s long time best friends. His fellow 95-er. His soulmate. And as such, because he is such a good friend, he takes in Taehyung’s blush and pout and shifty eyes and immediately comes to educated conclusions. He smiles widely and coos at his precious Taetae. “Aww, you have a crush!”
“I do not,” Taehyung mumbles, swatting at Jimin halfheartedly. “Lies and slander.” It’s not a crush , per say.
Jimin steals another look at Taehyung’s lock screen wallpaper and- “He’s hot.”
Taehyung is immediately defensive. “Get your own crush.”
“Oh?” Jungkook grins. “What happened to not having a crush?”
Okay, so maybe it is a crush. Whatever.
Jimin doesn’t understand the need to be defensive- but a pouty Taehyung is a powerful Taehyung, so he tries to correct himself. “He’s not hot?” Jimin tries.
Taehyung is appalled at Jimin’s choice of words. The sheer audacity. “How could you say such a thing?”
There is no winning with Kim Taehyung.
-
By this point in his life, Taehyung has had a crush of Agust D for several months now. He has gradually made the move from calling Agust D by his stage name to Yoongi. This happens when Taehyung realizes that while he still thinks the rapper is hot as fuck and that every song he produces is a banger- Taehyung finds that he is also a fan of who Min Yoongi is as a person.
It’s just a regular night of Taehyung trying to write a paper for his research seminar class and Taehyung not actually getting any writing done.
He has written two hundred words in the past hour. That calls for a break, right?
Taehyung opens his web browser and peruses YouTube with only a mild sense of guilt. When his homepage shows him various videos about Agust D, Taehyung immediately feels a sense of happiness.
His algorithm is looking out for him, right? Because what better way to recharge and gain the strength to finish writing his paper than to watch a genius with words at work?
‘Billboard Interview with Agust D’- it is a pretty good interview, to be honest. The interviewer asks him about his latest work, future plans, his artistic direction. Yoongi looks so small , sitting in that chair. He is talking in pout (per usual) and his sweater is the perfect type of baggy that gives him sweater paws. Cute. He’s talking about one of his more famous diss tracks, where he essentially ended the other guy’s career by exposing him as the talentless hack that he is (was?). The duality is sending him. Cute, cute, cute. Taehyung is about to bust the biggest, fattest uwu.
But the highlight of this interview comes in the form of Yoongi being asked, “What do you think about the meaning behind ‘Same Love’”? It is a song that Yoongi has shown support for in the past. The right to love. The right to marry.
Yoongi answers like he has measured the weight of his words, like he knows the power and influence that he holds. “There’s nothing wrong. Everyone is equal.”
The answer was so simple, but the way that Yoongi said it was so matter of fact way- He’s so? Comforting??
Taehyung bursts into tears before he even realizes that he is crying.
He feels seen.
-
Jungkook and Taehyung are sitting across from each other, with Jimin acting like a referee. They sit like this on particularly hectic school nights, where all they want to do is think about anything but school.
“RM’s ‘Reflection’ versus Agust D’s ‘Seesaw’” Jimin says, voice solemn. The twitch in the corner of his lips betrays the seriousness of his tone. “Discuss.”
Talking about their men helps.
It’s all in good fun, even when they start throwing elbows.
-
It takes about a year, but an opportunity arises for Taehyung to see Agust D in concert.
Taehyung had been so proud and excited to snag tickets to the small concert.
It’s just his fucking luck that the first time Taehyung sees Agust D perform live, he blacks out.
Probably.
Because he can’t remember shit.
Sure, he can remember buying the tickets. He even remembers waiting in line for hours for the doors to open. He remembers feeding Jimin and Jungkook snacks as they waited in line. He remembers buying a lightstick and being handed paper banners to hold up at certain songs. He even remembers walking into the venue.
The last thing Taehyung can remember from that night is talking to Jimin before the start of the concert.
“You look stressed,” Jimin whispers in his ears to not disturb the people around him.
“Thanks,” Taehyung whispers back. “It’s the stress.”
And then the lights dim and the opening beats to Agust D’s intro starts and- it’s all just-
From there on, his mind is blank. Head empty. No thoughts.
The next thing he can remember is the train ride home.
Taehyung cries about not being able to remember anything for two whole weeks.
-
Jimin and Jungkook never talk about the first concert. They delete all pictures from the event. What merchandise? Memories, who? They don't know her.
If Taehyung doesn’t remember, then neither do they.
-
Yoongi doesn’t hold any concerts or tours for the rest of the year. Or the year after that. Or even the year after that.
They don’t talk about it.
-
It’s around year two-ish of his fanboying of Agust D when Jimin asks the question that he always forgot to ask in the beginning. “What do you like about him?” There’s no need to specifically say his name- there’s no one else Taehyung likes anyway.
“Min Yoongi is beautiful,” is the instinctive answer, the one that Taehyung says without thinking.
“You’re so shallow,” Jimin teases, even when he knows Taehyung is anything but.
“I am not,” Taehyung snaps back. “I like Yoongi for a lot of reasons.”
Jimin responds, just to respond. “Really?”
“I like him past his mind blowing attractiveness,” he sniffs. Granted, that had been what had initially drawn Taehyung in- but that is just one of the aspects that he has stayed for. Taehyung knows that Jimin was joking about calling him shallow, but he is offended about it anyway. Jimin doesn’t know what he’s done until it’s too late. Once Taehyung gets going about Min Yoongi, he really will not stop.
Jimin tries to save himself. “Tae-”
“Please listen,” Taehyung says, like he is giving Jimin a choice to not listen. Choice is but a mere illusion. A social construct. A beautiful dream. “Yes, Min Yoongi is beautiful- but like, in so many different ways. His rapping is- insane. The sheer talent? Mind blowing. His lyrics, his words? Life changing, even. His gummy smile is the softest, cutest thing. He talks in fucking pout but his words are scathing when it’s about social commentary. That man knows how to put people in their fucking place! And society too! But then! When he speaks about his fans? You can tell how much he fucking cares. It’s hard not to be comforted by his words and his voice and how much he is an advocate for both himself and the people in his life. He’s dedicated! And hardworking! The strongest person ever! He’s gentle and badass-ery personified and he makes me feel like it is okay to not always know what I am doing and I like him a lot!” Taehyung ends his rant with a huff. “Okay?”
“...”
“...”
“Okay.”
Jimin never asks Taehyung what he likes so much about Min Yoongi again.
-
Fast forward a couple years- the year is 2020 and Agust D had dropped his second full mixtape.
Taehyung is still, essentially, the same person.
Well- it would probably be more accurate to say that while Taehyung has grown up a little.
He has since graduated college, gotten a job at a clinic, and works a regular 9 to 5. So in that sense, he has changed a tad, advancing through life in a way that Taehyung can’t complain about.
But his love for Yoongi? That is still very much the same.
-
Taehyung hasn’t been to any Agust D event in a long while- not since the first botched attempt at a concert. Yoongi hadn’t announced any concert dates for years, opting to quietly work on music instead.
But he had been lucky enough to snag tickets to a fan signing event. Yoongi is starting to actively promote himself now, since the drop of his second full mixtape.
Taehyung figures that he is at the point in his life where he should probably try again. He doesn’t even cry at the (lack of) memory of the first concert anymore. Well, he doesn’t cry a lot.
So when Jimin and Jungkook first bring up attending the fan signing event under the reasoning that, “You should get the chance to tell him how much you love him,” Taehyung only pretends to think about not going.
And that’s how they all find themselves once again in a line to see Min Yoongi.
Jimin is here for moral support. Jungkook is here to laugh at Taehyung when he inevitably becomes a shy mess at Min Yoongi’s general existence. But also, you know. For moral support. And an ulterior motive.
“Oh god.” Taehyung is going to throw up. “What if I throw up on Yoongi?”
“Then you throw up on him, duh,” Jungkook offers, cackling.
“No,” Jimin corrects, elbowing their youngest. Why is Jungkook acting like he didn’t lose his shit when they saw RM in concert last year? The audacity. “This is the plan: you are not going to throw up on him. You are going to tell him how much you love him and then he is going to sign the cute thing you brought for him to sign and then hopefully he’ll give you a high five.”
Taehyung is understandably not okay with this. “Sure, let me tell this cute and famous boy that I adore him and that his lyrics comfort my soul and that he makes it easier to get through the hard days. Why don’t I tell him that I tell him that I think he’s a musical genius and a literal god amongst men? Let's tell him that I think his mouth is illegal and that he has the prettiest eyes and that he is my ideal type and all that I ever want in a person. While not throwing up on him. And doing the thing. That’s a great plan.” Taehyung says all of this with a big exhale at the end, even as he takes out a banner from his backpack.
A banner that undeniably has Min Yoongi’s stage name on it.
The bold, purple, and glittery letters that spell out “AGUST D” makes Jimin do a double take. “Did you use my good glitter?”
Silly Jimin. What is Jimin's is also Taehyung’s and what is Taehyung’s is also Jimin’s. Except his love Agust D. That is wholly Taehyung’s.
Jungkook laughs at him. “Who was the one that said they didn’t want to go to this thing again?”
“He is the best rapper and producer in our generation,” Taehyung sighs. “And I’m nothing but a face in a sea of adoring fans. Who am I to not want to be a moth heading towards their flame?”
“Uhm, excuse me,” Jungkook starts, ready to fight for Namjoon’s honor.
Jimin shoves Jungkook aside before they can start. They are here for Taehyung right now. “There’s no harm in trying, especially if he probably hears these types of things on a daily basis,” Jimin shrugs.
“Exactly! Yoongi hears about how great he is every day.” Or at least, that’s what Taehyung hopes for. He hopes Yoongi is showered with compliments every day. He deserves it. “So why embarrass myself?” Taehyung whines. All he wants is to be able to remember today. That’s all. He won’t ask for more. Please.
That’s fine, probably. Jimin has accounted for this. Because if Taehyung won’t say anything, Jimin will.
-
The setup of the event is pretty standard. Yoongi is sitting in front of a table, pen poised to sign whatever is being given to him. Each fan walks up and gets a little bit of time to talk and admire him while he hands out autographs.
Jimin positions himself first in their three-person line up. Taehyung is in the middle so that he can’t run away. Jungkook brings up the rear because he wants to be able to see Taehyung’s reaction to being in the presence of Min Yoongi. His camera is trained on Taehyung, instead of the celebrity that he has paid to see.
The closer they get to the front of the line, the more Taehyung feels like he is ascending. Wow, this would be the perfect time to pick up a handy new skill, like maybe, I don’t know, astral projection or something.
They are five people away and Taehyung can see him. Taehyung! Can! See! Him! This is not a drill. His flight-or-flight response has been activated and he is choosing: to run. Taehyung swivels on his heel, ready to escape, when he slams into Jungkook’s chest.
Right. The formation.
Jungkook grins at him, bunny teeth and all, before grabbing his shoulders and swiveling him back to facing frontwards. “Get your man, hyung.” Well, at least Jungkook is being supportive.
They are two people away now.
Taehyung’s mind is empty. No thoughts, just anxiety over how fucking good Yoongi looks.
Jimin is next.
Which means Taehyung is after him. Okay he can-
Not do this.
He turns around to face Jungkook once more, eyes begging for mercy. Before he can verbalize how much he cannot do this, Taehyung hears Jimin speaking.
“Hi,” Jimin introduces himself nicely and with a bright smile. “My friend is in love with you.” The area is crowded and Jimin has to talk a little bit louder than usual and Taehyung whips his head towards the sound so fast, his neck cracks suspiciously. Taehyung feels like he is going to die.
Yoongi pauses, pen paused on the album that Jimin brought him to sign. “Oh. So am I making this out to your friend?”
“No, you don’t have to, he’s here too.” Jimin is so cheerful. “This is him,” he announces, blatantly pointing to Taehyung. “I just wanted to tell you just in case he doesn’t get the chance to because you make him a nervous mess. His name is Taehyung.”
When Yoongi looks over to who Jimin is pointing at, he is- uh.
Pleasantly surprised. Yes.
Even more so when he gets a real good look at Taehyung- because hey, it’s not everyday when a fan is this attractive.
Taehyung’s face burns when he realizes that Yoongi is looking at him, but doesn’t look away. He feels trapped in the eye contact. His ‘Agust D’ banner is shaking in his hands. With any luck, Taehyung’s soul is on the way to ascension now.
Yoongi only stops looking at how pretty Taehyung looks with a blush on his face once he hears Jimin’s laugh. It is a bright and tinkling and pretty sound. “Your power,” Jimin says. “Amazing.”
Yoongi feels his own blush coming on. “Thank you,” he says, because he has manners.
Jimin has done his civil duty. He has done what he has come here to do. He gets the obligatory high-five and his signed album and moves on so that Taehyung can walk up for his turn. Jimin is a damned good friend, if he says so himself. He waits off to the sidelines, already cooing at his soulmate.
Taehyung is still blushing and he’s taking itty bitty baby steps over to Yoongi that don’t match the length of his legs, but Yoongi looks amused. Jungkook is holding his camera up to his face, already taking pictures.
When Taehyung (finally) reaches the desk, Yoongi greets him with a measured, “Hello, Taehyung,” and a grin. This fan is even prettier up close. Yoongi doesn’t necessarily have a type based on physical features, but if he did have one, then he supposes that this Taehyung would be coming pretty close to it. “I heard you’re in love with me,” he teases. Yoongi doesn’t tease all his fans like this, but seeing the blush on Taehyung’s face deepen gives Yoongi an immense sense of satisfaction.
Taehyung tries very hard to keep his soul inside his body. And he also tries to remember proper speech patterns. It’s a struggle. He can feel himself start to smile. Taehyung is losing control over his face. “Hi, yup, that’s me.” It’s hard getting any words out, but his mom did not raise a liar- and Yoongi heard right, thank you very much.
It’s hard to focus on anything besides Min Yoongi’s face because wow that is a perfect face , but Taehyung figures that he needs to say something, so- he looks at Yoongi’s hands and oh god his hands-
And, “That ring is really pretty.” Okay, well, that left Taehyung’s mouth already so he is going to go with it.
There is a ring on Yoongi’s index finger. It is big and blue and kind of blocky and highlights the luminescence of Yoongi’s skin and the slimness of his fingers and-
Wow Taehyung is really out here, thinking all kinds of things about Min Yoongi’s fingers, right in front of Min Yoongi. Taehyung wants to throw himself into oncoming foot traffic.
But then Yoongi lets out a thoughtful hmm and smiles at him. “Is it?”
Why throw himself into oncoming foot traffic when he could be getting smiled at by Min Yoongi. “Yes, super pretty,” Taehyung blurts for lack of a better word filter. Jungkook cackles from behind him.
Yoongi continues to look thoughtful, calm in the sea of chaos. His eyes start to crinkle and when he says, “Thank you,” he’s smiling. Taehyung is in love. “Do you have anything you want me to sign?” Yoongi looks at the banner that is being crumpled in one hand and a physical copy of ‘D-2’ in Taehyung’s other.
Taehyung hands over neither of those things. Instead, he puts down both items on the desk so that he can freely rummage through his backpack. He pulls out a-
“Is that a rock?” It’s fairly sized. Bigger than a pebble, but still easily able to fit in the palm of his hand.
Taehyung giggles out of sheer nervousness. He has thought about this moment a lot. He’s gonna do it. “I heard you wanted to be a stone in your next life. So I figured I’ll get some practice now with this rock. I’ll bring you to a bunch of beautiful places.” His voice cracks on his ending sentence, but Taehyung did the thing. He did the fucking thing . How he gathered up enough courage to actually implement this, he will never know.
But Yoongi laughs . His shoulders shake with the force of the wholesomeness. Yoongi feels a swoop of affection in his stomach for this fan, grabbing the rock. He signs “Agust D” onto its smooth surface with a flourish and a very sincere, “Thank you, Taehyung ah. For wanting to bring me to beautiful places.”
The term of endearment is not lost on Taehyung.
Yoongi isn’t done yet though. He fiddles with the ring he is wearing, the one Taehyung called pretty. When Yoongi gestures for Taehyung to hold out his hand, Taehyung stupidly moves to comply. He doesn’t know what is going on, but figures that Yoongi is expecting something from him. Probably the exchange of the obligatory high five. Who is he to let down Yoongi’s expectations?
So Taehyung holds out his hand.
Yoongi’s laugh over the appearance of the rock has long since simmered down, but he’s still letting out little chuckles here and there. Taehyung does his best to commit the sound to memory. What Yoongi does next though- Taehyung is sure that he is going to remember this for the rest of his life.
Yoongi drops the ring (!!!) onto the palm of Taehyung’s hand. “A rock for a rock,” he says. He is still smiling. It is beautiful.
-
Jimin has to drag Taehyung away from Yoongi before security does.
But it is definitely not Taehyung’s fault that he is frozen in place, staring at the piece of jewelry in his hand.
That one is all on Yoongi.
-
When it is Jungkook’s turn to talk to Yoongi, Jungkook greets him with, “You are a smooth fucker, you have made Taehyung’s year,” and gushes about the rock/ring exchange. Yoongi lets himself relish in the feeling. But also, he is mildly surprised that this is another friend of Taehyung’s. Isn’t this friend group a little too attractive? What the heck is up with that?
“Anyway, you don’t have to sign anything for me,” Jungkook starts, sliding out an album towards Yoongi. It’s- it’s not his own.
Yoongi is really looking at RM’s ‘mono’ right now. And a phone number. With Jungkook’s name on it. “If you could pass that on to Namjoon hyung though, that would be great.” Jungkook is vibrating with energy.
The deadpan stare that Yoongi is giving Jungkook is real, but Yoongi is mildly impressed nonetheless. “Are you using me to shoot your shot at my best friend?”
Jungkook snorts. “Did you not see me taking pictures of my best friend shooting his shot at you by giving you a rock? Of course I am using you, it’s only fair.”
Okay, well, Yoongi can’t argue with that reasoning.
-
Taehyung can’t hide his shock at the fact that he is holding something that has been worn by Agust D? This ring has been on Yoongi’s beautiful finger??
Taehyung isn’t watching where he is going. It’s now Jimin’s job to guide him back to their car. Min Yoongi is done here so they are too.
“That was fun,” Jungkook quips.
Taehyung doesn’t hear him.
He’s too busy staring at the ring in his hands.
-
Later, in the privacy of his own room, Taehyung continues to marvel at his newfound treasure.
Hesitantly, he tries the ring on.
It fits.
-
It’s three months later and Yoongi has another event.
It’s another fan signing event. The first time was to celebrate the beginning of promotions. This one signifies the end.
This time, it is Taehyung that drags his friends out to see the love of his life. He doesn’t even bother with the pretenses of not going.
Jimin goes again because he thinks it’s rather sweet that Yoongi causes Taehyung to get that dreamy, dazed look in his eyes. Jungkook is going because he heard that Namjoon would be in attendance as well. And he wants to know if Yoongi could be trusted to wingman for him.
It’s not one of Namjoon’s official events, so more than likely, he is at an Agust D event in the name of friendship. Which- same, Jungkook thinks. In front of him, Taehyung is bouncing on his heels with excitement.
They’re in the same formation again. Jimin in the front, Taehyung in the middle, Jungkook in the back.
“Remember us?” Jimin quips, tone cheerful and easygoing once it is his turn and he is within conversing distance.
Yoongi remembers. It is hard to forget people that are that good looking and pleasant. “Oh shit,” he says. He searches momentarily before turning to Namjoon, who is sitting right next to him. “Joon, it’s them.” Yoongi is talking softly, but still loud enough for Jimin to hear. “That’s the friend that’s in love with you,” he says, pointing straight at Jungkook. “The one that gave me his phone number to give to you.” Jungkook’s audacity- Yoongi loves it.
Jungkook notices, of course, the moment Yoongi points at him. His eyes widened almost comically at the realization that his idol (his first and last idol!) was looking at him. He couldn’t hear what Yoongi said, but if the smile on Jimin’s face is anything to go by, it must be embarrassing.
Jimin can't help the pretty giggle that escapes him at the sheer irony of the role reversal. He turns to look straight at Jungkook and says, "Agust D delivered for you!"
Oh. Jungkook has never felt more affection for Min Yoongi in his entire life. He gets an elbow to the chest when he tells Taehyung this.
And Namjoon, to his own credit, does a double take. Because- “Oh.” He was not kidding about how attractive this friend group was. Yoongi can only smirk. “He looks like a bunny.” Namjoon loves bunnies. He doesn’t date fans, which is why he never did anything with the number Yoongi gave him, but- is this why exceptions are made?
“And there’s my other friend who is still in love with you,” Jimin jokes, pointing to Taehyung once more. Jimin can kind of see why Taehyung is so in love with this boy, if the gummy smile that appears on Yoongi’s face is anything to go by. He gets an album signed and another high five and goes on his merry way, waiting at the side once more.
When it is Taehyung’s turn to walk up to Yoongi, Taehyung nearly slams his copy of ‘D-2’ on the table. Okay, so some of the previous nervousness is still here. “Here,” Taehyung blurts out. He fidgets in his spot in line. “I mean- hi?” He didn’t get the album signed last time, so he figures that now is a good time as any. The signed rock sits heavy in his backpack. This counts as a beautiful place too, right? Yoongi is here, so this is immediately a beautiful place, right??
Yoongi is giving him the smile. The one that makes him the best smile angel in the universe. That smile.
Taehyung finds it rather hard to breathe. It’s fine. Not like that’s important or anything.
“Do you still have the ring?” Yoongi asks, simple and kind. And still smiling.
“Of course I do,” Taehyung practically yelps at the vague insinuation that he would do anything besides cherish that piece of jewelry like the treasure that it is. “I will make it a family heirloom.”
“Maybe we don’t have to take it that far,” Yoongi can’t help the laugh that escapes him. He is satisfied with Taehyung’s answer. If Yoongi could make at least one person happy, then that works for him. That is all he needs.
“I am serious,” Taehyung insists, because he is. “You are a national treasure so that makes this ring a national treasure too.”
He is holding up the line. Taehyung can see Jungkook fidgeting, wanting his turn to look at his idol up close.
But in this moment, where it is just him and Yoongi, Taehyung just. Feels a lot of feelings.
Yoongi is still smiling. “Thank you for supporting me.”
It is hard for Taehyung to encompass everything he wants to say. He can only hope that his sincerity is delivered, loud and clear. “Thank you for being who you are,” Taehyung breathes out. His idol, his source of comfort, his favorite person. “Thank you.”

Jungkook does the thing again, where he slides an album across the table. An album that has his number on it.
He slides it towards Yoongi (since it is primarily his event and all) but he is looking right at Namjoon.
If this is not the power move of his life, Jeon Jungkook does not know what it is.
Jungkook can hear Taehyung and Jimin cheering off to the side.
Namjoon chokes.

Taehyung doesn’t wear Yoongi’s ring everyday. It is a national treasure, after all. He saves it for the occasions when life hits a little harder, when the days run long, when people seem extra shitty for no good reason.
He wears it when he needs a reminder that it is okay to not be okay, that he’ll still make it through.
If he could, Taehyung would love to be able to thank Min Yoongi for the love, the positivity, the comfort, and the confidence that he embodies. Yoongi is such a supportive presence in the way that he is kind beyond belief, in the way that he cares about people, and in the way that he is patient and thoughtful and outspoken in the things he believes in. He’s hardworking and relentless and moves through the world like he gives zero fucks but is so, so, so soft still.
A strong role model. Someone who shines, someone who is more brilliant than anyone.
When Taehyung looks at Yoongi, he always thinks about how there is so much good in this world and that the world is lucky to have Yoongi in it.

Taehyung would like to thank Jungkook for showing him that one Agust D feat. RM video four years ago. He saw Min Yoongi once and has never looked away since.
