faith, trust and pixie dust

Summary:

jungkook opens the window with a chuckle, setting down some plants. violets, a succulent, and a cactus. simple things to say the least.

“he really did buy me plants, huh?” he says to himself. “honestly how am i gonna take care of these?”

a little ways away, a small figure perks up, sniffing the air cautiously before smiling dreamily and taking off, shimmering dust left in its wake.

-

stuck in a numbing, never-changing pattern of video games and greasy ramen, jeon jungkook grudgingly goes along with namjoon's wishes for him to raise a plant. little does he know, he'll get more than he had originally bargained for, in the form of glittery wings and pixie dust.

Chapter 1: restless

Chapter Text

fresh out of college, and situated in a new duplex apartment in london, courtesy of his childhood friend kim namjoon (the head ceo of a well known electrical engineering company), jungkook was starting to feel, well… unproductive. he’s been here for a good three weeks, and is no closer in his search for a job than when started. his major in film production wasn’t exactly the sort of thing that would land him a decent gig right away, and he was getting a bit restless.

“what do i do now, hyung? i feel like i’m doing nothing but eating ramen and playing videogames all day.”

namjoon stared at him. “do you seriously only do that?”

“no, but it sure seems like it.”

his friend glanced around the room. “well, you could start by picking up after yourself,” he muttered, grabbing a few soda cans off the floor and tossing them in the bin. he crossed his arms, thinking for a bit. “well, aside from your normal job hunting, why don’t you get a new hobby?”

“like what?”

“i dunno, go take a walk in the fresh air, instead of only taking the tube whenever you get the urge to work out at the gym. get some sunlight?”

jungkook made a face at the thought. “no thanks, i’m good here.”

“honestly, you keep your room so dark, that sometimes i almost don’t think anyone lives here when i come in to check on you.”

“any other ideas?”

namjoon sighed. “well, if you don’t wanna get some sunlight, maybe raise some plants? figure out how to take care of a living being for once.”

“plants aren’t alive.”

namjoon paused. he looked at him for a while, trying to figure out if jungkook was serious or not. “your college degree really did nothing, huh.” he took a deep breath in to recompose himself before speaking again. “anyways, its settled. you’re getting some plants whether you want them or not. and i expect you not to kill them.” he tugged his jacket back on before making his way for the bedroom door.

jungkook reached out to grab his arm. “wait no, plants are a horrible idea! you know i’ll kill them!”

“you’ll do just fine, i’ll get you some cactuses and succulents too. i’m pretty sure you can’t kill those.” he froze for a second as if he was contemplating if jungkook really was able to murder a cactus with his lack of a green thumb. “go to bed early tonight.”

jungkook rolled his eyes, letting go. “sure, whatever.”

namjoon gave him a smile. “i’m just trying to help. plants are soothing. it’ll help your stress.”

“i don’t think anything can help my stress except a job. but go on. you got work tomorrow.”

he chuckled as he opened the door. “i think it’ll work if you give it a chance. see you later, kook.”

jungkook sat in silence after he left. plants? of all the things, how would that help? namjoon and his zen bullshit. the guy bought this place so close to the river and the communal gardens because of all the nature. not really jungkook’s style but he did have to admit the scenery was pretty nice. maybe one day he really should take a walk and film it. it would turn out nice.

but jungkook is still firm on one thing. plants will not help him.

but something (or someone) new might.
