Wei Ying's Last Brain Cell

Summary:

Idea I had while watching The Untamed. (When the kids get to Gusu, they specifically say that Yanli would be known by the 'host'... So of course I was like OOOH! They KNOW each other!!)

(See the end of the work for notes.)

Work Text:

"I wish Yanli-shijie was marrying into the Lan sect, instead of the Jins." Wei Wuxian says, his head twisting on the grass. Lan Wangji stiffened as he continued. "I think she and Lan Xichen would be very good together. They'd be the most polite wonderful couple and have lots of polite perfect babies." Wei Wuxian let the grass fall in a rain from his fingers. The bunnies leaped around chasing each other and the grass as Wei Wuxian laughed.

Lan Wangji tilted his head as he thought. "Xiongzhang would not marry Jiang-guniang." Wei Wuxian turns his head up to look at Lan Wangji in outrage and surprise. "Jiang-guniang is promised to another."

Wei Wuxian scoffs. "Well, yeah. But if she wasn't forced to marry the peacock. They'd be good together." He turns onto his stomach facing Lan Wangji. "Your brother is handsome and kind, Shijie is perfect, I think they'd be good together."

Lan Wangji blinked. Wei Wuxian thought Xichen handsome?

"If I had the choice, I'd marry him over the peacock any day. I mean, you Jades of Lan are way out of my league, but Shijie? I think she could like it here." Wei Wuxian turned over again, finally rolling close enough that the top of his head rested against Lan Wangji's leg. "Don't you think, Lan Zhan?"

Lan Wangji tilted his head at his fellow cultivator again. Wei Wuxian believed he was not good enough for... "Wei Ying is good." He says slowly. "Wei Ying is... in league." Wei Wuxian's blink held honest disbelief and confusion.

"What?"

"Wei Ying," Lan Zhan said with emphasis and clarity. "would be a catch for any Lan Cultivator." He felt the tips of his ears heat and throb. "GusuLan would be honored to accept Wei Ying into the clan." The back of his throat ached with the feeling. But obviously, Wei Wuxian needed to hear it.

"Ah, Lan Zhan. If your uncle could hear you complimenting me." Wei Wuxian said laughing and grinning slyly up at Lan Wangji. "I didn't think you knew how to tease!" He slaped a hand at Lan Wangji's shin and left it resting against the robe."Anyways, if I hadn't gotten into so much trouble at the Gusu Lecture, I probably wouldn't have even crossed Lan Xichen's path." Wei Wuxian continued, chortling.

Lan Wangji wanted to hold that hand. He settled for laying his on top of the thigh Wei Wuxian's head rested against. "Would have." He said quietly.

Wei Wuxian tilted his head back to look at Lan Wangji's face. "I would have crossed his path?" He said. Lan Wangji nodded. "If I wasn't playing games and causing chaos, how would I have earned the attention of the Clan Leader?" Wei Wuxian said with a small smile. "I am but a humble disciple of the Jiang Sect." Lan Wangji snorted at the word humble.

"I would have introduced you." Lan Wangji said, his hand crept towards Wei Wuxian's head with little control from the rest of his body. "Would have shown you the Jingshi." He took a deep breath, steeling himself to get the last words out. "Would have asked you to stay."

Wei Wuxian stared at him. His face was utterly blank, as he took in Lan Wangji's words. Lan Wangji could almost see the amount of energy it was taking for Wei Wuxian to calculate these words into the exchange of their time together. Over and over again, adding up to what Lan Wangji hoped was the idea he'd been trying to impart.

"You. Would have introduced me to your brother?" Wei Wuxian said slowly. "You would have taken me to your home and asked me to stay?" He sat up abruptly, twisting onto his knees. Lan Wangji, sitting in lotus position, calmly looked up at him. "Lan Zhan." He said breathlessly, still trying to understand. Lan Wangji slowly raised his traitorous, misbehaving hand to Wei Wuxian's face and settled it on his cheek.

Wei Wuxian's eyes started to water. He looked at Lan Wangji with such dawning delight, the size of his smile forced the water to shed into tears. "Lan Zhan!" He said gruffly. Sweetly.

"Wei Ying." Lan Wangji repeated in the same voice. Wei Wuxian pounced.

Moments ago, in two different parts of the Cultivation world, both Jiang Yanli and Lan Xichen sneezed.

Notes:

Why yes, I did tell myself I wasn't going to write this fandom (Until after I had finished the Special Edition and both Movies). Did I listen? No. No I did not. Enjoy this short, short, fluff.
