Green with Envy
Chapter One : Ain't That Fine?
Despite sharing similar goals, ambitions, and ideals, all men are not created equal. Those words remained in the consciousness of one male. Midoriya Izuku. Ever since childhood, this guy would cite those words internally and he’ll always come out with a bitter aftertaste. Why? Well, because that quote is just plain…wrong. It was wrong on a moral standpoint. Ethical standpoint. Probably a logical one, too. You’d think after all the hardships mankind has faced, there would be some sort of change. In actually, there was change. A rather big one. One that would give people a chance to start life anew. It was when a baby boy was born and he shone like a star. Superpowers were the change.
When said powers started to become ingrained into the average Joe, people started to panic. They would antagonize these extraordinary people. Call them freaks. Bar them from interacting with ‘normal’ folk. Assault them for simply existing. Having a cool superpower meant nothing when you were in the minority. These altercations soon grew into all out battles, which those in turn led up to war. A long, grueling experience that claimed the lives of several hundred million. It was awful. Both sides could agree to that. So, without any real fanfare, the war came to an abrupt stop. Bad vibes between both groups hung in the air. It lasted all the way to modern times. People with power got more tired with their weaker brethren and gave their powers a title. One that defines the identity and personality of the wielder. ‘Quirks’ were met with a neutral shrug, but that title still holds up.
Over the years, ‘quirks’ became a common trait for an every man. People got accustomed to them. Society begun to build around them. Laws were passed to restrict the use of them. Only a few could access these tools and it was under strict government watch. Still is today. Everyone got a hang of having a quirk…well, not everyone. The ones without power, of whom started the whole debacle, were either left out or turned on. Their numbers shrunk over the last couple of decades. Now, the ‘quirkless’ are the minority. They were the freaks that stood out. They are not part of every man, Izuku thought bitterly. He was not an ‘every man’.
O
Midoriya’s daily routine could be considered ‘odd’ to most people. After rising and shining, he would take care of personal business, head to the living room, turn on the t.v. to local news, break out his notebook and start jotting. His pen scribbled across the pages as Izuku begun his morning analysis. Soft muttering could be heard as the guy observed the events being televised.
It was a simple robbery with the perpetrators already in handcuffs. The point of interest was already gone. So, why was Izuku whispering like a madman? Well, the two criminals were mutant-type with odd resistance kinetic energy. One looked liked a bird while bared a resemblance to a rhino. It was quite the sight. Such a shame they would misuse their abilities for crime. The boy in green was finished the last lines of notes and got up. He did some stretches. Packed his notebooks in a yellow satchel. Exited his apartment…and booked it!
