A Piggyback Ride

Summary:

Seo Woo Jin gives Cha Eun Jae a piggyback ride, but this time it’s not because she passed out.

Work Text:

Eun Jae couldn’t wait another day to get back to Doldam. While this time her stay at Godae Hospital was shorter by five days, she didn’t want to waste another unnecessary night in her hotel room when she could spend it at Woo Jin’s place instead. So even if she was scheduled to leave Seoul tomorrow morning, she forced herself to gulp up a cup of black coffee so she could have the energy to take a long drive back tonight.

“Dr. Cha! I didn’t expect you to be back until tomorrow.” Manager Jang who was already on his way home, greeted her at the hospital lobby. “Are you here for Dr. Seo? I believe he’s still in the operation room.” He gave her a knowing look.

“Thank you. I’ll be waiting for him in the staff room. Have a good night!” Eun Jae smiled back.

The staff room was empty when she entered. She noticed that Ah Reum’s desk was cleared up and she internally sighed in relief. As much as she loved the bubbly ER doctor, she had no energy to keep up with the stories she’d fill her in while she was away. All she wanted to do after a long drive was to crash on bed, preferably snuggled up in a certain someone’s arms.

She walked towards Woo Jin’s desk and smiled to herself silly when she found his (or hers, rather) favorite wool jacket draped on the chair. She removed her coat to replace it with his jacket sniffing his scent which already made her feel like she was home. She began to tidied up his desk-- books left open, a sandwich half-eaten, and tons of piled paper. It seemed that Woo Jin was called in for an emergency operation. She realized too that she missed the thrill of being in Doldam hospital and she was excited to get to work tomorrow, something she never felt when she was at Godae. In the midst of cleaning up his desk, Eun Jae found a polaroid picture of them that Woo Jin taped beside his calendar along with a note of her return. She giggled, seems like she wasn’t the only one missing him too.

She then heard footsteps along the hallway and she immediately dived into the couch, and shut her eyes pretending to be fast asleep. She didn’t have to take a peek to know that it was Woo Jin who entered the room. She was all familiar with his footsteps and the way her heart was racing confirmed that he was already kneeling in front of her.

“Welcome home, my love.” She felt Woo Jin kiss her forehead.

“Mhm.” She faked a mumble in her sleep.

Of course, she also couldn’t let this opportunity pass by him baby-ing her. She heard him scuffle around and enter the locker room to change.

“Eun Jae-ah,” She felt him caress her shoulders “It’s time to go home baby.”

“Carry me.” She mumbled sleepily again, pushing her luck.

Woo Jin ended up carrying her on his back. She smiled to herself, Woo Jin wasn’t one to do PDA and they had always managed to keep things between them professional at work. But now it was late at night and most of the staff had gone home, so he probably didn’t mind doing this for her.

“Aww, Dr. Seo and Dr. Cha looks so cute.”

“I didn’t know Dr. Cha already came back tonight.”

“Dr. Seo really loves Dr. Cha doesn’t he? He looked exhausted from the surgery earlier and now he’s happily smiling  bringing his girl home.”

Eun Jae couldn’t help but feel her cheeks heat up upon hearing the nurses not-so-subtly gossip about them. She buried her head into Woo Jin’s shoulder. It was a good thing she was pretending to be asleep.

“I know you’re awake.” Woo Jin said once they stepped out of Doldam hospital.

“And? You’re still not putting me down?” Eun Jae countered.

“Who said I wanted to let you go?” Woo Jin smirked.
“Then, I’m staying up here longer.” Eun Jae said happily clutching into Woo Jin tighter.

Not wanting for the night to end, Woo Jin walked to the lake with Eun Jae on his back. The night sky twinkled bright today, and the light of the full moon reflected on the waters. They stayed like that for a moment longer, appreciating the calm and the presence of each other.  No words were needed to be exchanged as they both knew how the other felt. Because with Woo Jin carrying her, she knew he had and always will take care of her. And with Eun Jae on his back, he knew that she’s here to stay no matter what.
