“Oh my God, don’t cry,” Santos blurted. “It’s not that ugly.”
Letting out a shaky laugh, he wiped his eyes as he faced her.
“It’s not the cake.”
“Then what?”
“No one’s ever… done anything for my birthday before,” Whitaker eventually said.

Summary
Santos had survived chaotic shifts, impossible patients, and the dynamic nature of working in The Pitt - but nothing seemed to defeat her quite like charting.
Drowning in an endless sea of messy notes and half-finished entries, she's convinced she can muscle through it alone, hiding the real reason she struggled behind her usual brash confidence and unapproachable demeanour.
Well good thing she has a Huckleberry to help her out.

"I think it's worse," he says, quiet, refusing to back down entirely from the inferno. "I think it's worse for you, yeah. I don't think this is good for you, Santos. And it's getting worse."
