Work Text:
Vili was sitting in the living room, on the lovely black couch, with his phone in his hand. The food in the kitchen long forgotten and cold by now, the Christmas tree in the living room corner shining bright with its lights. His dog was laying on the edge of the couch, idly staring at her owner with half lidded eyes. He stares at his phone screen. No one had texted him. Not a single person of the 20 or so people he had invited over, not a single soul informing him they weren’t gonna show up. He lets out a groan as his back hits the couch, his head resting on the back of the couch. He then brings his phone closer to his face, tapping on the keyboard and the little sounds it made were all that could be heard in the silence. Vili didn’t even have the radio on anymore. He finishes tapping on his phone screen, and before hitting ‘send’, he goes over the group text. ‘So you all seriously ditched me like this?’’ was written on his screen. He hit the ‘send’ button, and watched as people one by one read the message and no one replied. He lets out a defeated sigh. This was useless. Why did he bother so much? He had prepared a divine meal, with salmon, ham, all the goods. And the dessert side wasn’t neglected either, there were so many cakes and chocolates in bowls. Just as he is about to start crying, he hears his doorbell ring. Oh? Who’d be here at almost midnight? Vili gets up from the couch, discarding his phone on the table in the living room before approaching the front door. He peeks through the door eye and is surprised to see one of the people he had invited over, standing there behind the door. Vili makes to open the door, with clear surprise on his face as he sees the wide smile of the man there.
‘’Vili, my man! I’m so sorry I’m late, had some hero duties to take care of on the way here!’’ the man spoke. It was evident he had been in hero duty, his hair was unkempt, his hoodie partially ripped to shreds and he was on the slimmer side today. Not quite the fit man he normally was, just somewhere in between of his two forms.
‘’Taishiro! It’s totally fine, it’s not like the party’s going wild over here right now. But come in, come in!’’ Vili said, making way for his only guest. Taishiro leaves his shoes at the hallway, and Vili leads him over to the living room and to the couch, sitting down. Before Taishiro can even ask, Vili responds.
‘’Nobody else came.’’ he muttered. ‘’Nor let me know they weren’t coming.’’
Taishiro looks at Vili, seeing the sadness clear in the dark haired man’s eyes.
‘’Well hey! More food for us, because I’m starving.’’ Taishiro said. Vili rested his head on the backrest of the couch, idly staring at the kitchen door.
‘’It’s probably cold by now, but make yourself at home. You can eat all you want. I’m really not that hungry right now.’’ Vili said.
‘’Have you eaten anything at all today?’’ Taishiro asked. Vili didn’t respond at first, avoiding eye contact. The frown on Taishiro’s face is obvious.
‘’Vili… you need to eat. At least a little bit.’’ he said. Vili still avoided eye contact, before his stomach rumbled.
‘’See? Your stomach agrees.’’ Taishiro noted.
‘’Fiiiiine, but only because it’s you who’s asking me to.’’ Vili replied. ‘’I’ll feel sick to my stomach, but anything to make you happy.’’ he added.
Vili led the way to the kitchen where the food was sitting on the counters. He took to reheating everything that needed to be heated up. Taishiro stood at the doorway, looking at Vili work.
‘’You need any help?’’ he then asked.
‘’Oh, yeah! If you could take that dish over there and bring it over to the oven?’’ Vili asked.
‘’Of course.’’ Taishiro replied. He walked into the kitchen, which wasn’t the most spacious thing in the world, as it could barely fit two people at the same time. Taishiro helped around with the reheating process a lot, wanting to make sure Vili didn’t overwork himself alone. As the meal is once more warm, the two pick up plates and dig around for what they wanted to eat. They make their way back to the living room, which was way more spacious and comfortable to have meals in. Taishiro takes the first bite, his expression lighting up at the taste.
‘’Oh man, I knew you were a good baker, but that you’re good in the kitchen overall? Damn! Did you really make everything from a scratch? All by yourself?’’ he asked. Vili took a small bite of the salmon on his plate, before nodding.
‘’Yeah, I wanted to make a traditional Finnish Christmas meal for everyone to experience since I miss spending time with the family over there.’’ he replied.
‘’That must’ve been a lot of work, oh man, this is seriously so good!’’ the blonde man noted. Vili smiled a little, before frowning. He had been right about feeling sick for eating, but to feel sick this soon into having a meal? This was new. He thought it must’ve just been because he hadn’t eaten all day, so he kept taking small bites of his meal. And eventually his plate was empty, the sick feeling dwelling in his stomach all the while he took the dishes to the kitchen to be cleaned later on.
He then makes his way back to the living room, to join Taishiro in watching some late night game show on the television. Before long he feels shivers down his spine and he feels cold. Of course. He scrambles around the couch for his blanket, only to find it’s behind Taishiro.
‘’Could you pass the blanket behind you? This apartment gets incredibly cold in the winter.’’ Vili asked. Taishiro grabs the blanket, but before he passes it on, he gets an idea. He wraps the blanket around his shoulders, lifting one end up and inviting Vili over, who just stares at the man with confusion on his face.
‘’Being next to another body is the best way to keep warm in the cold.’’ Taishiro said. Vili makes a small ‘oh’ sound and awkwardly scrambles over, leaning into Taishiro’s shoulder as the man wraps the blanket over Vili’s shoulders as well. While doing so he also wraps his arm around Vili’s shoulder, keeping him close. Needless to say the dark haired man felt a little bit of heat on his face as he rested his head on Taishiro’s shoulder. This felt nice, and comforting after such a letdown of a day. They watched the game show for some time, before Taishiro pulled his arm back, and got up.
‘’Need to use the bathroom.’’ he noted.
‘’Oh, sure. It’s the second door on the right.’’ Vili replied, hogging the whole blanket to himself now, keeping on watching the television. As Taishiro returned, Vili let him back under the blanket and they huddled close.
Much, much later as the first yawn escaped Vili’s lips, he got an idea he wanted to try out. He turns his head against Taishiro’s shoulder, so that he is facing the man.
‘’Hey, uh, it’s getting pretty late. Would you, like, well, like to stay the night?’’ Vili asked. Taishiro smiled at him.
‘’I’d love to.’’ he said.
‘’Sweet, uh, you can have my bed. I’ll sleep on the couch.’’ Vili said, lifting his head from the shoulder. Taishiro tapped his chin for a moment.
‘’How big is your bed? King size?’’ he asked. Vili nodded.
‘’Then there shouldn’t be a problem with both sleeping in the bed. Just, put a barrier of pillows in between if you’re scared of contact.’’ Taishiro said. Vili pondered for a moment before nodding.
‘’Uh, sure. You think you could carry these pillows there?’’ he asked, while grabbing a couple more pillows from the couch and the blanket. He got up, and began walking to the bedroom with Taishiro following him. Vili then made his way out of the bedroom, to brush his teeth real quick. When he came back, Taishiro was standing in the doorway to the bedroom. He stopped Vili on his tracks past him, who made a puzzled face at the blonde man. Taishiro pointed up, and Vili’s eyes followed up. Oh. It was a mistletoe, hung up at the doorframe. Vili looks at Taishiro, with a small smile on his face.
‘’I…. well, I heard they do this in the America’s for the holidays.’’ Taishiro said.
‘’Really, Tai?’’ Vili asked, with a chuckle.
‘’Really.’’ Taishiro replied.
‘’Okay, but only because you’re the only one here.’’ Vili noted, leaning into Taishiro and getting on his tippy toes to reach the man’s height. He felt the hot breath against his lips, and he instinctively bit down on his lip.
‘’Okay.’’ Vili muttered, and closed the gap between the two. Both their soft lips connected, in a warm, yet sloppy kiss. It wasn’t a quick one like these usually were, no, it was filled with love and need. As they pulled apart, their foreheads resting against each others. Taishiro brought his hand to Vili’s chin, and cheek, softly caressing. Vili chuckled a little.
‘’You mind if I steal another one?’’ Taishiro asked, his voice soft and low.
‘’Not at all, Tai, not at all.’’ Vili replied. And thus, their lips connected once more into a soft kiss. Upon pulling apart, their foreheads rested against each other again and a small yawn escaped Vili’s lips.
‘’You wanna lay down and maybe cuddle?’’ Taishiro asked. Vili nodded the best he could.
‘’I’d love that.’’ he said, and so Taishiro led him to the bed and they climbed in, crawling close to each other and snuggling close. Taishiro laid on his back, and Vili on his side next to him. Taishiro’s arm came to wrap around Vili, and Vili’s arm rested on top of Taishiro’s chest, tracing small circles around with his finger. His head was resting against Tai’s shoulder, and Tai buried his face into the poof of Vili’s hair.
‘’Hey Vili. Can I tell ya something?’’ Taishiro asked suddenly.
‘’I think I already know what you’re gonna say, but do go ahead.’’ Vili noted.
‘’I love you. Have loved for a long time.’’ the blonde man whispered. Vili turns his head so he’s facing Taishiro. He smiles with fondness in his eyes.
‘’I’m happy to tell you that the feeling has been mutual for a while.’’ Vili whispered. Taishiro smiled a little.
‘’You have no idea how happy that makes me.’’ he said, dipping down to kiss Vili for the third time.
‘’And you have no idea how happy it made me to have you come over.’’ Vili noted after the kiss. Tai gave his signature grin and Vili chuckled. This was the best gift Vili could’ve asked for this holiday season, and he was gonna cherish it for years.
