Work Text:
Naples Public High School has been able to maintain a pretty solid reputation through the years. The students there didn’t have that many big achievements or the highest exam scores in the country, but they did manage to pass all of their classes each year. The principal, who has held the position for over 20 years, managed to run the school smoothly and effectively. There wasn’t any lasting conflict to speak of, problems were usually resolved instanously. Yes, some people might want to call it extremely boring, but many of those attending it believed that to be one of its strongest attributes. It had an aura of stability. Provided a familiar routine you could stick to. It made one feel as if the tiring grind of school work was supposed to be comforting. And for the longest time, it kind of was.
However, one student by the name of Giorno Giovianna somehow found a way to single handedly throw all of that out the window.
He immediately stood out from the crowd due to his ridiculous way of dressing. He could never just show up to class in a plain t-shirt or a hoodie, like you would expect from your average fifteen year old. Instead, he favoured much more flamboyant outfits that made most members of the faculty wince at their mere sight. One of his favorite get-ups seemed to be a deep blue suit with a heart shaped boob window and little ladybug adornments. Many times teachers had reprimanded the boy for inappropriate and indecent clothing, but that never stopped him in any way. Somehow he never got in trouble, even though he for sure kept going against the established dress code.
And not to mention his hair! It almost looked like Giorno had three donuts stuck to his forehead at all times. The blonde’s locks appeared to be really high maintenance, but when asked about how his hair was able to defy the laws of gravity like that, the boy would just shrug. He kept his secrets like that.
After having just moved to a new neighbourhood for financial reasons, Olive was rather wary of flashy bastards like this Giovanna person. In her experience people who dressed like this were exactly the type to seek attention by bringing others down. But to her surprise, the new classmate was actually incredibly kind and honest. He was less of a pretentious douchebag type and more of a friendly, eccentric golden child. The judgements of others didn't seem to hinder his ability to express himself, which Olive found rather admirable. Not only that, he was also quite intelligent, always sprinkling bizzare snippets of knowledge into the conversations he was a part of. He didn't share a lot about himself, but was always willing to help out if anyone was struggling. The girl was able to experience this first hand, as Giorno volunteered to show her around the city while she was still adjusting to her new home. He’d always share his science notes too.
Olive wasn’t sure if she was allowed to call him a friend, but he was not merely an acquaintance either. She had other people in school she talked more to, most importantly her best friend Carmelo, but Giorno was still someone she cared for. And she knew she wasn't the only one who felt that way. Despite not being a part of any of the usual cliques high schoolers tend to form, the boy was relatively well liked by her classmates. He had a certain charm about him, not unlike the charisma of a born leader. Him being a truly reliable individual also helped with that.
So naturally, his disappearance caused a bit of worry. When Olive saw that Giorno's chair was empty that one fateful day, she immediately realised something was off. Sure, normally you wouldn't bat an eye at a person missing a single day of school. You'd probably assume that the kid skipped or something. But the boy in question had perfect attendance. Maybe she was being paranoid, but Olive couldn't shake the feeling that Giorno might be in trouble. It kept bothering her for the remainder of the day, looming in the background even though she tried to focus on other things.
So after classes ended, she decided to visit the blonde in his dorm. He’d need to catch up with the material and she was more than willing to finally return the favour and share her notes. But when the girl knocked at the door of the small apartment, no one came to answer her. She even called the name of its tenant and was met with silence. Pulling at the door handle didn't work either. Her concerns grew more and more, as she would come back day after day and repeat this little ritual. Some of her friends teased her about it, still the anxiety was stuck at the back of her mind at most times. With each day the uneasiness felt more justified and thus was harder to get rid of. Still, Olive hoped she was just making things up as always.
-
Giorno Giovanna came back after a week or so. And at first glance, it didn't seem like anything of note happened. The only noticeable change was that the boy now brought a nice Kerropi pencil case to school. He didn't mention what he had been doing during that time at all, even to the teachers.
That's when for the first time in years, weird things started happening in Naples Public High School. It was exciting and terrifying at the same time. That’s just the thing when it comes to new things - you never know what to expect.
One of them was Olive’s new classmate - Narancia Ghirga. When the teacher first introduced him, Olive’s focus was almost entirely on what the boy was wearing. It was truly a lot to take in for a first impression. Just like Giorno, his outfit more resembled something you’d see on a runway of a fashion show than schoolwear. He had a tight tank top on along with a ridiculous orange skirt, ripped leggings and a bandana tangled in his messy hair. It was hard to believe anyone would allow him to leave the house with that chaotic mess on, let alone agree to him going to school like that. At the very least he wasn’t showing as much skin as Giorno.
And it was immediately apparent that this boy’s connection to the blonde wasn’t superficial. After quickly stating his name and saying some basic statements about how excited he was to get to know everyone, Narancia took his things and plopped down on a seat next to Giovanna. Now, though Giorno was well liked by people in his grade, he always sat alone, so the smile that appeared on his face upon Ghirga’s arrival next to him was definitely something of note. Not only that, but a couple of minutes into the lesson both of them laughed out loud at something no one else seemed to understand. Truly peculiar.
The following weeks whenever Olive saw Giorno, Narancia was hovering somewhere near him. He was rather loud and very affectionate with Giorno, in a way the blonde has never allowed anyone before. It was also a little strange that apparently the boy was actually 17, two years older than everyone in her grade, but she didn’t want to judge him on that. He could have been held back a few times, but that really wasn’t something that could make Olive dislike him. He just had this incredible energy and his quirks were all sort of likeable. She didn't really mind the boy’s company at all, it was just a little unnerving that she knew almost nothing about him and yet he seemed so strangely important to the mystery of her classmate’s disappearance.
Olive hadn’t realised it at that moment, but she was already determined to figure out what exactly happened. Maybe it was out of worry, maybe it was out of genuine curiosity. Either way, it was really hard to ignore all the strange things that started happening around Giorno.
-
At some point, strange people had started appearing around Olive’s highschool. From their locations on random benches and in regular looking cars one might deduce that they were trying not to be noticed, but their way of dress suggested otherwise. ( Did this part of Naples just naturally attract the biggest fashion disasters in all of Italy? ) They seemed to be surveying the entrance at all times, which naturally had everyone worried. Most parents decided to drive their children to and from school and the ones who didn’t have that option advised the students to always walk in larger groups. Some kids stopped going to class all together, which might have been an overreaction, but Olive had no right to judge either way. The principal had informed the police of what was happening, but nothing came of it. The general consensus among the students was that the cops were paid off to look the other way.
The atmosphere was all around tense and no one could focus on their work anymore. Well, almost no one. Magically, Giorno and Narancia were the only ones completely unaffected by this disturbance, which was suspicious as all hell. Whenever someone mentioned the situation around them, Giorno would just smile and explain it’s probably nothing while Narancia went off on a tangent about airplanes or whatever else (“..and that’s how WW2 fighter jet pilots literally invented gremlins. Anyway, what were you talking about?”).
Olive didn’t know what to make of this. She couldn’t imagine her classmate being involved with this type of shady people. Giorno just didn’t seem like a person who could dip to that level. From what she saw of Narancia, she wouldn’t pin her classmate as some sort of criminal either. Maybe they were just trying to calm the nerves of those around them. It still didn’t sit right with her, but it was a more reasonable explanation.
“How come you’re not scared?” She asked Giorno one day during their lunch break. They ate together more often recently. Olive felt kind of weird about the fact that it was mostly due to her trying to figure out what was going on. But then again, it was always easier to interact with people when one had a reason other than “I just want to”.
“What would I be scared of?” Giorno answered, not even looking up from the orange he was peeling. Narancia sat next to him, laying his head on one of the other boy’s shoulders. He was listening to some music on his headphones and seemed to be content with not joining in on their conversation.
“I don’t know, just… Everyone else is worried these guys hanging around might want to kidnap one of us. You don’t think that’s a possibility?”
He looked straight into her eyes, eyebrows furrowed. “Does it really bother you that much?”
“Y-Yeah…” She couldn’t really think of a more eloquent response. Not while her mind was screaming thoughts she clearly couldn’t voice right this moment, such as “OBVIOUSLY I’M WORRIED, THIS IS A THREAT TO OUR SAFETY AND EVEN THE POLICE ARE FAILING US, WHAT EVEN IS UP WITH YOU?”.
“Ok. They’ll stop their surveillance from now on.” He said and Olive couldn’t understand how he could deliver such a confusing statement so matter-of-factly. It felt like an order more than anything else.
“I’m sorry this has been such an issue to you.” He added and handed Narancia a piece of the fruit he’d been working on. “Would you like one too?”
Olive was baffled. She ate a slice of the orange without saying anything and didn’t even try to resume talking for the rest of their lunch. Was this why Giorno was so sure of his safety? Because he thought he had the power to stop the strange men from watching the school?
And the strangest thing was, he totally had that power. The next day all suspicious vehicles disappeared. There were no more colourfully dressed creeps sipping coffee in nearby cafes. And Olive was the only one who knew why all their activity ceased. It was all connected to this bright, kind, mysterious 15 year old. And what the hell was she supposed to do with that information? No one would ever believe her. She had no proof of the interaction during lunch actually happening. Her only real options were to try to distance herself from Giorno as much as possible in the event of his connection being a potential danger to her or keep digging for information. Too bad she was already too invested to choose the first one.
-
A lot of people cried at school. She told herself it wasn't uncommon to hear quiet sobs in the hallways of the building. At least it wasn’t because of an insignificant reason this time. Still, no matter how many excuses her brain came up with, she felt so ashamed for breaking down in a public space in this way.
Suddenly, Olive heard someone approaching, their steps echoing in the empty school hall. She tried drying her tears with the sleeve of her shirt, but they just kept on coming.
“Olive?” She heard a voice she knew well calling out to her. Silently, she wished her classmate could just go away and pretend he didn’t see any of this. It would be so much easier like that.
“What happened?” Giorno sat down next to her on the floor. Olive couldn’t really pull herself together enough to a point where she could answer. She tried really hard to stop her sobs, but her body refused to calm down. Attempts at silencing herself just resulted in weird hiccup noises.
“You don’t have to talk to me. I just thought it might make you feel better... I can always leave.” She finally turned to see Giorno had scurried closer to her. There wasn’t any disgust upon seeing her in such a miserable state, even though the vile part of her conscious insisted that’d be the right way to react. Instead, she saw genuine concern painted on the boy’s features. Strangely, that allowed her mind to slow down a bit. Even though just a second ago him going away was all she wanted, at that moment his presence put her at ease.
In one motion, she swooped in to hug the blonde boy. It was sudden, but she felt like that’s the only thing that could really help her. His muscles tensed up for a second, but he wasted no time in putting his arms around her after that. Despite all the suspicions and secrecy, Olive couldn’t help but think of Giorno as someone comforting. She didn’t know how long she allowed herself to cry on his shoulder, but eventually she withdrew from the embrace.
“I’m so sorry… I probably ruined your suit.” She apologized while catching her breath in between her sobs.
“That’s ok.” Giorno offered her another smile. “I have a closet full of these.”
She let out a weak laugh. Of course he did. “I think... I want to talk now.”
“I’m listening.” Giorno responded. He was patient. Olive took a deep breath, preparing herself.
“It’s… It’s about my dad.” She started, looking away from the blonde. It’d be easier to explain without having to stare him in the eyes. “You know I had to move to Naples because of money problems. He… got involved with some really shady businessmen and I don’t know the exact details, but now they expect our family to send over regular payments. This month they want more than usual and we don’t know if we’ll be able to deal with that.”
Giorno nodded and frowned, seemingly thinking over what he's just heard.
“Please don’t feel like you need to find a way to help!” Olive added quickly “There’s nothing you can do about it.”
“I think I can.” There was something in his eyes that she had never seen before. An intense flicker of determination. She didn’t like it at all. “What’s your father’s name?”
“M-Marco…” She immediately regretted giving that information away. The sudden change in Giorno surely meant trouble.
Before she even had to say anything else, the boy stood up. “Olive, I promise you, your family won’t have to worry about this problem anymore.” And there it was again. The way Giorno made the statement a command, like someone would start working on making it happen the moment the words left his lips. It was so unnerving.
Even though she should have expected it, Olive was still in a state of shock when her father announced his debts had been paid off by a “kind soul” the very next day. They all went out for dinner to celebrate, but the girl couldn’t help the fear that’s been growing inside her heart. She didn’t know how to feel about the two conflicting ideas of Giorno in her mind. She still trusted her classmate, the one who always helped her out and who bought ice cream for random boys on the street to make them feel better. But there was a new side to him, one that seemed sinister and strangely powerful. A few other things happened around Giorno, a bully ended up in a hospital after being seen demanding money from younger students, but none of the incidents could affect her like this one. She had to do something, talk to someone. Yet there was no one who witnessed the things she did, no one who could get what she meant. Why couldn’t she just give this up when she had the chance?
-
She was walking home with Carmelo. He lived only a couple of blocks away, so heading back with him has just become a part of her routine at this point. Normally she'd be happy to listen to the boys excited rambling, but her mind was plagued with concerns about her strangest classmate and couldn't focus on what he was saying. It might have been something about a new video game console coming out soon. She wasn’t sure.
“Carmelo, do you think that Giorno has been acting a little weird ever since he came back from his vacation?” Olive blurted out suddenly.
Her best friend raised his eyebrows at her. There was something weird about his expression, but it was possible he was just upset about being interrupted in the middle of a passionate rant “W-What do you mean?”
“It’s just that…” She paused, trying very hard to figure out exactly what she wanted to say “He never missed a single day of school before that week. Do you really think he would just disappear with no explanation out of his own free will? And then right after he comes back strange things start happening and out of nowhere he has all this power - I mentioned my father’s debts to him and the very next day all of them were paid off. That’s something that you can just brush off! We’ve been struggling with this for years and then he just comes along and magically deals with them like it’s nothing!”
She stared at the pavement as the pair walked in silence for a while. “What are you implying?” The boy questioned.
“I think Giorno’s family might have gotten involved with the mafia. If you think about it-”
“You’re overreacting.” Carmelo quickly cut her off and guilt immediately showed itself on his face. He didn’t try to apologize or take back his words though.
She looked up at him and once again felt like there was something he wasn’t telling her. It was so frustrating when something was clearly happening and yet no one took her seriously.
She sighed. “Maybe you’re right.” And they resumed their usual banter.
It was disappointing she couldn’t even confide in her friend before deciding to go through with her plan.
-
That’s it. Today was going to be the day Olive finally confronted Giorno about her suspicions. The rational part of her brain was telling her that this was a very bad idea. But she just had to say something or her head would explode. She couldn’t take the thoughts at the very back part of head nagging her anymore. Even if the boy brushed her off, she would at the very least be able to sleep at night knowing she tried to find out the truth about everything.
“Giorno, can I walk home with you for a bit?” It was a simple request, yet her heart must have sped up upon uttering it.
“Sure, we just have to wait for Narancia a bit.”
“No, I-” she hesitated “I really need to speak to you about something and it’s best if we’re alone”
The boy frowned. “Well, me and Narancia always come back home together. If this is really important, then maybe you can come over and we’ll talk about it there?”
This was probably a bad idea. All the signs pointed to this being a bad idea. If her hunches were correct, she could very well be disposed of by the end of the day and her friendship with the blonde boy wouldn’t matter at all.
“Sure.” She agreed before her senses could get the better of her. She had to do this, no backing down.
-
“Isn’t your dorm the other way?”
“It is, but I don’t live there anymore.” He said, like it was the most obvious piece of information in the world. It wasn’t.
“I… I didn’t know that.” Her voice was barely above a whisper. It felt so strained and uncomfortable, but she tried her best to not let it show “When did you move?”
“Not long after my short vacation.” He shrugged.
“It’s really quite the upgrade, huh?” Narancia said, joining the conversation. “Your room in that ratty building must have been really small. But now you live in a bigass mansion! And we even have a huuuge yard where we can have shoot outs whenever we want. How cool is that?” He waved his hands around while talking. Under normal circumstances Olive would find it kind of endearing.
“So you and Narancia live in the same house?” She raised her eyebrows, choosing to ignore the comment about shooting, and the boys just nodded. “Are you family?”
“Yes.” Giorno’s response made Narancia smile the brightest smile she might have seen in her entire life. What could that even mean? Ugh, why was all of this so confusing?
They walked like that for a while, Narancia keeping the conversation going (“Do you think Bruno is cooking dinner today or are we going to eat take-out?”) while Olive tried to gauge something from Giorno’s impression. His smile didn’t change at all since the day she met him, but after all that’s happened it started looking kind of… wrong. She desperately wished to go back to where she didn’t see anything more under the kind expression.
The distance to Giorno’s new home from the school was longer than Olive expected. They had to walk across half the town and even climb up a hill. The moment the girl was finally able to catch a glimpse of the house, she felt her breath leaving her. It was truly a sight to behold. Apparently, her two classmates have been living in an enormous mansion with a ridiculously beautiful view all this time and she didn’t even know.
Olive shifted back to reality the moment the trio reached the gate. It was guarded by serious-looking men in fancy suits and she was reminded of why she even came here. Her companions weren’t phased by the weapons held in the guards’ hands with Narancia even shooting finger guns at them. No one questioned her why she decided to visit, but she still felt incredibly out of place.
Narancia wasn’t lying about the size of the yard. Just like everything on this property, it was definitely something. She didn't have enough experience to say if it really was the right size for a shoot out, but she could very well imagine all kinds of fancy, rich people events being hosted there. Multiple trimmed hedges could be seen in different parts of the garden. It was clear they were supposed to resemble some sort of figure, but the bullet holes and other injuries the poor plants had to endure made the shapes unrecognizable. One looked like it was on the verge of falling apart, its trunk barely held together by a shiny ribbon. It very well might have been slashed in half at some point. The disheveled state of the bushes did not subtract from the expensive atmosphere of the residence though. If anyone had any issues with it, the owners could just call it high art.
The three kids eventually made their way to the entrance and Olive could feel her grip on the school bag in her hands tightening.
“Home, sweet home” Narancia muttered and opened the door for both of them. He made a show of how gentleman-y he was being and even did a little bow.
Olive took the sight before her in. It looked almost exactly like she imagined it to, based solely on the outside appearance of the house alone. She was pretty sure she saw this exact interior in a cheap mafia flick before. High ceiling, hardwood floor, chandeliers instead of regular people lamps, beautiful, almost regal-like furniture. She briefly considered the possibility of those kinds of movies being filmed in real gangsters' homes. The only thing that didn't quite fit the atmosphere were the unexplainable pastel pink walls.
“Anyone home?” Narancia called out. There was a bit of an echo, once again hitting Olive in the face with the fact that this might be the biggest residence she has ever seen.
“In the living room!” A tired voice responded from somewhere within the house.
Narancia came running after it and Olive felt as if she had no other choice but to follow. She was led out of the hallway to a large room with a giant TV, a god damn pool table and a couch that just looked the right amount of fancy and comfortable. There was a pale boy around her age spread out on it, brows furrowed, clearly focused on a bunch of papers laying everywhere around him. And once again, Olive could not have been prepared for his outrageous fashion decisions. Why would anyone think it's a good idea to cut up a perfectly good suit? Not only was it a waste of material, but it also strongly reminded her of swiss cheese, which was just ridiculous.
Narancia ran up to him and quickly planted a kiss on his cheek. The other teenager didn't even look up from whatever he was doing.
“Hard at work, I see?” He asked, while he seated himself on the couch next to the pale stranger. Narancia wasn’t deterred by his gloomy disposition at all.
“Fuck off” The other boy hissed, but there wasn’t any real bite behind his words “How was school?”
“Boring as ever.” Narancia answered and was finally met with a red pair of eyes, glaring at him. “Oh, I almost forgot!” He smirked and started looking for something in his bag.
“Mine too!” Giorno joined the conversation as Olive started to forget he was even there. He took a few steps over to the couch and handed the mystery boy his math notebook. Narancia did the same.
“For the last time, I’m a law major. I don’t know why I was given the task of doing your math homework.” He groaned and snatched the notes from their hands. Narancia murmured something akin to “...well, math has laws and shit too…” and the pale boy’s eyes met hers, as he sat up from his lying position. “Who’s this?”
“That’s Olive, our classmate. She had something important to tell me, so I invited her over.” Giorno introduced her with a smile. She was grateful he spoke for her as she didn’t trust herself to be coherent when met with that cold gaze “Olive, that’s Fugo. He’s a part of the family too.”
She went over to the Fugo person and managed to let out a weak hello. She held out her hand, but the boy didn’t take it, scanning her with his eyes instead. Despite his appearance, he did have that serious, stone-cold gangster aura about him. While Narancia and Giorno immediately seemed endearing and generally approachable, Fugo’s quick analysis of her was threatening.
“You'll have to forgive him, he doesn’t ‘people’ well, our Fugo.” Narancia elbowed him, which convinced the blonde to shake her hand at last. He didn’t return her greeting either way.
“Anyway” Giorno turned to her again “Would you like to come upstairs to my room so we can talk?”
“Sure.” And Olive could feel the fear settling even stronger. She was supposed to confront Giorno about her suspicions, she reminded herself.
She was led to a staircase deeper in the house, which was made out of marble, because of course it was. With each step, she could feel another drop of sweat forming on her forehead. She didn’t have any idea what would happen to her after this conversation. Sure, Giorno was her classmate and, she’d hope, a friend, but he most definitely had resources to get rid of her if need be. Would she be deemed a danger to this whole operation? It’s not like these men acted in a subtle way, there was no real cover for her to ruin. And no one ever listened to her either, so by this logic she couldn’t really do anything to hurt their business. But then again, she didn’t know anything about the inner workings of the mafia and she never thought she’d ever want to.
Very much stuck in her head, Olive didn’t even hear the door closing behind her after entering Giorno’s bedroom. He gestured for her to sit down on the bed next to him and she obeyed.
“So, what seems to be the issue-”
“Giorno, isyourfathersomehowinvolvedwiththemafia?” The string of words came out of her mouth faster than she’d be able to stop herself.
“Pardon?” He looked at her, clearly confused. Right, yes, she needed to speak at a speed slow enough for him to comprehend.
Olive took a deep breath to steady herself. She knew this would be hard, she could manage this. She looked down at her hands before opening her mouth to speak.
“Giorno, is your father maybe, somehow involved with the mafia?” She repeated, going very slow to make sure she didn’t trip over her words.
And the boy before her actually laughed at that. She didn’t know what kind of reaction she was expecting from him, but surely not this. She felt like maybe this was supposed to be a threat, but it didn’t sound sinister or dishonest. It was just Giorno being Giorno. She still didn’t allow herself to relax at that though.
“No, no, he doesn’t have anything to do with that.” He assured her with a smirk. “You see, funny story, but he’s a vampire actually.”
“Hey, don’t make fun of me!” She looked up at him “I’m serious! You just suddenly disappear for a week after all your years keeping up perfect attendance, you don’t really acknowledge it to anyone and then when you come back you can just… order all these people around? You made my father’s debt go away, Giorno! How am I supposed to not be concerned after something like that?” She was becoming a little hysterical, but she didn’t care all that much. Giorno never judged her for acting up like others did sometimes. Even now, she could see him give her a compassionate look.
“I’m not making fun of you.” He paused for a bit “I didn’t know you felt that way… Maybe it would be for the best if I finally explained some things to you?”
She nodded silently and the boy scooted over closer. They weren’t looking at each other anymore, but their shoulders were touching now. Olive honestly appreciated the lack of eye contact at times like this and she had a hunch Giorno knew that.
“You see, when I took the week off from school I did in fact go on a mission to take over Passione or “the mafia”, as you put it. I’ve seen them perform actions that I didn’t agree with in the past. They did a lot of reprehensible things, one of the biggest ones was selling drugs to children a lot younger than us. I couldn’t stand for that, I had to take action. I went on this week-long “adventure” with the people that now I’m proud to call my family. There’s a lot more to it than that, we risked our lives multiple times, but I’d rather spare you all the gruesome details. At the end we disposed of the previous leader and I took his place.”
He sighted and then turned to look at her “I know it sounds scary to hear your classmate is involved with organized crime, but we’re not scary people. I did what I had to in order to try and make Naples a better place to live in. I know it probably doesn’t feel like it, but I promise you don’t have to worry about this.”
Olive was left speechless. This whole monologue from Giorno would have sounded unbelievable just a few weeks ago, but at this time she was sure the boy was telling the whole truth. And it was a lot to take in. She knew Giorno meant for it to be reassuring and to calm her down a bit, but she still wasn’t sure what could come next.
“What’s going to happen to me now?” She whispered “Do you have to get rid of me after telling me all of this?”
“Of course not! You think I would just harm an innocent person like that?” He stared at her in disbelief and then it hit her. Even after getting involved with this suspicious organization, this was still just Giorno Giovanna. Giorno, who was always ready to stop whatever he was doing to help out a few classmates. Giorno, who made sure frogs made their way across the street safely on rainy days. Giorno, whose smile was genuine and who she was happy to share lunch with on many occasions in the past.
“Now that you mention it, it does sound rather stupid…” She heaved out a strained laugh.
They sat in silence for a moment until Giorno stood up.
“Would you like to stay over for dinner? Since Bruno’s not here, we’ll probably just order some pizza.” The blonde offered.
“Sure, I’d like that. Could I just use a phone to call my father first?”
-
After calling the nearest pizza place, the two of them went around the mansion to call over the rest of this strange family for dinner. Olive wasn’t sure if all these people were in the house before and she just didn’t notice them in her daze or whether they all came in after them. Either way, they were now sitting at the long table in the dining hall, all seven of them - Olive, the two of her classmates - Giorno and Narancia, this Fugo guy and three other people who she was told were Mista, Abacchio and Trish. She felt like she was imposing on something, being the only outsider and the only one dressed in normal people clothes, but the lively atmosphere made her just a bit more comfortable. Narancia leaned on Fugo as he argued with Mista over some musicians Olive wasn’t at all familiar with. Trish complained to Giorno that they knew she absolutely hated pizza with mushrooms, yet they still kept buying it over literally anything else. The boy just grinned. Abbacchio was the quietest out of all of them, only joining the conversation to mutter something about how annoyed he was at Bruno not being there with them. Overall, it was quite nice. Olive could see herself coming over more in the future.
At the end of the day, Giorno Giovanna might actually be the mafia, but that’s none of her concern. The important thing is that Giorno Giovanna is her friend.
