Charity

When Hoseok happily agrees to help raise money for a local Children's charity for Christmas, an auction for a date night with the winner isn't what he had in mind but after meeting the winner, Min Yoongi, a friend he hasn't heard from in almost a year, maybe the night won't be so bad afterall.

Notes:

This fic is for #Sopemas2020 Day 6

I chose to do Days 1 - 6 of Sopemas and all 6 fics go hand-in-hand with each other but can also be read as stand alones. They explore Yoongi and Hoseok's relationship through their years together meaning that each fic will have the same Sope couple as the others but at different points in their lives.

As I post each day, I will put their Chronological order number for those who wish to read them in order.

Lastly, this fic has not been beta'd so I apologize for any typos or grammatical errors you may see.

Thank you for reading. Comments and feedback are aways welcomed and encouraged. I really hope you enjoy my work!

Work Text:

"SOLD!!" The word echoed in Hoseok's head as he stood on stage, looking out to try and see anything. The crowd was dark and he couldn't distinguish anyone's face. He hadn't heard the word said out loud or anything but those were the types of Auctions he was used to seeing on tv. This one, however, was not one of those types. There were no loud speakers or anyone up front yelling out numbers and words that sounded like gibberish. This was the silent kind of auction.

Hoseok had been so excited to help with one of local children's charities. They wanted to raise money for the less fortunate so that they could have some kind of Christmas that they normally wouldn't have for whatever reason. Hoseok heard about it and he was all over it.

No child should ever be without on christmas and even if he couldn't go out and personally give it to each and every one, this would suffice. He thought maybe it would be a toy drive or a fundraiser of some sort but when the chairman announced it would be a charity auction, Hoseok was confused on how he could possibly help.

As it turned out, he was on the menu for things being auctioned off. It was nothing explicit, of course. Just a one night dinner date with whom ever had the highest bid. Hoseok could do that, plus it meant free food and who could ever turn that down? But, this was for the children. For their Christmas and Hoseok was happy to do it.

He was motioned off stage once the silent bidding was over, almost confident that no one had bid anything. He didn't think hevwas anything extraordinary but apparently hevwas wrong. The curators over the auction were in awe of the winning big that had just been made. It was more money than the rest of the auction had gotten collectively. Obviously someone really wanted this night with Hoseok and he wanted...no, he NEEDED to know who.

Frustration set in when the only information given about the winning bidder were three letters. No name or anything else, just a bold MYG. "Hoseok, this is for you'' one of the men called out who had been helping run the event. Hoseok blinked in surprise as he took the envelope. All the other bidders had at least somewhat come forward with their donations except for his. "Maybe it was some kind of joke" he told himself, a pout forming on his lips from the thought. He didn't care if he spent the evening with someone or not but the bid for him was....it was huge. That could go towards helping so many children in need. If whoever made the bid for an evening with him did it as some sick joke and backed out, Hoseok would make sure there was hell to pay.

Hoseok looked down at the envelope. There were those three letters again. What did they mean? Where they initials? He flipped over the envelope and on the back in small but fine print was his own name along with a note telling him to open and follow the instructions inside. He couldn't believe what he was reading. There was a folded slip of paper inside with detailed instructions. It seemed to be from his bidder. "Really? A car is waiting for me outside..? Why can't they just meet me here like a normal person?" Despite all his inner questions, he did as the letter said. He grabbed his coat and headed out front. Sure enough, there was a car there waiting with a chauffeur standing beside it. "Jung Hoseok, please, right this way sir." He said as he opened the door for Hoseok.

Minutes later they were on the road, heading somewhere Hoseok had no idea of. In retrospect, blindly following a random letter from someone he didn't even know sounded crazy. He could've been kidnapped or worse but here he was, putting faith and trust into the unknown as he watched the street lights flash in a blur as the car went by them.

His destination must not have been too far away because before Hoseok knew it, the car had stopped and the driver got out, walked around to his door and opened it for him. Hoseok barely had time to read the rest of his mystery letter. He read something about a hotel but with it being dark and the blurred street lights his only source of light, not much else could be made out.

As he stepped out of the car, the hotel bit he read about was right in front of him. He was so focused on the building and all its festive holiday decorations that he barely heard the driver speak. He recognized this hotel, it was rather famous...not to mention luxurious and it even doubled as one of the city's premiere restaurants. He blinked and looked at the man then his attention moved towards a woman who approached him.

"Good evening, sir." She greeted him with a bright smile "if you would follow me please, I'll take you to your reserved section." Ok, so he was here for the restaurant portion of the building. Relief washed over him. He tried not to think negatively but in the back of his mind he couldn't help wondering why he was being brought to a hotel for a date. Hoseok nodded with his naturally bright smile and followed her.

He had been sceptical when the night started but as time passed, the idea of this auctioned date was starting to settle with him. Honestly all of this was more than flattering to him. Not only had this person paid a hefty amount just to out bid whoever else at the auction but they were going all out with the date. Hoseok felt spoiled.

The woman led him through the hotel lobby and through the restaurant until they reached an elevator. After going inside, he watched her press the button that was labelled "rooftop" and up they went.

As they reached the top in the elevator doors opened, Hoseok's eyes were met with a glow from the soft lighting. The woman didn't exit the elevator but gestured for him to do so. "Please, enjoy your evening, sir." She said as he stepped out onto the rooftop.

"Thank you," he replied though his words were only a formality. He was too engrossed in the sight before. Before him was a single table placed close enough to the roof's edge so that one could look out at the beautifully lit city lights but not so close that it would be hazardous. The table had an elegant set up. Two crystal clear wine glasses, one at each space on the table. It looked as if the plates were made of the finest china Hoseok had ever seen. This was a dream, it had to be. Everything was so nice and perfect. The whole atmosphere felt like….like him. His eyes caught sight of the table's centerpiece and it made his heart skip a beat. A small vase with a bouquet of red and blue flowers.

Just then he heard a small shuffling sound and his attention turned as he spun around quickly. A person stood on the balcony of the roof. Hoseok couldn't make out any features, it was like the auction all over again.  "Hello, you must be my date." he said softly in assumption and as the person turned to look at him, the light caught on him, revealing his face for Hoseok to see. Hoseok's eyes widened and his hands came up to cover his mouth and they muffled the soft gasp that came from him. "Y-Yoonie? Oh my god–...is that–...it's really– it's really you!"

Hoseok's words were met with a small gummy smile from his friend. "Hey sunshine," Yoongi said softly. "Yeah, It's me. Surprised?"

Hoseok only nodded, his heart shaped smile was fading and his lips were starting to quiver. He was so happy to see Yoongi, so happy that it was making him tear up from the overwhelming emotions going through him. "It feels like it's been forever…" he said through a couple of sniffles.

"I'm so sorry, Hoseok. I know it's almost been a year but yeah...it feels like much longer." Yoongi walked over and pulled Hoseok into a tight hug. "Shh, don't cry, okay? I'm here now." he whispered as Hoseok wrapped his arms around just as tight.

"Did you find what you were looking for?" Hoseok questioned against the smaller man's shoulder. "It's been so long, I don't care if it's only been a year. That's too long."

"I know I know but…" Yoongi pulled back and swiped his thumb gently over his friend's eyes. "I did. And actually, That's why I came to find you."

"Why didn't you call? Or message me?"

"Because some things are better told in person and I owed you this much for disappearing like I did while I got my shit together." Yoongi thought back to last Christmas. Hoseok's family had welcomed him into their home but he had gone as Hoseok's date. The entire ordeal had been planned by both boys because of Hoseok's mom bugging him about relationships. But that night's events had jarred something inside of Yoongi. It made feelings blossom that he wasn't ready to deal with so like a scared child, he ran away.

"Hoseok...It's true I had to get myself together on top of dealing with school too. I really didn't mean for it to take this long but I was scared, okay?"

Hoseok reached over and covered Yoongi's mouth and damn near half his face with his hand to stop him from talking. "I don't want any apologies. I just want my friend back, I want you."

Yoongi stared up into Hoseok's eyes and slowly pulled the man's hand from his face. "Hoseok. That's the thing. Just let me get this out, I need to." He didn't give the taller male room to argue or dispute. "I don't want to be friends with you."

The moment Hoseok heard those words, his stomach felt like it flipped upside down. "Then why, Yoonie?? Why go through all of this tonight and–"

"Sunshine, I swear." This time it was Yoongi who covered Hoseok's mouth to cut him off. "I don't want to be friends with you….I mean, I do but I want something more. I…" Yoongi was failing at this whole confession thing. He had all that time to get himself together and here he still couldn't get his words out right. Putting his raw feelings out there, making himself so vulnerable...it just wasn't something Yoongi normally did.

Hoseok's face changed once again. This time his features were so soft. His eyes had tears in them again as he listened to Yoongi's word vomit of a confession. His heart was so full and warm within his chest, even as it thudded against his ribcage. Suddenly all the time they had been apart didn't even matter. Hoseok closed the distance between them and cupped Yoongi's face in his hands and leaned in until their lips met.

Of all the places Yoongi could have picked from, why a rooftop? Especially in the middle of winter. It was so chilly up there but Hoseok's hands were like mini furnaces on Yoongi's cheeks. He was warming him from the inside out and Yoongi could have melted right there in the midst of their kiss. His words hadn't come out right but Hoseok still understood what he was trying to say. Of course he did. He always understood Yoongi the best. Hoseok knew him better than he knew himself most days. Their kiss was filled with everything that neither of them could say to each other until now.

Why had neither of them noticed how they felt? Why did it take some fake date from last Christmas for them to figure it out? None if that mattered now.

As Hoseok pulled back and broke their kiss, it left Yoongi with his own lips parted and wanting more. Instead, he licked over them, tasting the sweet minty flavor of Hoseok then he reached up to gently wipe his tears away again. "You're crying so much tonight. I wanted the night to be special and for you to be happy."

Hoseok pushed Yoongi's hand away and sniffled. "It's your fault I'm like this, you idiot!" He bit back but there was no hostility in his voice. In fact, he couldn't stop smiling. "But you're my idiot…" Hoseok paused and once more glanced around his surroundings to the table next to them then the flowers in the middle of it, the ones that matched what Yoongi had given him last year at his parent's, all the way to the lit up city that provided the most beautiful and romantic background Hoseok could have ever imagined. "At least, you better be after everything you've done tonight."

"I was always yours, I was just too stupid to realize it but now that I have, you're stuck with me." Said Yoongi, adding a small sheepish chuckle.

"Neither of us did…" Hoseok replied with a look of soft but seriousness. "I was always yours too but it never hit me until last year how I truly felt and how much I deeply cared about you. That was the realist fake date I've ever experienced."

"It was the only one you've experienced," Yoongi said then grabbed his arm when Hoseok smacked it.

"Shut up, you know what I mean, geez, Yoonie. Stop ruining our moment!"  Hoseok snapped but he wasn't mad, far from it in fact. He was still smiling with a look of endearment on his face.

"So then that's it. I'm your idiot and you're my ray of sunshine?" Yoongi asked,  in more of a statement.

Hoseok's face flushed softly and he nodded then leaned in to kiss him again. Ever since Yoongi had first called him that last Christmas, he loved it. He would always love it, because Yoongi had been the one to give him that nickname.

When Hoseok pulled away again, Yoongi moved over to the table and pulled out a chair. "Dinner should be here soon," he said, having almost forgotten the night he had planned.

Hoseok blushed more as he took a seat. Despite the cool air of the winter's night, the seat was surprisingly warm. "Heated seats, really?" He asked and shook his head, smiling as Yoongi sat across from him. "That makes me think. Yoonie, how did you do all of this? The reservation, this hotel of all places. The chauffeur that picked me up from the–" he cut himself off and his eyes widened. "The auction too! Yoonie, oh my god! I heard how much the date with me went for! Do you realize how many kids that will help??"

Hoseok was almost in tears again just from how touched he felt. Christmas really meant so much to him and now thanks to Yoongi, the charity had collected almost double of what its goal had been. "How did you– You did all of that….all of this for me?" He asked again, moving his hands around, gesturing at the rooftop setup. "And the auction…."

"Ok, First of all…. I had to make a bid that no one else would be able to beat because I wanted the date with you. But even without that, We both know how much this charity means to both of us and you know why. So I know my money is going to a good place.  Secondly, a lot has happened in the last year, a lot that I need to fill you in on and I plan to do that over dinner and during what I have planned after this."

Hoseok's gaze softened and for once he was speechless. He just looked at Yoongi with adoration from across the table.

"I don't want to sound like a cheapskate or anything but the Hotel, the restaurant and the chauffeur...well, they didn't cost me a dime. They were gifts from a friend. Once I called him up and told him my plans, he was practically begging me to let him help. So I did. I wanted tonight to be perfect and so far, it has been."

Hoseok was about to reply, his expression full of curiosity but  The elevator doors opened and two men came out pushing a dining cart with them. Dinner was here and Hoseok's questions would have to wait but the food smelled delicious, it had his stomach growling, so he didn't mind.

The servers placed their covered meals in front of them then removed the domes to reveal the most perfect looking steak with grilled asparagus and sautéed garlic shrimp. Hoseok was practically drooling. It was his favorite meal. Of course Yoongi had chosen it for tonight. Was there anything this man didn't do? A salad of mixed greens, julienned carrot slivers and cherry tomatoes with a light house made dressing was placed down for them as well followed by decadent chocolate cake drizzled with raspberry coulis and topped with small shavings of white chocolate.

Hoseok could not wait for these men to leave so he could dig in. He wasn't the prissy uppity type but he did have manners. Yoongi on the other hand...Hoseok shot him a quick glare when he spotted his boyfriend reaching for his steak. Yoongi caught it and stopped himself, then pulled his hand away, moving it to his lap. After both of their wine glasses were filled and the bottle placed in an ice bucket on the table, the two men left them to be alone once more.

Yoongi stared at Hoseok with big puppy dog-like eyes, another rarity for him. Hoseok let out a soft giggle "Go ahead, I know you want to." He said, covering his mouth half way and laughed a bit more. Yoongi was so damn adorable. But it wasn't as if Hoseok didn't want the same because within a matter of seconds, both of them were eating what was probably the best meal of their lives.

The talking over dinner never happened. Both men were starving and too busy devouring their food for any real conversation, it was mostly just casual banter and remarks about how good the food was. When it came to dessert though, Yoongi cut off the tip of his cake slice with his fork then picked it up and moved it over to Hoseok's lips. Hiseok flushed but a split second later, he did the same. "Together" he stated with that heart shaped smile and he was met with teeth and gums from Yoongi. "Together," Yoongi repeated, then both of them took their bites at the same time.

When they finished off their desserts and wine, Yoongi rested his chin on his hands and looked across the table. "I think since we're both done, we can move on to the last part of our date. What do you think?"

Hoseok nodded in response as he dabbed his mouth with a napkin. "I'd like that. I'm curious to see what else you have planned. Oh! But don't forget, you said you'd explain things!"

"And I will. I promise." Yoongi said, then stood up, holding out his hand to Hoseok who took it and stood as well.

As they walked out of the hotel, Hoseok expected them to be taking a car somewhere but Yoongi led him past the row of  Valets and on down the sidewalk. That only raised his curiousness. They walked silently for a few blocks, hand in hand until Yoongi turned a corner that led to the entrance of a park. It was decorated from the ground up with lights of all colors. Some flashing, some were shaped into various figures and forms to match the holiday season.

Yoongi watched as Hoseok's eyes lit up with the wonder of a child. They shined just as brightly as the lights that now surrounded them as they strolled into the park. "Yoonie, it's so beautiful."

"I thought a walk through here would be the perfect way to end our date. I know how much you love things like this, how much they mean to you." Yoongi said thoughtfully. And it was true. Yoongi knew him, unimaginably well.

Hoseok let go of Yoongi's hand only to grab ahold of his arm instead. He nuzzled in against the smaller man's side with a smile on his face that Yoongi could stare at forever. "I love this so much. You really thought of everything. You're amazing…"

"I'm glad you love it. I'd do anything to see that sunshine smile brought to your face." Yoongi replied. He took in a breath of the crisp cool air and glanced over to Hoseok. "So, you know I was taking culinary classes, right?"

Hoseok glanced back and nodded thoughtfully. "Mhm, Chef Min~" he teased

Yoongi chuckled "Well, the restaurant we ate at, there's another one not far from where I go to school. One of the head chefs there got word from my instructor about me being a prodigy in the kitchen, as he put it, and I was presented with an opportunity I couldn't pass up. I didn't even think things like that existed. They offered to pay for the rest of my culinary schooling on top of giving me a job working for them in one of the lead positions. Babe, I'm talkin' a yearly salary like I've never seen before. All to do what I'm passionate about and love."

Hoseok's mouth fell open as he listened. "Yoonie, that's amazing!!" He exclaimed excitedly. "I'm so proud of you!!" Hoseok peppered his boyfriend's cheek with celebratory kisses.

"That's how I was able to do all of this, the auction too." He added, finishing off his story and finally answering Hoseok's wandering mind.

Hoseok looked up to the sky through the light covered trees. It wasn't black or even that dark. It was more of a pinkish color and full of clouds. He felt a cold sensation touch the tip of his nose and gasped softly. "Yoonie, look! It's snowing!!" And it was. Small fluffy snowflakes were starting to fall all around them. If the night hadn't been perfect, it was now.

It wasn't anything heavy.  By the time it was over there would probably only be a small dusting that covered the ground so the two of them continued on through the park, talking, staying close, nuzzling up against each other for warmth and comfort as they conversed.

Hoseok told Yoongi everything that had happened with him since they had last talked. He told him how he had finally decided what he wanted to study in school, about how he had decided to major in dancing and Yoongi thought that was so fitting for him.  But not only that, he wanted to be able to teach others how to dance. He had dreams of owning his own studio in the future and Yoongi just knew that he would be right there by his side throughout his journey to support and cheer him on as he moved closer and closer to his dream.

They had probably circled the park roughly 10 times before they decided to call it a night but only because they had lost track of time and security was now asking them to leave. Who knew parks had a closing time??

Yoongi had taken Hoseok back to the hotel and even offered for him to stay in the room he'd gotten for himself while he was in town. Of course Hoseok took him up on the offer. It had been nearly a year since he'd seen his friend...no, Yoongi was now his boyfriend and that thought put a smile on Hoseok's face.

They made it to the room and both were snuggled up in the bed in each other's arms. "We stayed out too long," Hoseok mumbled as he moved in as close to Yoongi as he could. "I think my bones are even cold."

"Yeah probably but we'll get warmed up in no time, I mean you're literally like the sun soo…" Yoongi half smirked and  pressed a soft kiss to Hoseok's temple then the top of his head. A thought hit him and he chuckled "You know? Now we don't have to pretend for your mom anymore~"

Hoseok couldn't help the giggle that escaped him. "Speaking of, she doesn't know that you disappeared so she's kind of expecting you to come back this year. I WAS going to tell her that you couldn't make it to town since I didn't know where you disappeared to...but now that you're here…."

"Yeah yeah. Last time went better than I thought so I guess I can do it again." Yoongi said softly and Hoseok beamed tiredly.

"She'll be happy to see you. She couldn't stop talking about you and bragging to all her friends about the "sweet charming guy I brought home for Christmas.""

Yoongi would have laughed had he not been cut off by a yawn but his cheeks did turn a light shade of pink.

"We should sleep…." Hoseok mumbled as he nuzzled his head against Yoongi.

"I think I'm already half there" he replied

Hoseok closed his eyes and sighed in content. "Don't go without me. Together. Remember?"

"Together," Yoongi repeated and yawned again "Goodnight Sunshine"

""Goodnight, Yoonie."
