Ice Skating

Yoongi promised to take Hoseok skating, more like teach him HOW to skate, but when morning comes, he doesn't even want to get out of bed. Que an extra dose of sunshine to wake him up and get him out the door.

Notes:

This fic is for #Sopemas2020 Day 1

I chose to do Days 1 - 6 of Sopemas and all 6 fics go hand-in-hand with each other but can also be read as stand alones. They explore Yoongi and Hoseok's relationship through their years together meaning that each fic will have the same Sope couple as the others but at different points in their lives.

As I post each day, I will put their Chronological order number for those who wish to read them in order.

Lastly, this fic has not been beta'd so I apologize for any typos or grammatical errors you may see.

Thank you for reading. Comments and feedback are aways welcomed and encouraged. I really hope you enjoy my work

Chronologically #3

Work Text:

Hoseok watched the TV with wide childlike wonder in his eyes as he and Yoongi ate dinner together that night. The new skating rink That had been announced months ago was finally finished. It was being built right in the centre of town too. His head snapped over to Yoongi with excitement. "We have to go!" He exclaimed, practically bouncing in his spot at the table. "It opens tomorrow, will you go with me, please? It'll be the best date ever!"

Yoongi had a feeling this was coming. As soon as the commercial came on, he just knew and there it was. Yoongi had no plans to leave the house that week and wanted to keep it that way but how could he resist Hoseok being so damn adorable like that? "Should we bring elbow and knee pads too? You don't exactly know how to skate–" Yoongi teased then ducked as a balled up napkin was thrown at him.

"Then you can teach me." Hoseok lanswered with a small pout. He gave his boyfriend a look and crossed his arms over his chest. "You have to leave the house at some point and stop being a hermit."

Yoongi rolled his eyes slightly and after a few grumbles and a sigh, he finally agreed. Honestly, he knew he would end up agreeing but Hoseok looked so cute with his little pouts and expressions, Yoongi couldn't help himself. "Let me guess, you want to go right when they open up, don't you?"

"Well how else am I supposed to try and learn? If we go later there will be too many people there and I won't have much room to do anything." Hoseok retorted, finishing off his dinner. "It said they open at 7am so let's go then."

"7–" Yoongi wanted to die. He ran his hands over his face then through his black hair. "7am. You're going to be the death of me one day, I swear."

"But it'll be me so it's okay, right?" Hoseok said quickly with a wide dimpled smile, the one Yoongi had fallen in love with many moons ago.

"It's always okay when it's because of you, Sunshine" said Yoongi. "Fine. 7am…..only for you though. Promise."

Hoseok leaped up off of his seat and moved over to wrap his arms around Yoongi from behind. He nuzzled their cheeks together before placing a kiss on Yoongi's with an "I love you" attached.

"Yoongi couldn't help smiling a little. He loved seeing Hoseok so happy like that. "I love you too~"

*****

Morning came and Hoseok was wide awake. Already, 3 of the 5 alarms he'd set had gone off and Yoongi had slept through them all. Hoseok decided to go and get ready, letting his boyfriend sleep in just a little more. Once he found what he would wear, he dressed. It didn't take him long despite him having two whole layers of clothes and a big red puffy bubble coat with fuzzies around the rim of the hood.

He went back to check on Yoongi once he was ready, and of course he was still sleeping even with the alarm blasting from Hoseok's phone right next to his head. Hoseok smirked though. He took off running towards the bed.

"YOOONGLESSSS" he shouted as he landed right next to Yoongi on his hands and knees then started bouncing on the bed. Yoongi was curled up on his side so Hoseok placed his hands on his arm and shook him. "Wakey wakey, Yoongles! It's time to get up!"

Yoongi groaned tiredly "I don't wanna get up, can't we go later..?"

"You said we could go now, so get up" Hoseok huffed, "You promised last night!"

Yoongi groaned more then forced himself to sit up, looking like a whole ass cute zombie to Hoseok "Fine….fine...I'm up, I'm up…" he yawned and rubbed the sleep from his eyes.

Hoseok kissed his lips with a small peak before moving off the bed then brought over an armful of clothes, dropping them onto Yoongi's lap. "I already have everything ready for you too so all you have to do is get dressed."

Hoseok must've really REALLY been into this, Yoongi thought. Luckily his boyfriend knew him well enough to actually pick things out that he would wear. The thought made him smile inwardly, he was too tired to do a physical one. Quickly, Yoongi pulled on his clothes and soon they were out the door thanks to Hoseok's usheting. They didn't live far from the rink so they decided to walk plus the cold air would help Yoongi wake up more. They even stopped at a coffee shop and got some hot chocolate on the way, Hoseok's idea for Yoongi since he had agreed to come out with him so early. He knew his Yoongles wasn't a morning person and he liked foing special things for him when he did something for Hoseok even when he didn't want to. It was his way of showing his appreciation.

As they arrived, Hoseok was starry eyed and beaming from the inside out with joy. He'd never really been to an actual ice rink before or even skating for that matter. He tried roller blading twice, busted his ass both times. Yoongi had witnessed and laughed his ass off too, after making sure Hoseok was ok first, of course.

The two of them tossed their cups in the trash once they finished then went up to get their rental skates. Yoongi helped Hoseok with his, then laced up and tied his own. He gave the other a look. "You sure you wanna do this? You're gonna fall...a lot.

Hoseok scrunched up his face "You'll catch me" he said confidently as he gripped the side of the wall and tried standing.

"Sure…." Replied Yoongi, knowing good and well he'd do his best but couldn't make any promises, not with how messed up his shoulder was.

Hoseok stood on wobbly legs as he tried to balance on the thin blades. He had good balance normally so that helped a bit. Still holding onto the wall, he took a step towards the opening of the rink, Yoongi followed right behind him.

"You're doin' good so far," he told him, giving a small pat to Hoseok's back for encouragement.

Hoseok finally reached the rink opening and looked out. He had been right about there not being anyone there so early...it was completely empty except for them and the staff. He looked back at Yoongi. "I'm going to try by myself first….don't you dare laugh at me!" Without waiting for a reply he turned back and placed one blade on the ice, then the other and tried to keep himself steady. A second later the entire rink area was filled with echoes of Hoseok's panicked screams and down he went.

The staff looked over and Yoongi couldn't help snickering. "I told you so, Sunshine." He moved out onto the ice and did a small circle before stopping next to his grounded boyfriend then reached out a hand to him. "Alright you, up we go~" he pulled the other male up when his hand was taken then guided him over to the side. "How about you just hold on to the wall for now until you get a feel for how your body will move. This….there is a HUGE difference between roller blading on concrete and skating on ice." Yoongi explained.

Hoseok nodded then looked at him, "Will you hold my hand and I can use the wall too?" He questioned with a pout, still disappointed that he hadn't made even 20 seconds before going down.

Yoongi blinked. How was he supposed to say no to that? "Of course I will. I'll let you set the pace though. Focus on your balance most of all then work on trying to move. If you manage to get some momentum going, that'll help out a lot too." Yoongi was really trying to give his best advice and he could tell that Hoseok was absorbing every word. He loved that about him. When he put his mind to it, there was nothing his ray of light couldn't do.

Hoseok shuffled his feet after seeming to balance himself. He gripped tightly to both Yoongi's hand and the wall and used the wall to try and move himself forward instead of propelling himself with his feet. Maybe if he could get some momentum like Yoongi said then he'd be able to get a better hang on things.

"You're doin' really good, babe" Yoongi praised, keeping a firm grip on Hoseok's hand as he gained a bit of speed. He always was a fast learner no matter what he seemed to do and Yoongi loved that about him too.

Hoseok was scared of falling again but the quicker his psce became, more excitement and adrenaline rushed through his veins. His confidence was growing as well and after a few more seconds he wiggled his fingers in Yoongi's hand, signaling that he wanted to let go and Yoongi let him while giving a surprised look.

Hoseok's eyes were focused now as they approached the end of the rink, he would have to turn soon and Yoongi was a bit worried. Sure his boyfriend was an exceptional learner but it could still be tricky for a first timer. Before when Hoseok had tried to rollerblade, he'd never made it that far. He fell on his ass every time he tried to stand and with everyone around him laughing, he just sat there and pouted, took the skates off and threw them. It was a funny scene though, and one of the ones Yoongi remembered vividly. Hoseok was adorable, ESPECIALLY when he pouted. That was before they had gotten together though. Hoseok had grown so much since then.

"Are you sure you've got this?" Yoongi questioned as he held out his hand again to the other male.

"No, but I want to try" replied Hoseok honestly and Yoongi just smiled

"Go for it, baby. You can do it."

Hoseok beamed and looked more determined than ever with his Yoongi right by his side praising and cheering him on. As he got to the curve, he kept his hand on the wall but not as tightly. Hoseok slightly leaned his body to the left and was moving that way as well. He was doing it!! It was such a small feat but he was living his best life in that little accomplishment and it gave a major boost to his spirit.

He hadn't noticed it before but assumed that the venue had started playing music while he was focusing. Either way, he noticed it now and wanted to move in sync with it. It was upbeat too, Jinglebell Rock. Something he could really sink his blades into. After completing his corner he was on the straight away again only this time, his hand was practically only gliding across the surface of the wall as he used it for reassurance when he needed to rebalance himself.

Yoongi had fallen slightly behind him, having taken out his phone. His gummy smile was wide with pride at how well his Sunshine was doing, he HAD to record it so they could watch it later. "Seokie, look at you go!! I'm so proud of you, baby!" And he truly was.

As Hoseok started pulling away from it, it was apparent that he had gotten the hang of it. He was moving faster and faster, propelling himself with each gliding step he took until he was fully in sync with the music now.

Yoongi quickly moved to catch up with him and in a matter of seconds, they were coming to their starting point. Almost flawlessly, Hoseok leaned again to round the curve, this time he wasn't even touching the wall with his hand. He didn’t propel himself around the curve but he kept the same speed and glided his way until he was going straight again.

Yoongi picked up his own pace as he continued to record the moment and ended up passing Hoseok, only to turn around once he was in front of him so that he was now skating backwards. He needed...no. He wanted to get a front angle of Hoseok skating and doing so well.

Hoseok's face flushed a faded tint of red when he saw. At first he was going to give his boyfriend a scowling look for showing off his skill but that all changed when he saw Yoongi's phone. It was rather easy to piece together.

"Yoongleesss" he whined, "Whyyyy?"

"Why not? Look at my professional figure skater go!" He smirked behind that gummy smile "Come on, baby. Wave for the camera. Show the world how amazing you are~" there was a playfulness in his tone but he was deadass serious and Hoseok could have died right there on the ice at the realization of Yoongi's words.

"You're not!! Yoongi, oh my god! Stoooop. You better not be live!!" He quickly grabbed the wall when he almost lost balance but saved himself.

Yoongi cackled mischievously and after a few more seconds he tucked his phone away. He wanted to capture the moment but he wanted to skate with Hoseok without distractions, more.

Yoongi spun back around and let himself fall back so that he was next to Hoseok again. "Come on," he ssid, reaching out for the other's hand again. "Hold on to me and let go of the wall fully. I know you can do it."

Hoseok did as he said and took his hand. By now there were a few others on the ice but it still wasn't crowded or even that bad. Songs changed and they both sang along while skating hand in hand. It was just like Hoseok had said the night before. This had turned out to be one of the best dates he'd ever been on. It felt like time wasn't even a thing to them because neither had noticed how much had passed until their stomachs growled almost in unison to be fed. They were in their own world. "Lunch after this then home to snuggle? The best way to end our date." Hoseok questioned but his words were more of a demand and Yoongi had no qualms with it.

Yoongi had come a long way from his half dead self that didn't want to get out of bed that morning. He was enjoying himself a lot more than he ever thought he would from skating and Hoseok was playing a major part in that. A promise is a promise, he remembered his boyfriend saying that and Yoongi was glad that he stuck to it instead of sleeping his day away. This would definitely be among the memories they had that they would look back on many years into their future together.
