Home is Where the Nest is

Summary:

Hawks loves to visit his little intern. He might annoy Aizawa in the process, but he just couldn't resist!

He didn't mean to become such a frequent visitor, honest! It's just that UA was surprisingly welcoming.

In which Hawks becomes a common sight at UA, and Aizawa sets his sights on a whole new problem child - this one with wings.

Work Text:

"Hi 'Zawa!" Hawks chirped as he walked into the classroom like he belonged there.

What could he say? His little intern was here, he just had to fly by and check on him.

Aizawa's eye twitched. "Hawks. I'm in the middle of a lesson."

Hawks beamed, sitting on an extra desk- the actual desk, not the chair. "Don't mind me! I was just flying by and couldn't pass up the chance to check up on my favourite little chick! It'll be like I'm not even here."

It was not, in fact, like he wasn't there. But it wasn't his fault! Hawks just wasn't used to sitting still for so long - he was always rushing off on some mission or another - so he may have been a bit fidgety. His wings were bright red, they attracted a lot of attention - particularly from excited little hero students who'd never seen the number 3 hero up close before. Besides, Aizawa's growing exasperation was amusing.

Hawks could see Tokoyami bury his face in his hands. Stealthily, so Aizawa wouldn't notice, Hawks poked his little intern with a feather, making him jump. The chick needed to lighten up!

The feather floated slowly to the floor. Hawks blinked innocently as Aizawa glared at him, quirk activated.

"Hawks. I would appreciate it if you didn't disrupt my class. You may visit Tokoyami - outside of class time."

Hawks grinned, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly. "Of course, Eraserhead! I was just passing by and didn't really realize the time. It won't happen again!"

It happened again. And again. And again.

It got to the point where the students barely noticed him anymore. Aizawa still glared at him every time - Hawks was pretty sure he hated him by now - but he was always so busy that he latched onto any chance he could get to visit his little intern.

It always energized him to see Tokoyami. Visiting him was one of the few breaks Hawks had. He'd keep visiting, even if he did annoy Aizawa.

It was fun. It was relaxing. Hawks hoped it never changed.

Hawks could barely keep his eyes open. His head was pounding and his vision was fuzzy. He'd been running absolutely ragged these past couple days. He didn't think he'd slept since- since-

....Well, it'd been a while. But Hawks finally had a bit of free time! So naturally he was heading to visit his favourite fledgling.

He stumbled a bit on landing outside the school, but that was alright. There wasn't anyone around to see. He made his way inside, checking the time - Tokoyami'd be in homeroom right about then.

Only, his little intern wasn't in class when he got there. None of the students were. It was just him and a rather exasperated underground hero.

Awkward.

Where was Tokoyami? Was there an assembly or something? Did he get the class wrong? Was-

"Hawks."

He blinked muzzily, focusing blurrily on Aizawa. The older pro was frowning, watching him sway slightly in place.

"Are you alright?"

Huh?

"Huh? Oh, I'm fine! 'M just- looking for Tokoyami. Wrong room, my bad!" He turned to make his escape from Aizawa's oddly piercing gaze. "I'll just-"

"Stay here."

"Wh-"

"You will stay here. The class will be back in about an hour. Until then, you will stay here, and you will get some sleep." Aizawa's tone was stern, though he looked almost- concerned.

"What? No, that's not necessary!" Hawks laughed nervously. "I'm-"

"If you dare try to tell me you're fine, I will tie you in my capture scarf and drag you to Recovery Girl. You're clearly exhausted. You'll collapse if you keep pushing yourself. It isn't logical."

"I- Eraserhead, I'm-" He cut off as Aizawa's eyes narrowed dangerously. "....Staying here. Yup. I'll just... play flappy bird or something."

"You will rest. You may use my sleeping bag. There are pillows behind my desk."

Hawks balked. "I'm fine!"

Aizawa raised a single eyebrow.

Meekly, Hawks slunk over to the teacher's desk. Behind it there was indeed a pile of pillows with Aizawa's signature yellow sleeping bag. Pouting, he arranged everything into a makeshift nest.

He settled in, silently wishing for a blanket. It was a bit chilly in the classroom. Still, messy as it was, Hawks' temporary nest was surprisingly comfortable. It didn't take long before he drifted off, utterly exhausted.

"....."

Aizawa watched the young pro settle in for a moment, before sighing quietly. Hawks was exasperating and seemed to find disrupting his class amusing, but he was a good hero, and a good kid. He clearly needed a break, and visiting UA seemed to give him that. Irritating as he could be, Aizawa wouldn't deny him.

Silently, he settled his capture scarf onto the sleeping nuisance like an impromptu blanket.

"Sleep well, brat."
