Work Text:
They had decided their last year at UA that as soon as they got an apartment for themselves they were going to get a pet. At the time Izuku wanted a dog, Shouto wanted a cat, and Tenya was honestly indifferent to what type of animal it was. He just wanted a pet that was sweet and loving. The idea of having a dog always overwhelmed Shouto. They were just way too hyper, and big, and they would jump on him. They just weren’t his thing. He had always wanted a cat.
So now that they have had their own apartment for a little over two weeks, the impatient Izuku insisted that they finally go try to find their new furry friend, despite the fact they still had no clue what kind of pet they wanted.
Shouto let out a small laugh from where he was sitting on the couch next to Tenya as his other boyfriend sat on the floor (for some reason he seemed to always prefer to sit on the floor, he always claimed it was apparently more Comfortable) going on about all the reasons they should go to the shelter today and just go and “look” at the animals.
“Well, I suppose there is no reason we can’t just go and look” Tenya said with his hand in his chin clearly deep in thought.
“If we go to the shelter there is no way we are leaving without an animal. Izuku will literally fall in love with all of them and we will be bringing home 50 pets” Shouto said playfully picking on his boyfriend.
“Well, I doubt it would be fifty, but you are correct that we will most likely be bringing an animal home. Which I personally don’t have a problem with. The only two issues I can think of is that we haven’t bought the supplies yet, which we are able to do, and that we haven’t picked out which type of animal we are going to get.. which is more of an issue.” Iida said
“Well maybe we could just go there and see what animals they have and possibly decide from there” Izuku said
“I suppose it’s fine with me.. What do you think Shou?”
Shouto stayed quiet for a moment, thinking a bit, were they really ready to bring an animal into their life?
“I mean, I guess we could, but I still really don’t think a dog would be a good fit”, he said a bit awkwardly, hoping to not upset his boyfriends.
“ Yeah, honestly the more I have been thinking about it I might have to agree with Shouto. I myself do not have a preference when it comes to dogs and cats in general, but when it comes to us and our lifestyle, I think a cat might be best” Iida said softly, hoping Izuku would not be upset.

After another half an hour of discussing the situation the three of them were on the way to shelter in search of a new kitty to bring home. When they arrived at the shelter they were asked many questions about what they were looking for and what their lifestyle was like.
“Okay, well with the information you have given we have a few cats that we think would be a great fit for you guys. The first is a very sweet little kitten named Starburst, who was brought into the shelter last week, he is very playful and sweet! Would you like to meet him?” the nice worker they had been talking with asked.
Izuku nodded excitedly before they even had time to properly answer which caused Tenya and Shouto to slightly giggle at their dork of a boyfriend.
Soon the lady brought out the cat. They played with it for a while but they all agreed that they didn’t think it was the cat for them. It was rather energetic and in the short time they had it out it had bitten Tenya twice. So even though it was adorable it was definitely not the cat for them.
When the worker came back they explained that to her and asked for any other cats. They then visited three other cats and none of them seemed right. They either had behavioral issues that they would not be able to handle or they just didn’t feel much of a connection to them. They had honestly given up hope. As the worker came back in, Izuku asked her sadly if they had any other cats she thought might work. She bit her lip nervously and looked back to the room full of cat cages. “Well we do have one more, but she is pregnant with five kittens, so I am not sure if you guys would be interested.”
Izuku looked back at his boyfriend with puppy dog eyes. “Could we at least just see her?”
“I suppose..” Tenya said and Shouto just silently nodded his head. Honestly, kittens didn’t sound that bad to Shouto. Raising six little kitties could be fun and right now would be the time to do it. They were all working as sidekicks and still had more free time than they would in the future.
So when she brought the fat little tabby cat in and she flopped right on the floor in front of Midoriya requesting belly rubs he quickly jumped down there with them. Soon enough all three of them were on the floor Shouto in the middle with the cat on his lap as his boyfriends sat on either side of him petting the cat.
“So it seems we are going to have six cats?” Tenya said with a smile happily petting the cat.
“Really? You are okay with that”, Izuku asked excitedly and Shouto looked up at Tenya in shock. He honestly thought it would be hard to convenience Iida to get the sweet little cat. Even though it was obvious he loved that cat, he was the one who made the practical decisions. And this definitely wasn’t a practical decision, but it seemed like this was the one they were making.
“What do you think Shouto?” Tenya asked, bringing him out of his thoughts.
“I really like her”, He said as he petted her little head, “It is a big commitment, but I really think she is meant to be ours, plus this seems like the best time to adopt her”.
“So that settles it, We are bringing her home!” Izuku said excitedly.
When the worker came back they happily said they wanted her. The worker seemed shocked yet excited. “Alright, I will just grab the paperwork.” She said as she left the room, leaving the three to continue getting to know their newest family member.
