Work Text:
As lazy as Dazai portrayed himself to be and as lazy as he actually was most of the time, there were plenty of instances that proved otherwise. When a case – or a job back in his mafia days – was particularly important or close to his heart, he wouldn’t stop working on it until it was over and done. This resulted in sleepless nights, tiredness and even deeper depression than the dark thoughts that usually plagued his mind.
However, Dazai being Dazai, always found the best solutions, thought of the best plans so everyone just let him be. Everyone except Chuuya that is.
Chuuya could always tell when Dazai went beyond his actual limit. The short mafia executive was the only one brave enough to tell Dazai when he needed to stop. And the only one Dazai would listen to.
It wasn’t even necessary for Chuuya to keep a constant watch over Dazai for him to know when to intervene. The Detective Agency had been more active than usually in the last few days and Chuuya knew exactly who stood behind their actions. And so, when the clock struck 3am, Chuuya broke into Dazai apartment only to find the other man hunched over stacks of files, reports and Yokohama map marked with colorful pins.
“Go to bed,” Chuuya said. It showed exactly how exhausted Dazai was when he noticed his ex-partner’s presence only after he spoke.
“What are you doing here?”
“I’m sending you to bed, you dummy. You need rest."
Dazai’s eyes darted between Chuuya and his plans. Still, clearly hesitating Dazai didn’t even move a muscle.
“Sleep. I will take care of it,” Chuuya promised. “The mafia is working on the same case. We have the same intel. You’ve made a lot of progress and if you weren’t so tired, you would know by now that the best plan of action is to send Atsushi with Tanizaki to perform a slightly modified version of our Stormy Night in Lover's Chamber.”
Dazai’s mouth fell open when he realized Chuuya was right. It most definitely was the best plan. Chuuya rolled his eyes and stepped closer. He put both of his hands on Dazai’s shoulers.
“See, I know what to do. Give me your phone so I can text them and order them around in your stead, like we did in the past. You get some rest! If anything unexpected comes up, I’ll wake you.”
Finally, Dazai slumped, muscles relaxed.
“I trust you not to sell us out to mafia.”
“Same case, remember? It’s even better for us when your Agency takes care of it. Tanizaki’s power is more suiting to the task they need to perform.”
“Heh, don’t pretend to be clever, chibi, it doesn’t suit you.”
“Yeah, yeah, go to sleep!” Chuuya repeated for what felt like 10th time and for once Dazai listened. Passing Chuuya he placed a quick kiss on the shorter mans lips.
“Thanks, partner.”
