As Long As We're Together

Summary:

In which it would be the first New Year that Sarawat and Tine spend together, but Tine ends up feeling sick, preventing them from going out to celebrate as expected. However, Sarawat, who couldn't bear to see his boyfriend sad and feeling guilty for making them have to stay at home during the occasion, tried his best to make sure that even in that circumstance, they had a special night in the end.

Notes:

hi beautiful people 🤍 so, well, I planned to post this fic in new year's eve, but I've worked so hard writing this story that now that everything's done, I can't really wait to post it. I've been writing sarawatine fanfictions nonstop since june, and from then there wasn't a single month that I didn't posted at least one, so I worked so hard on this one here because it's the last of the year and I wanted to finish this year with something special and lives up to these too, because even though 2020 was a tough year, if there was something good that happened to me, it was 2gether and sarawatine; they're the only thing that brought me happiness during this hard time, and that's why with this work here is my 22th 2gether story, because writing about them comforts me in a way anything else more do. so, if you're reading this, feel that way about them too, have read some of my works and felt at least a little bit comforted, I'll be extremely happy and all the hours I spent writing will be more worth it than if it was spent only to comfort myself. also, I never wrote anything so long, but as the last story of 2020, I tried to do something special for you, so I hope that, from the bottom of my heart, you'll enjoy this not so little thing. sorry for talking so much, now you are free to go and read the story itself * laughs *. good reading 🤍

Work Text:

Plan, according to google, means "an intention or decision about what one is going to do." Tine is the type of person who likes to plan in detail what to do because for him, this way the chances of something going wrong are slim.

But things don't always happen that way, because if there was one thing that he hadn't planned on, it was being home, feeling sad and miserable, during the last moments of the last day of december, also known as New Year's Eve.

The apartment was dark and silent, and thanks to the lights of the city and the stars shining softly in the sky, it was possible to see in the only room of the place, on the bed that was there, the figure of a boy lying and huddled like a small ball, almost disappearing under the fluffy duvet.

Tine could say that he was laying on this position only because of the stomachache he was feeling, but then it would be a lie. The main reason why he was shrunk as if he wanted to disappear was because he was sad to ruin the special night he had so longed to have with Sarawat.

Sarawat, who was away from home less than an hour before the turn of the year, and not because he was celebrating somewhere, but because he was looking for a drugstore to buy medicine for his partner.

Thinking about it, Tine grunted, couldn't helping but thinking that it was his fault. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes, paying attention to the noises of the world out there, which basically summed up in vehicles being quickly drove on the city streets.

Everyone is already on their way to celebrate and party except me and Wat, the boy thought frustratedly.

Before the aspiration of thoughts continued to swirl in his mind, Tine heard footsteps, then deducing it was Sarawat coming home, he forced himself to get out of bed. When he reached his bedroom door he could see just when the other boy unlocked the front one and entered the house with a plastic bag on his hand.

Sarawat was looking down while he took off his shoes and kept the house key in his back pocket, and when he finished he looked up, frowning when he saw the image of a sulky Tine leaning against the doorframe. "Ei, why aren't you in bed?"

"I was, but then I got up to see if you were coming home."

"Well, here I'm. How are you feeling?" Sarawat asked, smiling a little, while leaving the plastic bag on the table and then approached Tine.

"Uhh..." Tine grunted and bite his lips. "I'm fine. I'm not vomiting anymore and my stomach is hurting less."

The older boy sighed and raised his hand to lovingly caress the other's hair. "Nuisance, you don't need to lie to me. I can see in your face you're not well."

"I'm not lying, Wat. I'm fine. It always happens when the boys and I do food evaluation, it's normal. My stomach is just a bit sensible."

"I don't understand why you guys went to this disgusting place and ate that bizarre food. In the picture you send me it looked like you were eating a melted shoe soles instead of porridge. No normal stomach could take that filth."

"I already told you. Phuak always wanted to go to this place but coulnd't go before his exchange program, so Ohm had the idea to go to there and record a vlog evaluating the food, so we could send it to Phuak as his birthday gift that is in a few days."

"You guys really share only one brain cell. Instead of giving him a normal gift you decided it would be better to poison yourself with food that tastes like dirty socks." Sarawat said with a hint of fun in his voice and shook his head.

"I think dirty socks would taste like a banquet if compared to whatever the hell that porridge tasted." The younger let out and both boys laughed a bit before Tine felt a sharp stomach pain and instinctively put a hand on his belly.

"Tine?" Sarawat let out with exasperation, automatically holding his shoulder and putting a hand on his belly too. "Are you okay? I brought you medicine, it's here on the table. Come here to take it."

Closing his eyes for a second and then deep sighing, Tine shook his head. "I'm better, Wat. It was nothing."

"You're feeling pain, so it is something."

"It was nothing." Tine repeated, trying to sound convincing but already feeling his stomach starting to roll, announcing the retching. "And I really think we could totally go to the beach and meet our friends there. We don't need to spend the New Year at home because of a silly stomachache."

"Baby, it's not a silly stomachache. You can't belittle what you're feeling."

"But Wat!" Tine said in a frustrated tone, trying to ignore the bile taste spreading in his mouth. "We planned this celebration almost two months ago, everything was already prepared. It's not fair to screw it up because of me. I can really take the pain, it's not like I'm super sick. I want to go, Wat."

"Nuisance, I understand you love the beach and were excited to go to there and see the fireworks with our friends, but how could you enjoy it there if you're feeling sick?"

"I'm not feeling si-" Tine tried to say, but in the next moment he felt the burning of the reflux rapidly rising up his throat, so he quickly ran to the bathroom and the moment he lifted the lid off the toilet, he started to vomit.

It didn't took long to the kneen boy feel another presence in the small room, and a second later he felt Sarawat on his knees behind him, his hands caressing his back gently.

"Shh, you're fine. Just put everything out." Sarawat whispered and kept running his palm comforting down his spine, as well as leaving some soft kisses on his shoulder.

They stayed like this for a few minutes before Tine started to get up, feeling a little better. He lowered the lid of the toilet and flushed it, then moved to the sink to wash his mouth, not saying a word during the process and avoiding Sarawat's gaze, feeling a bit ashamed for for being seen in such a vulnerable situation.

Sill avoiding the other guy's eyes, Tine murmured with a fragile voice. "I'm sorry you saw this. It's disgusting."

Sarawat, who was watching him with precaution, stepped close and gently turned Tine so they could face each other. "You're my partner and I'll always have your back, ok? There's nothing nothing disgusting when it comes to you and nothing would stop me from taking care of you. Now, let's go to the kitchen so you can take your medicine, ok? You'll be better, my love." He reassured and hugged the quiet boy for a second before guiding him out of the bathroom.

Arriving at the kitchen, Tine sat on a chair and Sarawat took the pill pack out of the bag, grabbed a glass of water, then went back to sit beside Tine, handing the latter what he needed.

After swallowing the pill and empty the glass, Tine looked pouty at Sarawat. "It wasn't because of the beach, fireworks or our friends." He said in a low voice.

"What?"

Tine sighed. "You said you understood I was excited to go to the celebration as we planned because I love the beach and wanted to see the fireworks with our friends, and you think I'm upset because of this, but it's not."

"Why are you upset then?" Sarawat gently asked, holding Tine's hand that was poking the table anxiously.

"Because..." Tine looked away for a second like he was trying to get courage, then looked at Sarawat again. "I do like the beach, and also like being with our friends, but I'm upset that things didn't happened as we planned because I wanted today to be special for the two of us. Because it's... it's our first New Year together. It was supposed to be special."

Sarawat frowned. "Wait... you're saying you're upset not because you'll miss the celebration with the guys in a nice place, but actually because you think our first New Year together won't be special if we spend it at home?"

"Yes? There's nothing special about staying at home taking care of a sick person. If you say yes, I'm really willing to go, Wat. This malaise don't need to disturb our night, please." Tine pratically begged and he could feel his voice starting to shake.

Letting go of Tine's hand, Sarawat leaned and touched their foreheads in the same time as he placed his hands on both of the boy's cheeks. "Tine, baby, listen to me. You're the most important person in the world to me, your health and well-being will always be my priority, and they are more valuable than any celebration, okay? You're not feeling well and the beach is far from the city, so what if we go and you get worse there, if you pass out or something? I can't risk it. Here we're five minutes away from the hospital, so it's safer to stay. You understand me, right?"

If there's something that Tine truly dislike about himself was his lack of capacity of hiding what he's feeling. At that moment, even after listening to what Sarawat said, he couldn't help but feel bad about messing with their plans, so he soon started to sniff and pout, feeling his eyes getting wetter than the normal.

Sarawat noticed Tine's emotions overflowing trough his features and felt his heart hurt seeing that sad face. Sadness, he thought, doesn't fit with my nuisance. Call him sappy, but for him what hurts most in the world is seeing his other half, his partner, his love, suffering. After a second, he leaned to press a soft kiss on his lover forehead. "Nuisance, everything's okay. I'm not mad, I'm not disaponted. I just want you to get better, that's really all I care about now. We can celebrate like we planned in the next year."

Tine nodded, feeling proud of himself for not letting any tear drop. "I'm sorry we'll have to celebrate locked in the apartment instead of somewhere else. But I really understand you for not wanting us to go to the beach. I just wanted for us to have a different and special night."

After saying that, Tine hugged Sarawat, who hugged him back but didn't said anything, what was strange. They embraced each other for a while, then Tine gently pushed the other away so he could suggest they go to bed or on the couch, but when he saw Sarawat's face, he frowned. "What?"

The musician's face was furrowed in concentration, and he was also biting his lower lip, a habit he has when he's thoughtful. "Tine." He started slowly, like he was finishing organizing his ideas. "You had already separated clothes to wear today, right?"

"Uh, yes?"

"Could you put them, please?"

"Wat, what?" Tine asked confused. "I really understand that we can't go to the-"

"Nuisance, please." Sarawat interrupted him. "Do you trust me?"

"More than anyone in the world."

"So do what I'm telling you, ok? Are you dizzy to change your clothes? I can help you."

"No, I'm fine. The pill is already working, and I swear this time I mean it."

"Ok, that's good. So the thing is." The older get up from the chair and held Tine's hands so he could get up too. "You go to our bedroom and dress up as you would if we went to the celebration as planned. After that, you stay in there until I ask you to get out. Deal?"

"Oh lord, what are you up to?" Tine asked curiously but he was already starting to smile.

"Wait and see." Sarawat smiled wide and leaned to quick kiss the boy in front of him.

"Ai'Wat! I puked almost now and haven't brushed my teeth!"

"I don't care. I would never be disgusted at kissing you, at any circumstances."

With that, Tine blushed and shyly smiled. "What a sappy man."

"Only for you, my dear nuisance." Sarawat blinked jokingly and Tine laughed. "Now, go to the bedroom." He said as he put his hands on the younger's shoulder to turn him to the door direction.

"Okay, okay. Going!"

"Faster or I'll slap your butt." Sarawat teased and Tine giggled, protecting his but with his hands jokingly.

Entering the room, Tine smiled when he noticed that his mood was already a little better. Of course, he was still frustrated and upset that he couldn’t properly celebrate the New Year with Sarawat, but the company of the latter, his words and caresses, the way he reassured that everything was okay, all of which meant so much that, in the end, he didn’t felt as miserable as he was before.

Love doesn't heal everything, but it makes things easier to bear. And that's exactly how Tine feels about Sarawat. Not a savior who can take all the sadness and other bad feelings out of him, but a partner who can hold his hand and help him get through everything. He knows that when everything is too much to take, his lover will be there to make everything more bearable.

And that's why Tine Teepakorn knows Sarawat Guntithanon is his one and only. The person he'll spend the rest of his life with.

Shaking his hands to stop himself from diving more into the thoughts of how lucky and happy he is to have Sarawat by his side, he took his clothes as well as his boxers and entered to the bathroom, deciding to take a shower.

The faint sound of water droplets falling from the shower and making its way through Tine's soft skin, a skin that by the way his lover has had the privilege of kissing every little part of with all the love in the world, wasn't enough to overcome the noise coming from the bedroom. Tine could hear the sound of wardrobe doors opening and closing, then the bedroom door following the same path.

When he finished showering, he put on his clothes, made his way to the bedroom and again started to hear more noises, but this time outside the room; first in Sarawat's little music studio, then in the kitchen, and he finally heard the front door opening and closing. He made a curious face but didn't even started to try to guess what was going on in there.

After fixing his hair he sat on the bed and once again he heard the front door opening, so he got up and walked to the closed one of the bedroom, pressing his ear there to try to listen something, but he only heard footsteps here and there and then the door closing again. He was starting to get a little anxious when he heard a notification sound from his cellphone, feeling great to have a distraction while Sarawat isn't done doing whatever he was doing.

Picking up his phone, he couldn't help but smirk seeing a picture of him and Sarawat as the lockscreen. He then unlocked it and was already faced with his Line chat opened, remembering he was talking to his friends a couple of hours before and updating them his situation. The new message was from the big group chat they had - his and Sarawat's merged group of friends plus his brother - and saw that the topic of the message, which leaded to a lot of more others, was himself.

Man: hey tine, aren't you and wat coming?everyone's here

Man: except for my amazing boyfriend who's still at the airport

Man: are you fine?

Man: if you're not here maybe you're not so that was a dumb question but

Boss: what happened to our little tine?

Ohm: in which world are you living boss?? tine is sick

Fong: he have been drinking since early morning because he said he's heartbroke because of a new girl he started crushing like three days ago, so he probably didn't read our texts

Man: three? I thought it was four

Ohm: why is heartbroke? did she rejected him?

Boss: she has a girlfriend

Boss: and it's been five days since I know her ok

Type: Can you all stop flooding the group? I'm annoyed with my phone ringing nonstop.

Man: sorry my love!!

Type: No.

Type: And what's this story of Tine being sick? If I find out that Sarawat isn't taking care of my little brother properly, I'll kill him.

Boss: man, who's beside me, laughed and said you can't even kill a mosquito

Man: SHUT UP BOSS

Fong: someone will sleep on the couch tonight hahaha

Type: We'll have a talk later, Man.

Type: Now, Tine?

At this point Tine was so focused laughing seeing his friends being dumb and chaotic that he forgot that the main topic of the messages, well, at least at the begining, was him.

                                         hi guys

                                         I'm feeling better

                                         thanks for asking man

wat bought some medicine for me

p'type, don't threaten my boyfriend please

                                         he's innocent, I swear haha

I'm feeling sick because I ate a strange food in bizarre place ohm and fong took me, it's nothing serious

and you're all wrong because boss fell in love with this new girl like yesterday in the morning and in the afternoon he found out about her being compromised

I forgot to say but me and wat won't go the beach guys, I'm not feeling super well and wat think it's better to stay at home. but you don't have to worry

we're sorry, but hope you guys will have fun, next year we'll join you!

The group started to be flooded with messages again, being them things like Boss complaining about everyone being insensible for mocking him, Type furious saying that he's gonna beat Ohm and Fong's ass for making his little brother get sick, and he complaining again for the amount of messages they're sending in the group (You all are at the same place, probably sitting beside each other, why the hell are you talking in the group and stressing me that much?), then everyone apologizing and wishing Tine to get better, Boss even saying that he'll fishing a fish to give it to Sarawat to make a soup for Tine, making everyone laugh and stress Type more.

Tine didn't know how much time have passed, but at the time he finished reading the messages, still laughing, Sarawat knock the bedroom door and opened it. "Ei." He smiled softly when he heard Tine's giggle. "What's so funny?"

"Nothing, just our friends being idiots in the group chat. Ah, I told them we're not going."

"Oh, ok. That's good."

"So..." Tine started, biting his lips trying not to smile. "Are you done?"

"Yes, sir!" Sarawat saluted jokingly, making Tine laugh, so he laughed too.

"And where are we going?"

"I won't tell you, you'll have to see." Sarawat responded and grabbed Tine's hands, but the latter didn't get up from the bed. "What's wrong?"

"You told me to get dressed, so you have to change your clothes too."

"Do I have too?"

"Waaat." Tine whined. "If I'm wearing New Year's clothes you should too."

"I'm kidding, nuisance. I know." The musician petted Tine's head. "But I bet you're only asking me to change my clothes so you can see me almost naked." He teased.

"Why would I? It's not like there's something new to see, I have seen every part of your naked body thousand times already." Tine teased back.

"Oi, what a sassy nuisance."

Both boys laughed and Sarawat started to get undressed. When he turned to pick up his clothes, Tine surpased a smile and slaped his boyfriend's butt.

"Tine!" Sarawat almost screamed in surprise.

"Sorry, couldn't help myself."

"Such a nuisance." Sarawat tried to sound annoyed but his wide smile betrayed him.

A couple more of minutes later, which were spend in a comfortable silence, and Sarawat was done. He turned to Tine, who was still sitting on the bed, and leaned down to kiss the top of his head. "Are you feeling better?"

"I've lost count of how many times I heard that question today." Tine joked. "But I'm. Let's go?" He said excitedly.

Sarawat smiled again and noded, then took a step back and pulles Tine's hand, whom this time raised. They faced each other with silly smiles and eyes full of love, then Sarawat looked away at the watch on his wrist and sarted to say. "It’s not long before midnight, so come on."

As if sensing that Tine would ask where they were going, Sarawat gave the boy a quick kiss and then gave a nod, as if showing with the act the certainty of everything would be alright and soon Tine would know what he planned. The latter sighed and noded too, words not being necessary to demonstrate the mutual trust they both had towards each other.

With their palms touching and fingers intertwined, both boys feeling like their hands fits perfectly, like they were meant to complete each other as if they were a puzzle, they made their way out of their little love nest. As they walked through the building's corridors, they exchanged silent looks, small smiles never leaving their lips.

When they started up flights of stairs, Tine looked confusedly at Sarawat, wondering where they might be going, but remained silent, knowing that if he asked him, he wouldn't answer. The latter didn't looked back, but considering that he had a playful smile on the corner of his lips, Tine suspected that he knew he must be confused.

During the climb up the steps, the only thing Sarawat did was to let go of Tine's hand and hold his arms around his waist, as if guaranteeing that Tine wouldn't fall down the stairs. Of course he's still worried about me, the younger thought, laughing quietly.

"We're almost there." Sarawat whispered in Tine's ear, which made him shriver from toe to head, and noded, even though after hearing that voice all he wanted was to press his man on some wall and kiss him until their lips got numb.

His thoughts were disturbed by a sound he couldn't say of what was, but it seemed like it was coming somewhere not too far from where they were.

So a few more steps and finally they stopped in front of a door, not a wooden one like an apartment but an apparently tin door. Sarawat positioned himself behind Tine and covered his eyes with one hand, gripped the door handle with the other and released his husky voice in his lover's ear again. "Ready?"

Tine took a deep breath and answered happily, because he knew whatever he was about to see he would love, because was made by Sarawat for him, made with nothing but pure love. "Yes, love. I'm ready."

With his affirmation, Sarawat carefully opened the door and the hand that was on the door's handle went to Tine's waist, gently pushing forward to make the boy take a step. When he crossed the door line and entered the place, the first thing he felt was a soft wind blowing on his face, as if he were being lovingly caressed by the light breeze. The next thing was the sound he listened seconds before. There, behind the door he couldn't know what sound it was, but now he could.

He was listening to waves. Ocean waves.

The first thing that passed through his mind was that Sarawat discovered a magic door capable of taking them to places they wanted only by stepping inside it, and he almost let out a giggle because of the silly though.

However, he didn't had time to think about what more it could be, because in the next moment Sarawat took his hand off Tine's face, and the latter could see where they were.

They weren't at the beach, and the door wasn't magical after all. Apparently, it was a door to a open terrace, but not a normal one. The place wasn't empty like it probably was during the most of the time. First, Tine noticed that the concrete parapet was decorated with long fairy lights, covering not only the parapet in front of them but also the ones on the sides. In the space between the door and the building where the lights were, Tine could see sheets comfortably laid on the floor, and some cushions completed the view, carefully placed on the cloth nest that lay there.

Amazed with what he was seeing, Tine took another step forward and almost tripped on something, and when he looked down thinking it was a rock, he saw a shell there instead. Not only one, actually, but a lot of shells, beautifully decorating the space beside the improvised nest on the floor. Also, looking to the side, he noticed two medium speaker boxes, being them the source of the waves sound he was listening, and automatically recognizing them as Sarawat's. And finally, a small wooden stool that they have more for decoration than for utility, with on the top of it two glasses, as well as a jar containing a kinda of golden yellow liquid.

When he finished looking detailed at every single thing there was to be seen, Tine felt his mouth open in surprise, and he was probably looking like a fool with that expression, but he just didn't care. His heart was racing, each beat seemed to hurt from the love he was feeling, so without even bothering to change his features, he turned and looked at Sarawat, who was standing with a shy smile playing on his lips.

He was wearing white clothes, his hair was being messed by the night breeze and the clarity of the fairy lights illuminated him delicately, and at that moment, looking at that ethereal figure in front of him, Tine could only think that he had never loved anyone so much in his life. And that he will never do, because that man, smiling at him as if he were the most sacred thing in the world, was the owner of his heart. Not only of the heart, but of every fiber of his body, as well as his soul.

So there, in that moment, feeling like his heart was going to explode with love, Tine was more sure than ever that Sarawat was his other half, and he knew he would go to the end of the world just to be able to live each day of his life by that man's side.

Feeling overwhelmed with love, Tine sniffed and almost threw himself on his lover, wrapping his arms around his neck and sinking his face in there, smelling the smell that he couldn't define as anything else but the smell of home

Sarawat laughed and wrapped his arms around Tine's shoulders, lightly lullyng their bodies and peppering soft kisses on the exposed skin between his shoulder and neck.

They stayed like this for a while before Sarawat gently pushed Tine alway so they could talk, but never taking his hands off the boy. "So.... surprise!" He smiled a bit shyly. "Well, you planed to spend our first new year together on the beach because you wanted it to be special, but since we couldn't go to the beach, I kinda of brought the beach here. I know it's simple and not too much, but it's something." He finished saying and scratched the back of his neck nervously.

"Wat." Tine whined with a adorable pout on his lips. "It's not simple, it's... it's perfect. I mean it."

"So, you really liked?" Sarawat asked, trying not to sound too insecure.

"Sarawat." Tine said and softly held Sarawat's face with his hands. "I loved it. Loved. It's really perfect."

The musician turned his face and kissed Tine's palm. "I'm happy you liked. Come here." He then took his hand and pulled him to sit on the covers that were on the floor. They sat there, side by side arms around each other's waist, bodies almost merging of so much closeness.

"How do you had this idea?" Tine asked, almost humming because of how comfortable he was feeling there, sitting on soft sheets and pillows, feeling the cool of the night on his skin and, most importantly, being in the arms of the man he loves.

"Hmm." Sarawat grunted and placed a soft kiss on Tine's soft cheek, making the latter smile wide. "I don't know, it just click in my mind. You were sad because we couldn't go the beach, and I knew that I could guarantee to you a milion of times that I definitely wouldn't mind spending the New Year at our apartment, and you wouldn't listen to me. So I thought that I should do something instead of staying at home. I mean, we're kinda of still at home because this is a part of our building, but yes."

Tine shook his head in disbelief. "And how do you know this place? And how could you set everything so fast? Also, how could you think about every detail?" He asked excitedly, wanting to know everything about Wat's surprise for him.

"I first thought of decorating our balcony, but it would still be inside of our home technically, so I remembered that once the porter told me something about a terrace where residents came more to smoke, but since most of the residents today are younger people, the place was kind of abandoned. I had forgotten about it until then."

"We've been living here for months and I had no idea of this place." Tine said and looked around for a second. "It's a nice place, we should come here more after today."

"We definitely should." Sarawat agreed. "And about the decoration, well, it's nothing complex. We would go to the beach, so the first thing I thought was to pick the speakers and put on the sound of the ocean. I know you love it. Then I thought that if we were there, we would probably be sitting on the sand, but well, it's almost midnight of New Year's Eve, so there wasn't a place or time to get real sand. If it was earlier I would have drove to the beach and filled the car trunk with sand, you know." Sarawat said jokingly, even though both knew he would definitely do that, and poked Tine's waist, who giggled. "So I found these beige covers and cushion covers. They clearly don't have the same texture of sand grain but for now they will have to do. About the shells, uh, the last time we went to the beach you picked a lot of them so we could put them in a glass bottle and decore our living room, but we never did, so I remembered they were still in a plastic bag inside of our closet and I decided to put them around the covers since, well... shells are in the sand."

"I would never have thought about these things in so little time like you did, baby." Tine sounded amused and proud.

"Our brain works in the way we can't understand when there's danger, that's why I was able to do this all so fast." Sarawat said with a fun smile.

"What was the danger though?"

"Seeing my baby being sad."

With that, Tine blushed and gently bumped his shoulder on Sarawat's. "Argh, sappy saraleo. But there's still things left to explain."

"Yeah, right. Uh, the fairy lights? At the beginning I thought of putting them just to make the vibe more relaxing and because it's pretty, I mean, it was very nice when I put them that day I surprised you on your birthday, but them I remembered that the beach we would go, usually have some boats at sea that leave their headlights on on holiday dates to decorate the it there, so I put the fairy lights on because if we were on the beach, we would be watching spots of light just as we are now."

A gust of wind ran through them, making them both shrink and get closer, now in addition to arms, their legs were also entwined. After that, Tine broke the silence of seconds. "You're amazing, Sarawat Guntithanon. Strangely, eccentrically, intelligently and exceptionally amazing."

"I wanna see what more you'll think about me when I explain you what's in there." Sarawat laughed and pointed at the drink on the small wood stool.

"Oh dear Buddha, if you say that it's pee because in the night of New Year's Eve people drink too much and end up peeing on bottles since there's no bathroom on the beach, I'll vomit again." Tine joked, faking a dramatic expression.

"How did you get it right?" Said Sarawat, faking a shocking face and joining in the joke.

"This boyfriend of yours here is the smartest, that's why." Tine laughed and his partner joined.

"No, but seriously. Usually people drink champagne in this time of the year, so I was thinking of myself which drink we had that would look more like champagne and I found this yellow tea in the kitchen cupboard."

"But," Tine stared confused at the drink and then looked to Sarawat again. "There's bubbles on the tea, and there's no tea with bubbles..."

"I, uh..." Sarawat said with a mischievous smile. "I may or may not have mixed sparkling water in the tea."

"You... you did what?" Tine almost yelled and started laughing, his body shaking with each giggle he let out. "Ai'Wat, you're so- haha, so crazy!"

"The main characteristic of champagne is bubbles, so how could I imitate that drink if I didn't find a way for our imitation to have bubbles too? Admit, I was smart!" He answered, laughing too.

"Yes, yes, you were, I must admit. But Wat, why didn't you did that with beer instead? You don't like tea."

"Because you took pills and can't drink alcohol. If you can't, I won't too."

Damn, I love him so much, Tine thought and coulnd't help but pout. "Ai'Wat." He whined and pecked his partner's lips lovingly. "You're the best. Thank you."

"Everything for you, love." Sarawat kissed Tine's temple. "Oh, before I could forget!" He said and got up, walked to next to where the speakers were and quickly came back holding a small bucket. "You said you were better, but I just brought this thing here for precaution, you know, in the case you feel like vomiting again."

Being surprised by the countless times that night, Tine didn't even know how to react to each new revelation. Not that he didn't know how careful Sarawat is, but seeing him there, thinking carefully about every detail to make him feel better, Tine felt like the most privileged person in the world for having the chance to be loved by this man. As well as for loving him.

The stoop up boy left the buckle there next to them and when he bent down to sit, he thought twice and lay on his side instead, looking at the boy next to him, who automatically imitated him.

Tine intertwined their legs again and approached Sarawat, their faces now so close that their breaths mingled as if they were one. They didn't said anything for a second, so the only sounds that could be heart were the relaxing mix of the night breeze and the ocean waves coming from the speakers.

He closed his eyes for a second, feeling so at peace, and opened them a second later. He then raised his hand and started to caress Sarawat's hair gently, then moved the tip of his fingers delicately through the other guy's face, contouring his eyebrows with his thumb, then caressing the cheek with the back of his hand, then migrating to his lover's delicate nose, touching as delicately with the tip of his index finger as if such a thing were extremely delicate, and then it arrived to his lips.

The beautiful, soft lips that have kissed each part of his body both fervently as well as gently. Then, running his thumb gently over those lips for a moment, Tine soon leaned and instead of exploring that part with his fingers, he explored with his mouth. His tongue. His teeth. In any way, because he could.

The kiss was soft and didn't lasted long, so when they parted their lips, both boys looked at each other intensely. "Wat." Tine murmured. "My Wat."

"Just and all yours." Sarawat confirmed.

"Thank you for all of this. For thinking about everything and taking care of me. I'm so grateful for this, you're always so thoughtful. I wish I could be like this too. And I'm sorry that you had the disturb make this all because of me instead of being out there having fun."

"But Tine, you're. You may not notice, but you take care of me too, but in your ways. You always pick on me to eat right and even learned to cook green curry just to please me. You practised for hours non-stop for a week just to be able to audition for the music club again, so that people would have no way to insult and defame me saying that I let you join the club because we're boyfriends. Last year you also practiced so hard to replace me at the music festival when I hurt my wrist, and just because you wanted to prove you were enough for me. When I left to P'Dim's house, you helped me packing my bag because you were worried I would forget something important. You planned a beautiful surprise for me on our one year anniversary, even though things didn't go the way we planned. You wrote a whole song about me! Besides that, whenever I end up hurt at soccer games, you almost die of worry and always take care of me, pampering me even though you're angry at me for getting hurt. You take care of me in your own way, and I take care of you in mine. In the end, we take care of each other and that's all that matters to me. "

Sarawat made a pause, took a breath and kept talking. "So please, don't let this little head of yours make you believe that making this and being here with you instead of being at the beach is a disturb because it's not. You sacrificed things for me as I sacrifice for you, and to be extremely sincere being here, on this terrace instead of being on the beach is no sacrifice, because I'm with you, and at your side I'll always be satisfied and happy."

The moment Sarawat stopped speaking, Tine started to smile nonstop and then he let out a laughed, a sound that could be described as a mix of happiness and disbelief.

"Ei, what are you laughing at? I just opened my heart to you and that's what I receive in return, huh?" Sarawat asked hiding a smirk as he started getting up slightly to be then be able to lie down on Tine'a torso.

"No, your silly." Tine pinched Wat's cheek and leaned to leave a kiss on his forehead. "I'm not laughing at you. I'm actually happy to know that you feel loved by me and you understand my ways to show I care about you. I laughed at the last thing you said."

"What thing?"

"About being satisfied and happy only by being by my side. I mean, we're so different in personality but so alike when it comes to being sappy, because I feel exactly the same way. I did wanted today to be special because it's our first new year together and I was excited to go to the beach because I wanted you to have fun, not because I really wanted to specifically be there. So when you say it would be better not to go, I got upset not because I thought that staying at home with you wouldn't be good or special, but because I thought you deserved better. But now I realize that it doesn't matter the place, today would be special for you anyways because it's our first time celebrating this day together and that's what's special about tonight, not the place we're. I mean, earlier I thought I had ruined our day and was feeling miserable because of this, but I'm here now with you and I'm happy. Happy that we're spending tonight here and I would be happy if we were spending where we first planned. Now I realized I would be happy anywhere because you would be there by my side and you're what brings the happiness to me."

"Tine, Tine." Sarawat murmured and raised his head a little to leave a lovingly kiss on Tine's chin. "You didn't ruined anything. You could never. I told you earlier and will tell you again, even though now you finally got it: I really wouldn't care if we were spending tonight inside of your home, because I would be spending this special night with me special person anyways. But it did wanted to make something special because I thought you deserved something better. In the end we would be good anyway and anywhere."

"Yeah." Tine agreed. "But because of this little miscommunication you arranged this place and Wat, being honest, it's perfect. Tonight is being different from what I thought it would be but it's actually better. We're alone, talking, enjoying our company and in a cool place you arranged for us. I couldn't think of a better way to finish this year. It's just so..."

"So us." Sarawat completed.

"Exactly, it's so us. And I love it."

"Me too, Tine." Sarawat let out and kissed Tine's chin softly one more time, before sitting up and the standing.

"Ei, where you going?" Tine asked confused, unsatisfied for not having his lover laying on the top of him anymore.

"We still have a few minutes before midnight, so there's still time to celebrate." The older one said and walked over to the wooden stool, picking it up and taking it close to them. When he set the stool down again, he sat down next to Tine, looking at him with a mischievous smile. "Would you accept a glass of champagne, sir?"

Shaking his head in disbelief, Tine laughed at Sarawat, joining the play. "Of course I would, dear man. It looks delicious."

"And it really is. It's a very fine champagne, extremely expensive and rare because it's the creation of an very excellent man." Sarawat kept joking, faking a more thicker and chic voice while taking the bottle on the stool and filling a glass with the liquid, handing it Tine.

"Thank you so much." The younger made an exaggerated bow, and while the other boy filled his own glass, he tried to contain a laugh. "Who's this very excellent man responsible for this... eccentric drink creation? Maybe I know him."

Finishing serving and placing the bottle in the stool again, Sarawat snuggled up next to Tine before continuing the talking. "His name is Mr. Guntithanon."

"Yeah, I've heard something about this man. I know that he has a very handsome boyfriend." Tine smiled funnily.

"He does. Lucky man this Mr. Guntithanon." They both laughed.

"Ok, serious now. At three we have a sip, deal?" Tine asked.

"Fine. Let's go. Three. Two. One."

With that, Tine drank the drink and grimaced slightly when he tasted the liquid. However, seeing that Sarawat had not drunk, and instead was looking at him playfully, he pushed the glass away from his mouth. "Ai'Wat! You cheated!"

Sarawat kept laughing and raised a hand in surrender. "Sorry, I just didn't wanted to miss your reaction."

"Argh, saraleo!"

A few more laughs later, Sarawat took the glass to his mouth and took a sip of the drink. "Hmm, delicious." He tried to make a satisfied face.

"Uhum, I could see it from your face." Tine teased and giggled.

"Okay, no more drinks for now. So, what about playing guitar?"

"But you didn't brought a guitar, Wat."

Turning a little back, Sarawat took some cushions out of place and took the guitar that was hidden there. "Who said no, huh?"

Tine let out a surprise single laugh. "Why did you hide it?"

"To surprise you. I figured ending the year with someone doing a Scrubb serenade for you would be a nice surprise."

Pouting for what seemed like a millionth time, Tine leaned to embrace Sarawat quickly but softly. "It would. I definitely wanna hear you serenading Scrubb for me." He tried to surpass the wide smile on his lips.

Sarawat petted Tine's head for a second, smiling at him, then moved the guitar a few times until it was in the right position on his lap. "So, what song do you want me to play?"

Tine thought for a moment. At that point, he already considered scrubb songs as a kind of soundtrack to his relationship with Sarawat; each song of the band was heard by them together during countless special moments, so it was difficult to choose one for that specific one. He pursed his lips and looked forward for a second, noticing the fairy lights, which at that moment reminded him of the birthday surprise that Sarawat did for him, and remembering the happiness that was that day, he knew which song to choose. "What about Eternal Love?"

"Great choice." Sarawat said satisfied and looked away from Tine for a second, he stared at the guitar while delicately started strumming the strings. Then he looked at his lover again, and with that the melody of the music started to invade the place.

I send my heart to yours, our hands holding each other

Looking into each other’s eyes, we understand, there’s no need to say a word

Sarawat started singing, soft voice mixing with the delicate song of the guitar.

We walk arm-in-arm, we pass love to each other

Please don't lay your eyes on someone else, I'm here close to you.

I'm full of love towards you

Their eyes were shining looking at each other, soft smiles playing on their lips, and in the next part, a second voice joined the one who was singing alone, as if to reassure that the lyrics had meaning for the both of them.

I wish the love that happens would last forever

I wish the love that happens would be an eternal love

I wish the love that happens would last forever

I wish the love that happens would be an eternal love

Nights change as days pass by, time changes

Our love will definitely be steady, it will not change

Our hearts are merged into one

There will never be the day that we are apart from each other

Tine, while still singing along with Sarawat, put a hand on the latter's knee and gave it a gentle squeeze. He felt the breeze hitting their bodies and messing their hair, but didn't felt cold because it was like at the moment, their bodies were being embraced by a bubble of heat caused by the love for each other that was radiating from every pore of their bodies.

I'm full of love towards you

He was so happy.

I wish the love that happens would last forever

I wish the love that happens would be an eternal love

I wish the love that happens would last forever

I wish the love that happens would be an eternal love

They finished singing the last words, and even after their voice were no longer part of the local symphony of noises, Sarawat continued to strum the delicate strings that made a comforting sound for a few more seconds. When he stopped, he put the guitar aside carefully. "Liked?"

"Loved. As always." Tine responded, feeling overwhelmed with pure love. They stared at each other in silence for a second, then he lay down on the sheets again and raised a hand in a gesture calling for Sarawat. "Come here, love."

As expected, Sarawat promptly obeyed the request, then lay down carefully on Tine's chest, just as they were before they sat down to drink and sing.

Tine put a arm around Sarawat's body, and for a moment he looked up, at the infinite stars that were currently illuminating them delicately. At that moment, only they were having the privilege to observe, from above, two souls loving each other in the purest possible way.

"Admiring the stars?" Sarawat asked, with a hoarse voice.

"Yes. I like to do that, they're so beautiful, it's hard not to admire." Tine answered, taking one last look at that vastness of the cosmos before looking down and facing sarawat again.

"You're more beautiful and worth admiring than any of them."

Tine rolled his eyes, but sharing mutual smirks with the sappy man on top of him.

They didn't said a single word, it wasn't needed, so they just lay there, this time only listening to the sea waves spreading calmly trough the place and the far but audible noises of the tree leaves shaking softly down on the streets because of the wind.

But then, a moment later, they started to hear loud voices, people celebrating and screams that seemed like a countdown.

"Sarawat!" Tine almost screamed, eyes wide open. "What time is it?"

Raising his hand so he could look at this watch, Sarawat bite his lips and looked nervously at Tine. "It's, uh, 11:59 p.m."

"Holy shit!" Tine said and quickly got up, making Sarawat, who was laying on top of him, fall on his back.

"Tiiine."

Ten. They heard people screaming the final countdown.

"Sorry, sorry. Come here." Tine held Sarawat's hand to try to lift him up but ended up falling too.

Nine.

"Shit." Both yelled together, trying to get up again.

Eight

"Come on, Wat, we can't miss the fireworks!"

Seven.

"Got it, got it." Sarawat said when he stood up, just a second after Tine.

Six.

"We made it!" Tine said happily as he reached the parapet and held out a hand for Sarawat to hold.

Five

He was walking to there when he remembered something. "The fake champagne make a toast, Tine!"

Four

Running back, he held the glasses while Sarawat took the jar.

Three

Tine just reached the parapet again when he saw Sarawat tripping in a shell, spilling tea on his clothes and also on Tine's.

Two.

Recomposing himself, Sarawat finally reached his partner's side and quickly poured the liquid into the glasses, just filling it up since there was already drink in there that was put in before they started playing guitar and singing, but in the rush more drink fell into the concrete structure than into the glass objects.

One

Both boys held their glasses, hugged the other's waist with their free arm and looked at each other. Then in the next second, the show started.

"Happy new year!" Was what hundreds of people around the area screamed, but was also what Sarawat and Tine screamed together while looking at each other with big smiles, and at that moment they could only hear their voices.

"Happy new year, Wat!" Tine whished again and raised his glass.

"Happy new year, Tine!" Sarawat said and raised his glass too, making a toast, drinking and then looking forward, as well as Tine, to enjoy the world celebrating in front of them.

The previous darkness of the sky, which only stars prevent the pitch from spreading completely, was now being painted by dozens of different and brilliant colors. In every direction you could see what appeared to be wires sneaking through the sky until it reached its peak and then exploding in an immensity of sparkles, like a star exploding to give rise to a supernova. Fireworks of different colors were mixed in the painting that was now the sky, making it difficult to distinguish which colors formed when they were mixed.

A brilliant show that took place only once in year, and the two lovers were finally able to enjoy it together.

The show went on, but even so Sarawat looked away, having the dazzle of watching a Tine with lips parted in excitement like a kid, and his eyes were shining beautifully as they reflected the lights that overtook the sky.

Feeling the urge to look at something that mattered more than the fireworks, Tine also looked away, and smiled contently when he saw Sarawat already looking at him.

Even after looking away from the bright sky, Tine's eyes were shining, just like Sarawat's. It's something they noticed but never said out loud; the fact that whenever they looked at each other, their eyes seemed to be replaced by whole galaxies.

Tine smiled wide and wrapped his arms around Sarawat's neck just like he did earlier that night, and the latter hugged his shoulder with one arm and waist with the other, and without saying anything, they kissed again.

It seemed that their whole body started to follow the rhythm of the spectacle that happened outside, because with each second in which the two mouths moved slowly and deliciously, their hearts beat so fast that they seemed to explode as well as the fireworks, just as they could feel the pulse as frantic as the way the bright blurs rose rapidly across the sky.

While millions of people celebrated outside, were partying in groups; while more and more lights exploded in the sky and the noises caused by them seemed to never stop, Sarawat and Tine were forgetting that there was someone in the universe besides them. That moment was theirs alone, and they both felt that they could not have had such a special first New Year together.

As they slowly finished kissing, both exchanged soft kisses across each other's faces, until they finally embraced.

"I'm so happy." Tine said with a serene tone, his face comfortably resting on Sarawat's shoulder.

"So am I, baby." Sarawat kissed his cheek.

Tine raised his head, only to be welcomed with Sarawat looking at him as lovingly as always. "Tonight was really special, just like I wanted our first New Year together to be. Well, the last seconds were kinda crazy, and we're like, wet with a fake champagne that you created." The two of them laughed. "But I wouldn't change the way it was for a thing. Now I can't really imagine our moment being so special like this if we went to the beach."

"Celebrating here was actually really better than it would be there." Sarawat agreed.

"Yes? If you think so, I dare you to list the reasons why." Tine challenged playfully. "Because thinking more about it, actually the only reason I think being here was better than there was because here I got to listen to Scrubb." He add, clearly joking.

Because they both knew that there, different from what would be on the beach, Tine got to see Sarawat singing a love song for him and only him, an intimate moment that they could only have alone, and that's definitely what made him know that that moment, in that terrace, it was more special than it would have been had it been spent anywhere else.

Sarawat roled his eyes jokingly. "Of course, it's always Scrubb that matters! But I can list a lot, ok." Sarawat raised his eyebrows in a fun way, trying to make Tine laugh and succeeding. "First, we had a more intimate moment here, in a way we couldn't have had there. We talked about things that wouldn't have been bring up if we were there, and if I'm being honest, cuddling with you was way better than listening to our friends being drunk idiots. Don't get me wrong, I adore them, but I love it when we have moments like this. But of course the main reason spending our night here instead of there was that here we wouldn't have the chance to be bite by a crab."

"Ai'Wat, don't ruin the moment!" Tine complained but laughed.

"Kidding, kidding. But seriously Tine, you wanted today to be special for me and it was, because I know that in thirty years I'll remember our first New Year together as a special moment spent enjoying nothing but your company, and it was the best thing I could ask for."

"It was special for me too, for real. Thank you for sharing this moment with me, Wat."

"Nuisance, if you let me I'll be there sharing every special moment of your life with you."

"Sounds good. Really good." Tine bite his lips and smiled.

"So it's a yes?"

"Yes, Sarawat, but I wanna share not only special moments but actually my entire life with you."

"Seems like you're stuck with me, because there's nothing I want more than sharing my life with you too." Sarawat said with a soft but honest voice, looking at Tine with adoration.

"Deal then. Well, we'll spend the rest of our New Year's together, and with you by my side I know I'll be fine, but even so there's something we have to agree to cut off of any of our celebrations, love."

"What would it be?" Sarawat asked concerned.

"Your creation of yellow tea and sparking water."

With that, Sarawat made a comic face like he was deeply insulted "Oi Tine!"

"Sorry, baby, but it's true." Tine laughed at his boyfriend face. "I appreciate the intention, but when we kissed all I could taste was the taste of something between toilet water and dirty socks."

"Nuisance, that's a outrage, my invention tastes extremely good."

"It tastes terrible!"

"Oh, yes? So if tastes so bad you wouldn't want me to do that, right?" Sarawat said and leaned, pecking Tine's lips.

"No, I wouldn't." Tine pulled the tip of his tongue out in a teasing way.

"What about that?" Sarawat leaned again and started to kiss Tine's face nonstop, them did the same with his neck, pulling the trigger on Tine's laugher.

"Ai'Wat haha- stop it! It's- it's tickling!"

"Why should I stop?" Sarawat asked playfully while still kissing the boy everywhere.

"Because-hahaha... because I'm your boyfriend that you love so much."

With that, Sarawat stopped and his teasing expression was replaced with a serene one, and hugged Tine's shoulders before starting speaking again. "You're right. I love you."

The fireworks had long ago stopped their show in the sky, and again the only things above them were the beautiful stars kissing them with their lights. Also wihout the bursting of the pyrotechnic lights, the ambient sound was again just that of the night breeze and the comforting artificial sea noises.

But when Tine snuggled into Sarawat's chest, another noise joined the symphony of sounds that made up that night, it being Sarawat's heartbeat. Tine's favorite sound, even more preferred than Scrubb songs, because that was the sound that guaranteed that the blood inside that body that embraces him everyday with such love was being pumped, making that heart keep beating, and while it continued and that sound existed, everything would be fine.

So Tine looked up, kissed Sarawat's cheek and said back. "I love you too."

With a new year, new changes, challenges and problems can come, which is why Tine was never a fan of that time of year. When leaving a year behind, he felt as if he left his security together, always vulnerable in this new phase that always begins.

But this time, for the first time in his life, he doesn’t fear what’s coming, because he knows he’s not alone, and if he gets lost in this new phase, Sarawat’s hand will be there to hold his and bring him back on track.

A long time ago, during a late night conversation, Tine told Sarawat that he was scared of the future and that he admired the fact that he didn't seem to fear anything, which made the musician laugh as if he had heard a absurd.

Tine, I'm a human, of course I do fear a lot of things, but when I'm scared of anything, I do something. I think of you, being there by my side. It doesn’t make my fear go away, but it gives me the strength to face it, because as long as we’re together, I know everything will be okay. I hope that one day you can feel that way about me too.

So there, that night, during the first day of a new year, instead of being terrified as he would always be, Tine felt light and at peace, and he knew his lover hope came true. He closed his eyes, breathed in close to his man's chest and felt his heart squeeze with the familiar smell. He then looked up, admiring his beloved's face, from his scars to his soft hair that was slightly messed up by the wind. At that moment, he thought about how the last year was the best of his life because he finally found the right person who will live with him for the rest of his days. For having met a person who loves him so much that he managed to make him gradually love himself too. Because Sarawat made him understand that he's worth it.

This time, Tine realized that Sarawat didn't noticed that he was being watched, just kept staring straight ahead while lovingly stroking Tine's shoulder. The latter then cuddled up to his boyfriend's chest again and smiled when he felt a chaste kiss being left on his forehead.

He looked ahead, observing the vastness of the world, thinking that there are many unknown things out there that wait for him, but at that moment, thinking that didn't scared him anymore. Because, in the end Sarawat was right, and as long as they are together, everything will be fine.

He looked up one more time, as to be sure that the moment and the person he was embraced with were real. He placed his hand on Sarawat's chest and felt his heart beating.

It will be a good life to live, Tine thought, sighed contently and looked forward again.
