Gender-neutral reader!

Notes:

There are a lot of little nods to the reader's quirk. You have a quirk called animate, anything you draw you can bring it to life. The more time spent and the more details added to the drawing the stronger and more lifelike the object is. This extends to all forms of art, including digital and tattoos.

Work Text:

Loud banging resonated throughout the dorm of Support Class 1D. Early risers and disgruntled teenagers that were woken up by the sound filter down into the common room. Staring at the visibly shaking door the small group glance at each other and silently debated who had to pull the short straw and open the door. Sighing the class rep poured themselves a cup of coffee before walking up to the door, unlocking it, and pulling it open. The student stood shocked, staring down at a panting Bakugou, running through the short list of reasons the hero class boy would be pounding on their class dorm this early.

“...Bakugou Katsuki?”

“Move it extra! Let me in!”

“What are you doing here? I mean it's,” The support student glanced down at his phone before meeting the explosive boy’s eyes once again. “6:18 on a Sunday morning, and we don't even take costume suggestions until 11 anyway.”

Bakugou took a step forward, still blocked by the taller boy, “I don’t have to answer to you. Just fucking let me in!”

Taking a sip of his coffee the student just stared at him, unbothered by Bakugou’s threatening exterior, “Uh...no? Why would I?”

“Fucken’-” He ripped his right sleeve up for the teenager to see the colors now painting his arm. Written in a messy but flowing script, “Y/N Y/L/N” was inked into his arm in rich black. Lines of deep red accompanied it, drawing cute doodles around the name.

The class rep blinked down at the name for a few seconds before reacting. “Oh shit,” the boy stepped to the side and held the door open for Bakugou, “Third floor, second door on the right.

Saying nothing else he ran through the door, disregarding all the kids staring at him in favor of slamming the door to the stairs open and taking them two at a time. All the students watched him disappear up the stairs then turned to their class rep.

One of the students piped up, looking disgruntled at the situation as a whole, “What was that about?”

“He’s- he’s Y/L/N soulmate.”

~~~~~~
A loud banging at your dorm room door woke you up from your slumber. Barely lifting your face from where it was cemented in your pillow you blindly reached out to grab your phone off your nightstand, knocking something off in the process. Seeing that it was 6:20am you begrudgingly kicked the blankets off of yourself, upset that you had been forced to leave your cocoon of warmth, and yelled to the person banging at your door, “Give me a second!” Slipping on an extra-large hoodie and running your fingers through your hair you opened your door, rubbing your eyes from sleep. “Yes?”
Y/n.
Freezing at the unmistakable voice of a certain hero course student you finally looked up, locking eyes with bright red, “Uhh..? How-... Do you realize how early it is?” You were at a loss, Bakugou could barely stand you when your classes had teamed up to work on the hero course’s suits. The only reason he didn’t throw you to the curve when he had to work with you was that he thought you were “the only semi capable kid in your entire class”. It’s not like he actually told you that but what he kept to himself was no one’s business.
“I-I came here as fast as I could.”
Your confusion only intensified. What was he even talking about? “What?”
The blond tugged his sleeve up yet again, shoving his forearm into your face. “Look at your arm dumbass!”
Used to Bakugou’s … interesting personality you calmly grabbed his arm, pulling it back until you could comfortably read it without your eyelashes brushing across his skin. “I don’t see what the big deal is ab- Holy shit.” There, in front of your face was your name, written in your own handwriting. You rubbed your thumb across it in disbelief, wondering if the dark pigment would smeer and this dream would come tumbling down.
In typical Bakugou fashion his arm was ripped from your grasp, breaking your dreamlike trance. “Holy shit is right, now look at your arm idiot!” he grabbed your left hand, tugging your sleeve up your arm to reveal his own name written in dark green. He matched your reaction, body stilling as his thumb traced the neat letters before tracing the orange explosion’s that surrounded it. The soulmate mark had pushed aside and mixed with the tattoos that had once been in its place. A mix of old and new you already adored.
“...Wow.” The softest word you had ever heard come from the blond boy’s mouth broke you from your staring, instead you looked up at who you now knew to be your soulmate. Feeling your eyes on him he met your gaze.
He looked… soft. His eyes held warmth and hope. Hope that this was real and you would accept him, even with all the shit you’ve heard about him. “Bakugou- I- I’m-” Suddenly choked up with the wave of strong emotions you tried to say everything you felt in that moment. Tried to speak through the emotions of finding your soulmate, the moment everyone dreams of. Some wait years, until they’re in their 50’s or 60’s, and some never find theirs. But here you stood fresh into high school, face to face with your soulmate in the middle of your dorm hallway with bed head and tears of happiness in your eyes.
“Just kiss me already dumbass.” Bakugou spoke and then you were kissing. It was nothing special, just the hard press of lips against each other, but it meant the world. You squeaked on impact but soon melted into it, with shaking hands you held onto one of his biceps the other hand moved to rest on top of one of his hands, both of which cradled your face softly. The kiss soon grew softer until you two broke apart, lips millimeters apart as you looked into each other’s eyes, red meeting y/e/c.
Bakugou spoke first, hands moved to hold your own, this new soft side giving you whiplash from his usual personality. “I came here after getting ready for my workout,” a soft laugh of disbelief escaped him, “I dropped my water bottle in the middle of filling it up after I saw the mark when I pulled up my sleeve because water got on it. Left Shitty hair to clean up my mess as I sprinted across campus straight here. I didn’t think I would meet my soulmate while wearing shitty workout clothes.”
You laughed in response, smiling wide, you squeezed his hands in getty excitement, “Don’t worry about your clothes. I didn’t think I would end up finally finding my soulmate when I wasn’t wearing pants.”
“I- Wha-” Bakugou was the first to break eye contact as he glanced down at your state of dress. You wore block thigh high socks that had rolled down unevenly from sleep, his eyes traced the exposed strip of skin until he reached the end of the large hoodie that brushed low across your thighs. Flush spread across his face as his eyes snapped back up to yours, minuscule sparks bounced across your connected palms as his body heated up involuntary.
“I- um-”
You couldn’t help but to laugh, any embarrassment you might have felt about being half naked in the middle of the hallway being washed away with how adorable the blond was. “Shh, it’s ok. How about this: since you were about to go workout and I just rolled out of bed we meet up later? We go somewhere small and get to know each other instead of yelling over gauntlet blueprints.”
“Are you asking me out on a date?”
You watched him carefully, that smile that you had grown accustomed to when you challenged him over some arbitrary design detail crept across his face, he was ready for a challenge. “What?” you answered, your own lips curling into a smirk, “Too scared to set up a date with your soulmate?”
“Never, this is going to be the best fuckin’ date you’ve ever been on.”
“I’m counting on it pretty boy, now wait here for a second, I have a pen around here somewhere.” Giving his hands one last squeeze you slipped from his grip, turning around to make your way to the desk in your room. Katsuki watched as you danced around piles of school work and half finished art projects scattered across your bedroom floor, soon you were back with a black pen. You wrote alongside the mark that displayed your name on his skin, numbers you wrote in pen easily matching the mark, almost as if it was written from the same hand.
“There we go!” You placed a kiss on the soulmark before standing up straight to make eye contact with Bakugou again. “So um… I’ll see you later?”
The blond smirked again, his cheeks still holding a small flush, “definitely,” and with a parting kiss he left the hallway, making the cross campus jog back to his down dorms. You watched where he once stood for a few beats, a large smile spread across your lips and a squeal escaped your lips. Your soulmate! You found your soulmate! Thee Bakugou Katsuki is your soulmate.
Kirishima had just made the decision to go on his run alone when Bakugou strolled right back through the front door of Heights Alliance. “Bakubro! Where did you go? You dropped your water bottle in the middle of the floor and sprinted out the door!” No response, “Bakugou?”
Bakugou had a look on his face that the hardening boy had never seen before. He looked… gitty? A dazed look in the bond’s eyes matched with a soft smile? Kirishima might not be the smartest person in the world but he understood emotions better than most. The new burst of color across his best friend's forearm just confirmed his suspicions.
“Bro-!”
Bakugou quickly snapped out of it, his smile dropping, his warm exterior replaced with his usual personality, “Shut the hell up Shitty hair, let me refill my water bottle then we can get going.” As he went to walk past the redhead to do exactly what he said Kirishima grabbed his arm, pushing up his sleeve so he could read the entire name before Bakugou ripped this arm away and pulled his sleeve back down, “What the fuck Shitty hair?!”
“Bro! You found your soulmate!! Is that where you went? The support class dorms?”
“Shut the fuck up! Don’t go announcing it to the entire world you idiot!”
Before anymore could be said by Kirishima a green flash of light brightened the room and revealed Deku. His hair stood up in some places only to lay flat on one side, his messy PJ’s showed he just got out of bed. “Kacchan found his soulmate?!?!”
“Fuck off Deku!”
“Who’s the unlucky person?” Spoke Todoroki from the couch, who had gone unnoticed until now. His hands cradled a cup of coffee, his usual perfect hair staticy and stuck out in some places, but his eyes were trained on the three boys who stood a few paces from his spot on the couch.
This quip set Bakugou off even more, hands starting to spark with threatening explosions, “Unlucky? You want to die half an’ half?!”
Kirishima answered for the blond, smiling wide, “Its y/l/n y/n!”
Deku finished his thoughts with an excited squeal, “From the support course? They’re amazing!”
“Of course they are! They’re my soulmate.”
“I feel bad.” Todoroki added in, face as blank as ever, “Someone as kind as them stuck with someone like you.”
Full explosions were now popping off his hands as Bakugou moved forward to explode Todoroki's face off, “WHAT’S THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN?!? I’LL KILL YOU ICY-HOT!”
Kirishima, ever the optimist, just laughed and wrapped a hardened arm around his best bro’s waist, lifting him off the ground, so he couldn’t kill Todoroki or explode the hardened arm off, “What are you doing here bro? Shouldn’t you be over at the support dorms? Getting to know each other and… whatever soulmates do!”
“I don’t have to fucking tell you Shitty hair!”
“Aww come on bro!”
“Fucken fine! I’ll tell you if you get your stupid hands off of me.” With his demands fulfilled and his feet back on the floor Bakugou continued, “I woke them up so we made a deal that we would go on a date later.”
“Bakubro’s got a date!”
“Yeah, what about it, Shitty hair? I'm going to plan the best fucken’ date anyone has ever been on!”
You’re going to be the one planning the date? I yet again feel bad for y/n.”
“Who pissed in your cereal this morning Half an’ Half?!”
Before Todoroki’s life could be threatened again Midoriya spoke up, “As much as I hate to say this to you, Kacchan, Todoroki-kun is right. You have never planned a date before and you have only talked to y/n over school an-”
More sparks popped off of Bakugou’s hands, this time in annoyance, “Stop mumbling you damn nerd! Why are all of you more annoying than usual this morning!”
“It's ok if you don’t know how to plan for your date Bakubro! We can get Mina to help out. She’s great at this kind of stuff!”
“Shut up Shitty Hair!!”
