Work Text:

Their first Christmas together ever since Dazai moved to Chuuya's neighborhood and ever since they became something more than friends - but not quite boyfriends yet because none of them have talked about that and they just assumed that they're dating but okay, that's not the point here.

Christmas. What better way to spend it if not by going on a date with your partner?

But it's Chuuya's first time dating and he had no idea what couples do on Christmas! Fancy candlelit dinner? Not something a couple of junior high schoolers could afford - well, technically, Dazai can , by using his dad's credit card, but Chuuya forbade him from doing that because if they're going on a date, it'd be using their own allowance. Okay so fancy dinner is off the list. Then what are they supposed to do?

Chuuya jumped as the door to his room opened, revealing Kouyou who gave him a weird look but it soon dispersed into a gentle, knowing smile. "He's downstairs." She said, her smile soft as he looked at the younger boy. "I heard it's going to snow so dress warmly." Kouyou reminded and Chuuya nodded, taking his gloves and coat before following her downstairs.

"Hi, Chibi." Chuuya spared him a glance as he struggled with his coat and the both of them said their byes to Kouyou before getting out of the house.

For some moments, the two teenagers didn't talk. Maybe it's because they never went out on an actual date before, everything was counted as simply hanging out with your guy best friend; but this time, Dazai had openly said to him : Let's go on a date and the somehow intimate atmosphere felt strange and new to them. For the first time since knowing each other, they actually felt awkward.

"This is so weird." Chuuya whined after they've walked a good 20 steps from his house. He looked at Dazai with a pout while the brunet chuckled at him, nodding his head in agreement.

"This is so not us." The younger one said, walking one step closer beside Chuuya until their shoulders are touching.

"What do they do on a Christmas date, anyway? What do they do on a date, in general? I had no idea!"

"Mhmm, same. Wanna just go back and cuddle? Watch bad Christmas movies?" Dazai suggested, shrugging when Chuuya shook his head no.

"We're out already, let's walk a bit and if there's really nothing to do, then we can go home."

"Okay."

They made their first stop at the coffee shop they usually frequent for a cup of warm beverage. It's quickly getting chilly here. "Coffee?" Dazai asked the redhead who's browsing through the menu.

"Chocolate." Chuuya decided after a while and elbowed the taller one when he mocked him with a : " Tiny widdle Chuuchuu ."

"Shut up before I kick your ass."

Dazai chuckled and paid for the both of them.

The hot chocolate felt nice against his gloved hands and while Chuuya blew on the liquid to cool it down a bit before consuming, he heard Dazai say : "That one would look good on you."

The ginger turned his head to the direction Dazai was pointing and without a second thought, kicked his shin, making him crouch down in pain and almost spilling his coffee had Chuuya not quickly taken the cup into his own hand. He stared down his boyfriend whose mouth kept spilling insult as he rubbed the injured area.

The bastard had not only pointed at kids' clothes, it had been a fairy set for baby girls! "Fucking insufferable!" He grumbled, annoyed, stealing a sip of Dazai's coffee while urging the boy to stand up.

"Chuuya's so mean!"

"Your fault for being annoying." Chuuya replied easily, returning his coffee and continued their stroll.

They then stopped by a shop to buy a cake for Kouyou and Kyouka and just as Dazai was about to pay for the sweets, the first snow landed on top of his head. Instead of looking up, Dazai's gaze immediately fell on the redhead standing beside him who's already staring at the white falling down the sky.

Chuuya's eyes were sparkling, the corners of his lips lifted and Dazai wordlessly took off his scarf to round it around Chuuya's neck, pulling it tight enough but still allowing him to breathe comfortably. "Thank you." The older one muttered, cheeks tinted pink as he buried his face on the soft material.

"Don't sniff it too much." Dazai joked, grabbing the packed cakes and leading them towards the huge Christmas Tree, finding a -luckily and thankfully- empty bench to sit down.

They were both pressed close together, Dazai shifting so Chuuya'd be more comfortable as he was lying his head on Dazai's shoulders. How rare it was for Chuuya to openly do such a thing in public so Dazai chose to keep silent and enjoy the moment.

"Tell me if you're cold." Chuuya muttered but looking at the way he's nuzzling his face against the scarf like that , Dazai would not say a thing even if he's freezing. "I haven't gotten you a present this year."

"This year?" Dazai repeated, holding Chuuya's free hand with his own.

Chuuya hummed in reply. "Now that you're here, I can ask you personally what you would like for Christmas."

"What a silly question." The brunet chuckled, "Are you sure you can give me what I want?" He challenged, which made Chuuya raise a brow.

"As long as I can obtain it and if it is not something perverted." That pulled a laugh out of Dazai. "You caught me."

"Perverted bastard." Chuuya said, a smile playing on his lips, though.

" Fufu, I have Chuuya now, what more could I possibly want?"

The redhead faked a shudder to hide his blush. "That's disgusting."

"Geez, Chuuya, I'm hurt! And here I am trying to be the absolute sweetest, bestest boyfriend ever."

"Since when are we dating?" Chuuya huffed.

"Eh, I thought we are?"

"I thought so too, but since when?"

Dazai hummed thoughtfully. "Make it today then. Can I have Chuuya as my Christmas present?" Chuuya scoffed at that.

"Ask me properly, damn it!"

"So demanding~"

"Then I guess you won't be having anything."

Dazai twisted his body so they're properly facing each other. With his hands holding onto Chuuya and their eyes locked together, he asked : "Be mine, Chuuya?"

"If I say yes, will you put a collar on me or something?"

"Maybe."

Chuuya rolled his eyes. "You better not."

"Your answer?"

"Isn't it obvious?"

"I want to hear it from you."

The redhead sighed, though a smile still on his lips as he nodded once. "Yes, Osamu, I'll be yours." And then Dazai was mimicking his facial expression.

"And~!" He pulled out a black box with red ribbon wrapping around it. "Here I have Chuuya's present!" He exclaimed delightfully and handed it to the confused Chuuya.

"What's this?" The redhead asked, already pulling on the ribbon. "If it's a collar, I swear to God."

"It's not, don't worry." Dazai assured. But an assurance from Dazai is never assuring and when Chuuya finally opened the box, the brunet declared happily : "It's a choker!"

Chuuya, who was picking the object up, hitted his boyfriend. "Isn't it the same thing!?" He groaned agitatedly.

"It's not!"

"Holy shit, it has your initials on it too. Dazai, I'm not your goddamn pet!"

Dazai grinned, taking the choker and unwrapping the scarf around Chuuya's neck. "You're not. But still mine." He hummed, skillfully putting the leather around Chuuya's neck and he kissed his nape once done, sending shivers down Chuuya's spine.

"Asshole." He said softly. "Thank you, I guess."

Dazai held him for a moment, nose against his nape and once he pulled back, he fixed the scarf around Chuuya's neck again. "Let's go back?"

"Okay."

"Come up to my room for a bit." Chuuya said once they're in front of his house. "Or maybe.. spend the night?" He asked, shyly.

"Why are you acting like I've never spent the night." The brunet grinned. "Hirotsu-san had gone back to his family's house for the weekend, anyway."

"He had?"

"I didn't tell you?" Dazai pulled Chuuya inside the house, greeting Kouyou who's accompanying Kyouka watching some cartoon series. "We're back."

"Osamu's spending the night, Ane-san."

"I have prepared your dinner, you guys can reheat it by yourself." Kouyou said.

"Thank you, Ane-san." Chuuya replied. "Osamu bought you and Kyouka-chan some cakes, I'll put it in the fridge." He then continued, doing just what he said before tugging Dazai up to his room.

"Are you going to kiss me?" Dazai asked playfully once Chuuya closed the door behind them.

"I told you that'd wait until we're 17." Chuuya answered, rummaging through his closet and pulling a rather large bag. "Sit down."

"What's that?"

Chuuya's blushing as he handed Dazai the bag. "Presents." He mumbled shyly, sitting beside the male on the floor. "It's a bit dusty, though."

And when Dazai peeked inside, he saw 4..5..6 7 different shaped and wrapped presents. He looked at Chuuya in confusion while the male pressed his forehead against his bony shoulders.

"It's your Christmas presents." He explained.

"For this year?"

"You're smart, you can figure it." The redhead whined, looking at the way Dazai's examining the presents. "It's from when we get separated. I bought you presents every year. I just think we'll meet again and well, we did."

Dazai would be lying if he said his heart didn't feel like bursting because holy shit that's fucking sweet. "Chuuya.." He breathed out, his smile fond as he pulled his boyfriend into a hug. "You really love me, huh."

"D-Don't get ahead of yourself!" He protested but didn't pull away from the hug. "I just- I.. I don't even know why I did it, okay!"

Dazai laughed, squeezing him tightly in his embrace. "Don't tell me you did this for my birthday too?"

"S-So what if I did!"

"Oh, Chibi, you're the sweetest thing alive, I swear to God."

"I'm not!"

"Shush. Can I open them?"

"Of course."

"I asked Ane-san to buy a puzzle set because I remember back in our orphanage days, you preferred playing the puzzle." Chuuya explained as Dazai ripped open the present with the number 7 written on the wrappers.

"Books, because you enjoyed reading.. until now too, right?" Present numbered 8.

"That one's obviously a ball. I know you're not the athletic type, but I want you to exercise more." Chuuya chuckled at the memory of 9 years old him, begging Ane-san to buy another ball for 'Samu .

"It's a chess board because the Osamu I knew was crazy smart and surely you'll still be smart when you grow up." Dazai hummed at that, leaving a kiss on Chuuya's face every time he opened the presents.

"I started running out of ideas and I didn't know your size, so I bought an adult sized Hoodie. I think you can fit in that, still." Chuuya said once Dazai unwrapped the baby blue hoodie. "I have a similar one in white."

"And for the last one, it's a pendant. I bought this with my own money. I was confused over what to get you and I thought accessories can never go wrong." He told his boyfriend, cradling a blue colored stone. "What do you think?"

"Thank you, Chibi." Was breathed against his ear. "This is very sweet of you, I can't even insult you even if I want to."

"Rendered you speechless, huh?"

"You certainly did. You really are so fucking precious." Dazai sighed, holding Chuuya close against his chest. "Thank God I managed to find you."

"Mhm, and I thank you for that." Chuuya grinned, snuggling closer. "Should we reheat the dinner Ane-san left us?"

"Let me stay like this 5 more minutes."

"Okay."

"God, you're so dangerous for my heart."

"That's cringy, Osamu." Chuuya chuckled.

"But it's the truth." The brunet argued. "You might say that this is too soon but I'm certain, I am fucking in love with you." Chuuya hummed at that but before he could say anything, Dazai continued : "You don't have to say it back yet, it's okay."

And he closed his mouth again, nodding. "But aren't we forgetting something, Osamu?"

"Hm?"

"Merry Christmas."

A chuckle slipped past Dazai's lips. "Merry Christmas, Chibi. Thanks for all those presents but I dare say nothing can ever beat this year's."

"Oh really?"

"I should have asked you to marry me earlier."

"Why don't you try next year?"

Dazai's eyes narrowed, tone serious as he said : "I'm keeping your words, Chibi. If you run away, I swear I'll use my dad's connection to find you."

Chuuya hit him for that. "That's scary, Osamu, what the fuck!"

"I'm serious. That's why you shouldn't say things you don't mean."

Chuuya glared at his boyfriend for a while before his frown turned into a challenging smirk. "What if I really meant it, though?"

Dazai growled low but before he could say anything, the door to Chuuya's room opened, Kouyou appearing with her arms crossed : "No one's getting married, you guys are barely a high schoolers! Now go down and have your dinner!"
