Work Text:
Jimin didn’t believe Taehyung at first. Even now, on his way to the plane taking him to Tokyo, he doesn’t really believe it. He, Park Jimin, regular, plain Park Jimin is going to be spending the weekend in Disneyland Tokyo with none other than rapper sensation Agust D.
What’s he even supposed to call him? Yoongi? That’s too casual. Agust D might be weird though. This is all if he’s even able to form words in his presence.
There’s so much he wants to say, wants to thank him for, but where’s he even supposed to start? It’s not like it will be anything the rapper hasn’t heard before either.
Taehyung's snicker brings him out of his reverie.
“What?”
“Nothing,” Taehyung takes a second to look at him, grin on his face, before returning his eyes to the road. “I’m just happy you’re so excited. You’re practically beaming, careful you don’t blind him.”
Caring too much about meeting the idol, and maybe a little bit for Taehyung’s safety, he refrains from shaking or hitting him and settles for glaring at his best friend. The same best friend who made this dream a reality.
Jimin is not going to cry again god damn it.
“Thank you.” Jimin cringes at how hoarse he sounds.
“Aish, stop it, crybaby. You going to cry in front of the baddest boy in South Korea?”
“Maybe I will.” Jimin retorts petulantly, but instantly grins at the reminder.
Finally at the check in he notices Taehyung getting antsy. He lets him straighten the lapels of his jacket and fix his hair without commenting as he can see Tae’s wobbling lips and he’d rather not watch him cry— he’s done that enough to last a lifetime and it makes his heart ache. When Taehyung’s fingers start tapping on his shoulders, struggling to let Jimin go, he sighs.
“Tae,”
“Chim,” He interrupts.
“If he’s mean you don’t hesitate to call me. I don’t care that he makes an obscene amount of money or that he’s got a horde of fans, I will end him.” Jimin giggles at the sincerity of Taehyung’s tone.
“I’ll be fine. I’m a big boy.”
“You might be, but I’m not.” Taehyung’s lower lip juts out and he bites at it and Jimin can see the tears pooling up in his eyes, seconds away from falling.
“Don’t cry.” He tells his best friend uselessly in a far too shaky voice and that’s all it takes for the waterworks to truly begin. So here they are, in the middle of the crowded airport, holding each other tight and sobbing.
It must look so dramatic, but they’re hardly the first ones to cry in an airport so he can’t bring himself to care.
“I love you, Taehyungie.” It’s barely intelligible from where he’s mumbling into his shoulder.
“I love you too, Minnie,” Taehyung sniffs loudly and Jimin can feel him trying to collect himself. “Seriously though. If you’re not up to it I’m only a plane ride away. It’s not a bother. You’re never a bother.”
Jimin stiffens in his arms and sighs, he thought they’d put this behind them, but Tae will always be a worry wart. “I know. I learned my lesson.”
Taehyung pulls away and looks him straight in the eye. “Good,” he nods curtly. “Now go get that ass.”
For the first few moments Jimin can only gape at him while making indignant noises. “Oh my god- I can’t believe you right now.” They both roll their eyes at the other.
One more long hug later they part, lest Jimin miss the plane.
Jimin is picked up at the airport by Kim Seokjin, one of Agust D’s managers. The man is all smiles and very pleasant. He asks about the plane ride, how he’s doing and all that jazz. Jimin likes him a lot, he’s nice without being patronising or overbearing.
He must know that Jimin’s already been told, but he explains that Yoongi will be coming with a later flight and how it’s because he’s just come home from the US and is making a pit stop at his house.
That and wanting to avoid Jimin being caught up with Yoongi and his fans on the way. Jimin nods in understanding and comments it would have been taxing and that he appreciates it.
“I’ll be off to get him now and soon enough you’ll have him all to yourself.” Seokjin must notice his wide eyes because he adds quickly, with a smile “And don’t worry. He acts all tough on stage, but he’s a softie. He’s the one who insisted taking the time for this after all.”
The tall man taps at his nose and smiles, eyes closing.
“Really? Wow. I don’t know what to say...”
“Don’t tell him I told you though, he’d probably just deny it anyway,” Seokjin shakes his head and sighs. “It’s just the way he is. You just make yourself comfortable.
“And do call me if you need anything. See you later, Jimin. It was really nice to meet you.”
“You too, Seokjin.”
“Just call me Jin.”
Once alone he finally takes in the room. He really didn’t expect all this, or any of it for that matter. He sits in the middle of the huge bed that’s right out of a fairy tale.
The big C’s on the headboard of the two proper beds - there’s a pull out for the manager - clues him in that the room is Cinderella themed. It’s over the top and everything he wanted from Disneyland.
It’s a shame the room doesn’t have a view of the park, but he’ll save it for later.
Jimin opens the briefcase and picks something that’s not his comfortable travel clothes and gets ready for a shower.
His heart beats so quickly it threatens to make him faint as he dries his hair in front of the huge bathroom mirror. He pulls a hand roughly over his face and laughs breathlessly. This is really happening.
Jimin is absentmindedly scrolling through instagram when the door opens. Except for his wide eyes his whole body freezes.
Seokjin enters the room first, chatting with the man behind him. Min Yoongi. He saw him live once, years ago, but he still thought he’d be taller.
Jimin is instantly mortified as Jin’s laughter fills the room. For the love of everything holy, he did not just say that out loud?
“Don’t worry. No one says it, but everyone’s thinking it,” Jin says between bouts of windshield wiper laughter.
Yoongi glares at his manager and Jimin apologises profusely, face burning. When Yoongi turns to look at Jimin he squeaks, terrified, but the rapper doesn’t scowl at him. Quite surprisingly he smiles and Jimin... Jimin’s brain short circuits./
“Don’t worry. I insulted Tablo the first time I met him.” Yoongi winks and Jimin tries to respond, he really does, but he’s left there opening and closing his mouth repeatedly.
Luckily Jin comes to the rescue once he’s done laughing. “Well. Jimin, Yoongi - Yoongi, Jimin. Now that that’s out of the way, you must be hungry. There’s a table ready for you at the Canna.”
Yoongi nods and excuses himself to the bathroom to wash up. Even so it takes Jimin a couple of minutes to start breathing properly again.
“You have Taehyung’s contact info, right?” He doesn’t expect anything to happen, he’s been having a good week, but it never hurts to be prepared.
“Oh yes, he keeps blowing up my phone. You should probably call him.” Jin winks and Jimin slaps his forehead with a groan. He’s been so caught up in the moment that he completely forgot to check in with Tae.
“Ah, sorry about that. I got distracted.” He rubs his neck sheepishly. Luckily Jin doesn’t seem to mind.
“No worries. He’s a good friend.”
“The best,” Jimin agrees without skipping a beat.
Yoongi is, at least he seems, patient with him. It takes Jimin awhile to land after meeting the rapper, but he doesn’t seem to mind. He’s not quite finished with blushing in his presence, but he’s finally able to hold a decent conversation with him.
It’s cute how Yoongi catches himself when he broaches something that could potentially be a sensitive subject, given his situation. He hardly minds though and tells him as much. At least Jimin isn’t the only one getting flustered.
Jin’s always hanging around somewhere in the background, working from his phone, this time as they walk to Westernland. Jimin finds himself distracted by a spectacular looking Belle - not that he’d need a distraction to tumble - and trips on a child while looking back at her.
Yoongi yelps and grabs him by the collar of his leather jacket.
“T-thanks, I wasn’t paying attention.”
“Obviously,” Yoongi tsks and straightens his jacket. And if Jimin’s face wasn’t beet reed already…
It takes him almost the entire day to notice the looks and the water bottles, etc, pushed his way at regular intervals. At first he’s wondering if he should be offended, but upon further examination he notices that Yoongi acts the same way towards his manager. Who would have thought?
It’s quite endearing, though not quite as endearing as the little jumps he makes at the loud noises in the Haunted Mansion. After the fact Yoongi vehemently denies it ever happened, of course.
Alice’s Tea Party has to be his favourite though. Not because of the spinning that goes straight to his head, but because of the faces Yoongi is making. The way Yoongi - who obviously finds the experience unpleasant - keeps spinning them makes Jimin go all kinds of soft for him.
“Stop!” Jimin manages between laughs while hitting lightly at the rapper. “You don’t have to keep spinning us.”
Yoongi shrugs, but the indifference doesn’t quite reach his face. “It’s fine,” he says with a pout and Jimin nearly collapses in the cup.
They end the day at the Blue Bayou, just the two of them. The food is good and the atmosphere fantastic. Jimin’s eyes keep wandering the place. The lanterns hanging everywhere are particularly beautiful.
He ends up gushing about their day and talking about all the wonderful things in the park like Yoongi hadn’t been right next to him the whole time. Yoongi brushes him off when he starts apologising and shuts him right up when he tells him it’s ‘cute’.
Their food can’t come quickly enough after that. The silence that follows isn’t unpleasant though, and Jimin quite enjoys the fresh pout on Yoongi’s lips.
Once they get back to the hotel room Jimin immediately faceplants onto his bed. He falls asleep to the sound of the shower, absolutely exhausted from walking around all day, with a smile on his face.
The second day starts with delicious Mickey-shaped waffles. Not exactly the healthiest breakfast available, but Jimin regrets nothing. Having taken most of the rides yesterday, they decide wandering through the various little shops and some of the character themed gardens.
He can’t help the squeal at the sight of Yoongi with a red Minnie Headband - courtesy of Jin. He pleads with folded hands for a picture and the rapper acquiesces after nothing more than a halfhearted sigh and beckons him closer before motioning for Jin to take their picture.
In spite of really trying he fears the picture will reveal a faint blush on his cheeks due to their close proximity, but most of all it’s the hand at his waist.
The sun feels like fire on his neck and it doesn’t really hit him until midday. He’s exhausted. If it’s all the walking or the rides or the heat or a culmination he has no idea, but he notices too late. Yoongi insisted on buying him an equally silly hat as well, since he’s had to wear the Minnie ears all day, so he’s not in the vicinity when it happens. All the warning he gets is dots in his vision and then it’s lights out.
When he comes to the first thing he registers is the hot pain in his knees and the sun in his eyes. Oh. Shit, ouch.
As he begins to open his mouth he notices the hands on his face and his heart nearly beats out of his chest when he sees Yoongi trying to shield him from the sun, much too close to his face. There’s a serious frown on his face and Jimin’s first impulse is to apologise.
He didn’t mean to worry him.
“Sorry,” He starts, but the rapper shakes his head and pulls down his face mask.
“Don’t apologise. You okay? Can you stand or should I carry you?” Jimin squeaks and shakes his head, standing up abruptly. Which is a bad idea, considering. His head spins and it feels like he’s trying to balance walking on stilts. There’s a loud tsk at his side and Yoongi grabs his waist tightly and slings Jimin’s right hand over his shoulders.
“You good?”
“I’m fine.” He replies, head down. It’s difficult to say if it’s Yoongi’s manhandling or the trouble he’s caused that flusters him more. It feels pretty 50/50 at the moment. “I didn’t mean to be such a hassle.” He mumbles and worries his lip.
“Gah, stop. Is that why you fainted? We could sit in the hotel room all day, it wouldn’t matter. This is about you.”
“No..sorry. I was just,” Jimin sighs and still can’t make himself look up. “I was having so much fun, I didn’t register the toll it took on my body.”
“Oh,” It’s Yoongi’s turn to sigh. “I guess that makes sense. I’m glad.” He can hear Yoongi sucking in a breath. “Not that you overexerted yourself, obviously. Just that you’re having fun. It’s good. That you’re having a good time. With me- I mean,“
Jimin erupts into a fit of giggles at the other’s fumbling and he can practically hear the pout forming on his face.
“You shouldn’t be laughing at your hyung...” Yoongi says, pout evident in his tone of voice.
“Sorry,” He wheezes, drying his tears with his free hand. “That was too cute.”
“Cute? Do you know who you’re talking to?” Yoongi tsk’s and pinches his waist playfully. “I’m the toughest rapper there is. Nothing cute about spitting fire.” He continues petulantly.
“I don’t know. You’ve been pretty nice to me, Agust D.” Yoongi cringes at the use of his stage name.
“Call me hyung, okay?”
“Oh, okay, hyung.” Jimin bites his lip to stop his smile from getting too wide.
They end up spending the rest of the evening in bed after much fussing from both Jin and Yoongi. The former excused himself, after making sure Jimin was okay, saying he had to get some work done. Jimin and Yoongi sit shoulder to shoulder against the headboard of Jimin’s bed. The rapper’s laptop is resting on Yoongi’s thighs as he shows him some of the pieces, or rather the sounds, he’s working on while Jimin looks at the screen in awe.
The later it gets the closer his head gets to the other’s shoulder.
Jimin wakes slowly to the uncomfortable feeling of saliva on his cheek and his neck is hurting as well, and - oh my god. He jolts up and tries to wipe his cheek discreetly. Yoongi jumps as well, laptop crashing to the ground.
“Jesus!”
“Oh my god,” Jimin grabs a chunk of his hair. “I’m so sorry! For sleeping on you. And your laptop. Please tell me it’s okay?” There’s a hint of amusement in Yoongi’s eyes, and Jimin can’t for the life of him figure out why.
“It’s more than fine. Laptop is okay too.” He says, much too pleased with himself, while picking up his laptop and returning to his own bed. Jimin just rolls his eyes and snorts.
“Sorry, didn’t want to wake you.” This prompts Jimin to look around the room.
It’s dark out and he belatedly realises that Jin is asleep on the pullout, so it was more than a little nap.
“Sorry. You shouldn’t have..”
“God you really have to stop apologising all the time. You’re not a nuisance,” the rapper shakes his head and makes himself comfortable in his own bed. “Besides, you needed it.”
“My neck didn’t.” He moans while rubbing at it.
“You saying sleeping with me is uncomfortable? Don’t say it so the fan club hears you. They’ll have your head.” Jimin sputters, but he’s already lost this one.
He’s still soaring high and so in awe after the pieces Yoongi showed him the night before. The whole thing feels like a dream, and he sort of never wants to wake up. Yoongi’s far surpassed his expectations. How is he even real? He’d expected nonchalance and arrogance and if he’s honest he had been prepared to have his illusions of the man shattered. If possible he adores and appreciates the man even more than before.
There’s an added layer though.
He’s seen so much of the rapper, he’s more of a person now, rather than just an idol he admires.
“What are you smiling about this early?” Yoongi’s voice startles him from his reverie, but his smile only widens at his voice that’s rough with sleep.
“Nothing.” Jimin lies, obviously, with a grin.
“Uh-huh.”
“I’m just... I don’t know,” Jimin rolls to lie on his back. “Thank you for sharing your music with me,” He flushes and plays with his fingers. “I realise I didn’t get to tell you before I fell asleep on you. Literally.” Both of them chuckle a little at that.
“Any plans for today, Minnie?”
“Minnie?” Jimin repeats, confused, and sits up.
“Jiminie, Minnie.” Yoongi shrugs after sitting up. “Seems natural to me.”
“You’re the one with the Minnie headband.” Jimin reminds him with a cock of his eyebrow.
“Want to be my Minnie?” Yoongi smirks and tilts his head and Jimin can barely breathe. Before he can gather himself Yoongi saunters over, headband in hand, and puts it on his head. Yoongi nods and licks at his lower lip. “Perfect.” And he just walks away.
Is this it, is this how it ends?
He flops back down on his bed when he hears Yoongi enter the shower and groans loudly. What the hell. Min Fucking Yoongi.
After much back and forth they end up watching movies in bed all day. When Yoongi promised they’d stay up to watch the fireworks Jimin was prepared to agree to anything. He’s always wanted to see them. They look so ethereal in the videos and pictures both from promotions and visitors.
He can’t wait to experience it first hand.
“You’re like a puppy.” Yoongi rolls his eyes with a smile. Jimin decides not to deign it with a response and just pushes him away. He squeals when Yoongi retorts by almost pushing him off the bed.
This continues until they both come tumbling off the bed, Yoongi on top of Jimin, with their feet tangled. The wind is knocked right out of him so he doesn’t get to find the panicked look on Yoongi’s face cute - which he definitely would.
Yoongi’s eyes go wide at the wheeze that escapes him and his hands hover above his shoulders. He’s obviously at a loss.
“Please breathe,” the rapper begs and Jimin finally can, but he immediately laughs since he didn’t even bother untangling from Jimin. “Why are you laughing?” He asks, confused.
“Please,” Jimin wheezes. “Get off me.” And poor Yoongi tries just standing up in spite of their legs being tangled and he falls flat on his face. Jimin just stares at him for five seconds before bursting out laughing again.
“I appreciate the concern,” He moans.
“You’re fine.”
“You won’t be.”
They get out an hour before the fireworks because Yoongi’s tired of Jimin’s restless legs. They get ice cream and sit down on a Pluto bench. It looks positively horrifying. From the corner of his eye he admires Yoongi, black face mask resting on his chin. The lack of people coming up to the rapper during their stay here has been surprising. It leaves Jimin feeling pleased and guilty that he’s had him all to himself. This is their last day, they’ll be leaving at the asscrack of dawn.
There’s a mix of emotions in the pit of his stomach. Nothing beats the excitement he feels at the idea of the fireworks though. Part of him is also mentally exhausted from the trip. He’s terrified he’s boring Yoongi half the time and he’ll probably be relieved when they part ways and life is back to normal. Normal for him anyways.
Yoongi smiles while rolling his eyes at Jimin. The latter currently clinging to his arm while jumping up and down, counting down to the fireworks. His heart is fluttering in his chest and he’s nowhere near as shy or flustered as he normally would be clinging to the rapper. Jimin stares wide eyed at the colours burning prettily across the dark night sky. He gasps and swats lightly at Yoongi - who hisses quietly, but otherwise doesn’t protest.
Nearing the end Jimin chances a glance at him, stiffening slightly when he notices the other’s eyes are already trained on his face. He flushes and looks away, but Yoongi puts his hand to his cheek and pushes his face back to look at him.
“W-what?” Is all he manages, cheeks steadily heating up.
“I,” the rapper briefly closes his catlike eyes and wets his lips. “Could I see you, after this weekend?”
“What?” Jimin blinks rapidly.
“I want to see you again, Minnie.” Yoongi’s hand brushes past his cheek and into his hair.
“I don’t understand,” Jimin furrows his brows. “You know why you agreed to meet me, right?” His chest and throat is tightening. Yoongi looks away, but nods.
He continues after meeting his eyes again.
“I’ve got money.” Yoongi shrugs and Jimin lets out a wet laugh.
“All the money in the world wouldn’t help me, Yoongi. I’m sorry. Getting close to me won’t benefit anyone. Not now.”
“I don’t care,” Yoongi comes closer and Jimin flinches away.
“Don’t,” His eyes are welling up with tears.
“Sorry, I’m being selfish and unprofessional. I just, I’m drawn to you.” He sounds so sincere.
“You shouldn’t be.”
“I rarely do what I should,” Yoongi murmurs, getting closer again. Jimin doesn’t flinch this time and he closes his eyes as Yoongi caresses his cheek and leans in. He barely registers the pangs of the fireworks when chapped lips meet his own.
Jimin sits with, though it’s really more like lying on, Taehyung, crying his eyes out. There’s barely anything left of him now and there isn’t a lot of time left, they both know it.
“I don’t want to leave you. Or Yoongi,” He manages between sobs, voice broken, while his best friend’s fingers card through his hair. “I love both of you so much.” Taehyung hums, but it cracks as his throat is rough from crying as well.
“We know,” the younger says, eyes shut tightly. “None of us deserve this, least of all you. If God exists I’m going to kick him in his holy balls.” Jimin laughs, it’s a tiny, feeble thing.
“Hey now, you can’t say that. I don’t want to wait for you in heaven for eighty years just for you to end up in hell.”
“Pfft, no devil can hold me.” Tae snorts.
“I don’t think he’s taking it very well.” Jimin’s voice is so small again as he changes the subject.
“He knew what he was getting into.” Taehyung sounds more sympathetic than his words imply. It’s probably more to try and reassure him than anything else.
“He’s so sad when he looks at me. When he kisses and holds me,” His eyes are filling up with tears again.
“So gentle and desperate like it’ll be the last time.. I don’t blame him, it could be, but I can’t talk to him about how much I’m hurting in this. How I don’t want to die. How I don’t want to leave him. I don’t even know what I’m saying...”
“I get it, Chim. Don’t be scared. You should be honest with him. He loves you so much.”
“I just don’t want him to hurt any more than he already is.”
“Not being honest will only hurt him more. You’re an open book, Chim. I get that you want to be brave, but don’t hold yourself back.”
“You’re right...”
“I love you. So much.”
“I love you too.”
Seven months after Disneyland he’s bedridden. That’s more time than anyone thought he had left, so it’s a blessing and a curse. Yoongi’s been on hiatus for almost six months. There’s hardly been a moment where they’ve been apart.
Jimin’s started pushing him away though, especially now that he’s in so much pain. He doesn’t want Yoongi to see him like this. Looking in the mirror he doesn’t think he even looks alive anymore.
His previous godawful self-conscious seems like a terrible joke when he sees himself now. Scrolling through pictures he wishes he’d been more confident. He should have seen himself as more beautiful. While he still had been.
Yoongi still manages to call him beautiful all the time. No matter how many times Jimin tells him not to lie the rapper just scoffs and says it’s a shame Jimin can’t see what he sees. It’s disgustingly sweet, but he’d be lying if he said he didn’t love it. Love the way he makes him feel. Loves him even if it’s just been a few months.
They both cry when his body starts failing. When they plug Jimin off the machine to let his body go naturally.
There’s nothing more to do and there’s no time left. Taehyung is on his way, still trying to manage his studies. Jimin feels bad. His best friend is failing his degree in engineering and it’s all his fault.
He never sees Taehyung again.
Taehyung will never get over the guilt. He tries telling himself he should be happy, Jimin would be happy, that their last time together they were laughing.
When the door to the single room opens Yoongi is crying loudly, clinging to Jimin’s lifeless body. He barely even registers the door opening.
“Chim?” Taehyung almost falls to the floor wailing when Yoongi shakes his head.
Yoongi doesn’t have the mind to go comfort him in their shared grief. It feels like for ever before Taehyung makes his way over. Jimin’s doctor, a Kim something, enters the room carefully, but neither Yoongi or Taehyung spare him a glance.
If the doctor ever said anything he certainly didn’t register it.
It’s early morning when he’s pried from the love of his life. The love of his life that he only got seven months with before he was ripped from his arms. How can the world be so cruel?
After the funeral he disappears. He can’t bear doing anything. His only contact with the outside world is the occasional text from Taehyung, tactfully asking him if he’s still alive, and Seokjin trying to have him come back to the real world in spite of everything.
Nearly a year after Jimin’s death he returns. The concert is instantly sold out and netizens are freaking out, while simultaneously being understanding and sending their love.
He starts crying while performing So Far Away, but the crowd still sings, mourns with him, cry with him. Once it ends he tries speaking and he manages a few words for Jimin. Says that he still misses him, but most of all he says: ”Thank you so much.”
