Work Text:
(Y/N) locked her house front door and shoved her keys into her bag before walking her way to school. It was a normal occurrence for Japanese students to walk to and from school every day, some alone, some along with friends or even couples holding hands in the early morning. And that’s how normal mornings went with (Y/N), holding hands with Josuke on their way to school and sometimes even accompanied by his two best friends.
But this morning wasn’t like most, Josuke called her last night to tell her he was sorry he wouldn’t make it to school tomorrow since he had some family businesses to attend. (Y/N) reassured him that she would be fine and thanked him for the notice.
As (Y/N) walked along the sidewalk hearing the chipping of the birds she started to think back about her beloved boyfriend. They had been dating for just a couple months and she was still amazed on her ‘luck’ (or so she called it) to be dating such a cute and charming young man. (Y/N) had always been someone that didn’t really attract attention, the shy and quiet type for most people but even then, she got the famous delinquent attention. Crashing by accident outside of school she apologized profusely while he repeated ‘It’s alright!’ and Josuke being the ever flirty didn’t miss the opportunity, but (Y/N) shy nature made her try to get away as fast as possible. Meeting again on the school hallways the teenager was quick to recognize her and attempt on having a conversation with her over random topics, this continued for a few months until he finally confessed the growing feelings he had for (Y/N) who was already head over hills for him by then.
But dating Josuke came with some new experiences as well, like unwanted attention from other female students that were after his heart ‘before her’ that never missed the opportunity to throw her nasty looks or the seniors who were also delinquents but would never square up to Josuke himself. Now, her boyfriend was always with her around school so these people were rarely a problem to her but again, today wasn’t like most days.
As she rounded the corner, she almost crashed face first into the chest of a senior. She stepped back in shock and bowed her head right away, apologizing. There stood three 3rd year students who smirked down at her, they were tall, not as much as Josuke or his friend Okuyasu but still as menacing as any delinquent around town.
“What a surprise to see you alone cutie” the one that she almost crashed into spoke
“Yeah, where’s your precious boyfriend today huh?” said another
(Y/N) took a few steps back but they only seemed to get closer with smirks on their faces, she gulped as she hugged her bag into her chest. She was surrounded and it was as if Morioh was deserted at this hour, no one walked by and if being honest, its not like anyone would intervene anyway.
“I- I’m sorry, I need to get to class” as she tried to dodge and rush past them a heavy hand was placed on her shoulder pulling her back.
“Not so fast sweetheart” the third student slid his hand from her shoulder to her upped arm and tightened his hold there “No respect for your seniors?”
She visibly cringed at that, only Josuke called her sweetheart and hearing it from any man but him made her want to run away as fast as she could but the tightening grip her arm kept her in place.
“Please let me go” she said barely over a whisper, anxiety rising and trying her best not to tear up in fear.
“Now now, isn’t a little hot to wear a sweater?” the first guy tried to pull at the neck of her sweater but she flinched. Mornings were crisp when the sun was barely rising but as the sun got higher in the sky it started to get considerably warmer.
“Come on, you can take it off we don’t bite” reaching for her again and laughing among themselves she involuntarily whined, the grip on her arm persistent as they closed in on her
“What the fuck are you doing?” another voice spoke. It wasn’t the voice of her boyfriend but it was a voice that still comforted her in that moment.
“We are just having a little fun man” the one holding her laughed without looking at the owner of this new voice.
“Let go of her before I punch your teeth in, asshole” with the threat the students looked up to see Okuyasu standing just a few feet away, grip on his schoolbag tight from anger.
“Who do you think you a-“
Before another word could be said, the senior flew back from the force of Okuyasu’s punch. The others stepped back in shock and (Y/N) was quick to step behind her boyfriend’s friend.
“What the-“ the one gripping his bleeding nose looked up again, the younger delinquent grabbed him by his uniform and pulled him up, close to his face.
“You bother (Y/N) again and I’ll make you bleed in more places than your nose, I don’t care who you are” Okuyasu said loud enough for the others to hear as well and letting go they scurried away like bugs.
(Y/N) stood there, eyes still glossy and hands shaking from the whole ordeal. Okuyasu turned back to her offering a friendly smile. She wasn’t exactly close to Josuke’s friends and the interactions she had with Okuyasu and Koichi were limited to when Josuke was around since he was the one pulling them all together but she always had a good laugh when joining them around.
“Hey (Y/N), are you alright? Did they hurt you?” he placed his arm over her shoulders as he started walking towards the school again.
“I-“ she stuttered as she adjusted her sweater “I’m okay, thank you Okuyasu”
“No need to thank me!” he beamed “I don’t want anyone bothering any of my friends”
(Y/N) smiled shyly as that. She hadn’t gotten the opportunity to have a lot of conversations with her boyfriend’s friends but to hear him say she was his friend and not only his friend’s girlfriend made her happy.
“Hey Okuyasu, since Josuke is not coming to class today, would you like to have lunch together? I brought some extra food” Okuyasu’s eyes widened but so did his smile
“I would love to (Y/N)!” he almost screamed “Say, do you have any of those sausage octopus?”
“Of course, they are my favorite!”
“What?! No way, Mine too!”
