Work Text:

Oh, fuck, Katsuki thinks as he rushes down the street. It's 1pm on Christmas Eve, and he's spent the morning finishing up his shopping. Most of it is just light touches- a gold necklace for his mother, a warmer scarf for his father (who's always shivering in his old one). A shark onesie for Kirishima, because it'll match the pikachu one he bought for Kaminari. But the thing he's worried about isn't any of his family or his idiots- it's Deku. Sure, he's got comic books and a hamster plush the nerd almost cried over in a store the other day, but it's not good enough. What the fuck do you get your boyfriend for Christmas?

Katsuki's never had problems buying gifts before. Call it a gift (hah), but he's always been pretty good at choosing the right things for each person on his list. But he's never had a boyfriend for Christmas, and nobody told him how much harder it is to buy for a partner.

He wants it to be right and meaningful because yes, the great Katsuki Bakugou is maybe really soft for his stupid nerd. And he knows Izuku is gonna be ecstatic about anything, but…

He lets out a sigh. He's definitely overthinking this. Definitely overthinking .

Glancing at the shops ahead of him, Katsuki realizes he has no idea where to start.

It's in a cheesy looking boutique shop that he finds it. A thin gold chain, adorned with a small round charm stamped with the letter K. There are options to customise it, and as fucking cheesy as it is, Katsuki knows he's found what he wants.

Christmas morning goes pretty much as expected. Exchanging gifts with his family isn't a huge affair; they prefer a more relaxed approach. Katsuki is more excited to see his friends, and excuses himself as soon as it's acceptable to do so. He tosses all of his carefully wrapped gifts into a large bag and heads out the door.

Kirishima is wearing a gaudy Christmas sweater and carrying his yappy little dog when he answers the door. "Bakubro! Merry Christmas, dude!" He steps aside to welcome the blond in.

"Merry Christmas," Katsuki echoes as he walks past the taller boy and into the house. "Where should I put these?"

"Under the tree, of course!" Kirishima points to a beautifully decorated Christmas tree in the living room, gifts already piled underneath. He chuckles as they hear some kind of commotion and leaves Katsuki to settle himself in. Katsuki arranges the packages in his bag around the tree and continues through the house to find his idiots.

Most of the squad is in the kitchen. Sero has an awful dancing jingle bell hat and is currently dancing around in front of the stove with Mina. Kaminari and Jirou seem to be in an argument of some sort as they stand at the bar, each of them gesturing wildly and pointing to their phones. Kirishima seems to have disappeared into the back yard, talking to who Katsuki presumes is…

“Deku!” He shouts from the back door, watching as the boy’s head whips up from the lights he’s fixing to look at him.

“Kacchan!” It’s not three seconds before green hair thumps into his chest and the smaller boy almost lifts him off the ground. It’s only been a week since they’ve seen each other, both busy with family over the holiday break, but Katsuki can tell Izuku missed him like he missed Izuku.

“Is that… glitter???” Katsuki squirms to get out of the hug as he sees red sparkling in his boyfriend’s hair. Izuku giggles and steps back, moving his head side to side so Katsuki sees the extent of the glittery nightmare.

“It’s red and green!!! Christmas colors!!!” He sounds so excited Katsuki can’t even be mad.

“Alright, everybody’s here, is it present time?” Mina calls from the kitchen, and everyone hollers their agreement and clamors to the living room.

When it’s all said and done, there’s plenty of laughter and shenanigans to go around. Mina has several bows stuck to her horns and ribbons tied into her hair. Jirou’s wearing a fucking gigantic hoodie Mina bought her, since “you’re always huddled in a blanket anyway.” Kaminari and Kirishima are in their hoodies, fighting with wrapping paper tubes. Sero has his guitar out, a shiny new capo on the neck and a new pick in his hand. He’d broken his old capo weeks prior and hadn’t bought a new one, so Kaminari had taken the opportunity to get one and decorate it; “C E L L O P H A N E” runs across the front, with a little electricity bolt on the side (because why not). Izuku fiddles with a leather-bound notebook and a new set of pens, and Katsuki’s adjusting a new headset Izuku got him after hearing him complain of his cutting out. Of course the boy had gone all out- painting Katsuki’s signature orange X on the sides and changing the color of the ear cushions.

Izuku stands to go somewhere and Katsuki sees his chance. He hops up and reaches into his bag for the last gift he brought with him, before chasing after the boy trailing glitter everywhere.

“Deku.” The boy in question is at the kitchen bar picking out cookies.

“Yes, Kacchan?”

“Put the cookies down for a minute.”

Izuku turns around and Katsuki has never been more anxious about a gift in his life. Here goes nothing, right? He pulls the box out of his pocket and hands it over to his beloved.

“Kacchan… what’s this?” Izuku turns the box over in his hands, looking back up at Katsuki.

“It’s… your last gift. Go on, open it.”

Izuku opens the box, gasping as he looks down at a gold chain and charms. The ‘K’ sits in the middle, an orange jewel to the left and a green jewel to the right of it.

“Kacchan… it’s beautiful.”

“I- you don’t have to wear it, I know you don’t really… wear jewelry-”

“I do now. Put it on me?” Izuku hands the box to Katsuki and spins around to let him clip the chain on.

Katsuki is a little bit shocked, but picks the necklace out of the box and fastens it around Izuku’s neck. It looks even better than he’d hoped it would.

Izuku turns back around and looks up at him. “How does it look?”

“It looks amazing, Izuku. It really does. You… I thought it would be, like… a piece of me with you. When I can’t be by your side, you’ve got me with you anyway.”

There are tears in Izuku’s eyes as he takes Katsuki’s hands. “Kacchan… It’s perfect. I- I- th-thank you…”

“Yeah. Merry Christmas, nerd.” Izuku chuckles at the change of pace.

“Merry Christmas, Kacchan.”
