Chapter Text
The first time I met my father, I was 6 years old. My mother, wasn't really a mother per say. She would leave me home alone, not really take care of me, at 6 I could already use the oven to cook meals for myself. Nothing fancy, things like tinned spaghetti. One day she snapped, I think it was because her boyfriend of that month broke up with her, she had kept going back to this one, so why she was surprised I don't know... But she snapped, decided I was the reason, I was the problem.
I had never really known parental love before I met my father. I mean he greeted me with a hug, and I hadn't really had one of those before. He was amazing though, we got along almost instantly. He was like my best friend, rather than my dad. I loved him.
I was 10 when I found out he was a wolf. I was shocked and confused. Those things only existed in books... I avoided my dad for weeks, it was really hard to be away from him, but a wolf? That was crazy. Eventually I did come to terms with it, and that's when I found out about the vampires too. Nessie, my dad's wife, was half vampire, and all her family were vampires too. I liked Nessie's family. They were all very kind to me.
About a year after those events, my dad told me about the wolf pack he was apart of. I wasn't allowed to meet them yet, according to my dad I was 'too young' to be completely in that world. Of course I got angry at him, I was allowed to spend time with vampires, why not wolves!? So when my dad went on his patrols, I stayed home angry, with Nessie.
I finally got to meet the wolves when I turned 15. I pestered my dad for weeks, and weeks. And finally Nessie was the one to convince him i was time. I think she was just as fed up of me begging them both. I met them, and they were the coolest though, dorkest people I had ever met.
Emily and Sam were extremely nice, maybe the nicest from the group, they had a small son too! I liked to keep him entertained most days when I went to their house.
Paul was sassy and joking around with him and Jared was the best!
Quil and Embry were mostly quiet but they would play board games with me whenever I wanted!
Leah scared me a little, she rarely smiled. But she did when she was with me.
Seth was quiet too. I had a crush on him instantly. He was so cute, and he smiled all goofy like. And whenever he spoke to me he stumbled over his words. And the crush only got harder as I got older.
When I turned 16, my crush on Seth was overwhelming. And he didn't help matters. He would always be around my house hanging out with dad. He would sometimes meet me from school and walk me home. He was the sweetest person I had ever met, and after meeting him, none of the boys my age at school did anything for me.
However my dad said Seth was completely and utterly out of the question. I never understood why, I thought me being with a sweet guy was something my dad would want. At 16 I couldn't understand why, but it was probably the age gap. Seth was twenty. Much too old for me, but I didn't care at that age. I was determined to have him.
School got busier and my exams started and suddenly I didn't have time for Seth anymore. I spent most of my time with my two friends; Katie and Jamie. Life got so busy I saw Seth less and less. Though my crush never went away.
When I turned 17 I started to think maybe I should get over my little crush. I hadn't spoken to him in a little while, he was busy with wolf stuff and I was busy with school stuff. I liked him so much, the idea of not liking him anymore hurt.
And eventually around the time I had turned 18, I never saw the pack anymore. I was studying in college, Nessie had a baby; my little brother; Connor. So life got in the way.
"Amy!" My dad called me from my room, I put my pen down and closed my little notebook and hid it in the usual draw and left my room.
"Yes dad?" I smiled as I skipped down the stairs. I smiled even more when I saw him, my dad; Jacob Black. He didn't even look like my dad, he looked so young. Those magic wolfy genes making him always look perfect. I hadn't triggered the wolf gene, we weren't even sure if I had the wolf gene in me. Nessie stood by my dad, holding Connor, whom was giggling as per usual.
"We're going to the Uley's for dinner, wanna come?" Dad asked. I thought about it for a second, Seth might be there. I shook the small thought from my mind, though the feeling in my heart didn't go away.
"I've got a lot of work to do" I frowned, thinking of the college essays I really should be working on. Rather than writing a silly 'About Me' page in my notebook.
"Come on love, take a break" Nessie smiled at me. I smiled back at her, I loved Nessie, she was the best mum ever.
"Okay" I answered, giving in. I ran back to my room to get ready. Stripping out of the scruffy clothes I was in. I dressed in a olive green pair of leggings, and a plain black tank top. Not wanting anything fancy. I slipped on my black converse. And checked my hair. I loved my hair, long black and shiny, it might be my favourite thing about me. Vain as that might be.
We left the house and dad drove us to Sam's house, it wasn't too far.
"Seth should be there" Dad said randomly to me as he pulled into the off road drive up to Sam's house. I nodded not really knowing what to say. It surprised me though, Dad never seemed like he liked the idea of me and Seth. Telling me Seth would be there was very out of character.
We arrived and I jumped out the chair to run and hug Emily. I hugged Sam and their son; Caleb too.
Dad wa right about Seth being here. I smiled without thinking slightly annoyed that I couldn't help but smile near him. We hugged and I sighed happily when he hugged me tightly. It felt like I had been holding my breath since the last time I saw him.
"Would you go for a walk with me after dinner?" He asked me quietly. It stunned me slightly, I wasn't expecting him to ask...
I nodded "Or we could walk now?" I asked, wanting time with just him straight away. It was like all those feelings I felt for him came rushing back. And they hit me hard.
Seth took my hand in his, and I turned back to my dad, he looked annoyed but he was nodding, but he wasn't looking at me, he was looking at Seth.
I left with Seth, letting him lead me through the woods, neither of us spoke yet, but it wasn't an awkward silence. Thankfully I had never felt awkward near him.
Soon we stopped walking, we found this giant rock in a clearing of the wood, I had been here before with dad. We both sat, sitting close to one another.
"Amy, do you know what imprinting is?" Seth then asked me.
"No, sorry" I answer, I hadn't read much about the wolves, not that there was a lot of books on this.
"Imprinting is when a wolf meets their soulmate, it doesn't always have to be romantic, but the wolf will then protect and always be there for that person" He explained, I listened closely, and started wondering why he was telling me this. My heart felt heavy, and like it would stop, he was looking at me in such a way. I could feel the amount of care he had for me...
"Seth, why are you telling me this?" I ask, he look both my hands and held onto them close to his chest.
"When we first met, I imprinted on you"
"You imprinted on me?" I repeated, still processing. Seth had imprinted on me.. I thought over the entire conversation, thinking over exactly what he had said to me.
"I'm your soulmate?" I stammered, the words just barely coming out.
"Yes" He smiled softly. "It doesn't have to be a romantic relationship, me telling you this isn't me forcing you into a relationship, it's just me telling you"
"Oh Seth, I have liked you from the moment I met you" I smiled, his face lit up and he moved a tiny bit closer to me. "However, it has been a while since we spent time together, how about we start hanging out again and see where it goes?" I almost couldn't believe what I was saying, but in my heart I knew it was the right decision.
"Of course Amy, I wouldn't want to rush anything" He smiled, pulling me into a gentle hug. I smiled into the hug thinking to myself that I finally got my wish.
We spent a little longer in the woods, talking and catching up on everything we had missed over the last few months. I eventually got a text from my dad asking me where I was, so Seth and I headed back to Sam's.
Once we reached the little house, the entire pack were sitting on the benches outside in the garden, all grinning at us like complete dorks. I hadn't seen them in a long time, I hadn't realised how much I missed them.
"You've grown up!" Paul grinned, jumping up to hug me.
"Well that does tend to happen" I joked, making the others laugh. I joined them on an empty seat, Seth followed and sat closely by me, our legs were pressed close and our hands were joint under the table.
I noticed my dad's glare on Seth, and Seth pulled away from me, almost falling off the edge of the bench.
"You told her then?" Jared asks. Both Seth and I nod without saying anything.
"So you two are the new couple" Quil said in a silly voice.
"No, we don't want to rush things" Seth answered back, I saw my dad smile slightly at his answer.
"I'm guessing everyone knows?" I asked, unsure. They all nodded.
"We knew when we first met you, Seth didn't even have to tell us" Leah laughed, I looked up at Seth, and his cheeks had gone a little red.
I felt weird, being the only one who didn't know, I probably would have been jumping for the skies if they had told me when I was younger. I guess Seth imprinting on me explains why I like him so much, I guess. I wasn't sure actually, I really needed to read up on imprinting.
Once the sky started to get darker, we decided to go home. Dad stayed as he was patrolling tonight. I climbed into the car with Nessie and Connor and once we had started driving Nessie smiled at me knowingly.
"Big news"
"I'm still processing I guess" I answer her.
"You've liked him for so long, I thought you would be really happy" Mum said.
"I guess, it's just weird I guess" I replied, it was weird.
We stayed quiet after that, I carried Connor inside when we got home, I put him into his play area in the living room and said goodnight to mum, wanting an early night.
I got ready and climbed into bed when I decided to text Seth.
'It was really nice to see you again'
It was almost instantly I got a reply from Seth
'It was nice seeing you too!'
I smiled, and plugged my phone in and curled into my bed. Today had been weird, I'd have to write it in my journey tomorrow, though I don't think I'd ever forget today.
