Work Text:

“NO!” Midoriya awoke with a terrified start, his green hair stuck to his forehead from sweating through the awful nightmare he just experienced. It had been a few years since he dreamed the terrifying dream that shook him to his very center. Like before, it was the same traumatic scene that’s been passing through his head since he was little. The dream started out with Midoriya as a young boy, no older than 5. He had just got home from school after Kacchan and his goons picked on him and called him a useless deku. His father promised to take him out to get ice cream and that’s where they were heading. It always started out pleasant, Midoriya and his father calmly walking to the ice cream parlor only a couple blocks away. It was within this moment that things turned for the worse. Midoriya watched as his mind converted the peaceful dream into an ugly nightmare. Street thugs jumped out of the shadows and attacked his father. One person held him down while the other was beating him. Midoriya screamed for his father while his father screamed for him to run. But before he could, one of the thugs pulled out a knife. Just as young Midoriya screamed, he woke up.

Heart still beating erratically, Midoriya knew he wouldn’t be able to go to sleep. Usually, he would go to his mother and she would comfort him and tell him that it’s okay. However, with being in the dorms, that wasn’t possible. Knowing his mother was not an option, he knew the only person left was his boyfriend, Shouji. Midoriya still found it funny how they became a thing. It was after they came back from the forest training camp. Everyone was still shaken up from the villain attack and Midoriya had to spend his time in the nurse’s office remedying his wounds. A few people came and went, giving him “get well” cards and flowers. However, one person in particular visited more often than others. Before he knew it, Midoriya and Shouji were talking to each other getting to know each other better. Midoriya watched as his friendship with the multi-armed teen turned into something more. Before long, Shouji was asking the greenette to be his boyfriend and Midoriya was accepting his proposal.

Getting out of bed, Midoriya made his way to Shouji’s bedroom. Knocking lightly, he entered when he heard a quiet “come in.” Midoriya stood before his boyfriend, no words being exchanged. Shouji opened up his arms and Midoriya ran right into them. Shouji remained quiet as he held his boyfriend in his arms as he cried. After a few minutes, Midoriya stopped crying and was now laying next to Shouji in his bed. “Do you want to tell me what happened?”

“I had a nightmare.”

“What kind of nightmare?” Shouji wanted Midoriya to talk about it but didn’t want to pry too much.

“It’s a dream I’ve had for years now. I thought I finally got over it but tonight proved me wrong. I lost my father when I was really young and my mother took it the hardest. I had to watch as she became depressed and shut herself away from the world. Eventually, she was able to move on and things returned to normal. Then the nightmares started. It was always the same one. I would see my father get hurt and there would be nothing I could do about it. My mom helped me through it and the nightmares stopped. But, they came back and she’s not here to comfort me.” Midoriya started to cry again and Shouji wiped away every tear that fell from his eyes.

“I know I’m not your mother, but you have me. I will stay up all night if I have to and comfort you until you get tired of me.”

“I could never get tired of you.” Midoriya kissed Shouji’s forehead before snuggling his head under his chin.

“Do you want to sleep here tonight?”

“I would like that.”

So that’s how Midoriya and Shouji ended up laying in bed together, wide awake, whispering sweet nothings. Shouji had one hand in his lover’s soft hair and a second one tracing lines up and down his back. Midoriya stroked his lover’s face, lingering on his cheek while giving him a soft smile. “How did we end up together,” Midoriya questioned as he stared into the eyes of his boyfriend.

“You were being reckless as usual and someone had to check on you so you didn’t do anything else reckless.”

“I’m not that bad. I did what anybody would have done.”

“Not many people would repeatedly break their bones trying to stop a villain.”

“I guess I’m just special.”

“You’re right about that. You are a unique, special individual who I have the pleasure of sleeping next to. I could never want anything else.” Shouji kissed Midoriya’s neck and Midoriya let out a little giggle.

“Shouji-ha ha ha-stop that. You’re gonna-ha ha ha-wake the others up.” Shouji ignored his boyfriend’s pleas and continued peppering his neck with tickling kisses. Pretty soon, the giggling turned into laughter. Shouji stopped and was now chuckling at Midoriya who was trying to catch his breath.

“I love you, Midoriya.”

“I love you too, Shouji. I hope we didn’t wake anyone up.”

“We probably did but I don’t care. They can deal with it. How many times am I gonna get to spend time with my favorite person?” Midoriya’s face began to blush and Shouji took this time to kiss his cheek, making Midoriya blush deeper. “You’re too cute.”

“I know I am.” Midoriya pressed himself against Shouji’s chest and within a minute, fell asleep. Shouji watched as his boyfriend slept and made a promise to himself that he would help Midoriya with his nightmares. With that done, Shouji himself fell asleep holding the body of his beloved.

The next morning…

Midoriya awoke to the sound of someone knocking on the door. He asked who it was while rubbing away the tiredness in his eyes. “Midoriya, it’s Kirishima. Just letting you know it’s time to get up so you’re not late for breakfast.”

“Thank you, Kirishima.” Midoriya stretched, the bottom of his shirt riding up. He turned toward Shouji and his heart began to melt. Shouji’s hair was messy and he was slightly snoring. He was truly beautiful and Midoriya felt blessed to have him in his life. “Hey, Shouji, it’s time to get up.” Shouji let out a muffled groan before falling back asleep. “C’mon, if we don’t hurry, we’ll be late for school.”

“Five more minutes, please.”

“I’m sorry, but I-“ Midoriya was interrupted when suddenly he was pulled back down to bed. Shouji had his arm wrapped around his waist and was not letting go. “We have to get up.”

“Only if you agree to give me a kiss.”

“Fine, one kiss.” Midoriya leaned in and gave Shouji a kiss on the nose. That didn’t please his boyfriend, because before he knew it, he was pulled back in and a kiss was planted on Midoriya’s lips. The kiss was soft and slow and Midoriya found it hard to pull away. Luckily, Shouji did and Midoriya was left a blushing mess.

“What a great way to start the morning.” Midoriya playfully elbowed Shouji which earned him a laugh.

“You are so endearing when you’re half-asleep.” With that said, Midoriya got up and got dressed, Shouji not too far behind. They both headed downstairs where they were greeted with good mornings and a big breakfast.

“Morning everyone.” Midoriya greeted.

“Hey, Midoriya, what were you and Shouji doing last night?” Kirishima asked.

“What do you mean?” Midoriya questioned, trying to contain his growing blush.

“I saw you go into his room and shortly after I heard you two laughing. Anything you wanna mention?”

Midoriya was too flustered to say anything. Thankfully, Shouji stepped in, “He had a hard time sleeping so he came to me for help. Now if you will excuse us, we have breakfast to eat.” Shouji picked Midoriya up bridal style and carried him out of the room.

That following day, class went by as normal. Tortuous training from Mr. Aizawa that left everyone sore and boring classes made up most of the day. Back at the dorms, people were discussing what they were planning to do for the weekend. Aoyama suggested a beach trip but that would be for the future during the summer. Midoriya planned on staying in and hanging out with his boyfriend. Luckily, Shouji planned on doing the same thing.

When the weekend did arrive, Midoriya decided to make a homemade dinner and share it with Shouji. However, he would have to go to the store to pick up the things to make Shouji’s favorite meal. Before he knew it, Shouji was being dragged into town with his boyfriend to go grocery shopping. The trees were blooming, trying to shake off the last bits of winter. The couple passed under a few cherry blossom trees and petals fell into Midoriya’s hair. Shouji fought the urge to laugh at how cute Midoriya looked with cherry blossoms in his fluffy hair. Once at the supermarket, the two split up to find all the items they needed. Once, Shouji found Midoriya trying to reach something on a high shelf but was having trouble. Being the good boyfriend he was, Shouji picked Midoriya up so he could reach the top shelf.

After they left the store, they stopped at the farmer’s market to buy fresh strawberries. Midoriya even bought chocolate to coat the strawberries in. They returned to the dorms and Midoriya started making dinner. It wasn’t too much later the couple was sitting down to katsudon, takoyaki, and squid ink pasta. They ate, making small conversation here and there, and washed the dishes when they were finished. Before too long, it was bedtime and the two of them were heading upstairs. Shouji offered to share his bed with Midoriya, but he said it wasn’t necessary.

Later that night, Midoriya had the same nightmare as before. When he entered Shouji’s room, Shouji just smiled and hugged his boyfriend. That night, Shouji stayed awake feeding chocolate-covered strawberries to Midoriya while drinking hot chocolate. Afterwards, they went up to the roof to stargaze. They spent most of the night pointing out different constellations and holding hands. They shifted closer to each other until Shouji had his arm around Midoriya’s shoulder and Midoriya’s head on Shouji’s chest.

“You didn’t have to stay up with me, you know.”

“Don’t be silly. I want to stay up with you.”

“Thank you for helping me through my problem.”

“I’ll always be here for you, remember that.”

“Can I have a kiss?”

“You can have all the kisses you want.” Shouji kissed Midoriya on the lips and tasted the remnants of chocolate from before. As the two lovebirds laid there on the roof of the school, Midoriya couldn’t help but be thankful for the comforting tenderness he has been blessed with.
