“Hyung, please. You have to come! You’re not seriously considering just staying home, are you?”

Namjoon sighs, he’s heard this all too many times already and it seems like a certain Park Jimin won’t stop unless he really does say no. “Min, I’ve told you this already. I don’t want to go and besides, what’s so bad about staying home?”

Jimin lets out a groan, “It’s New Years! You should be out and having drinks, you know ringing in the new year. Besides, what are you going to do here? It’s kind of sad to be alone on new years , hyung.”

Namjoon just rolls his eyes. Okay but while it is kind of sad to be alone, he really doesn’t have the energy to be mingling with people. He just wants to take it easy. Maybe pop open a few beer cans, put on some movie on the tv and chill. Namjoon doesn't think there’s anything wrong with that. Besides, being in a crowded space filled with so many people, either all so drunk or horny doesn’t excite him that much.

Yeah, no, thank you.

“Yeah but whatever, I’ll think of something to do. Why do you want me to go so badly anyways? Jungkook’s already going with you, it's not like you need me there.”

Jimin lets out another groan, this time flailing his arms around and slouching down more on the couch. He kind of looks funny, Namjoon thinks but he doesn’t let out a laugh and instead waits for him to say something. Eventually, Jimin fixes himself on the couch and gives Joon a pointed look.

“Well, sue me if I just wanted to spend the new years with my best friend. But seriously hyung, I just want you to loosen up and let go. I know how shitty these last couple of months have been especially because of that one who should not be named, but please, don’t spend new years alone. I want you to be happy and preferably shitfaced with lots of alcohol.”

Jimin grins at the end, a smile that Namjoon knows all too well. But, Jimin’s right, so he returns the smile. These past couple of months for Namjoon have just been...shitty, to say the least. Not only because of the one who should not be named but there’s just been other factors that contributed to it.

The one who should not be named just pushed it to its tipping point.

“Yeah, fuck him. He was an asshole.”

Jimin laughs at that and Namjoon joins him, “So what do you say, hyung? You still don’t want to come?”

“Ugh, fine. I’ll go.”

───

So that’s how Namjoon finds himself, a couple hours later, at a party that was a little overcrowded for his liking. Though to tell you honestly, as much as Namjoon had not really wanted to be at this party in the first place, it wasn’t too bad.

The music was alright, everyone seemed to just be doing their own thing while they waited for the new year to arrive, drinking and talking. Some were even dancing. It was what he needed honestly, a type of different distraction.

Namjoon doesn’t really want to admit it loudly but he’s kind of glad Jimin convinced him to come. If he didn’t, he’d be stuck at home probably wallowing in his own self pity and going into a bit of a small spiral --- that was definitely not how he wanted to end the year.

This was nice though.

Jimin and Jungkook were off dancing, Namjoon joined them for a little bit but he left them and went to grab himself a drink. He did want to get shitfaced, so he had to start somewhere and well, he wanted to forget the last couple of months with lots of alcohol.

As he walks over to where the drinks are at, Namjoon passes a group of people who are either grinding on each other or sucking faces. Something inside of him pulls, a bit of jealousy runs through his body and somehow, he’s thinking of his past relationship - how he wanted to be one of them.

But then the better half of him thinks that if he was to do that with someone, Namjoon doesn’t want it to be with his ex.

Oh, fuck that.

Namjoon lets out a snicker as he spares another look. He eventually finds where the drinks are at. It was situated at a corner and while it may have looked like it was decked out with a lot of alcohol, not much was really left. At least, he’d found a couple of beers and took all of it.

That’s when he felt someone next to him and heard a laugh.

“Damn, where are you taking all of that? Can I join you?”

Namjoon turns to see who it is and he swears, the movement in the room slowed down and all he could see was him.

─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───

Seokjin has given up finding his friends in this crowd of people.

Yoongi and Hoseok had said something about getting drinks but it’s been like thirty minutes and they’re already probably sucking each other’s faces somewhere. Meanwhile, Taehyung found someone and well, he’s practically left alone.

At least they were getting some action. He would too but it seems like there’s some curse on him when being in some sort of relationship. Either he gets stood up, the other flakes and well, most of the time, they’re a playing bastard. It’s pathetic really and well, Seokjin’s tired of it all.

So to drown out his loneliness, he looks for some alcohol. Seokjin wants to get shitfaced and welcome the new year, with no recollection of the past. In his quest to find some booze, he bumps into people who are all either too drunk or too horny.

God, how nice must that be.

He eventually finds where most of the alcohol is located and Seokjin sees someone stand over the table, grabbing all of what seems to be beer cans into his arms. He oddly finds it cute -- endearing even, and so, he lets out a laugh.

Seokjin then stood next to him and said, “Damn, where are you taking all of that? Can I join you?”

It looks like he startled the other, if going by how big his eyes went and his mouth forming into a little O. Cute. Seokjin then realizes what he just said and well, it was his turn to look a little surprised, “Oh my god, that sounded a little creepy. Sorry, nevermind that.”

The other guy, it seems, finally looks like he’s gotten out of his little moment and kind of just gives him a shy smile.

“Well, I mean you can. If - if you’d like. These are like the ones left, all the other ones are kind of empty. So, ”

The other hands him a beer and Seokjin takes it.

“Do you want to get out here? Drink these somewhere less..crowded? I’m Seokjin, by the way. Kim Seokjin.”

Seokjin doesn’t really know where this sudden boost of confidence came from but, it was nice. He’s also kind of glad the other didn't look at him too weirdly. They are strangers after all, much less they were at a party.

But then the other smiles at him and he notices the dimples, “Oh? Another Kim! I’m Namjoon, Kim Namjoon. I would shake your hand or something but I’m kind of...occupied. But yeah, that would be nice.”

The other guy, Namjoon, rambles and once again, Seokjin somehow feels endeared by it. His dimples seem to have really done it.

Seokjin then takes the other beer cans out of Namjoon’s hands and leads them out of there and finds a somewhat less crowded spot by the stairs. The two took a can of their own and for a minute, it was quiet between them. Though the quietness didn’t feel forced, it was quite comforting.

After a couple of sips of their beer, conversation began to flow between them and they began to just talk about everything and anything. It was nice, Seokjin thinks -- being with Namjoon and drinking these beers were good. There were some awkward pauses but overall, it was great.

The beer really loosened things up between them and it felt like they were in their own world for a bit. They talked about a lot of things, touched on some certain topics and they both felt good -- better than when they were alone.

“Do you have any new year’s resolution, Seokjin-sshi?” Namjoon asks.

“Can new year, new me be one of them?” Seokjin says teasingly, laughing as he does so. Namjoon really doesn’t say anything but does let out a hearty laugh and if you really ask Seokjin, it might have struck something inside of him.

“Okay but, for real though. I think a new year’s resolution of mine would have to be to stop getting played. Is that even a resolution when I have no control over it? I don’t know but I’m tired of it. I don’t know, I feel like I have this curse on me.”

Namjoon hums, “A curse on what? Shitty relationships?”

“Yeah, it seems like with anyone I’m with or something, I would be on the short end of the stick and get played. It’s kind of pathetic but I think for this new year, I want to be able to stop that...you know?” Seokjin takes a swig of his beer, letting out a small laugh. But it’s true though, it’s a curse of his and he hates it.

Seokjin’s tired of being the one who's getting hurt and feels used. He’s tired of the wasted tears on someone who didn’t deserve them and who was just a shitty person. Seokjin has done that too many times and he wants to end it. He wants to feel real happiness with someone instead of feeling like he’s used.

Letting that out, Seokjin feels the tension between him and Namjoon change a bit. It had felt like it suddenly went a little more serious than before. Seokjin doesn’t really know how to feel about it changing because for once, he feels good to be with someone other than his friends and being with Joon...he feels genuinely happy.

It had gone quiet for a moment and Seokjin saw a little furrow on Namjoon’s brow. Then it softens as he looks at him, “I’m sorry, that happened to you. I...I know what it feels like. I actually just got out of this shitty relationship a couple months back and honestly, he was an asshole. I don’t know why it took me so long to realize.”

Seokjin shouldn’t but it comes out of him stopping and well, a small chuckle slipped out of his lips, “I guess we both have our fair share of shitty relationships.”

This time around, Namjoon is the one to let out a chuckle, “I guess we do.”

“Can I ask what happened to your previous relationship? Or is that overstepping? I don’t want you to feel like you have to share it with me. If you don’t, then that’s okay too.”

Namjoon takes another sip of his beer then smiles at him, “Nah, it’s okay. I don’t mind, It doesn’t really affect me anymore. He really was an asshole though. Thinking back on it, the whole relationship was shitty. I guess it just took me to a breaking point to realize it.”

“What happened?”

“He was the type that was so...self centered? Like obsessively. All he really cared about was himself and put himself on this high pedestal. I guess..I was just so i don’t know foolishly in love to not really realize that he never really cared about me? He was my first serious relationship, well kind of, so I painted this picture in my head and well, I think I got caught up in all of that.”

Oh. Oh.

Seokjin definitely knows what that feels like because he’d also got caught up in his own imagination. It especially sucks when the picture you’ve had in your mind isn’t what it comes out to be in reality.

“What pushed you to the breaking point?”

Namjoon lets out a sigh, wistfully smiling. Seokjin at that moment, really realizes that It really did seem like they were in their own world because being in a room with music playing and people doing whatever the fuck they are doing with their intoxicated minds, all of that didn’t matter. They were so focused on each other and for the first time in a long time, Seokjin felt like he was himself again.

“A lot of other things were just happening all at once. It was..it was overwhelming. I had other stuff going on too and then, we were constantly fighting and..it just kind of exploded? He said some hurtful things and I just...I was over it. I had enough. So I may have slammed the door on his face.”

This time Seokjin doesn’t even feel too guilty about letting out a laugh, “Good, he deserves it.”

Namjoon joins him laughing, “Oh fuck yeah, but then I had started to kind of spiral? I mean, I’m okay now..I think.”

“You think?”

“Well...I think I’m in a much better headspace than when I was a couple months back.”

Seokjin smiles, “Oh, that’s good. We deserve to be happy again.”

Namjoon returns the smile, “We do.”

─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───

The moment that Namjoon had first locked eyes with Seokjin, it had really felt like everything really slowed down and all he could focus on was him. Then he’d laughed and said something but Namjoon was just kind of all caught in the moment and just stared at the other. He had thought that he probably looked like an idiot but Seokjin hadn’t said anything and he was kind of glad for that.

Then somehow, the next thing that happened, they took a little quiet spot by the stairs, opened a beer can and like some sort of liquid courage, conversation had been easy. They had talked about a lot of things, even joked with one another and for the first time in a long time, Namjoon felt happy, felt like himself more than ever in the last couple of months. He let himself let go when talking with Seokjin, feeling a sense of comfort and ease with the other.

Then the tension somewhat changed to a little more serious one when Seokjin talked about his past failed relationships. It was like a gate was somehow opened for them, as if they had gotten a little more because of a feeling they all know too well. As Namjoon had shared about his own previous relationship, that was when he had really felt like they had really bonded.

Namjoon felt whole again.

Talking about his previous shitty relationship with practically a stranger, it felt kind of liberating. To Namjoon, it had felt like a weight being lifted out of his chest. A feeling he didn’t know he was carrying (maybe it’s always been there ever since after the breakup and this time he’d really realized it) but as he conversed with Seokjin, he felt lighter — not feeling so constrained anymore.

And so, they continued to talk more and just let the world outside of their little bubble pass on. Though it wasn’t too long before their little bubble had been popped due to one certain Park Jimin.

“Hyung! We were looking everywhere for you — wait, you’re with someone. Oh, hi there ,” Jimin says, his voice gone a little bit high pitched when his eyes had settled onto Seokjin. Then a smile (a smirk, really — a mischievous smirk that Namjoon knows all too well) creeps on his face and Jimin waves his hand to greet the other.

Seokjin stands up, reaches out his hand to which Jimin gladly shakes and right next to him, Namjoon sees it all play out while he’s sitting down. It seems like wheels are already turning in Jimin’s mind and Namjoon knows he’ll get teased about it later.

“I’m Jimin, Namjoon’s hyung friend. You are?”

“Seokjin. Namjoon and I just happened to meet actually. I took his beers, and we..we started to talk. A lot.”

Jimin hums cheerfully, the smile on his only seems to widen at that, “Ah, okay. Sorry did I interrupt you guys?”

Namjoon stands up from where he is , and stands next to Seokjin. He was about to say something but then Seokjin beats him to it, “No, it’s okay. You weren’t. Namjoonie and I were just talking anyway. You came in perfect time actually..I should also really start looking for my friends too. They’re here somewhere, hopefully they didn’t forget about me.”

So with that, Seokjin takes his leave but not before saying to Namjoon, “I’ll see you around? Maybe when it’s the countdown, I’ll come find you and we can, uh, continue this? I’m going to make sure my friends are okay.”

If he wasn’t suddenly caught up with whatever Seokjin was implying by that, Namjoon might have noticed the tinge of redness coloring through Seokjin’s ears. All at that, Seokjin has kind of rendered him speechless and seems like words can’t formulate out of his mouth.

“Yes! Please come and find him before the countdown. Or Namjoon hyung will, whichever happens first.” Jimin’s voice breaks out of reverie, obvious in voice that he’s smiling teasingly. So Namjoon just kind of nods along — not really knowing what he’s nodding as he’s practically still reeling in.

Seokjin doesn’t say anything more but just turns to him and smiles.

“Okay, I’ll see you then. Nice meeting you, Jimin.”

With that, Seokjin excuses himself and walks towards the other direction. Namjoon could only follow him with his eyes and as he disappeared once again into the sea of people, Jimin nudged him at his side.

“So, care to tell me about who you just met?”

Jimin’s obviously teasing, especially going by his voice and smile. Namjoon just shakes his head, smiling — dimples and all.

─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───

Seokjin knows that he’s red as a tomato without even having to look at a mirror.

He doesn’t really know why he even said what he said — exactly what were they going to continue when it strikes midnight? Seokjin honestly just said the first thing on his mind and well, he said that. He starts to recall that he even said some sort of nickname — Namjoonie?? Seokjin kind of wants to blame it on the beers he just drank but it could only be the way that’s making his head fuzzy and spewing out such things. .

Though a part of him also really does want to find Namjoon when the countdown begins and maybe, just maybe, he wants to enter the new year with the other and see where it takes them.

But in all seriousness and honesty, Seokjin had enjoyed the talks with Namjoon — it’s usually quite hard for him to open up like that to someone new but somehow, he finds himself being at such ease as they practically had talked about everything. Namjoon had even gotten him to share about his woes with relationships — something he’s never really done before other than ranting about it to his friends.

Seokjin can tell that Namjoon is genuine — there’s no shitty shortcuts about him, he’s straight to the point, very thorough and it has Seokjin feeling something.

Attractiveness maybe?

Namjoon is attractive. Seokjin thinks anyone can very well see that and his dimples are very much indeed an added bonus to the whole mix of him. But he also thinks that besides all of that, Namjoon is a good person. From what he’s told Seokjin about his previous relationship, Namjoon is a good guy and he definitely didn’t deserve being treated the way he did.

Seokjin knows what it feels like to be treated that way (way too many times) but maybe, that’s also why he feels something different about Namjoon. Because Seokjin knows that if anything, Namjoon is not the type that plays around with people’s feelings. From their time together, Seokjin gathers that Namjoon takes care of other’s feelings, he tends to them with such gentleness — it’s warming.

In his search for either Yoongi and Hoseok or Taehyung, all Seokjin really could think about was the countdown and finding Namjoon. Luckily, he didn’t have to search that much for his friends when he’d spot Yoongi and Hoseok by the kitchen, nursing a red cup and talking amongst themselves.

“There you are! Have you two finally stopped sucking each other’s faces and joined the party again?” Seokjin calls out to them. Both Hoseok and Yoongi groan,

“Ah hyung, please.”

Seokjin giggles.

“Sorry hyung, we kind of left you..stranded earlier.”

“No, it’s okay. I actually found someone..and we’ve been talking.” Seokjin says, clearing his throat. He doesn’t know why he’s suddenly feeling shy while saying that, it’s not like something that he should be shy about..not really.

Hoseok looked at him quite incredulously, “And what are you still doing here with us? Shouldn’t you be with him then?”

Yoongi snorts at that and adds, “Hoseokie’s kind of right, hyung. Why are you still with us if you found somebody?”

At that Seokjin kind of just rolls his eyes and jokingly said, “Already pushing me away when I just found you two again? Okay but like the good friend that I am, I had to find you guys and make sure you didn’t fall in a ditch or something. Besides, his friend came over too.”

Hoseok had then started to just ask about who this person is and Seokjin eventually tells the both of them what happened -- how they even met and just started to talk, all of the jazz that went down. When Seokjin mentioned about him opening up about his past relationships with a stranger, both Hoseok and Yoongi couldn't even believe it themselves.

“Oh damn, you really went there. How did he take it?”

“Surprisingly well. Okay, but he did also share with me that he also had felt something similar with his ex and we just kind of bonded more with that? I don’t know.”

Seokjin continued to talk more about his talks with Namjoon and as he recalls all of it again, there’s a bit of tingly feeling that sits right in stomach. Needless to say, Seokjin was kind of flustered and even more so, when he’d mentioned that he would find him again right before the countdown.

Hoseok practically bounces at that and Yoongi looks at him so fondly - gummy smile and all.

“Oh hyung, you’re definitely getting some tonight. Starting the new year with a bang, am I right?”

Seokjin reddens at that but is quick to dismiss it, “Oh my god, no. Stop that, it’s not gonna happen.”

Yoongi laughs, shrugging, “Okay but, never say never,”

Seokjin groans, “Yoongi, please not you too.”

Hoseok and Yoongi continue to tease him before it all sorts of shifted into a more serious feel (as serious in a room filled with people and loud people).

“Who knows, you might get a friend out of it or something more.” Hoseok winks.

Seokjin doesn’t say anything but just smiles.

Yeah, maybe he’ll make a friend out of Namjoon or something.

Who knows.

─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───

Namjoon can’t lie for the life of him so if you were to ask him if he's waiting for Seokjin to find him before the countdown, he’d outright admit that he is. There’s really no other around it. So as the time ticks closer down to midnight, his eyes wander around him as he tries to spot a familiar face. To no luck (so far at least), Namjoon has yet to spot the same set of eyes, plump lips and cute cheeks come his way.

“You look like a lost kid trying to find his parents, hyung.”

Jungkook laughed beside him, taking Namjoon out of his reverie. Jimin and who he’d come to know as Taehyung joined alongside the youngest and it just made Namjoon’s cheeks redden. God, does he really look like that?

“Kookie, don’t tease him. Hyung’s just waiting for his talking partner to come back.”

Even if Jimin had said to not tease him, he very much does so himself. Namjoon just groans while the other giggles. Taehyung looks quite confused at this, he joined them back there when Jimin had found Namjoon again and he was tagging along with Jungkook. It seems like Jimin and Jungkook had it off with Taehyung and well, here they are together.

But before Namjoon could even say anything, Jimin beat him to it and explained what he meant. Taehyung doesn’t look as confused anymore but more delighted. He giggles as Jimin continues to explain and more teasing comes up — Namjoon kind of really just wants the ground to swallow him up already.

“Did you ever get the name of this person?” Jungkook asks this time. Namjoon just nods and two pairs of eyes look at him expectantly. Jimin knows (obviously) but seems like to have kept it to himself this time until it comes out of Joon’s mouth specifically.

“Seokjin. His name was Seokjin.” As those words came out of Namjoon's mouth, something lit up in Taehyung, especially going by how his eyes widened and his mouth gaped a little. The following moments after that came almost doesn’t seem real because honestly — what the fuck.

“Wide shoulders? Plump lips? Has a laugh that sounds like a windshield wiper?“ Taehyung says, his voice gone a little high pitched, obviously excited. He basically looks like an excited puppy. Three pairs of eyes look at him quizzically but especially Namjoon because all of that sounds too familiar — like he heard and seen all of just a while back.

Oh.

Namjoon’s a bit shocked as he pieces it all together in his head but he does manage to just nod. Taehyung practically jumps up and down, Jungkook and Jimin are still confused by this and then Namjoon had just said,

“You know him. Oh my god, you’re one of his friends that came to this party with him, aren’t you?”

Taehyung nods excitedly, looking like a puppy more than ever. Then Jimin and Jungkook erupted into a slew of sounds. Next thing Namjoon knows, he has Jimin clinging onto him while laughing and Jungkook looking at Taehyung with wide eyes.

“Woah, this is just crazy. Who would have thought!”

“This is great! Oh wow,”

“Should I just call Seokjin hyung then to come here?”

At that, Namjoon is quick to shout a small no — “What? No, please. Don’t do that.”

Jimin smirks, “You’re such a romantic, hyung. Wanting for your Prince Charming to come find you and not anyone else.”

Namjoon shakes his head, though at the thought of that, it does make his heart skip a beat just a bit. Taehyung just burst out into more giggles and thankfully doesn’t do anything further. The teasing only seems to have gotten more and Namjoon’s not even mad about it.

Maybe he does want Seokjin to find him solely because he did say that he will and Namjoon didn’t want anyone to help him with it.

If it’s meant to be, it’ll find a way.

─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───

Ten minutes until countdown and Seokjin was frantically looking everywhere for Namjoon. He doesn’t know why he thought of racing against the damn clock but for whatever it’s worth, there’s adrenaline rushing through his veins and holds to the thought of seeing Namjoon and his dimple smile when they do meet again.

When Hoseok told him that there’s only about ten minutes left before midnight that’s when he’d rushed and began his frantic search. Leaving his two friends behind, he hears their distinct cheers and even picks up on Yoongi’s “Go get em’ hyung!” followed by Hoseok’s loud cheers. It wasn’t too out of the blue nor did they get questioning stares from people since they thought they were doing it because of how the new year is fast approaching and well, it’s screams of celebration and what not.

So Seokjin hurries and searches every place that he could think that Namjoon might be at. At every one of them though, there was no sight of the man. Seokjin had almost hope of finding him, especially since people were beginning to shout that there’s only five minutes left and Seokjin really doesn’t want to go into the new year without Namjoon.

It wasn’t until he checked the balcony, did Seokjin see a familiar tall figure leaning against the ledge, with his back towards him. For a moment, he’d wondered if it was really him or was it just his desperation to find the other but when he’d turned his head slightly, Seokjin’s suspicions were correct.

He’d found him.

His heart was beating fast against his chest and maybe it was because he was running or maybe it’s just how he’s truly feeling — nervous? scared? hopeful? excited? — but Seokjin could very much feel it and it was quite thrilling. Before he does approach the other though, Seokjin catches his breath. After finally doing so, he walks up to Namjoon and stands next to him.

Just like their first time meeting, Namjoon had been a little startled but once he’d seen it was Seokjin — his face softened and just like Seokjin had imagined (and kind of hoped), Namjoon was giving him his dimple smile.

“Hi.”

Seokjin gives him a small smile, “Did I make it in time?”

He watches Namjoon pull his sleeve over his hand, revealing his watch and checks the time. When looks back up at Seokjin, his smile is wider — teeth and dimples and all.

“Yeah, with a minute to spare.”

Seokjin releases a sigh of relief, “Oh thank God.”

Namjoon chuckles at that, low and deep. Seokjin would be lying if he said that didn’t do anything to him. So, to take his mind off of it for a moment, Seokjin finally looks around where they are and it seems that they’re somehow the only ones out on the balcony.

“What the hell, Joon. Why are you out when it’s so cold?”

Namjoon doesn’t say anything but does let out a chuckle again and just shrugs. Seokjin pulls his jacket around him tighter while jokingly glaring at the other and mumbles about it being way too cold to be just standing there. Namjoon doesn’t seem to mind the cold though, but he does teasingly smile at Seokjin’s antics.

It seemed like the countdown was starting, going by the ruckus Seokjin hears from inside. Everyone seems to be watching some sort of countdown on the tv and as he was going to walk to see just how many seconds they have left, Namjoon pulls him back.

“Wait. Don’t leave,”

Seokjin looks down at his wrist, which Namjoon is holding and looks back at him.A small smile graces his lips, then looks back at Joon, “I wasn’t going to leave. I just wanted to see how many seconds we have left.”

At that, Namjoon let’s go shyly and lets out a small, “oh.” and Seokjin couldn’t help but coo. When he does see how many seconds they have left — thirty seconds to be exact — he rushes back to Namjoon’s side. He tells him as such and it looks like the other was contemplating something, biting his lip.

Then Seokjin sees Namjoon move closer to him, and says, “I don’t know if I can say all of this thirty seconds but, I..I want to get to know you, Seokjin. I know we’ve just come from or had experiences of shitty relationships but..I want to get to know you. I want to spend time with you in this new year and see where it takes us. I liked our talks, I liked being around you. I liked how you made it easy to just talk about anything. I think..I think I’m starting to like you. Am I crazy?”

Seokjin gets slightly taken aback at this, his lips opening as if he wanted to say something but then he closes it again. Just then, the cheers of the people get louder and it seems that they were on the final countdown.

Five.

Seokjin’s mind is running like crazy. He doesn’t know what to really think but then as he looks at Namjoon — there’s a glint to his eyes. He looks like a mix of nervous and scared but also anticipation.

Four.

Still, Seokjin just stands there. Not really moving but very much looking at Joon. He’s smiling now, albeit looking a little nervous and just recalling his words, does it make his heart skip a beat. Namjoon had listed what he liked and god, It does things to Seokjin.

Crazy things.

Three.

Not even realizing it, Seokjin steps closer to Joon and before he knows it, they are so close, their bodies pressed against each other.

Two.

“No, you’re not crazy. Because I like all the same things..I think..I think I’m starting to like you too. Stop me, if you want, But I’m about to do something crazy right now. There’s no turning back.”

Seokjin pulls the other in closer, gently holds Namjoon’s face and looks at him softly. The other is definitely taken aback by but doesn’t show any sign of discomfort or unwantedness. Seokjin reaches up just to the point where their lips are about to touch.

“Tell me to stop.” But Namjoon doesn’t say anything nor does he make any moves, and so, without a miss of a beat, Seokjin closes his eyes and just goes for it.

One.

Just like the fireworks that they hear from a distance to the shouts of a happy new year from the people inside, their kiss feels all the same.

Absolutely exhilarating and all at the same time, it feels like the first time they had bumped into each other — world stopping. It really does feel like the world has stopped and even more so, when Namjoon snaked his arms around his waist and pulled Seokjin in closer and deepened the kiss.

They stayed like that for a while, the loud booms of the fireworks seemed to be just white noise in the back as Seokjin was so into the kiss just as much as Namjoon was. Nothing else really mattered in the moment than their lips mingling and ultimately becoming one.

Catching their breaths and eventually pulling away, Seokjin couldn’t believe that just happened. Suddenly, he doesn’t feel cold anymore but instead, his body feels hotter than ever. Namjoon’s hands were still on his waist, still holding him tight and more than ever, Seokjin felt secure and safe.

They don’t say anything for a moment, just basking all of what’s happened in. Seokjin feels too shy to even look at Namjoon but he does so anyway. When their eyes meet, there’s some sort of understanding and there would be no words needed to be said as their eyes say it all.

Their little staring moments were broken as someone from inside had yelled out a happy new year surprising the two outside. The person was brief though, closing the door after saying it and it was silent again.

It took another moment for Seokjin to gather his thoughts and just really process what just happened but then Namjoon opened his mouth to say something. Before any words really do come out, he was looking at Seokjin with such softness and then his brows furrow just a bit in the middle.

“I'm gonna be honest with you,” Namjoon starts, his voice gentle, almost a whisper in the cold of the night. Seokjin barely picks it up even with how close they are but he does.

“I have..I have never been this forward with someone but with you...it’s different. You...you’re different. I’m not going to lie and say I’m not scared because fuck, I am so scared. I’m scared because this is all new to me..I don’t know what’s going to happen but I know one thing. I want to be with you, by whatever means. I...I want to try this..whatever this is or will be.”

Never in his past relationships has any of his past partners were this genuine..this honest with him from the start. Seokjin isn’t used to being told such things so early on but Namjoon’s different. He’s always going to be different from his past and god damn it, it’s so attractive of Namjoon to be this honest. It’s making it hard for him to stay away.

Namjoon is still very much looking at him with such softness but there’s an underlying fear and worry. It makes Seokjin want to reach out his hand and ease the worries and fears so clear on his face, so he does.

He gently touches Joon’s face to which the other leans into.

“I’m scared too.. scared shitless...but I also want to try...and see where it takes us, if you let me.”

Namjoon perks up at this, lifting his head from Seokjin’s hand. He lets out a small (cute) gasp, his eyes widening and it just makes Seokjin smile — cute.

“I’d like that.”

Seokjin then leaves a chaste kiss on Namjoon’s cheek and says cheekily,

“Happy New Year, Joonie. I hope this year treats you and I well.”

If Seokjin’s New Year’s resolution was to stop getting played, then he sees no problem like that with Namjoon. In his heart, he knows Namjoon will never do that — he’s honest and different from the rest and for that,he’s excited about what the new year will bring for them both.
