Work Text:

Painting Luca yet again.

That invitation letter to Edgar only mentioned a wish fulfilled while he was in the manor; there would be a way for him to paint beautifully again. Though the more he stays in the manor, more and more repressed dreams are being filled one by one. Has he ever dreamed of having a partner for life; someone who understands the meaning of art. Perhaps this lover would know the name Valden more than an artist, but as an individual, complex person? Well, there's three of them.

That invitation... how greedy could one get with as many fantasies fulfilled here?

"Hm, Eddie, how are you doing so far?"

"Balsa."

"Yeeeess?"

Edgar could only notice Luca's grinning state, his smile shining like the stars under the night sky. He's sitting on a stool as Edgar paints him in the moonlight inside the garden. Though the painter's art block has been away for awhile, the motivation to actually paint comes at possibly the worst time in the world. It's around 12 am maybe, and he's been painting Luca ever since dinner ended. Victor and Andrew are probably sleeping in their rooms right now, either together or just themselves.

Luca perks up, questioning, "Don't you think you deserve a break? You've been painting for awhile, hm?"

"Ah, I haven't noticed how dark it is outside." Edgar sarcastically comments, continuing to paint the evergreen bushes behind Luca.

"Weeeell? Are you going to put them away?"

"I don't feel exhausted yet."

Luca snorts, Edgar having to chew on his cheek to resist laughing along with him--it's contagious, for a person who doesn't have the same laugh most of the time. He's so annoying when he laughs, even the quietest people can be heard laughing along. He suddenly stops and eyes Edgar so pretentiously, his eyebrows scrunched up together similar to him having an idea of an invention.

Edgar has become softer with Luca (along with Andrew and Victor) yet what he is thinking at the moment is driving the painter quite puzzled.

"Quit your painting, I got an idea Ed!" He announces, those grey eyes shining similar of silver.

Contrary to how gently Edgar puts down his palette and brushes, he mutters, "What are you thinking of now? The paint will dry and I won't be able to blend the colors smoothly."

"Aw, c'mon. Why don't we dance the night away? You, me, and the world!" Luca grins, the genuine shine in those eyes only glittering with his outstretched hand.

Edgar sighs, smiling quite actually. This isn't the first time both of them have danced...

Maybe in a different time.

Edgar gives a small stretch before taking Luca's hand in agreement. He can't contain his smile, smirking as he takes Edgar by the waist. One hand on a shoulder and hands interlocked, so begins the dance.

Left, up, right, down. Spin, do it again. Edgar thought it was a little bit boring without music, though Luca started humming to make up the silence.

"I see the crystal raindrops fall..." He murmurs, keeping the beat and the dance synchronized, "and the beauty of it all is when the sun comes shining through..."

Edgar eyes widen, knowing the lyrics to that song. It's the one Luca likes...

"To make those rainbows in my mind when I think of you sometime-"

The prisoner dips Edgar low to the ground, causing his beret to fall off. Completely thrown off guard, two panicked eyeballs dart all over the place as someone's grip tightened.

"LUCA-! What were you doing?!" Edgar squawks, clutching Luca's shirt for dear life.

Luca whoops excitedly, eyes gleaming perhaps in childish playfulness, "I'm trying out something here! Why don't we have some fun?" He positions Edgar upright, and both of them let go of each other.

Edgar bit his lip, almost about to snarl at Luca. If he wasn't his boyfriend, maybe the poor painter wouldn't have gotten softer. "Is this what you were thinking of earlier?!" He swipes the limp beret from the ground and reposition it on his head.

"Maaaaaybe, c'mon! You won't fall down with me around!" Luca shouts, giggling like a child at a toy store. He does a little spin before offering a hand for Edgar's trust.

Edgar sighs and clasps Luca's hand with his own yet again. It starts off slow yet again- though with Luca's lead- it begins to accelerate briskly.

And I wanna spend some time with you; just the two of us, we can make it if we try.

The more they step on that garden floor, the excitement rises. They're twisting around the garden tiles, spinning quite dizzily for a normal eye to view. Edgar's hat has most likely flown to some bushes but the moment is just a blur of electricity and excitement. Edgar's now in the moment, smiling so carefreely. The rush of oxytocin and serotonin may overwhelm both of them, but the moment will forever be a stamp in memories for years to come.

Luca lets go of Edgar's hand and puts both of them on his waist. Effortlessly, he raises the painter towards the sky. It seems if he was one with the stars, and Luca was only rearranging it to his liking. If you could grasp the infinite skies, wouldn't you try to get ahold of one yourself?

Ah, how father time froze the moment perfectly, just for Luca Balsa to view. Edgar Valden, the arrogant, snobby, and harsh person of this manor, having the best moment of his life. The brunette hair losing itself with how fast the dancing goes, the ribbon barely staying in place. Though his eyes are closed, his long eyelashes fluttering from how fast he is being spun. The definitive, yet soft jawline- along with those squishy, round cheeks painted possibly a soft velvet bloom- paints his face so well. His nose is so likeable to be kissed once too many times, and those sweet, mesmerizing, soft lips...

How Luca Balsa wishes he could capture this moment and admire it forever.

Luca places Edgar down, and goes in for a hug, cradling Edgar in the crook of his neck. He freezes in shock, mumbles, "Luca, is something the matter?"

"No, everything's okay."

Luca's lying with his voice sounding dreamlike. Did Dream Witch decide to possess someone else at the dead of midnight- or one A.M.?

"If only I knew how to paint, I'd draw what I've seen... Too bad only the cutest person in the world has that talent instead of me."

"Nhgh..... Tsk, Balsa."

"Aw, can't I compliment you at times Eddy?"

"You know what happens when you do, every single time."

There goes the snarky rebuttal- Luca could feel Edgar burning up on his shoulder though. He takes out Edgar's loose ribbon and starts to comb through his silky, messed-up hair. Luca hums yet again, both of them cradling each other. A yawn cracks from Edgar, though there was a small feeling that he was trying to repress it. Luca lets out a chuckle at his depressingly futile attempt.

Edgar pouts, finally letting himself out of Luca's grasp, "Ugh... I don't want to sleep."

"What time would it be right now?" Luca mutters aloud.

"Late, that's the only time I know in this world Balsa. Why don't you invent a clock?" Edgar snarks, sticking a tongue out at Luca.

"I'll make one for you Eddie~ Go get your tools, I'll carry your easel and brushes."

"...Thank you."

Luca gives Edgar a quick hair kiss while Edgar questions where his beret went.

Edgar closes the bathroom door and climbs into Luca's bed.

He's wearing a slightly oversized shirt from Victor. Luca hasn't given it back to him out of poor memory. When Luca told Edgar whose shirt it was, he was already halfway through putting it on. The painter's also wearing a pair of shorts of Luca's, the size slightly bigger than himself. He crawls towards Luca, lifting the blanket

"Mmmphm... you're so cold, shining star," Luca mutters, grabbing what seems to be Edgar's arm, "Stars are supposed to be hot."

Edgar lowers himself and snuggles into the bed, facing Luca. He gives a little peck on Luca's forehead.

"Sorry I'm too cool for you."

"Since when did you learn how to flirt?"

"Who's the idiot that keeps flirting with me?"

"Heh, turn around, you got me there."

Luca squeezes Edgar closer- burrowing his head on Edgar's shoulder. Edgar doesn't mind being the little spoon for once. Enjoying each other's presence and warmth, both of them fall to a mindless, sincere dream.

The painting Edgar drew lies in the corner in the room, resting on the easel. The moon dips just an inch lower, the light reflecting on the white on Luca's twinkling grey eyes, a rosy blush, and that glistening smile with a snaggletooth.

If he stayed up a little more, maybe Edgar would have drawn the dance that's just the two of them.

Building castles in the sky- just the two of us- you and I.
