A hunk of metal in the shape of a man laid unmoving in the dark, covered only by a dark coat, holding nothing but a sheathed sword in its arms.
Who knows how long it had laid there, or if it would ever move. Certainly not the demons, who prodded the lump with scythes and spears. Certainly not the half-demon in red, who came to kill those very demons. Nor the metal itself, as the blood of the monsters stained its unpolished surface. After all, it had been there so long that people had begun ignoring it. It had lied there so inconspicuously that nobody could tell something was sleeping beneath the dark coat.
Even the metal didn’t know that once the demon blood hit, its human-like eyes would flutter open once again.
