Chapter Text
Here’s an overview and disclaimer before the fic happens, because it might be a tad confusing otherwise. If you just want to start reading, go for it! DGS 1 and 2 spoilers start as early as Chapter 2, just a headsup! Also, before each chapter will be cw/tw tags in the notes. Please be mindful of them and please do what works for you! This is a DGS fic and it explores canon and some adult themes - like murders and cases and stuff. (also there's a title card just a little bit further down)
edit as of august 21st, 2021, or around chapter 86/87 for beyond that - there will be hugging. and kissing. and cuddling. and hand holding. i don't think i need to tag these but i sure might be if there's like a lot of kissing, just in case. here's your headsup for when that happens
edit as of september 5th, 2021 - at the bottom of the overview is a little list of chapters that have art i did to match scenes in there. (they'll probably be very far and few between, but i've been sitting on stuff for the first chapter since i wrote this, so it's time i edit that in.

edit as of march 11, 2023 - whoa time flies when you work the night shift. ok so, i previously linked a twitter you could at me at with fanart. not sure how to explain the situation - twitter is making some scary decisions with account security - but i am probably going to delete all my twitter accounts? also, i plan to update the fic in august - either with actual chapters or with one big chapter explaining what my plans were, just to finish the fic. apologies if the big chapter is what happens instead of actual chapters in advance.
OVERVIEW:
I wanted a character from DGS2 Case 5 to live, and to write a Post-DGS2 epilogue where Kazuma and Ryuunosuke start dating. To write that, I wrote over 100+k words first.
—Arc 1 is the games! It’s canon, mostly. Chapters 1 to 55
-If you don’t just want to reread canon -->
-About half (90,000ish words) of this part of the fic is basically canon dialogue and introspection. Those chapters also have “CANON” in the title.
-If it’s half or less canon dialogue in a chapter, like for some of the case incidents, those get “Canon?” in the title.
-Some chapters are really long, and others very short. I don't rewrite every single scene in canon, and gloss over some stuff from time to time.
—Arc 2 is the epilogue! That’s all me. Chapters 56 to ?? (i'm thinking about 100ish
-This arc has some chapters in Ryuunosuke’s perspective. A chapter like that will have “Ryuunosuke” in the title.
-I like fancases, but don’t really have the brain for them, so for the most part cases are vague and with only a few exceptions any oc’s are unnamed. The exceptions are Sherlock Holmes characters I thought would be neat to fit the big arc-spanning crime I wrote!
-What I'm just now realizing I forgot to mention is this fic doesn't end at the 'i love you's. i'm not planning a lot of like traditional dates that ryuunosuke and kazuma go on or anything, but they do get together and they do spend time together after they confess (when that happens).
DISCLAIMER:
-Characters might be OOC! I haven’t read any DGS fics up to the point of writing this, so I don’t know how other people write anyone. I bet it rocks, though. ((edit : still haven't read any dgs fics. when this fic done i will >:3c
-Since characters always seem to know what Ryuunosuke’s “thinking”, I took the idea that he’s easy to read and he mutters his thoughts out loud. Also, in this canon, Ryuunosuke’s basically been crushing on Kazuma since the end of chapter 1. Take that as you will.
-I refer to England as England and the United Kingdom in this fic. Karuma is Karma. I don’t use honorifics for people. I’m mostly trying to go off of the way I watched DGS here.
-I used the Scarlet Study translation for everything up to DGS 2 case 3, then I used the DGS 2 YT channel. I’m not linking and not promoting so as I understand the ao3 terms, it’s all good! I’m just saying what I used for dialogue basis.

- https://twitter.com/dgs_LLy/status/1435208242783678465 < this piece by dgs_LLY on twitter has scenes from chapter 64 (it says 75 but i'm p sure it's chapter 64) when ryuu and kazuma have a chat in ryuu's office, one of the most babiest of iris' from chapters 70 and 71 when she's bundled up in winter gear and just the best ever (but i'll only be linking it on ch 70), and a scene in chapter 82 when ryuu and kazuma are on a train together. this is really really epic and i think you should give it a look!
