your friendly neighborhood spiderman

Summary:

Namjoon rolls over and starts crawling toward the door on his hands and knees, ducking his head down in fear. He keeps his eyes closed tight as he crawls, until he bumps into the figure standing over the threshold. Namjoon looks up, eyes wide, and sees Yoongi staring down at him.

“Spider?” Yoongi exhales.

Namjoon sits back on his heels and nods.

Work Text:

“Shit shit shit shit shit!” Namjoon tries to scramble out of his chair and falls backwards, hitting the floor with a loud thud. The impact knocks the air out of his lungs and his chest heaves as he calls out, “Yoongi-hyung! Get the fuck in here!”

“Where is it, Joon-ah?” Yoongi shuffles around Namjoon to make his way into the studio, kissing the top of Namjoon’s head as he passes.

“It was on my keyboard. It touched my hand.” Namjoon shudders.

Yoongi grumbles as he inspects the equipment, leaning closely over the soundboards to locate the spider.

Namjoon is standing now, huddled in the corner, trying to make his six-foot frame seem smaller. He tries to peer over Yoongi’s shoulder from across the room. “I don’t know how you could miss it. It was huge. I think it was a tarantula.”

“Namjoon-ah, there is no way a tarantula got into this studio.” Yoongi’s shoulders move up and down as he laughs breathlessly. “Just relax, let hyung take care of the big, bad spider.”

“Don’t make fun of me,” Namjoon whimpers. He knows he’s being irrational, he knows. And he doesn’t hate spiders—he just doesn’t ever want to be within a thousand feet of one. He understands that spiders are essential for the ecosystem and he appreciates their place in the world. But they don’t belong in his space, in his studio. They belong outside, in their sticky little webs with their menacing little legs.

Yoongi looks back at Namjoon and his expression softens, “Sorry. It’s just… so fucking cute. RapMon is afraid of spiders.”

“I’m tough, okay.”

Yoongi throws his head back and laughs again.

Namjoon slides down into the corner and tries to hide his face between his knees as Yoongi teases him. He hears Yoongi say, “ah ha,” and he knows that the interloper has been located.

“Did you find it?” Namjoon perks up.

“Yah, bring me that glass, will you?” Yoongi gestures to the cup sitting on the other end of the desk.

Namjoon grabs the glass and stretches his arm as far as it’ll go without having to move from his corner. His safe, spider-free corner.

Yoongi puts the glass upside down on the desk and traps the spider. He grabs his lyric book and lines it up with the edge of the desk, then slowly slides the glass onto the notebook. Namjoon drums his fingers against his knees and steadies his breathing. Yoongi holds the notebook and glass precariously as he turns to face Namjoon.

“Thought you said it was a tarantula?” Yoongi cocks his eyebrow in Namjoon’s direction. Namjoon squints hard and sees a tiny spider, no bigger than his thumbnail, climbing up the inside of the glass.

“You think I’m ridiculous, don’t you,” Namjoon slumps down in his corner.

“Yes, absolutely. That’s why I love you.” Yoongi crosses the room and crouches down in front of Namjoon. “Wanna look at it?”

Namjoon looks at Yoongi with wide, wondrous eyes. He nods. Yoongi’s lips curl inward as he smiles and holds the notebook and glass up to Namjoon.

“See? Not so scary,” Yoongi coos as he looks at the spider.

“Yeah, not at all,” Namjoon puffs out his chest. He watches the spider delicately climb across the inside of the glass.

“Maybe next time you can try and catch it.”

Namjoon slumps down again, “I’ll burn this entire studio down before I have to catch my own spider.”

"Joon-ah, please don’t speak those words into existence. You’re the most accident-prone person I know.”

Namjoon laughs, big and loud, “Okay, hyung. But I’m not catching my own spiders. Why do you think I keep you around?”

Yoongi looks at him and tuts before leaning in to kiss Namjoon, soft and sweet. So so sweet.

Namjoon pulls back, “Hyung, I love you, but I don’t want to kiss you with that disgusting little monster in your hands.”

Yoongi huffs and groans as he stands. He mutters something about Namjoon being ungrateful under his breath when he gets to the door, the glass still balanced carefully on his lyric book. Namjoon can hear the smile in Yoongi’s voice as he goes outside to free the spider.
