Work Text:
Yoongi loves silence as much as he loves comfortable noises. Soft murmurs and chatters at the cafe, the rhythmical sounds of people's shoes on the street, or a random lo-fi playlist he found on Spotify. Unfortunately, it’s not the case when Jungkook and Taehyung, his roommates; a loud couple who are either playing games or making out against the kitchen counter (yes, Yoongi has seen things). He’s in his last year of his music production major, with piled up projects and quite a big following on SoundCloud. Working on music in his apartment is not hard per se, but his friends can be pretty distracting at times.
Years after enrolling in this college, Yoongi could probably count how many times he ever stepped into the library with his fingers. Obviously, it’s not the most ideal place to create music, but he had no choice since it would be a hassle to do it in other places.
“It’s freaking cold here.” Yoongi murmurs to himself as he steps inside the pretty much empty library.
The perfectly stacked book on the shelf didn’t interest Yoongi. His mind is set to find the emptiest part of the library. His heavy sling bag made his right shoulder a little bit sore, hence why Yoongi fastened his pace when he saw a perfect spot. Only one other person is there, their head buried in the book, not caring of Yoongi’s presence there which is great.
A loud ding makes Yoongi flinch in his seat. He looks around the room to see if anyone’s glaring at him as he frantically tries to mute his phone.
Kook
Hyung
Where are you?
Yoongi
And why do you care?
Kook
Nothing :)
Yoongi
Istg if y’all plan to fuck on the couch again
You’ll be homeless once I find out
Kook
Tae said you love us too much to do that
Yoongi
The point is not to fuck on the couch, you brat
I’ll be home late
Gonna work on the draft i’ve left work a week
Kook
‘kay, good luck
Yoongi sighs, locking his phone and starts to ensemble all his stuff on the table. He rummages through his bag, looking for his mouse pad blindly but all Yoongi found was a bunch of receipts from all the coffee he bought this week.
“Fuck.” Of course he would forget something. Nothing really can stop Yoongi from working though, so he gets up and walks to the nearest book shelf, looking for the thinnest book there is to be used as a mousepad.
“Are you looking for a particular book?”
A tall man wearing a green long sleeved flannel smiled at Yoongi, his spectacles dropping even lower off his nose bridge as he struggled to carry a stack of books in his hands.
“Ah, do you need help?” Yoongi says instead, taking some of the books from the man.
“Thank you.” The man skillfully put the books at where they should be, he doesn’t even need to tiptoe to put the last book on the highest part of the shelf. “So, what book are you looking for?”
Just then, Yoongi notices the staff pin on his shirt. “Ah, I’m fine actually, just looking for…” Yoongi couldn’t just say hey, can you help me look for a book that’s good enough to be a mouse pad , right? Considering the man is also the library staff even if he looks like he’s also a student here, it would be weird.
“That one with the blue cover. At the top of the shelf?” Fortunately, at the last second, Yoongi’s eyes catch the thinnest book out of the others on the shelf.
“There’s a stool there actually.” The man points at the stool sitting near the wall. “But since you helped me before, I’ll get it for you.”
Now, how can this get any worse? It was already embarrassing enough to lie about needing a book that he doesn’t plan to read and now the man subtly called out his height and somewhat flexed his tall figure. Okay, probably not, since he looks genuine, but Yoongi just wants to go and start working on his song already.
“If you still need help, I’ll be at the checkout counter.”
“Thank you.” Yoongi simply says and leaves. He really hopes the man wouldn’t see him using the book as a mouse pad.

A library has its own scents, old books, dusty papers at some corner, and all kinds of coffee brought by the students. Namjoon has seen a lot of students of various states coming in and out of the place. From ones with bags under their eyes, looking like they're barely alive, dragging their feet across the room, to the one whose only here to get some air conditioner when the day was hot outside and naps right after they read five pages of random books. But it's the first time ever since Namjoon worked at the library that he saw someone making songs here, with all their equipment on top of the table.
The man is pretty, his skin complexion pale, but maybe that’s why it compliments his black hair so much. Namjoon remembered how the man wandered around between philosophy bookshelves, looking kind of lost. At that time, Namjoon had already figured out that he wouldn’t be reading the book at all. Well, music equipment up on the table, Namjoon won’t be surprised if he used that for anything other than reading, though, he decided not to say anything.
It was pretty late, just a few hours until the library closed when Namjoon saw the man from the other day come back. Except this time, he brings a cup of coffee on his right hand and his hair looks messier than the first time Namjoon saw him, probably he just had a rough day. Not even a glance was directed to Namjoon when he entered the library (not that Namjoon hoped for it), he went straight to the table near the entrance since the library's always packed at the end of the school week.
“Namjoon-ah, you got a crush, huh?”
“Wha— No!” How come Jinae always notices the slightest change in his behavior? “That’s the guy I told you about a few days ago.”
“The pretty guy?”
“Pretty sure I didn’t say that, Jinae.” Namjoon sighs when Jinae snorted, trying to hold her laugh, perfectly knowing they shouldn’t have even joked around while working. But who cares anyway?
Jinae squints at him, lips tugging into a smirk. “But he’s your type, right?” She whispers.
For some reason, Namjoon’s eyes travel to the man who’s currently scribbling something on a note while his head bops to the beats he’s listening to from his headphones. He taps his fingers against his pink pouty lips, it seems to be the man’s habits when he’s thinking. “He’s pretty… I guess?”
Jinae seems to be satisfied with Namjoon’s answer. “I knew it.”
“Please don’t do something embarrassing.”
“I won’t do anything, Joon, chill. I’m sure you’ll do something on your own.”
“Not embarrassing stuff though.”
Jinae scoffed before walking away to put some books back to the shelf. “Sure, big boy.”
Namjoon swears not to think about it too much. He has seen plenty of attractive people around the library and heard Jinae pointing at every pretty and smaller guy than him; his type (not that she's wrong). Just at the beginning of this year, Jinae met her girlfriend at the library, so she has been really fired up about getting Namjoon to also meet someone here.
The ticking sound of the clocks started to sound even louder as the library emptied up, most of the students going back as the closing hours came near.
"I'm gonna check the other side of the library okay, Joon?" Namjoon hums as Jinae walks off to see if there are still any students left at the back of the library.
Namjoon was about to look around, but obviously the first thing he sees is the pretty man who's currently sleeping with his laptop open in front of him. He contemplates whether to wake the man up now or later once they actually need to close the library. But then Namjoon glances at the stuff he got on the table. It would probably take a long time to tidy up.
"Excuse me." Namjoon tries to shake off the man's shoulder gently, hoping he's not a heavy sleeper. "We're going to close the library in half an hour."
The man stirs, finally looking up at Namjoon. Remaining sleepiness clearly still visible in his tired eyes, Namjoon feels kinda bad for waking him up but it's better than having to lock him inside.
"Since you have a lot of stuff here, I figured you might need some time to tidy them up."
If the world could buffer, maybe it's what is happening right now as Namjoon waits for the man to say something. "Um, I'm sorry if you want to sleep again I'll wake you up in fifteen minutes."
"No, it's alright." Even during their first encounter, Namjoon was not expecting the man to have a deep voice, but now , hearing his raspy voice, just barely waking up from his nap is something else. "Thank you actually for not locking me up here."
"Of course we won't do that." Namjoon smiles back when the man offers him a weary smile.
"You probably had figured out that I'm here not to read books."
"Well it's fine since you're not breaking any rules. The library is open for everyone." Namjoon offers him a polite smile, trying not to blush as the other keeps smiling at him, making his apple cheeks look even cuter.
"Great, I'll probably come here a lot from now on."
"If you need anything I'll be here to help too."
Namjoon bids his last goodbye before continuing his work to check on every corner of the library. He tries to ignore the giddy feeling inside of him when he knew the man would come here often. He doesn't know exactly why he feels this way, but since it's not a bad feeling, Namjoon let the butterflies in his stomach flutter as much as they want.
---
It's been two weeks and the pretty man did stay true to his words. If not everyday, he would at least, always come to the library on Thursdays. Namjoon doesn't know why, but it's probably the day when his schedule is not packed.
Also it's the first time to see him already there on his usual spot before Namjoon came for his shift after his second class of the day.
"He's been here for two hours."
"Can you not sneak around like that, Jinae?" Namjoon scream-whispers although Jinae seems to not care at all about his complaint. "Also you don't have to update me about him every time he's here, you know?"
Of course, a single complaint like that won't stop his persistent friend. "He keeps glancing around looking for you."
"Maybe he's looking for someone else. He doesn't even know me." Namjoon says, not wanting to entertain himself with something he is not sure about.
"Oh come on, Joon. You're not that dense."
"I don't know what you're talking about."
To be fair, Namjoon won't call his next move an escape. He just simply left to do his work and return the books from the returning cart to the shelves as usual. Ignoring Jinae's obvious smirk behind him, as if Namjoon just got a third eye on the back of his head.
From Jinae's perspective, there's no way she could see the way Namjoon takes a second to glance at the pretty man who's now sleeping with his arms as a pillow. His pretty black hair is covering half of his face, but not long enough to hide his pouty lips.
He pouts when he sleeps .
Not that Namjoon is taking notes of that. He just happened to see it when he walked past him to go and put some books back on their shelves.
When he walks back to the checkout counter, Namjoon notices the subtle shivers of the pretty man. The air conditioner has always been set pretty low after all. But then he remembers where their previous librarian puts her blanket she usually uses to cover her legs when she wears a skirt.
Namjoon looks around, especially wary of Jinae since she would tease the hell out of him when she saw Namjoon giving the pretty man a blanket. Probably not really professional of him since he clearly has a bias towards this one person, but honestly no one would even notice.
The blanket is not that thick, but enough to make the pretty man warmer. Thankfully, he seems not to notice something was put on top of him and Namjoon quickly flees from the scene in case someone is looking at him.
"Woah, he's really dedicated, huh? Even bringing a blanket to sleep here." Jinae says after checking out another student's book. "But I feel like I've seen that blanket somewhere."
Namjoon freezes, hoping Jinae wouldn't notice who the blanket actually belongs to. "Maybe another student."
Jinae pauses, before she gives up on figuring where she saw the blanket. "Probably."
It's not like Namjoon is looking at the pretty man all the time while he works, but the timing is just too perfect. He's about to stretch after spending half an hour inputting data to the computer. As he looks up, the pretty man is finally waking up from his nap. At first he didn't notice the blanket on his back, the man just pretty much yawns and tries to blink his sleepiness away until he's awake enough to notice it.
He looks confused as he takes the blanket off of him, looking at it for a few seconds until he looks up, eyes directed to Namjoon's direction.
"Shit." Namjoon says under his breath, averting his gaze to somewhere else other than the man.
Namjoon doesn't dare to look up for a solid five minutes, too afraid that the man will somehow notice that it was his doing. But when the pretty man walks off, passing the checkout counter on his way out, Namjoon forces himself to look up. The blanket is neatly folded and left on the table which Namjoon quickly takes to put it again from where it came from.
Like a teenager, Namjoon smiles to himself when he comes back to sit in front of the computer, feeling elated all of a sudden.
As tomorrow is not even twelve hours away, Namjoon secretly looks forward to the next day at the library.

"I'm going to the library again today after class." Yoongi simply says while he drinks his coffee in front of Jungkook and Taehyung who's currently munching on their half-burnt pancakes.
"We haven't even played games in a week, hyung. We were not loud at all for you to be bothered that much while working on your song." Jungkook wonders why the library suddenly became his new favorite place. Though he knows Yoongi pretty much only works on the beats and mixing there, given the fact that he could not exactly record his voice in public spaces.
"Hyung probably wants to see Namjoon, the pretty library assistant." Taehyung says absentmindedly.
Yoongi stops, his cup of coffee hovers over his lips. "You know him?"
So his name is Namjoon, huh.
Taehyung raises his eyebrows. "Ah, so it's true? I was just guessing."
"Not the point, Taehyung-ah."
"I'm not his friend. I just know him because I study at the library a lot during exam weeks."
Yoongi scoffs, almost choking on his coffee. "You study ?"
"He does, but half the time Tae was there, he took naps." Of course Jungkook would know, Yoongi thought. They're always together after all.
"You nap too, Jungkookie." Taehyung pouts.
"Didn't say I don't nap there, you big baby." It was only a peck on the lips, but Yoongi admits his roommates are a cute couple, though he won't ever say that outloud.
"Don't you think Namjoon is hot, Kook?" Taehyung says all of a sudden.
"Yeah, he has perfect body proportions and his dimples are cute."
"Do you think he'll agree if we ask him for a threesome?"
Yoongi quite literally spits out the coffee he just sipped when Taehyung said that. "What the fuck."
"I wish, Tae. But don't worry, hyung. He's all yours unless you want to join?" The eyebrow wiggle from Jungkook was uncalled for. How come any conversation with Taehyung and Jungkook ended up being like this? It's not even ten in the morning and yet they're already as chaotic as ever.
"That's it, I'm out of this kitchen." Fortunately, Yoongi is on his last sip of coffee so right after he finished it, he could escape as fast as possible. "Don't make out on the shower or you'll be late again for class. I'm gonna leave in ten minutes."
Jungkook grins, eyes mischievous while he looks at Taehyung who seems to love the idea of doing that exact same thing again.
"No promises, hyung."

It would be creepy of course to keep looking at someone every five minutes, so Namjoon restrained himself from doing so. To be fair, he doesn’t have any friends who make music or just simply ever witnessed anyone working on lyrics and beats in front of him. Yes he does make poetry and such, but it’s still kind of different with song lyrics, right?
Even the way Yoongi pouts when he thinks and how he rests his chin on his hand, pinky finger crooked prettily on the apple of his cheeks. Namjoon doesn't have much strength to not look at that.
“You’re staring.”
“For heaven sake, Jinae. I told you not to sneak on me like that.” Namjoon should probably give up on hoping that Jinae will stop scaring him. “And I didn’t stare, thank you.”
“You totally did.” With that, Jinae decides to leave Namjoon alone to work on her tasks.
Not being able to focus on work is one thing but the fact that it's Yoongi who distracts him is very much impossible to overcome. He groans, typing on the keyboard furiously but still careful enough not to make mistakes when Namjoon input the data. As minutes passed, Namjoon could finally find his focus, eyes glued to the screen, not caring of anything around him. But that's also something he regrets later on, because when he looks up, Yoongi is already gone.
"Huh?" Namjoon hears the faintest creaks of the library door and thinks he saw the pretty man's shadow leaving the place.
As Namjoon glances to the table that man just sat at, Namjoon sees that he left his notebook there, probably by accident. With his long limbs, Namjoon hopes he could run and catch up to the man to return his notebook.
One crucial thing Namjoon might've forgotten, is that he doesn't know the man's actual name. He has been calling him 'the pretty man' all this time, so Namjoon stands in the hallway, mouth agape since he doesn't know how to call out to that man and just hopes the man will come back soon to collect it.
"Namjoon-ssi.'
A familiar voice calls out to him. Namjoon's eyes widen when he sees that it's the man. "How do you know my name?" Namjoon blurts out, too shocked about the fact that the man knows his name.
"Ah, right sorry. My roommates know you. Jungkook and Taehyung? Pretty sure the whole campus knows them."
"Oh, I see." Namjoon knows he just forgot the main issue here and went on asking the man about unimportant details.
"Wait— Sorry I forgot that I should've given you this." Namjoon hands the man his notebook back. "I was about to call you but I forgot I don't know your name."
"Yoongi."
Namjoon is no expert at fortune telling whatsoever, but he's sure that a pretty name like Yoongi fits a pretty face like him too. "Yoongi-ssi."
"Hyung is fine, it's not our first meeting after all."
"Uh…" Namjoon is too stunned by Yoongi's smile to answer. "Okay, hyung?"
"I'm in my last year so yeah, pretty sure most people in here are younger than me." Yoongi laughs and it shouldn't make Namjoon's heart stutter, but it does. It's ridiculous how Yoongi's gummy smile could affect him this much.
"You definitely don't look like it though. I could easily assume you're Jungkook and Taehyung's age."
Yoongi squinted his eyes. "I hope they didn't make out here."
"I'm not sure about it but I didn't see it personally." Namjoon chuckles, imagining how many times Yoongi must've seen his friends make out in many places. "They're cute though."
"Let's see if you'll say that after walking in on them—"
"Okay, alright that's too much information."
The deep laugh once again comes out from Yoongi. "I'm kidding. They are cute but don't ever tell them that."
"Um, the librarian doesn't mind that I came here to do my thing right?"
"No she's alright with it so don't worry." The librarian has seen more bizarre things students do here but Yoongi is definitely not in that category.
"That's great. I thought since you're always glancing at me from time to time, she asked you to keep an eye on me."
Quite literally, Namjoon feels himself panic in a matter of seconds. That means Yoongi knew that he's looking at him all this time and Namjoon thought he was being as secretive as he could. Worse , now Yoongi knows it's not because Namjoon should keep an eye on him but for another reason. A reason Namjoon could never tell him personally.
Yoongi raises his right eyebrow, lips tugging into an amused smirk when he sees Namjoon trying to come up with an excuse, blushing in front of him. "Oh? I guess I don't mind if you keep glancing at me."
"Y-you are in a rush, no?" Namjoon decides to move on to another topic, refusing to embarrass himself even more.
"Actually I misread the time, thought I was late for my last class but I still have an hour."
As much as Namjoon wants to stay and chat longer with Yoongi, he has work to do and needs to get back to it in case the librarian finds him. "I'd love to talk with you more but I have work to do so I need to go."
"No, it's alright, I'm sorry if I was holding you back." Somehow Namjoon wants Yoongi to be a little disappointed, but he realized the man doesn't have any reason to. "Thanks for keeping this notebook safe. I have important things here."
"Your lyrics."
Yoongi smiles and caresses the notebook fondly. "Yeah, you're right."
Namjoon bows, saying see you later instead of goodbye and Yoongi seems to like it that way as they would meet again probably tomorrow or anytime soon this week.
---
It's Friday, the only day Yoongi and Namjoon are at the library early in the morning, before each of their first classes of the day, enjoying the library where it's usually empty with only a few people there.
Would it be too bold if Namjoon bought Yoongi a coffee? He's not sure since Yoongi didn't always bring a coffee with him and it would be a waste if Yoongi ended up having two coffees, right?
But before Namjoon could stop himself, there were two coffees in his hands. He doesn't even know how Yoongi liked his coffee so he just needed to hope that Yoongi likes americano. Namjoon plans to give Jinae the coffee if Yoongi ends up already having a cup of coffee when he walks in.
Right after he walks into the library though, Yoongi is already there, sitting at his usual spot looking very tired even from ten feet away. His right hand is gripping tightly at the pen while the other is on his pretty messy locks.
No coffee on sight.
"Morning hyung, you're early today."
Yoongi looks up, his frown is gone when he notices it's Namjoon who stands in front of him. "Hey, Joon-ah. Yeah, I'm doing last minute lyric changes."
"I wish I could help, but what about coffee?" Namjoon offers Yoongi his coffee as he smiles nervously. "I just thought that— I happen to come to this new cafe and—"
"Thank you, Joon-ah. I haven't had my coffee yet this morning." Yoongi says as he proceeds to sip the coffee. "You're a lifesaver."
"I hope you like americano."
"I like it, don't worry. I'll pay you back, okay?"
"No you don't have to. It's my treat."
Namjoon sure hopes Yoongi doesn't notice the blush on his face as the man keeps looking at the americano Namjoon gave him with a smile on his face.
"Come sit, Joon-ah."
Namjoon hesitates for a second. Since it's early in the morning, he doesn't have much to do other than assisting students if they need help, so he decides to sit in front of Yoongi.
"So what's your major, Joon? You never told me."
"Literature." Namjoon smiles. "I fit the stereotypes, right?"
"I mean that's not a bad thing, right? One thing for sure, I know you're smart."
Namjoon huffs out a laugh. "Thank you, I guess?"
"Okay I need a second opinion about this," Suddenly, Yoongi's notebook is in front of him as Namjoon blinks at Yoongi confusedly. "Please?"
Right from the first line, Namjoon feels how his breath was taken away. Every word leaves an impression, the story within the lyrics, and as he reads it, it feels like the notebook is Yoongi's diary and Namjoon should be honored to be able to read every raw emotion Yoongi put there.
"A-are you sure I'm allowed to read this?"
Yoongi only laughs while Namjoon is still stunned, hands glued to Yoongi's notebook but still careful enough to not crinkle its paper.
"I promise not all my songs are depressing. I write love songs too."
"It's not depressing, hyung." Namjoon says, somehow feeling offended by it even though it was Yoongi himself who said it. "It's feelings ."
"You're cute." It was a whisper, almost inaudible but Namjoon's ear still catches it. "I guess I don't have to worry about it too much?"
"It's great, hyung. Not biased obviously."
"Thank you. This songwriting project has been fun but stressful at times. But this place is a pretty damn good place to look for inspiration."
After Yoongi started to come here, Namjoon also felt like the place has become livelier in a way. All the work and sights he sees could be pretty boring since it's repetitive, so Yoongi being there has given him a huge push to maintain his energy although Jinae would call him whipped.
Maybe he is.
---
"He's whipped. He just finished his coffee and he still drinks the coffee the other guy brought him." Jimin chuckles, noticing the empty cup of coffee the guy put on the floor near his chair.
"So who do you think will ask each other out first?" Jin finally says after a long time, averting his gaze away from the two strangers that have been flirting in the library. It was pretty much an accident. Jin came here because the wi-fi in his apartment was not working and he needed to submit his assignment as soon as possible. That day he saw the tall guy put a blanket for the tiny guy, he decided that he should be the witness of their blooming love story.
"Simple. The dimple guy because he's been the one making moves all this time." At first, Jimin came here just because his hyung was persistent that he needed company while he sits around looking at a specific couple. After two times, he also feels invested in the stranger's love story.
Hoseok drags the chair out in front of his boyfriends and sits with a sigh. "So you've been coming here for a week just to gossip and spy on flirting gays?"
Jin pouts and glances back at the strangers. "Oh come one babe, they're cute."
"It's pretty interesting, not gonna lie." Jimin says, uncaring of Hoseok's unamused face. "Real life cheesy drama."
"Okay then since we're here and early in the morning on top of that, why not try studying to kill time?"
"Hoseokie hyung, we're dance major students." Jimin says flatly.
Hoseok and Jimin then looked at Jin ever so slowly, almost at the same time and stared at their hyung, not saying anything.
"Don't look at me like that."
"You have an exam in a week, hyung." Hoseok says which makes Jin groan in agony.
"Fine, I'll study when I come here but not today."
"Hoseokie hyung, this is an important day." Jimin puts his fingers on Hoseok's lips. "This is the first time they ever talk like… talk ."
Hoseok frowns. "How am I supposed to get that, Jimin-ah?"
"No, he's right. That's progress."
"So this is our new date spot or something?" Hoseok knows after all the whining he does right now, he won't be able to resist his boyfriends. Call him whipped or whatever, but he has two pouty babies in front of him and not enough strength to not give in to them.
"Now that you mention it, Hoseok-ah."
"Hyung, please don't."
---
"Why are you guys here?" Five steps away from his lecture hall's door, Yoongi notices Jungkook and Taehyung standing near the stairs with suspicious huge grins on their faces. "And what's with that smile?"
"Where are you going?" Jungkook asks, still following Yoongi even when he walks away, heading towards the library.
"Library." He simply says.
"I thought you finished your song?" Taehyung fastened his pace, trying to catch up to Yoongi to walk beside him. "Perhaps you want to see a certain someone ?" He nudges Yoongi playfully.
"I came up with another song."
"Gonna bet it's a love song." Jungkook chuckles, not caring even when Yoongi gives him a nasty glare.
"It's not, you brat."
It was foolish of him to hope that his roommates would stop following him when their friends called and asked Jungkook and Taehyung to eat with them, but surprisingly, they refused.
So here they are, in front of the library door. Before they enter, Yoongi stops and looks both of his friends in the eye. "Don't say anything weird to Namjoon."
"Who said we're here to talk to him?" Taehyung winks at Jungkook, not being secretive at all.
"Since you've been here most of the time, we kinda miss you, hyung." Yoongi sighs, finding himself giving in to Jungkook's smiles and nose scrunch.
"Whatever. Just don't make a fuss here."
"So where's Namjoon hyung?" Taehyung whispers, or tries to whisper since his voice is still loud enough to be heard by anyone five feet away from them.
"I don't know… Maybe doing his job? " This whole thing feels like he's babysitting Taehyung and Jungkook who seems to be really excited for whatever reasons they have.
"You always sit here, huh?" Jungkook looks around, probably thinks Yoongi would pick a more secluded area. "Since it's near the checkout counter or where Namjoon hyung is most of the time."
It's already hard to admit it to himself, let alone admitting that he has a thing for Namjoon to his friends and in the library with a higher chance of Namjoon hearing what they're talking about when he passes by.
The blush on Yoongi's face is enough confirmation for Jungkook and Taehyung. Both of them smile at Yoongi who still refuses to look at them and has his eyes on the notebook even when they both know he's neither reading or writing something as Yoongi is distracted by his roommates.
"Oh, Yoongi hyung." Namjoon smiles at him when Yoongi looks up, adorable dimples on display.
"Hi Namjoon hyung." Taehyung waves his hand, grinning from ear to ear.
Yoongi wants to say something like you brat, you're not even close with him but he settles with kicking Taehyung in the shins under the table. The younger barely flinched and kept smiling.
"Oh, Taehyung and Jungkook." The smile Namjoon gives to Jungkook and Taehyung is different. Still kind but somewhat shy. "If you're looking for a book, I'll help you."
"No we're good, hyung. Just missing Yoongi hyung since apparently his apartment moved to the lib—" Jungkook flinches and almost screamed out an ouch loudly when Yoongi kicked his shins. "Anyway, we won't be bothering anyone here so don't worry."
It's the charm of those two. Even just them alone, their charms are already enough to help them get away with a lot of things, and after they get together, the power is also doubled.
"Okay, I appreciate that a lot. I need to get back to work."
After Namjoon leaves, Yoongi lets out a deep sigh. He glares at his friends who're busy suppressing their giggles.
"The kick hurts a lot by the way hyung." Jungkook pats his shins, trying to lessen the sting.
"He's totally into you, hyung." People say Taehyung has a gift of seeing a potential romantic couple but Yoongi knows half of his guesses are purely a guess.
"You say that to every guy who flirts with me, Taehyung-ah."
"That's the thing." Taehyung snaps his finger. "He didn't flirt with you but his eyes sparkled when he saw you."
"That sounds like a Disney movie plot." Yoongi said absentmindedly.
"But he did, hyung. You said that about me when I first saw Taehyung too."
Yoongi did say Jungkook's eyes sparkled and got bigger every time Taehyung walked into the room. His gaze would never be torn away by any distractions while pure happiness is visible on his face. Did Namjoon really look like that when he saw Yoongi?
"You like him right, hyung?"
"Tone down your voice, Jungkook. What if he hears you?"
Of course Jungkook would not care about that, he's enjoying the sight of blushing and fidgety Yoongi way too much.
"You should ask him out." Taehyung suggests, sounding more serious that Yoongi expects him to be. "A lot of people are crushing on him. Guys, girls, you tell me. Pretty sure the library ghosts are whipped for him too."
Okay, that makes Yoongi chuckle for a bit. "I didn't know. I mean I can see why , though."
"That's because you don't come to parties often."
Yoongi then stops scribbling on his notebook. "Wait— Namjoon comes to the parties a lot?"
"Not really, we've only seen him a few times, but how do you think we know all things about the students here?"
Taehyung and Jungkook do know a lot about the students, dramas, and gossip going around the campus; sometimes it's quite questionable.
"I see…"
"Well, me and Tae hyung need to go."
"Where?
Jungkook stands up, patting his pants to smoothen all the creases. "To eat, of course. You're not going?"
To be fair, Yoongi is hungry too but he needs to ask Namjoon about something before he leaves to buy lunch. "You guys go ahead and eat some lunch. I'll be here for a few more minutes."
Jungkook squints at him suspiciously. "Alright, but don't skip it okay?"
"Yes, hyung. " Yoongi laughs at his own interpretation of Jungkook.
"Bye Yoongi-ah." Taehyung and Jungkook casually say as they quickly left the building before Yoongi could kick their shins one more time today.
Yoongi closes his notebook before he walks towards Namjoon who seems to immediately notice his presence. "Hey Joon. Sorry, were we too loud?"
"No, I could barely hear you guys."
"You're not a good liar, you know." Yoongi laughs heartily.
Namjoon gives him a sheepish smile, eyes turning into a cute crescent. "It's fine, hyung."
"Any book recommendation? I think I need to get back to reading."
Yoongi chuckles when he sees Namjoon's face changed, his excitement is shown in his eyes as his fingers scrolled through what looks like notes on his phone.
"We could stay here until it closes, hyung."
"Then I should eat lunch first." The sun is still up in the sky, bright, not overshadowed by the clouds. Yoongi wouldn't mind hearing Namjoon blabber about his interest since he's cute when he's excited. But his stomach has been asking him to fill it up, it's starting to hurt. "I'll be back here but make sure you already have one book to recommend."
"How about three?"
"Two."
"Deal, hyung."
---
Exam week starts sooner for Yoongi. It doesn't start for another three days for Namjoon which Yoongi envied a lot. Basically, it's time for everyone to lose sleep and drink an unhealthy amount of coffee everyday.
As Yoongi drags his feet to the library after his first exam, he could feel half of his soul leave his body. Running on four hours of sleep and the anxiousness that never left him alone, it kinda feels like Yoongi just turned into a zombie.
One more exam .
It's not the first time Yoongi ever napped at the library but this time, he plans to take a nap as he waits for his other exam to start.
"Oh, hey Yoongi hy—" Yoongi doesn't even question why Namjoon stops to look at him, concerned with how dark the bags under his eyes have become. "You need rest."
"That's what I'm here for." Yoongi looks around and apparently, he's not the only one who uses the place to rest. "I see corpses everywhere. I'll add to that number in a few minutes."
"I'm not looking forward to the exams too."
Before they could chat more, a student asks Namjoon to assist them. Yoongi lets them do their business and walks towards his usual spot that's fortunately not occupied by anyone. He sits with a huff, eyes feeling even heavier as his head gets closer and closer to the table.
---
Namjoon knows he shouldn't worry too much about Yoongi. There are plenty of students who are sleeping with their heads on the table too. Either using their arms as a pillow, or their bags which really looked uncomfortable. But the position Yoongi's head is in now certainly will hurt his neck when he wakes up.
The blanket is still there, sitting in its place, untouched since Namjoon last used them for Yoongi. It's pretty fluffy, so Namjoon thinks it should be okay to be used as a pillow, right?
But Namjoon also feels bad if he needs to wake Yoongi up. His face looks peaceful despite the weird head position.
"Just give him the blanket already, Joon."
"Jinae!" Namjoon clutches at his chest.
"I know, don't sneak around on me bla bla bla, right? Sorry." Jinae doesn't look like she's sorry at all, wearing an amused grin on her face.
"I don't want to bother him."
"Oh come on, he'll go back to sleep in one minute after you gave him that." Jinae comes to a halt when she looks at the blanket carefully. "Wait a damn minute."
Oh fuck.
"That's the blanket." Namjoon curses at himself, chanting fuck for god knows how many times like a mantra.
"Yes." He simply says in defeat.
"So you gave the man a blanket that day, huh. I really thought he brought a blanket to class."
Namjoon drops his head to the table, the thud echoes throughout the room, it catches one or two students' attention. "He looked cold, Jinae."
"Sure, I believe you. Still a really sweet gesture though."
"Don't tease me, please."
"This place is magical. We basically met the love of our lives here."
Namjoon groans. He saw that one coming, but it still makes him blush and all tingly. "It's just a coincidence."
"You're not denying it." If there's a way to wipe that cocky grin on Jinae's face, Namjoon would do anything to be able to do that. But knowing his friend Jinae, there is almost nothing that could stop her from teasing Namjoon.
"I like him, yes. But not to that extent…"
Jinse smirks. "Yet."
"Yet." There's no way to deny it now that Jinae knows. "Go back to work, Jinae. I'm gonna give him this first." Namjoon stands up, clutching the blanket on his hands tightly.
"Because I'm a good friend, I'll let you slack around this time."
"I'm not slacking around, Jinae." It's no use to fight Jinae at this point, but Namjoon can't help but keep answering her.
Namjoon tries to lift the chair up when he's about to sit on it. Not wanting to wake Yoongi up with its loud screech.
The chair is cold against Namjoon's legs. The feeling somehow feels too familiar now after he kept sitting here to chat with Yoongi when he's free.
Weeks ago, the particular spot Namjoon is in now had no significant meaning to him. It's just another table and chair that has been used by countless students and not even one of their faces does Namjoon remember. Of course it's different with Yoongi even from the start.
If someone were to ask him when he started glancing and taking a liking to see Yoongi's work at the library, Namjoon wouldn't be able to answer. Or maybe he would answer from the very first time?
Though Yoongi first came here because Jungkook and Taehyung were being loud, and there was a possibility he wouldn't come back after that first time, but somehow he did. Namjoon takes a note to himself and will make sure to thank both Jungkook and Taehyung one day.
Yoongi's eyelashes look as soft as the first time Namjoon notices them and his dark hair is longer now, covering half of his face. Namjoon doesn't know why he's so captivated by Yoongi like this and he should probably stop soon since anyone could get the wrong idea, but Namjoon let his selfishness win for a while this time.
Without him realizing, Namjoon's hand is already two inches away from Yoongi's bangs, ready to move it away so he could see Yoongi's face better. Namjoon then snaps out of his daze but before he could retreat his hand, Yoongi catches it and looks up with his tired eyes.
"You know, if it's not you sitting in front of me and just pretty much staring at me the whole time while I'm sleeping, it would be creepy as hell Joon."
The blush is prominent on Namjoon's face. It's probably the first time Yoongi has ever seen Namjoon this flustered. His usual calm and collected self seems to not function around Yoongi.
"I'm sorry I didn't know you're awake and I know it's creepy but… but you know…" Namjoon stammers, stumbling with his words.
"When's your shift end? Do you still have any class?"
"N-no. My shift ends in two hours." This is cruel, Namjoon thought. How is he supposed to focus on answering Yoongi's question when his hand feels so warm against his wrist? "Why do you ask?"
"Let's do something and eat dinner together. My treat."
"But you have an exam tomorrow. Don't you think you should rest and—"
"It's a date , Namjoon-ah." That finally shuts Namjoon up. His mouth agape and his hand turns limp in Yoongi's grip. "You're blushing."
"N-no you're blushing, hyung."
Yoongi is aware of how messy he looks right now. Dark circles, messy hair, and a blush on his cheeks. He must be looking pretty ridiculous, but he's happy. "You're cute."
"Stop, this is embarrassing." If they were not in public, Namjoon is sure he would run to hide wherever it is just so Yoongi could stop looking at him with a really sweet smile. "Are you serious?"
"What? You don't want to?"
"Of course I want to go, hyung. That's a dumb question."
Offended, Yoongi yanks Namjoon's arms playfully. "Your previous question is dumb too, Joon-ah."
Awestruck, Namjoon feels his jaw start to hurt from smiling too much. When he woke up this morning, the thought of being asked out by Yoongi didn't even cross his mind. He simply only looked forward to going to the library, doing his usual job and meeting Yoongi again. "Ah, you should've given me a heads-up, hyung. I feel like my heart just turned into a ticking bomb and it will explode any second."
"So I should've said hey Namjoon-ah, on Thursday I will ask you out, so be prepared, yeah? " Yoongi laughs, his gummy on display and his nose scrunch makes him look even more adorable.
"Whatever. I'm happy."
"That's great, Joon-ah."

"You owe me lunch for a week Jiminie." Jin cheers quietly.
Jimin groans in defeat, checking the remaining money in his wallet. "I thought you forgot about the bet."
"You guys bet on a stranger's relationship? how come I didn't know about this?"
"That reaction is exactly why, Hoseok-ah." Jin says still with a smile on his face.
"Aw c'mon Hobi hyung, I'll kiss you as an apology." Making exaggerated sounds of smooching, Jimin tries to kiss Hoseok who's resisting on the cheek.
"Why did I agree to be your boyfriend again?"
"Because who doesn't want to be our boyfriend, right Jimin-ah?"
"Did you just forget that we're the ones who practically flirted with him until he agreed to date us?" Jimin says but Jin clearly doesn't care about the details.
"My point still stands."
Hoseok sighs, somehow still not used to his boyfriends' antics. "I have a headache."
"I'll give you a blowjob later Hobi."
"Jin hyung what the fu— we're in public!" Hoseok scream-whisper, pinching his hyung in the arm.
Jimin shrugs. "I don't mind."
"Okay I'm going home." Even though he says that, the blush on Hoseok's face still won't fool Jin and Jimin.
"He's blushing, Jimin."
"He totally loves the idea, hyung."
Hoseok sighs, already five steps away from his boyfriends who are still sitting and staring at him with amused smiles on their faces. "Are you guys coming or not?"
