Ryoumen Sukuna doesn't regret any of his decision.
He takes what he wants, and take away whatever it is that these boring humans took importance of. He finds great joy at watching their expression turns into horror and despair the second they realise that the only thing that keeps them sane was harshly taken away from them.
But right now, that magnificent sight is far from the list of what he wants.
Right now, Ryoumen Sukuna doesn't want anything other than being able to control Itadori Yuuji's body.
The brat was annoying. He isn't entertaining at all with his running mouth and stubborn personality. Sukuna wants nothing else but shred him into pieces sometimes, but he restrains himself. He'll lose his one chance of being fully reincarnated if he kills the brat, and he doubt anyone else can handle his power if they tried to consume his finger.
So he waited patiently. Because he has all the damn time in the world and in order to take over and overpower his host, he needs his fingers to complete his soul.
Months passed, and the opportunity had finally come after the brat swallowed his 20th and last finger. His powers run wildly in his veins and Sukuna never felt more alive as he is right now.
A manic laughter tore from his throat as he rejoices. Finally, he's free! He won't have to stay inside his boring innate domain anymore! The brat can't take his body back now that Sukuna has complete control over it. He'll devour his soul sooner or later. For now, he has matters to attend to.
The matter, he means, is killing every single human in sight as he expanded his domain. Humans and sorcerers alike are all killed in an instant, their mutilated body buried under the falling debris as buildings collapses. Fire starts to engulf the once city after Sukuna set everything on fire.
He cackles, the sound terrifyingly unhinged as it echoes in the city of fire. It's when he had calmed down a bit that he noticed his vessel has been quiet the entire time he was wrecking havoc.
Which is odd. Sukuna had thought that his vessel would try and struggle as he got trapped inside his own mind, but surprisingly enough, he doesn't.
This new behaviour are what pushes him to actually pay his little vessel a visit in his innate domain.
When he had landed on the blood red water, he saw his vessel standing with his back on him. Sukuna watch, as his vessel stares at nothing, the silence that blankets around him unnerving at its stillness.
In all the time that Sukuna had lived with his host, he knew that Itadori Yuuji isn't a quiet person. He talks, and talks, and complain and he just doesn't shut up even when he was forced to.
This new behavior of him irk Sukuna more than anything, because he at least expected for some kind of a fight for control. Yet here he is, standing in the middle of his innate domain, patience running thin as his vessel continues to ignore him.
He was ready to taunt the other so his vessel would fight him when Yuuji beats him up to it as he speaks, his voice indulgent but tired as he turns to face him.
"Are you having fun, Sukuna?"
Sukuna scoffs, his arm crossing on his chest as he grins, all pearly sharp teeth. "Of course i am. After being stucked inside you for months on end, this massacre is just the beginning of what is soon to come."
Sukuna expected him to get angry and challenge him in a fight in order to put a stop on everything. What he didn't expect is his host to give him a small smile and a nod, his usually full of life coppery brown orbs is dimmed and lost its shine. As if someone has snuff the light off of it.
"I see."
If one asked, Sukuna would never admit that he was a bit unnerved with how the brat is acting right now. He's having the bad feeling of something is starting to slip from his grasp, but he doesn't know why did he suddenly felt those when there isn't really a reason to feel it, so he let it be. He'll probably be able to deal with it later.
He watches, as his vessel stare at his reflection on the blood red water, the sadness on his expression was obvious with how his eyes blink rapidly as he drives the unshed tears away, at how his lips quiver. (In either fear or he's close to breaking down, Sukuna doesn't know. And he doesn't care. Tears are form of weakness and it annoys him.)
Sukuna clicked his tongue at the sight. He hates it when Itadori shows his tears. He doesn't know why, but it rubs him wrong. It makes him feel like he want to destroy something. Destroy what? He don't have an inkling. But he doesn't want to see him crying like this.
If he tries to suppress him again, he might have a chance, but Sukuna doubt he'll be able to succeed anyway. He was about to tell the other to save his tears, it won't stop him from wrecking havoc and destroying everything he knew when Yuuji beat him up to it, (again. Why does this brat always took his spotlight away?) sniffing as he do so.
"I'm glad you came down here. I thought i'll have to leave without being able to say goodbye."
Sukuna snorted, as he stares at him as if he just told him the funniest and lamest joke he made. "Brat, you aren't going anywhere. Not if i have a say on it."
Yuuji shook his head sadly at that. Raising his left arm that he had been hiding from his view since earlier, Sukuna noticed that it had begun to look transparent. The look of surprise must be evident on his face as Yuuji lets out a sad chuckle, his eyes looking at him directly.
"Remember the night i swallowed your finger?"
Sukuna nodded. All ill cackles and expression on his face gone, replaced by a blank look.
(He may have looked blank outside, but inside, he feels like he's being torn apart.)
"I already died that night, Sukuna. My soul already crossed the line between life and death the second you took over my body."
Yuuji walked, towards him, past him, and sat on the flat surface of one of the skulls in his domain. When Sukuna turns around, he noticed that his left leg was slowly turning transparent too.
(The sight filled his chest with dread. He knew what is about to come. He doesn't want to think about it.)
"The only reason i haven't really died is because of my grandfather's last wishes. 'Save as many people as you can.' My soul still has a purpose." He looks at him.
"Somehow i knew i can contain you. So i came back and took what was mine, and you were contained, just like that. Imprisoned inside my body just cause my soul wishes to."
Somehow those words filled him with rage. How dare he forcefully shut him out of the world? But then the brat smiled at him, this time even if it was sad, it was genuine. Not force like the one earlier, that it made the words sitting on the tip of his tongue halt from even getting out.
"Can you believe that the only time i felt like i wasn't alone, that i wasn't lonely, was when you're living inside me?" He chuckles, the sound fond but has a sad tinge into it.
(Sukuna wants the sadness in his voice gone.)
"Honestly, that's the reason why i hadn't been able to fully hate you. Because even if you're evil and you always like to make my life living hell, at least i know you're the only one that will stick with me no matter what. I'm thankful for that, Sukuna. Thanks for being there for me."
Clicking his tongue as he looks away, he move to sit not few feet away from his vessel as Sukuna grumbles. "I have no choice but to stick with you, brat. You and i share the same body."
(That isn't what he wanted to say. He really can't stop his own mouth from running, huh?)
Itadori smiled at him, like he knows what he really want to convey at that moment.
Sukuna wants to strangle him.
They stay seated like that for few minutes, maybe an hour or so. Sukuna doesn't know. What he knows is he's trying to memorize how it feels basking in his vessel's presence, and he's trying his best not to think about the emotions that sitting heavily in his chest.
Itadori only talks again when half of his body had turned completely transparent. The sight reminds Sukuna of that one time he cuts him in half. Those are one of the nights they spent arguing about one thing or another.
Itadori stood, and he pats one of the horns of his skulls as if he's silently telling it goodbye.
"Sukuna."
Sukuna grunts to let him know he's listening.
(He doesn't want to. Please don't say goodbye yet.)
"When you fight with Gojo-sensei, tell him he's one of the coolest and strongest person i have ever met, okay?" He added a scolding for a good measure. "And don't twist my words into something only you'd say. You always have a knack of doing that."
Sukuna dig his claws into the white fabric of his kimono. "Tch, no promises, brat."
"And tell Fushiguro and Kugisaki i'm sorry i couldn't fight along side them anymore."
Itadori mumble something along the lines of "they'll kill me the second we meet again, i know it" underneath his breath. Sukuna wants to tape his mouth just to shut it.
(Stop talking. I don't wanna hear your last wishes anymore.)
"And Sukuna?"
Sukuna sighs as he looks at him. He notices that Itadori only have half of his neck and his head this time. As if he's some floating headless man. "What?"
"Live a long life for me."
He felt his world screech into halt as he watch, unmoving, the tears that started to fall on Itadori's still smiling face. Instead of looking sad, he looks peaceful this time, as he slowly flicker in and out of existence, his soul about to disappear into thin air.
(Don't go. Please don't go.)
"Yuujiㅡ"
The moment he opened his mouth, Itadori Yuuji blink out of existence.
It was then that he realised that he lost something that has more worth than his fingers. That has more worth more than his power and his reign.
He lost, the only one who accepted him and his companion in life, because he'd been blind to his wants and power to see that the only thing that he truly needed was there beside him all along.
Ryoumen Sukuna doesn't regret any of his decision. But right now, as he stares at the empty spot where Itadori Yuuji recently stood, he realised that he might have regret one thing.
That is not being able to cherish someone that truly accepted him.
