Chapter Text
Kirishima's POV-
Kirishima came home to his apartment late, after a long day of patrols. He knew Bakugou was probably still on his mission and wouldn’t be home to greet him, something top secret that he got sent on to help with. He hadn't been in touch with him the past few days because of it, and as much as he didn't want to admit it, he was really worried about his roommate.
After finishing their years at UA, the next move was college. Most of the kids in their class went to different schools, depending on where they started with their hero work, but Bakugou and Kirishima were in the same area and ended up at the same university along with Kaminari, Uraraka, Yaoyorozu, and Iida. They decided to move into a small apartment together just off the campus grounds, each with their own room but the rest was shared. Kirishima loved their dynamic, and he was one of the only people who got to see Bakugou's quieter side. The nights he would ‘turn in early’ but actually read for hours, devouring books. Kirishima knew that he was actually a decent cook, he enjoyed doing crossword puzzles to ease his mind, and that as much as he tried to hide his emotions with anger he was a softie for stray dogs. He had even tried to adopt a few and bring them home, but Kirishima reminded him that they weren't allowed to have pets in the apartment.
Kiri and Bakugou had gotten close during UA, and now that they lived together they ended up doing a lot of mundane tasks with each other. Whether it was watching a movie, cooking, buying groceries, playing cards, doing laundry or patching each other up after hard missions the other one was always there to help.
Kirishima would never admit it to himself, but after realizing he was gay and coming out to his friends, he started developing a massive crush on his best friend. He didn't even know if Bakugou liked boys, probably not, he thought to himself. Nevertheless he enjoyed their time together as much as he could, even managing to run his fingers through Bakugou's hair a few times when he fell asleep next to him on the couch.
He was getting bored and anxious without Bakugou around, not to mention lonely. And that definitely didn't help him stop his worrying. All he knew about the mission was that it was very dangerous, top secret, and far away. And that he wouldn't be able to have contact with Bakugou during that time. God this is so hard he mused as he sunk down into the couch flicking through the channels on the tv. He halfheartedly checked his phone for messages, knowing full well that the person he actually wants to hear from won't be texting him.
Even when he was out patrolling he was thinking about Bakugou, and he was so unfocused that he walked straight into a tree once. Kaminari was laughing so hard after seeing him that he had to sit down before continuing their rounds. He smiled at the memory, but it quickly faded.
Kirishima glanced at the countertop where his homework was waiting for him, piling up by the day. He had told the teachers that his patrols were getting longer and he wasn't able to do it all, and they gave him more time. “Anything for our hero in training”. He couldn't bring himself to tell them that the real reason he couldn't focus on his homework and came to class with bags under his eyes was because he was too focused worrying about Bakugou. At least today was friday and he had two days to try and catch up on sleep. He had barely moved in general after Bakugou had left, not having the energy to do even small mundane tasks.
After another hour of meaningless reality shows Kiri clicked off the tv, and went to his room to make an attempt at sleep, but to no avail. When he finally managed to fall into a slumber he was restless, twisting and turning in his sheets, only to wake up in a cold sweat from a dream about the police knocking on his door telling him Bakugou had died.
He was quite shaken after that, he rarely had such vivid dreams before and it seriously scared him. Shaking out his arms, he stood up and headed to the kitchen, because there was no way he was going back to his room. He had planned on making himself a cup of tea, but he decided against it, and instead went to Bakugou's room and curled up in his bed, inhaling the scent of his friend. Bakugou wasn't coming home soon anyway. Kiri was so tired, and he could really use any small sense of comfort after his latest dream. He let his eyes drift asleep and this time, his dreams were filled with pleasant memories of his best friend.
