Bakugou Katsuki's never really thought about romance. At least, not until he's bitch-slapped with the realization that he's kind of maybe actually really into his former childhood friend-turned-rival, who is absolutely head-over-heels for one Uraraka Ochako.
And he's okay with that. Really.
Nevermind the fact that it feels like there's a crater in his chest where his heart used to be. It's even worse when they get together right before Bakugou's supposed to go with Deku and Icy-Hot to the Annual World Hero Conference. Being around Deku when he's all goo-goo-eyed for Round Face is a torture Bakugou isn't sure he's ready to face, so when Kirishima suggests tagging along on an extended rescue training trip in the mountains, he doesn't even think. He just goes.
What he doesn't count on, is the familiar, warm feeling that grows in his chest every time he so much looks at his sharp-toothed, smiley best friend. A feeling that terrifies him, because it's kindling there far, far too soon.

It’s odd, hearing Bakugou speak so calmly about death and loss. Bakugou is all fire and rage and sparks flying from the palms of his hands, fighting tooth and nail to be the best, to be number one, to survive another day. But now, in this isolated and frigid cave, he is cool, he is collected, he has accepted that he may very well die in excruciating pain without seeing the love of his life again.
And it kills Kaminari.
