When Taehyung first met Yoongi when he was 18, there were no fireworks, no sparks, no nothing. The universe did not shift or anything. It was just a coincidental meet that didn't stick with either of them.
He doesn't remember what they talked about, doesn't remember what Yoongi was wearing and frankly... doesn't even remember what Yoongi looked like back then.
All he remembers is a small blur of a man slowly making a print on his life. It was not the first meet that impacted Taehyung, it was the constant, unmovable presence of Yoongi.
Now 23 year old Taehyung feels a gaping hole in his entire being when he is not beside this man that he has outgrown. He feels his eyes water at the thought of ever leaving this man he has come to adore. A knife to his heart even at a glimpse of Yoongi being far away from him.
And Yoongi feels the same.
Taehyung, once who was nothing but a kid had slowly turned into a young adult who Yoongi has come to see as equals. A brat by mouth but irreplaceable on his heart. So very precious, so very needed. Not wanted, needed.
Yoongi who had slowly come to appreciate the colors of the Fall and chills of the winter and Taehyung who had finally come to understand the tunes of the wind and taste of coffee; they were an influence to each other.
An impact that both of them needed.
They were opposites. Two ends of a stick and yet they had the strongest of relationship. Never broken, but even if they were, still intact. It was an irony on itself. Breaking to keep them apart but all you'd get is two of them.
To outside world, they were two pieces of puzzle that fit perfectly. Soulmates even.
Oh how they were wrong.
Soulmates in this world were two people who had the exact tattoo at the exact place, one colored and the other black.
Taehyung had a black tattoo on his left middle finger. A half heart.
Yoongi too had a half heart, black and on his right middle finger.
So close yet so far. So similar yet nothing alike.
They were an 'almost soulmate'. Almost perfect but not.
And while it was sad, it wasn't devastating at that time. They had all their life in front of them to find their soulmates and even if they didn't, it was okay. At that time of finding, they were almost strangers, they didn't mind.
At that time, it was a joke.
Taehyung who cared deeply about finding his soulmate and Yoongi who didn't even look; to them it was competition to see who would break first. Who was right? Who had the superior thought?
But as days progressed, they understood each other.
With the record of 86 percent not even finding their soulmate, Taehyung could understand the logic behind Yoongi's word. And with the 14 percent who found them despite everything, Yoongi understood the sentiments and emotions.
So when Taehyung, 20, started going around asking people to show them inside of their middle finger, despite laughing Yoongi supported him.
When Taehyung showed up to Yoongis' at middle of the night, defeated and crushed, Yoongi comforted him.
When Taehyung woke up the next morning, Yoongi fed him.
When Taehyung was on verge of giving up, Yoongi encouraged him.
When this became a regular thing, Yoongi welcomed him with open arms.
And that's how Yoongi made an impact on Taehyung. And that's how Taehyung, despite going out everyday to find his soulmate fell in love.
At 22, Taehyung realizes alot of things; when things are meant to be they just happen, how fast his heart can beat, how perfectly Yoongi fits against him and what happiness feels like.
At 22, Taehyung realizes that when he holds Yoongi's hand, their tattoos makes a full heart.
And At 22, Taehyung realizes he is in love.
In love with the one he is not meant to be. In love with the one he is not destined for. In love with Yoongi.
And while it is devastating, Yoongi makes it a little better. Small kisses on Taehyung's face ranging from forehead to eyelids to cheeks to the tip of his nose, side of his jawline and even his neck.
But never his lips.
One day though, He will get there.
Because while Yoongi might not be his soulmate, he is his other half.
The only one to complete his half heart.
The only one Taehyung wants.
His 'Soulmate against fate', if Taehyung dared.
