Work Text:

Jean was standing in her office, hands planted, leaning on her desk, scrutinizing the stacks of paperwork lining the table. She had done so much work today, the sun had both rose and set, and she hadn’t left her office for a second. She had begun flipping through a new stack of papers, but the ache in her back was getting to be unbearable. Finally bringing her eyes away from the papers, she stretched her arms up over her head, hoping to relieve any of the tension in her spine. She gazed out the window, still moving her arms around, trying to ignore the pain in her back by focusing on the brightness of the moon.

When was the last time she’d been able to enjoy nature? She thought to herself. Of course she’d gone outside, but it was always for missions, delivering papers, fighting something, helping someone. Jean never took time for herself, though she never regretted it. She liked being able to help Mondstadt, to be it’s Acting Grandmaster in it’s time of need. She had no problem with all the work she did, she enjoyed it, even.

The Dandelion Knight was so lost in thought, she didn’t notice the librarian slipping in through the door behind her. It wasn’t until Lisa had moved a few stacks of paper out of the way to make space on Jean’s desk for a tray, which clattered against the wood.

Jean spun around, a bit shocked at the sudden noise. “Oh, Lisa! What are you doing here? I thought you’d gone home.” Lisa laughed, honey-sweet and soft, floating through the silence of the night. “Of course I haven’t left, dear. I’ve got to make sure my wife isn’t overworking herself, plus the bed gets cold without you. I thought I’d come here to keep you company while you finish up.”

“Oh…” Jean blushed slightly. Though affectionate words such as these were commonplace with Lisa, Jean got flustered every time (a fact the witch relished in).

“I, uh- You brought tea?” the knight stuttered, moving to sit back down at her desk. “Yep~! I know you like coffee better, but I don’t want you drinking all that caffeine before heading home. I’m not letting you stay at headquarters very long tonight,” Lisa stated, and when Jean opened her mouth to object, “No ‘if-’s or ‘but-’s! You’ve been working all day, sweetheart, you need a break. You’re exhausted, I can tell.”

Jean stared at her wife, then nodded, “Ah, fine. I can finish this batch though, yeah? I need it done by tomorrow afternoon.” Lisa, who’d begun pouring the tea into the small porcelain cups she’d brought, spoke without looking up. “Of course, darling, but please, be quick about it, so I can bring you home to sleep a bit, alright?"

The brunette finished pouring the tea, adding sugar (but not cream) before handing it to Jean. “Thanks, I love you,” Jean said fondly, almost embarrassed, which made Lisa grin.

The two women sat side by side, drinking tea and speaking quietly in the soft night. The building was silent, as everyone had already left for home. Jean finished up her paperwork, slowly reaching for another pile as Lisa was distracted. As her fingertips met the paper, a small electric shock was sent through her hand. Jean looked up, making eye contact with Lisa, who’s glare was almost deadly.

“You promised only that bit of paperwork, Jean, you can do the rest tomorrow,” Jean’s eyes widened at the use of her name. Lisa normally only referred to her with pet names, so she knew the witch was serious. “Alright, alright, yeah, I did...” Jean could admit defeat, since Lisa was right, she was exhausted.

Lisa stood from her seat by Jean, offering out a hand to help her up. “Don’t worry about the tray and all that, we can leave it here, I’ll come take care of it in the morning~” Lisa said, still holding Jean’s hand. She led them both toward the door of the office, toward home and a warm bed.
