Work Text:
It all started when Jimin was twelve and Hoseok was thirteen.
How? Jimin doesn’t really know but I can tell you. Sit back and relax because story-time is about to start.
On a particular rainy day, Hoseok asks Jimin to follow him during lunch recess. Jimin was kind of surprised because while Hoseok and he were friends, they had never spent lunch break together so of course he agreed. When Hoseok smiled and took Jimin’s hand to guide him, Jimin found himself smiling too.
The path they took was fairly familiar, classrooms adorning the halls on each side of them. They passed by both of their respective classrooms so Jimin checked those out of his mental list. When they suddenly took a left turn instead of the usual right that led to the gym, Jimin immediately knew where they were going. Why was he-
“-taking me to the janitor’s closet?” Jimin asked. Instead of answering, Hoseok just opened the door to the aforementioned closet and shrugged Jimin inside quickly with him and then closed the door. With his hand still on the doorknob, the older boy turned towards him looking kind of scared. Hoseok looked into Jimin’s eyes directly and asked the question that changed everything.
“Do you trust me?”
And Jimin’s heart did a thing. He didn’t know what it was but he did feel his cheeks blush. He nodded his head yes but apparently that wasn’t enough.
“Jiminie, I want you to say it.” Hoseok said with a pout on his face and Jimin couldn’t help but smile, a little less nervous. “Yes Hoseok hyung, I trust you.” And he was giggling. They both were. But then Hoseok was stepping closer and they were still giggling. And then Hoseok cupped his hand on Jimin’s cheek and pecked his lips. They stayed like that for a few seconds before Hoseok pulled away, cheeks on fire.
Even though Jimin was surprised and a bit scared, he decided to be brave.
“Why’d you stop? That felt good.” And he was being completely honest. With himself and with Hoseok. Sure it was scary but at the end of the day, Hoseok started it, no? He could retaliate with that if (when) Hoseok told him he was weird.
But Hoseok only smiled, albeit a bit sheepishly, and gestured for him to sit down.
“Can I tell you something?” He said as he sat down in front of Jimin.
“Sure.”
“Well, some guys in my class were making fun of me because I hadn’t had my first kiss yet. I,” he stopped and looked down, collected himself for a bit, and then continued again. Jimin found it endearing.
“I thought that I needed to talk to a girl to get her to kiss me but I was way too nervous. So I decided to get you to help me.” He looked up at him and smiled. “I didn’t get to kiss you though, it was just a peck. I was supposed to kiss you but I chickened out.”
And Jimin was really brave today. He didn’t know what got into him but he opened his mouth again.
“Well, you can kiss me. I don’t mind.” Hoseok's smile slipped off his face when he said this and instead it was replaced with a shocked face; eyes wide and mouth agape.
“Wait… are you serious? I can?” He sounded shocked and Jimin was honestly confused.Didn’t he say he liked when he pecked him literally a minute ago? Maybe he didn’t hear him?
In any case, Jimin started nodding his head but he stopped himself, saying a quick yes instead that made Hoseok stifle a laugh. He was happy and this was all just so exciting.
He scooted himself a bit closer to Hoseok, since they both sat criss cross applesauce in front of each other, it was easy to get knee-to-knee if they did decide they wanted to do anything. Hoseok looked at Jimin for a second before he cupped his cheeks again, this time with both hands, and pecked him again. This time, the peck was more firm and less nervous (though Jimin could still tell he was). They stayed like that for a bit until Hoseok titled his head, making the kiss deeper. It felt… good. Nice. Warm. He liked it.
When Hoseok started moving his mouth against his, Jimin did the same, following Hoseok’s lead and they made out until the bell rang (which meant they made out for 6 minutes) and then they made sure to walk out of the closet at different times, just to be sure.
When Jimin made his way back to his classroom, he could tell people were staring at him.
He sat in his usual seat which was right next to Taehyung, and trusted the boy to fill him in.
“I don’t know how to break this to you but, were you kissing someone?”
And of course Jimin blushed, he felt it himself. After that day, both JImin and Hoseok were more careful. They continued to meet in the closet and make out for what seemed hours, Hoseok bringing a pocket mirror from his sister to help them look normal when they went back to class. It was nice, doing something so intimate with a friend. But…
When did they stop being friends?
The year was 2012. Actually, the year is 2012.
Jimin and Hoseok laid on Hoseok’s bed, cuddling after their - now common - make out sessions. It was Sunday, a day after Jimin’s birthday, and Hoseok showered him with love. It made Jimin feel giddy and childish, like he once did all those years ago. One thing that was different though was, he was doubting .
He wasn’t doubting whether this was a good idea, Jimin knew it was a terrible idea a few days after they started the whole ordeal, but he was doubting whether or not this was all platonic.
Ever since that day, Hoseok never looked at any girl the way he looked at Jimin. The one second too long stares, the affection in his eyes, the warmth Jimin felt when he was with him…
Jimin wasn’t stupid, he knew he liked, maybe even loved Hoseok but what about Hoseok? What if it was all in Jimin’s head? What if they stopped whatever they had going on because Hoseok realized he liked some other person?
It was eating Jimin alive and he decided to put on his big boy pants.
“Hoseok, can you give me one last birthday gift?”
He felt Hoseok giggle more than he heard him. “What do you want, hmm?” And suddenly they were eye to eye. Jimin’s arms and leg thrown over Hoseok. He felt warm and even though he didn’t want the warmth to go, he decided he wouldn't be selfish.
“Do you like me?”
He felt the other’s body freeze up and then relax again. “Honestly? Yeah. Was I that obvious?” And He was laughing which in turn made Jimin laugh. A chemical response if you will.
“I mean besides the whole making out? I think we were both obvious.” Jimin said with a small smirk on his face.
“So… what do you want as a last birthday gift?” Hoseok said, holding Jimin’s hand in his.
“Be my boyfriend?” And Hoseok nodded. “Hobi hyung, I want you to say it.” Jimin said with a pout on his face and excitedly, Hoseok said yes.
Years later, when Jimin was 26 and Hoseok was 27, they got married. November 27th. When they started their honeymoon, Hoseok confessed that was the day it all started for them back in middle school. Tuesday November 27th, 2007. Jimin laughed, swatting him away. Of course Hoseok made it corny.
Hoseok was always so sweet, much like his kisses.
