“Damn it”, Izuku muttered out as he dug through the mess of bags on the living room floor desperately looking for the tape he knew he had just had in his hand less than a minute ago. Today was their first Valentine’s Day, after graduating UA, and Izuku wanted to make it special. So his plan was to decorate the apartment and order them dinner from their favorite restaurant, but so far all he had managed to do was make a mess of their living room.
He had somehow come up with good excuses to get his partners out of the house while he did his sad attempt at decorating. He told Shouto they were out of cat food, and that they needed some groceries (both of which weren’t necessarily untrue), and he had asked Tenya to run (most likely literally) by his hero agency to pick up some paperwork he needed and asked if he wouldn’t mind dropping something off to his mom while he was out. Both of those things should hopefully give him at least a couple of hours to get this all set up, but he still knew his time was limited.
“Where the hell is it'', he said with a frustrated groan as he rummaged through the bags until he heard the sound of the key's jingling outside of the front door. How could either of them be back so soon? It’s only been like ten minutes! The knob started to turn and he didn’t know what to do, so he made a beeline for the door, stepping outside and quickly closing it behind him. Which caused him to accidentally run into the now startled Shouto. “H-hey babe”, Izuku said with a nervous laugh. He didn’t get any response from Shouto, just him staring back at him with a scared look on his face, “sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you, are you okay?”
Shouto took a small step back, “yeah, fine”, he said before biting his lip nervously, “What are you doing?”
Izuku nervously laughed again trying to think of a good answer to that question, “well I just wanted to greet you at the door, silly”, he said adding another nervous laugh, “what are you doing back so soon?”
Shouto gave him a confused look but apparently had decided not to question his behavior, “I forgot my wallet”.
“Oh, uhh okay”, that was good because Izuku would still have plenty of time to decorate, all he would have to do is get Shouto his wallet, “uhh, I’ll just go get it for you, where is it”?
Shouto continued to give him a questioning look, “I can get it myself, Izuku”.
Shit, okay, what excuse can he come up with now.. “I know, I just want to be helpful..”
“You’re acting weird..”
“w-what, no, I’m not acting weird. How am I acting weird?”, Izuku said, he was sure he could hear his voice raise at least two octaves, as he nervously scratched at the back of his neck, “j-just let me get your wallet for you, where is it? Or you know what, I’ll pay for groceries, here!” He said, pulling his wallet out of his pocket before grabbing his card.
Shouto ran his hands together in a nervous stim, “I’d rather have my wallet” he said quietly.
“Okay, where is it I’ll get it”.
Shouto continued to give him a nervous look but slightly nodded, “It should just be on the kitchen counter”.
“Okay, I’ll be right back”, Izuku said as he ran into the apartment grabbing Shouto’s wallet and bringing it out to him, “here you go”, he said with a nervous smile.
“Thanks”, Shouto said a bit awkwardly before he started to walk away.
Izuku could tell he had made Shouto nervous, but he wasn’t exactly sure what the best thing to do was. He definitely wanted this to be kept a surprise, but he didn’t want Shouto to be worried all day, “Hey Shouto”, Izuku called to him, causing Shouto to flinch a little before turning around.
“Yeah?”
“I love you, baby”, he said with a smile, as he slowly stepped closer to him, giving Shouto enough time to step away if he wanted to, before gently grabbing his hand.
Shouto let out a light breath, and gave a small smile, “I love you too”, he said before leaning down slightly and softly kissing Izuku.
After he pulled away Izuku looked up at him with a smile, “ I will see you later okay?”, he said before bringing Shouto’s hand up to his lips softly kissing the knuckles, before letting go of his hand. He could tell Shouto was becoming more relaxed, good, he really didn’t want him to stress all day because he thought Izuku was doing something bad.
He knew surprises were not typically Shouto’s thing, but he was hoping this would be different. It’s not like it was a big surprise or anything either, it was just something small. It shouldn’t be anything that would really catch Shouto off guard or put him on edge.
Shouto nodded, before kissing Izuku one more time, and then heading back down the stairs the lead to the exit of their apartment complex.
Izuku turned around and went back into their apartment. As he looked at the living room he started to get slightly overwhelmed. Tenya would be furious if he saw how messy everything was right now, good thing Tenya won’t be seeing it like this. He let out a determined noise and set back on his mission to find the tape, finally finding it hidden under a bag of streamers.
After another hour or so, the decorations were up and he was on the way home from picking up their food. He looked down at his phone, nervously taking note of the time. He knew Shouto and Tenya would be home soon, he was just hoping he would beat them there. He probably should have driven instead of choosing to walk, but the restaurant was only a five-minute walk, so at the time he hadn’t seen much of a reason to. But now he was starting to get nervous he made the wrong choice. He bit his lip nervously, trying to walk a little faster, almost wondering if he should use his quirk just to add a little bit more speed until he felt his phone vibrate in his hand.
It was a call from Tenya. He felt his stomach sink, he was really hoping that Tenya hadn’t beaten him home.
“Hey Ten”, He said trying to hide his nervousness as he answered the phone.
“Hello, I was just calling to let you know I am on the way home”, Tenya said.
Izuku let out a small sigh of relief. That meant that he still had a good fifteen minutes before Tenya got there, now all he had to worry about was Shouto.
“Oh okay’, Izuku said into the phone as he reached their apartment.
“Is Shouto back yet”, Tenya asked.
“Well I actually had to step out for a minute, so I am not sure, but I don’t think so. Why?”
“No reason really”, Tenya said, but he seemed to hesitate with that answer, “I was just wondering”, he paused for a second, “Well I have to make one more quick stop and then I will be home”.
They quickly exchanged their goodbyes and Izuku walked into their apartment and much to his relief Shouto was not there yet. He looked around the living room and smiled proudly. Sure, the decorations were kind of tacky and cheesy, but he thought it added to the charm of it all. He went into the kitchen and laid down the food trying to figure out if there was a way you can lay out to-go boxes in a way that makes them look more presentable. He pulled the boxes out of the bag a moved them around to different positions on the table before eventually just giving up. It didn’t really matter if the food looked presentable.
As he walked out of the kitchen, he heard Tenya outside the door talking to someone. He wasn’t sure if he and Shouto had just so happened to show up at the same time and were talking to each other, or if Tenya was talking on the phone to someone. It seemed like Tenya was waiting for a second, finishing up his conversation before he came in so, he guessed it was the latter.
Izuku wondered if he should go out there and try to stall him and wait for Shouto. Since Tenya wasn’t actively trying to get in the door, it would probably be less awkward than it was with Shouto plus he wanted both of his partners to see the decorations at the same time. Izuku decided that was probably the best option as he opened the front door, stepping out and closing it behind him to see Tenya leaning against the wall facing away from Izuku, as he continued to talk on the phone apparently not noticing him yet. Izuku smiled, as he noticed the two bouquets of roses and boxes of chocolates along with another bag Tenya had in his hand, so it seemed he wasn’t the only one planning a surprise for Valentine’s day. Which honestly he wasn’t really all that surprised about it, it would be kind of weird if he was the only one out of his partners to do something to celebrate.
“Okay…. okay…. I will talk to you later….. bye Tensei”, Tenya said into his phone, before putting it into his pocket.
“What did Tensei have to say”, Izuku said which caused Tenya to jump slightly before quickly turning around trying to hide the gifts behind his back.
“Izuku!”, He said obviously surprised, “how long have you been out here”.
Izuku smiled, “a couple of minutes.. Why?”
“I-I just, I-” Tenya said, as he still tried his hardest to hide keep the gifts out of Izuku’s sight.
Izuku walked up to him, wrapping his arms around his neck before kissing him, “I totally did not see the amazing gifts you got us”, he said with a laugh.
Tenya let out a frustrated groan, “It was supposed to be a surprise, I was hoping I would beat you home”.
Just as Tenya got done saying that they heard a set of footsteps lightly making their way up the stairs before Shouto came into their line of sight, carrying his own gifts for them, but his were two heart-shaped balloons along with small stuffed animals that were holding boxes of chocolates.
“What are you two doing out here”, Shouto said giving them an odd look.
Izuku pulled away from Tenya, excitedly bouncing on the balls of his feet, as the smile on his face somehow grew bigger, “I wanna show you guys something”, He said before opening the door. He stepped into the living room as his partners followed close behind him.
“Aw Izuku”, Tenya said, “This is lovely”.
Izuku turned around smiling brightly and seeing a matching smile on both of his partners' faces,
“Oh and I also got us dinner”, Izuku added excitedly, which caused the look on Tenya’s face to suddenly change, “Is something wrong Tenya”.
Tenya looked almost a little embarrassed, “no, not really it’s just that I also got us dinner..”, he said as he pulled out one of the bags that he had kept behind his back, that Izuku could now see was full of to-go boxes, causing all three of them to laugh.
