Work Text:
Alright, you can do this. You can do this, Izuku Midoriya. He thought to himself, looking at the small box and bouquet. He pried open the small box, the key with the room number glinting against the glaring sun, scratching his head curiously after tucking the bouquet under his arm. His scarred hand trembled slightly as he stared at the key.
Urgh, what if she says no? I mean, dating is one thing, but living together? Under the same roof? What would she think? Izuku’s thought boiled over to the point that he felt that his freckles would pop off his face like shrapnel from a grenade. He knew that they’d be needing to find housing situations after they packed up. At first, he thought he’d live with his mother till he gets enough money to move somewhere else.
“Where I’ll live? Izuku, you don’t need to worry about that. I’m quite used to living on my own. Besides, we’ll find time to be together.” That’s what Ochako had told him when they were discussing where they were going to go after graduation. Some of his friends are staying in apartments in the agencies they’ll be joining, some are moving home, others are living on their own. Izuku knew that Ochako was more than capable of taking care of herself. But the idea of not being able to be with her, after all they’ve been through, made his heart ache.
Izuku then snapped the box shut, shoving it into his back pocket while putting the bouquet in his hand, taking a deep breath to steady himself. Alright, it’s now or never. He picked up his bag and went looking to find Ochako.
After winding through hallways and peering into rooms, watching the classrooms full of students studying until he found himself at the side entrance of the Heights Alliance dorms. He walked around the corner of the building and made his way through the front entrance, glancing around the commons to find Ochako sitting on the couch, staring at her phone until she caught sight of him from the corner of her eye. He waved and she waved back, standing up from her seat and greeting him with a hug.
“Oh! These are for you.” Izuku handed Ochako the bouquet of pink roses, the brightness of the petals complimenting her blush marks. Ochako smiled down at the flowers, smelling their sweet scent.
“Thank you, Izuku. They’re very pretty.” Ochako hugged him, her roses draping over his shoulder as he gently squeezed her closer to himself.
“Ochako, I- I’d like to ask you something important.” Izuku uttered out, his voice shaking from his faltering nerve.
“Is there something wrong?” Ochako tilted her head, concerned.
“No, I just want to ask you something.” He said, slowing his breathing to keep himself calm.
Ochako sat down on the couch, setting her roses by her lap as Izuku sat down next to her, the box in his pocket jabbing his behind. Izuku looked into her eyes and took her hands, taking a deep breath.
“Izuku, what’s going on? Are you okay?” Ochako gently slipped her hand away to cup his cheek.
“Ochako, there’s something you need to know.” Izuku suffused, his mind racing.
“What is it?” Ochako asked, her eyes still on him.
“I found an apartment, a nice place that I’ll be staying at. Toshinori is paying the first year for me to stay there before I can pay for rent.” Izuku explained, his hands clasping onto hers as he rubbed his thumbs against the back of her hand.
“That’s great!” Ochako smiled, leaning closer to hear more.
“Well, there’s one more thing. The apartment is large enough to house two people comfortably.” Izuku added on.
“Izuku, what are you saying?” Ochako asked, her smile slowly becoming a little more surprised and confused. Her eyes widened as she watched Izuku slip off the couch, kneeling in front of her as he pulled out the small box to reveal the key.
“Ochako, you’ve been my best friend ever since I came into UA, and ever since you’ve always had my back. And I promised myself I will always have yours. For these past four years you have been my best friend, and this past year you have been my girlfriend. Ochako…” He said as he opened the box, revealing the key. All the looking into her eyes with a sincerity that even All Might wouldn’t be able to shake.
“I don’t want to just take this next step, I want to take every step, with you. Whatever you decide, wherever you go, you can do it. And I’ll always have your back. And you’ll always have my love...” Izuku kept on going, the words pouring out like a torrent.
“Izuku…” Ochako couldn’t find the words, her heart pounding in her ears as she took his hands. Her smile bubbling out as she just nodded, doing her best to keep up with him.
“I know I might be going a little fast. Sudden even. But we’re going to be professional heroes soon, and our future outside of UA is awaiting us, and I want to spend that future with you. Life is fleeting and it’s precious, and when you find someone you want to share your joy with and that somebody gives you hope and faith in yourself, you have…” Izuku was cut off as Ochako covered his mouth, before she pulled her hand away and kissed him on the lips, his peroration pulled to a halt.
“I love you so much.” Ochako said after pulling away, Izuku huffing and puffing as he did his best to catch his breath.
“So that’s a yes?” Izuku asked, his breath still catching up.
“Yes, Izuku. I’ll move in with you.” Ochako said, picking the key out of the box and marveling at it. All the while Izuku watched her smile and thought of how lucky he was to have her.
