as usual, kou was making dinner for his siblings. tonight, they wanted stew. of course, he wasn't over the severance and had to resist the urge to breakdown right then and there. as he chopped up the vegetables, he felt the need to cut his wrists. kou set down the knife and took deep breathes. he picked up the knife again and slowly cut the carrots. he had finished them soon after and realized there weren't potatoes. he usually shrugged it off and would leave it out. but now he knew how mitsuba die. he told teru to watch over the food, hoping he wouldn't somehow ruin the food. kou put on his shoes and coat, walking out of the house and into the snow. the sidewalks were empty and the lights were flickering every once in awhile.
"you didn't need to die for it," kou whispered. "not for a stupid ingredient."
"was it because it was a special for your mother? were you blinded by the snow?" he muttered. "or were you just a careless idiot?"
kou's eyes were full of tears, but not one fell out. "you could've just let it be, potatoes are just a side dish. but you're a stupid idiot.. and... and you went to go buy the potatoes and weren't careful... you idiot.." kou said, constantly stuttering in his sentence. his steps were steady.
"stupid mitsuba... stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid..." he spoke. it was a bit "selfish" of him to scold his best friend for dying.
yet he was doing the same thing, he was being careless and standing in the middle of the road. his mind was filled with mitsuba that he didn't look to see where he was going. he was careless. time had stopped. all he could hear were the sound of albulance sirens, ringing, beeping, and voices. they were all unknown voices. except one.
"oh, minamoto-kun. you should be more careful."
"mitsuba...?"
"the kids delusional!"
"who's the mitsuba he's talking about?"
"i hope he'll be okay."
"he seems so young..."
