Work Text:
Jotaro looked up from his notes as Rohan threw his pencil across the room. He sat his pen down on the coffee table, “You good?”
“No! I’m not good.”
“Can I ask why you threw your good pencil across the living room?”
“I can’t get this stupid drawing right. I haven’t even gotten past the stupid sketch. Nothing looks right and I hate it so much.”
“ You can’t draw? That’s something I thought I’d never hear you say.”
“Okay asshole,” Rohan said, lightly kicking Jotaro in the leg, “I’ve been trying to get it right for the last hour, I don’t know what’s wrong with me.”
Jotaro put his hand out, “Let me see.”
“How are you going to help?”
“I know some things about art, I can at least look at it and see. Just let me see it, I’ll try and help you the best I can.”
Rohan sighed as he handed Jotaro his sketchbook, “This publishing company needs me to do a full spread for one of their next publications and suddenly I can’t draw any of my characters correctly that I’ve been drawing for the last five years.”
“Move them around then. If it’s going to be published across two pages, you don’t want your main focus in the center. Pink Dark Boy will be in the crease if you don’t move him.”
Rohan moved closer to Jotaro and rested his chin on the other’s shoulder, “I guess you have a point. I just- It looks wrong! I don’t know what’s actually wrong though.”
“It looks fine, you’re just nervous.”
“I am not nervous! I’ve been doing this since I was sixteen, there’s nothing to be nervous over anymore,” Rohan replied. He took Jotaro’s pen, “I hate being an artist sometimes.”
“Rohan I need that.”
“Yeah well my pencil is over there and I have to start this sketch all over again.”
“Why would you want to sketch in pen?”
“Because my pencil is over there.”
“You threw it there.”
“I did, yeah.”
Jotaro softly sighed, “Just work on your drawing, surely you’ll figure something out. You’re a good artist, you just need to focus. Or something.”
“Or something?”
“Well you seem pretty focused, that’s just also the only thing I can think of saying. Or take a break, we’ll go get dinner.”
“Hm, okay. Let’s go get dinner, I’ll work on it more when we get back,” Rohan said, getting up from the couch, “I’m keeping this pen, by the way. It’s fancy.”
“That’s fine, I’ll just get a new one when we come back. Come on.”
Rohan grabbed his sketchbook and slipped on one of the pairs of shoes by the door, “I’m coming! Don’t rush me.”
