Goodie List Prolog: A little kindness can go a long way

Summary:

A little kindness can go a long way. When Bakugou decided to do something nice for Mina, he had not expected it would lead to a friendly class competition that would bring everyone in class 1A closer together. Each chapter will focus on a different character in relation to Bakugou.

Prolog: Bakugou sees Mina in the common rooms of the dorms and notices she is not feeling well. Much to her surprised he helps her to make her feel better.

Hello, thank you for taking an interest in this story :D

Work Text:

Mina lay in the common room on the couch, unable to get up. She pressed a cushion against her stomach and shifted back and forth. Pain shot through her arms and legs down to the tips of her toes and her stomach hurt so much she felt nauseous. She was absolutely miserable and a she couldn‘t hold back a whine, when suddenly something was tapped against her shoulder.

Mina turned her head to look at Bakugou holding a hot water bottle.
„Your stomach hurts, right?“ the blonde asked when she just continued to stare.
She took the hot water bottle and pressed it against her stomach.

„Thank you.“ she said relieved but also embarrassed. She didn‘t know anyone else was in the dorms right now- especially Bakugou. As far as she knew everyone left to meet their family for the day or went into the city.

„Have you taken any meds yet?“ Bakugou asked.
„What?“ As if the hot water bottle hadn‘t been surprising enough he answered her.
„You‘re on your period, right? Do you need any painkillers?“
„I ran out and everyone‘s door is locked.“ She said miserably.

Next thing she knew Bakugou dropped some ibufrofen in her hand and went to the kitchen to return with a glass of water.
„You want some tea?“ Bakugou asked.
“You’d make some?” Mina asked hopeful.
“I just offered, didn’t I?”
Mina let a low whine slip as an intense cramp overcame her. “Please?” She said and once again Bakugou headed towards the kitchen.

She noted he had added one of Yaoyorozu’s special teas that helped with cramps.
“I’m really surprised, you know. But thank you.” She said, hunched over pressing against the hot water bottle. “You saved me from dying!” She added dramatically, which earned her an eye roll. She sipped at her tea and waited for the pills to fully kick in.

“How do you even know about all this? Even my dad just walks away uncomfortably whenever he realizes what’s going on.”
“Not everyone’s ignorant about basic human functions.”
Mina wasn’t sure what she had expected but it wasn’t that.

“Do you have sisters?” She was pretty sure he was an only child, but maybe she had misunderstood.
“No.” Bakugou said, then added. “But my mom’s a demon when she’s on hers.”
“Oh.” Mina wasn’t sure how much more he could surprise her today. “So you’re a momma’s boy!”
“The fuck! Do you want me to blow you up?!”

“No, no! I’m sorry!” Mina apologized quickly.
Bakugou settled back down into the cushions of the other sofa and pulled out his phone.

“So why are you here?” Mina finally asked.
“I live here?”
“Well, yeah. But why didn’t you go home or out with the others?”
Bakugou waited a moment thinking about not answering. “My therapy session was moved to today.”

“You go to therapy?! I had no idea!”
Bakugou glared at her. This was why he didn’t want to tell her.
“No, no. Hold on. I mean good for you! That’s great. I’m just surprised. First you bring me painkillers and tea and now I learn you go to therapy.”
“You forgot the hot water bottle.”

“Hugh?”
“I also brought you a hot water bottle.”
“Oh. Of course! Thanks again. So... how’s therapy? Why do you go?”
Bakugou only stared at her.
“Ah, that was a stupid question. Sorry. You don’t have to say.”
“Whatever.”

“What do you talk about?” Mina asked jokingly. Yes, she felt much better already.
“That’s basically the same question, idiot!“
Mina laughed. “Sorry, sorry!” She said and held up her hands in defense before pressing the hot water bottle back against her stomach. “Does it help? With whatever..?”
Bakugou sighed. “I’m sitting here with you, aren’t I?”

“Am I some weird therapy homework? Like, do you have to be nice to others? Is that it?”
To Minas surprise Bakugou looked away.
“Oh my god! It totally is! I can’t believe it! Well I’m happy to help. You may continue to bring me stuff! Foot rubs are also appreciated. Where can I sign?”
“You are worse than Kaminari with your stupid babbling and what the hell do you want to sign?!”

“I don’t know? A report card? Do I get to give reviews? Or is it just a star rating type thing from one to five? I’ll give you five for the effort, but have to reduce one for calling me an idiot.”
“Yeah, I’m out. You definitely are feeling too good again.”
“Nooo! Wait. I’m in paiiiiiin.” Mina mock wailed after him.

A few hours later Kirishima, Kaminari and Sero returned from their trip downtown. Mina still sat in the common area, luckily not in as much pain anymore.

“Hi! Welcome back!” She greeted them from her spot on the couch and watched them go to the kitchen to put away whatever they had bought.
“What is this?” Kaminari asked looking at a paper hanging on the fridge. It definitely hadn’t been there before they left.
“Bakugou’s goodie list?” Sero read out loud.
“Isn’t it neat?” Mina asked. “I made it myself!” She said and jumped up and over to the boys.
“Well... maybe we could say if we at least knew what it is?” Kirishima suggests.

“I’m giving him stars for good behavior. Today he brought me painkillers and tea. Oh! And a hot water bottle. Can’t forget about that.”
“You hurt yourself?”
“Why did you need a hot water bottle?”

“You are all idiots.” Bakugou walked up to the kitchen after coming back down from his room. Kirishima had sent him a text they were back. “She’s on her period.”
“Oh.” Kaminari, Sero said Kirishima said dumbfounded and embarrassed.
“Bakugou! Look what I made for you.” Mina waved him closer.
“The fuck is this?!”
“See? I gave you a little star because you were so nice to me today!” Mina said proudly.
“We’re not in Kindergarden!”

“But you can show this to your therapist.” Mina suggested.
Sero and Kaminari mostly looked confused but also amused. Kirishima felt more surprised and also worried about Bakugou exploding any second now. BOOM. An explosion came from the blonde’s hands. At least nothing got damaged.

“What the fuck pinkie?!” He snarled.
“Oh shit. I’m so sorry! I totally forgot it’s a secret or something. Just forget I said anything.” She said, turning to the other three boys. “Also, Pinkie is literally my hero name. You can’t use it as an insult. It’s basically a compliment! Oh! Do you see me as your hero? I’ll protect you anytime.” She said and Bakugou could only be held back by Kirishima stepping besides the two.

“I think that explosion just now should get points reduced.” Kaminari said grinning. It were moments like this, Kirishima questioned his friend’s intelligence.
“I want in on this too. Can we all have our own category?” Sero asked.
“What the hell?! Leave that alone! Earn your own fucking stars!”
Everyone pauses at that, before it registered to Bakugou what he just said and everyone broke down laughing.

“That is a great idea Sero!” Mina said, taking the paper down. She frowned at it. “Hmmm... I guess we should just make a new, bigger one.”
“And we need rules!” Kaminari said. “Explosions mean point reduction!”
“I’m going to reduce you of your last brain cell if you continue!” Bakugou threatened.

“Does anyone have a big sheet of paper?” Mina asked.
Everyone shook their head.
“We could ask Yaoyorozu if she could make us some.” Kirishima suggested, smiling apologetically at Bakugou.

And that’s how Yaoyorozu found herself surrounded by the Bakusquad the second she got back to the dorms.
“You want me to make a large piece of paper? What for?”
“This!” Mina said and held up her old version of Bakugou’s goodie list. “We have to make a bigger version, so we all can get our section.”
“What exactly is this?” Yaoyorozu asked, still confused.
“He was nice to me, so I gave him a star.” Mina pointed out her scribbled star.

“I see…” Yaoyorozu said, skeptically looking at Bakugou who stood besides them all with crossed arms. He frowned but also looked like he dared her. The question was just… did he dare her to do it or not to do it?
It was a funny idea…

“Well… can I get a section too?” She smiled. If she was going to risk her life she might as well make it worth it.
“Yes!” Mina, Kirishima, Kaminari and Sero said at the same time.

Before Bakugou could protest Yaoyorozu pushed her shirt aside and created a large piece of paper. They all went back down to the common area to work on it in the living room area. They used Mina’s markers to decorate it nicely. Of course their enthusiasm over a poster was soon noticed by others and Ochako came closer together with Jirou.

“What are you doing?” Ochako asked at the odd sight. Well, the Bakusquad being together wasn’t that unusual, but seeing Yaoyorozu with them? That called for questions.
“We’re making a table to see who Bakugou is nicest to.” Kaminari offered up an explanation easily.

“That won’t work. He’ll just ignore us that way.” Sero reasoned.
“And Kiri would easily win.” Mina put in, which caused the read head as well as Bakugou, who sat on the couch pretending to be upset about the entire matter, to blush.
“Maybe he should be nice to everyone at least ten times.” Jirou suggested quietly.
“Yeah!” Mina agreed.
“Good idea Jirou.” Kaminari said with a smile.

“Can we join?” Ochako asked.
“No! You can’t. This entire thing is bullshit. If I have to do this, everyone has to!” Bakugou protested.
“So that’s not a no on the entire project.” Sero summarized.

“What’s the point in that? We’d all have our stars before you even get started.” Kaminari claimed and in the next moment he ducked and ran away from Bakugou chasing after him.
“Get back here brain freeze!” Bakugou yelled.
Kaminari jumped back over one of the couches. “No, I mean it. Everyone else is nice already.”

“I never see you cooking dinner.” Bakugou said. “Or clean.” He added.
“So this is basically a chore board?” Oachako asked.
“No.” Mina shook her head. “That would be boring.”
“You only say that because you don’t do shit either.” Bakugou said.

“A chore board might be a good idea though.” Jurou put in. “There definitely are some of us who do more chores than others.”
“But that defeats the purpose of doing something nice for specific people.” Mina argued.
“You just want me to be your butler. Give up on that.” Bakugou said.

“What is going on here?” Idas voice sounded behind them. Their class president walked towards them with Midoriya and Tokoyami.
“We want to make a chore board” Ochako said.
“It’s not a chore board!” Mina protested once again.
“It’s a ‘Bakugou has to be nice to people’ poster” Kirishima explained and received an angry glare for being a traitor.

“I want him to be nice to me too! Put my name down!” Dark Shadow piped up.
“Like hell I am! Quirks don’t get a column.” Bakugou immediately said.
“That was not very nice.” Kirishima noted.
“Point reduction!” Kaminari yelled and ducked to avoid getting hit with Bakugou’s fist.

“This sounds fun! I want to join too!” Hagakure said.
“Sure!” Mina said. “So… Hagakure, Dark Shadow-...”
“I already said no quirks! What’s next?! Kouda’s bunny?”
“Great idea!” Mina said. “Oh… but we’ll need an even larger piece of paper or carton if that’s the case.

“Hmm…” Yaoyorozu thought out loud. “Maybe we should make this a class activity after all.”
“Well… at least it will be a competition I can finally win against Kacchan…” Kaminari teased, already ducking while still speaking.
This time Bakugou didn’t go after him though.

“So it’s decided? Everyone will join?” Mina asked and looked around.
“We should ask the others if they want to, before we decide for them.” Ida reasoned.
“I already did.” Midoriya admitted and held up his phone with the class chat open.

They waited a while until everyone responded. Of course everyone was eager to participate and Oujirou who was at the mall offered to bring materials so that Yaoyorozu wouldn’t have to waste too much energy.

All the others had hurried back to the dorms and eagerly waited for Oujirou to get back.
“So what are the exact rules to this?” Tsu asked once she sat down next to Ochako.
“I think everyone should do ten nice things for someone else.” Mina said.
“Does baking or cooking count?” Satou asked.

“It could.” Sero shrugged when no one else answered.
“But you can’t just cook for everyone all the time.” Mina protested.
“Hey, at least Bakugou would have to look for something else to do.” Kaminari grinned.
“We are twenty people and if each person has to receive ten favors that’s 190 chances to do something.” Midoriya muttered more to himself than anyone else.

“The stickers get added by the person who received the favor, right?” Tsu asked.
“Oh! Does everyone decide for themself if the favor was good enough? Or are there rules?” Ochako realized.
“I think we should set up some rules so things will be fair.” Ida said seriously. “If two participating people are in disagreement whether or not one of them deserves a sticker others can be asked and it will be put to vote.” Ida explained.

No one fought him on the rule and a jumbled mess of “Yeah” “Ok” “That sounds fair” could be heard.
“Okay, but let’s add that it can’t always be the same thing.” Kaminari suggested.
“That makes sense. You could clean one time, share snacks some other time…” Kirishima agreed.

“This sounds like a really good bonding exercise! We can all learn more about one another!” Hagakure said excitedly.
“We’ve been living here for months.” Bakugou finally spoke up again, but went ignored.
“Oh! And it should not be necessary to spend money! If you want to you can, but you should not buy stickers of others!” Ida said, which caused Ochako to sigh in relief.

“What if someone steals someone else's stickers or just adds some to their own name?” Sero asked. It was a valid question and silence fell among the group.
“We could each use different stickers.” Yaoyorozu suggested.

Everyone was excited for their new project and as soon as Ojirou came back they got to work. They drew even lines for a table that could include everyone’s name as well as ten empty fields next to each name. Everyone made their own sheet, though eventually people started scribbling on others, added smiley faces or other decorations. Amongst the chaos Dark Shadow even managed to scrawl his own name onto Bakugous paper.

Kirishima held Bakugou back, who was about to go and strangle Tokoyami, as Ochako whispered quietly to Hagakure “I didn’t even know Dark Shadow could write.”

Once they were finally all finished with drawing their papers, Jirou spoke up about one more important thing that was missing. “Do you have any more stickers?” she asked Mina.

“Oh… actually, no. I don’t.” She admitted.
“Does anyone else have stickers?” Everyone shook their head.
“We could just sign our name.” Kirishima said at the same time Hakakure addressed Yaoyorozu.”Could you make some?” No one needed to actually see her to know she looked hopeful.

“I’m not sure… Technically I can but it is really difficult to make something so small and detailed. Especially if I have to imagine a design myself.” She admitted.
“We should not exploit Yaoyorozu’s quirk like that!” Ida cut in.
“Hey! You made me charge your phone just yesterday!” Kaminari pointed out.
“We could just buy some.” Bakugou said with an eye roll at everyone’s stupidity. But just as Kaminari he was ignored by the others.

“Maybe Mei from support could make some.” Midoriya said.
“Oh that would be cool! We could all design our own! Or come up with a design for someone else.” Mina said with a glint in her eyes.
“I want a lightning bolt!” Kaminari immediately said. “Kirishima, you’ll get a rock!”
“Why should I get a rock? That sounds boring.” The red head said.
“Dude. Your quirk.” Sero laughed.
“So what do you get? A tape roller?”
“This is getting better and better!” Mina exclaimed. “Let’s ask her! Maybe they have something to make stickers with!”

Within less than twenty minutes the entirety of class 1-A stood in front of the support class dorm 1-H. Luckily Mei was there and really excited to see them all. Unfortunately she wasn’t nearly as enthusiastic once she heard what they came for. She was more into support items. She did recommend them someone from the General education class though who apparently was interested in art and design.

Class 1C was very skeptical when they found an entire class of Hero students at their dorm, but the girl Mei told them about was willing to help. What followed was a big discussion that almost turned into a fight as people fought over what others should get and what they wanted themselves. Mina and Kaminari teamed up and the general studies girl found their ideas good too.

In the end she had to shoo them all out and told them she would bring them the stickers the next day. She neither confirmed nor denied what design ideas she would use.
