Those Sick Days

Summary:

Bakugou Katsuki and Y/N Grow Up in the hospital, same illness, similar interests, and one hell of a love story.

Work Text:

The young Katsuki Bakugou sat on his bed at the hospital, staring out the window. He had only been in the hospital a few hours and they already gave him a permanent room, his five year old mind processed it as a prize because he was the best so he had his own room.

Little did his innocent little mind know that this room would be his home away from home for a very long time.

As the boy was spaced out staring out the window, his parents were outside the door, distressed, trying to find a way to tell their 5-year old son, their only child, that he was sick.

As two years pass the boy soon learns about the lung condition that is slowly taking over his life, little by little.

For these two year he made frequent visits to his room at the hospital, never had he felt so alone that was until today.

Katsuki was heading up to his room after a short trip to the cafeteria. Passing by all the closed doors that were leading up to his room. At least most of them were closed. One door, two doors away from his to be exact, was open. The muffled sound of crying escaping the slightly ajar door.

Katsuki was normally one to mind his own business, but for some reason the sad sound pulled at his curiosity. He approached the door and peeked inside. His eyes widened slightly at the sight.

It was a young girl, she had (H/L) (H/C) hair and was sitting in a bed decorated with a floral pattern. The girl looked to be around the same age as Katsuki, this fact only strengthened Katsuki’s curiosity.

“Hey weirdo, why are you crying.” His words seemed to startle her as she quickly turned away, wiping her tears.

“I-I’m not” her voice replies shakily.

“Ya you are, you were just crying”

“I was not” she replied her voice raised slightly more

“Was too.”

“Was not.”

“Was too.”

“Was not.”

“What's your name?” The boy's question for some odd reason caught her off guard.

“(Y/N) (L/N), what's yours?”

“Katsuki Bakugou”

The ash blonde scanned around the room before his eyes landed on a poster. It was not just any poster, it was a ‘Star Wars Return of the Jedi’ Poster.

“You like star wars,” The boy questioned while pointing to the poster.

The girl gave a small nod. Her answer pleased Katsuki, good to know that she wasn’t a complete weirdo. She at least had good taste in movies.

“Katsuki, where are you, it's time to take your meds” One of the nurses called from the hallway.

“Well see you around weirdo” He said with a wave as he left the girl in her room.

Little did these two know that this single conversation would soon blossom into a full friendship. Years passed and their bond grew stronger and stronger.

They were both at the hospital frequent enough to see each other on the regular, they watched movies together, took their meds together, they even pranked the nurses together.

Their lungs only grew worse over time, but as long as they had each other they were fine.

When both kids were 14, they were stuck in the hospital for christmas. For most people it was one of the worst situations possible, but not for them.

Being together with Die hard (I Don’t care what anyone says this is a christmas movie) and popcorn was their ideal way to spend christmas together. It was about halfway through the movie when Katsuki finally confessed his feelings to (Y/N) and she returned them.

Lets just say it was the best gift they could have given the staff who were stuck there.

One night, Seven months later one of (Y/N)’s Lungs collapsed while she was walking through the hallway to get water, and she was rushed into emergency surgery.

Katsuki got no sleep that night, he was an emotional mess. The most important person in the world might not survive the night.

The next morning Katsuki was relieved when he found out she was fine and he was let into the room.

“Hey Katsuki” (Y/N) croaked as katsuki took his place by her side. She studied his face, it was clear he had been crying.

“Don’t you ever fucking do that to me again weirdo, you understand?”

She laughed at his worried but serious expression, the sad reality is she couldn’t promise that this wouldn’t happen again.

“I’ll try” Your answer causes him to sigh, but he understands your answer.

“How are you feeling?”

“Like one of my lungs just collapsed” She joked, hoping to lighten the mood. The attempt had only made katsuki’s scowl deepen.

She then scooched over and patted the space next to her, signaling the male to lie down next to her. He immediately laid by her side and snaked his arms around her, but not tight enough to hurt her. After all she just got out of surgery.

He rested his head on top of hers as she . “You know how worried I was that I might lose you.”

“Kats-”

“No, before you say anything let me finish”

Katsuki sighed “You are the most important person in the world to me and it hit me last night after one of the nurses told me I couldn’t fucking come and see you,” He took a pause rethinking over his words to make sure they came out right “You and I are different from most people, We don’t know how long we have left.”

He takes a shaky pause before continuing “I would much rather have a short amount of time and spend it all with you than have forever without you, you are the one person I want to spend the rest of my life with and without you I have nothing to live for.”

He looks down into your eyes, to him your (E/C) eyes are the most beautiful things he has ever seen. “I love you (Y/N), so fucking much and never forget it.”

You were stunned at his words, you process them as you stare into his crimson eyes. Katsuki had never been one for words, He always showed his love for you by actions instead. The fact that he poured his feelings to you showed how scared he is to lose you.

You take his face in your hands and smile. “I think as long as you don’t forget that I love you too, we won’t have any problem.” You then connect your lips with his for a short but passionate kiss.

You spend the next few minutes in silence, staring into eachothers eyes. You two just wanted to savor the moment so no words were needed. They say the eyes are the window to the soul, and you 100% believed it. The amount of love and adoration you could see in Katsuki’s eyes was overflowing, the best thing was you looked at him the exact same way.

This loving silence was cut short by you sneezing. This scared the living daylight out of Katsuki, causing him to fall off the bed. The whole scenario made you burst out in a fit of giggles.

Your laugh was by far Katsuki’s favorite noise. But that sweet sound was also cut short by you beginning to cough. This causes Katsuki to frantically get off the floor and hand you water.

After taking a sip from the glass that was handing you, the laughing started back up. Katsuki soon began to laugh at the entire situation alongside you.

Even though the condition you both shared wasn’t something to be happy about, you could say that you lived for those sick days that you could just spend with the love of your life.
