Goodie List: Sato

Summary:

Doing nice things for others truly was a challenge. Bakugou realizes how little he might actually know about some of his classmates. He is too stubborn to give up though, so he will find something nice to do for Sato...in his own way.

Three times Bakugou does Sato a favor. (Can be read alone or out of order to the other chapters of this series).

Notes:

Hello :) This chapter is much shorter and as you might notice, I really was running low on ideas for Sato. I hope you still like the chapter.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Sato sat in 1A's classroom, at his table on Monday, not quite managing to stifle a yawn. First period was just over and now they all waited for the second class of the day to begin. It did not matter that Sato was at the coolest high school there was, the first day of the week still sucked. Most of their class felt more tired after the weekend, except the few disciplined lunatics who liked to get up early even if it was the weekend.

Sato was so lost in thought, he did not think much about Bakugou getting up from his seat and walking over in his direction. It wasn't until the blonde stopped right in front of his seat that Sato looked up. What where the chances of Bakugou wanting to speak to him of all people? He thought Bakugou wanted to talk to Todoroki, but there he stood, looking down on him with a piece of paper in his hand.

"Umm... yes?" Sato tried to find out what was going on. He wasn't the only curious one.
"Have you ever made a poppy seed cake?"
"Actually...no. I don't think so."
"You can try this recipe." Bakugou held out the piece of paper he carried all the way over.
Sato took the recipe and read over it. "Thanks." He said a little baffled.

"What is a poppy seed cake?" Todoroki asked, looking over to see what was going on next to his desk.
"It's a cake made out of poppy seeds, icehot. What did you think it was?" Bakugou answered.
"It's a common cake in Poland and Germany I heard." Sato attempted to explain better. "Where did you get this recipe from?" He asked Bakugou.

"My grandmother gave it to me."
"Oh, have you ever made it yourself?"
"It's not difficult, or like I can't do it. I just thought you'd like to try the recipe too." Bakugou grumbled.
"Of course, yeah!" Sato hastily said. How did Bakugou turn everything into an attack? "Why don't we make it together in the afternoon?"

"Great idea!" Ochako said, shamelessly listening in to the conversation. Kouda just nodded eagerly.
"We'll see." Bakugou said, before turning around and walking back to his seat, right as their next lesson was about to start.

After school, Sato took his time checking if they had enough ingredients. He wanted to give Bakugou the chance to approach, which the blonde did, with a slight slouch and his hands in his pockets.
"Looks like we have everything we need." Sato informed him. He enjoyed baking with others and he already taught some of his classmates. He was sure Bakugou would need less teaching, but he wasn't sure how peaceful the process would go.

Sato enjoyed baking. It was a peaceful and relaxing activity for him and he didn't look forward to Bakugou ruining things with his grouchy mood. In retrospect, Sato should have had more faith in the blonde. Bakugou usually was pretty calm when he cooked. He knew his way around the kitchen and as long as no one provoked him, he didn't explode anything or anyone.
They worked very well together. While Sato got the correct cake pans out, Bakugou started measuring flower. They didn't talk much, aside from letting the other know how many grams something needed to be, or what the next step in the recipe was. Clean up went fast and they went their own ways until the cakes were ready. Bakugou's grandmother's recipe turned out great. It was something new for everyone, but no one said no to Sato's creations. Needless to say, Sato thanked Bakugou by adding a muffin sticker to his poster for doing nice things.

-----.....-----.....-----
When Bakugou agreed to Mina's silly little idea to have posters documenting the entire class doing favors for one another Bakugou was both determined as well as wary on how he was supposed to do little favors for twenty people. And not just one favor per person but ten. Sure, ten might not seem like much and there were many little thing one could do...but the problem was, he barely interacted with most of his classmates outside of training or group assignments.

Sato was one of the people in class Bakugou did not find completely annoying. They usually out of each others way, and if they happened to pass paths they acknowledged each others presence but that was about it. Sharing a recipe with Sato had been a desperate attempt driven by his competitive spirit. It had worked out well, but he wasn't too happy he exchanged- and therefore basically paid to get a stupid sticker. It was embarrassing to be honest.

Bakugou preferred to pay close enough attention, so he could casually offer help. The only problem was, Sato wasn't a person who usually needed help or encouragement. The only hobby Bakugou knew the other had was baking and he did not look forward to hand over ten recipes or bake ten cakes. There had to be another way.

"Hey, what hobbies do you have?" Bakugou asked Sato, while their class all took a break from training.
He chose to pretend he did not hear Sero's stage- whispered "Is he trying to make friends?" to Kaminari.
"Maybe he's trying to find a way how to make his death look like an accident." Kaminari stage whispered back. This time Bakugou did not remain as calm and he snapped at the two, successfully chasing them off. "So?" Bakugou turned back to Sato who looked at him warily. "What? I'm not trying to kill you!"

"Somehow that sound's exactly like something a murderer would say..." Sato muttered. "I like cooking." Sato said.
"No shit. I knew that already. What else do you like?"
"Umm..." Sato found the situation more strange by the second, but he was willing to go along with things. Kirishima was within sight and he trusted the red head to save him from Bakugou's wrath if he ever needed it.

"I don't have any other hobbies. I like to read and listen to music...normal things I guess."
"Yeah. That's not helpful at all." Bakugou grumbled.
"May I ask, why you wanted to know?"
"Just wondering. I thought I did not know much about you." Bakugou said and got up. He definitely did not run away from a situation that looked to get even more awkward.

Asking had not helped at all. He was back at the beginning. Why was it so much more difficult to do nice things for some people? Bakugou did not know, if someone talked to Sato or if he figured it out on his own. Either way, Bakugou did not complain when Sato asked him if he could bring him something from the store. It felt like he was being pitied, but as pathetic as it was, Bakugou would take the chance. It wasn't as if he expected or demanded stickers from others, but one could hope.

Bakugou went to the grocery store and briefly thought of getting Sato the ingredients as a present, but decided against it. Fist, because it seemed way too obvious and second, because he wanted to save his budget just in case a better reason came up.

"Thank you, for getting these for me!" Sato said, taking the shopping bag from Bakugou.
"It's no problem. I wanted to go out for a run anyway." He shrugged off. He was still glad to find a new muffin sticker on his poster later that day.

-----.....-----......-----

Sato was generally a quite tidy person in the kitchen. It basically was a necessity with how much he baked. He was used to cleaning up fast so he could get started on another project right away. Of course the exceptions only confirmed the norm. It was a relatively hectic day. He mainly started stress baking as soon as classes were out, also in an effort to make enough for the whole class.

There was only one big problem, that caused him even more stress. He completely forgot they had a group project due and they wanted to discuss things today. He felt even more stressed, when Bakugou approached the kitchen.

"Hey, do you want to use the kitchen? I'm sorry for the mess, I'll clean it up right away..." Sato apologized, reaching for a towel to wipe the counter, but then realized it would be a waste of time before he got the bowls out of the way.
"Don't bother. You have to meet Kirishima and Momo, right? They are already waiting. I can finish up here."
"Really? That would be great. Could you check the cake in half an hour?" Sato asked, already half way out the kitchen."

"Yeah." Bakugou agreed, giving Sato the confirmation he needed before rushing off. Bakugou took a moment to take in the state of the kitchen. It honestly wasn't too bad. Sero had worked as efficiently and cleanly as possible. The few bowls and utensils were washed fast and the counter wiped down within seconds. Bakugou had more than enough time to get started on his dinner plans.

The cake needed some more time when he checked on it, but it gave him an idea. Bakugou had noticed Momo's favorite tea set earlier but hadn't thought much of it until now. He could not remember Momo making any tea after practice. In fact, she had been rather late herself and only rushed up shortly before Sato. Bakugou set water to boil and looked through Momo's overwhelming amount of teas she stored in the kitchen.

"Hey, do you mind if I make myself a shake real quick?" Bakugou was interrupted by Midoriya. The blonde turned to the other with a mild glare, before giving a huff and stepping out of the way.
"Are you making tea for Kirishima?" Midoriya asked, getting some protein powder out of one of the shelves. He received a strange look from Bakugou and half expected to receive no answer at all, when Bakugou spoke up.

"Ponytail and Sato are studying with him." Bakugou poured the hot water over one of the expensive tea blends. Midoriya nodded, not sure what exactly to say to that and they went to work in silence. Midoriya shook his mixture and Bakugou went back to stirring whatever he was cooking. From the looks of it some spicy soup.

"Can you keep an eye on this, while I bring the tea up?" Bakugou asked, causing Midoriya to almost choke on his shake in surprise.
"U-um...s-sure, Kacchan." He hastily agreed.
Bakugou looked into the oven once more, deciding to leave the cake in a little longer, though he turned off the heat.

Bakugou was on his way up the stairs, when he realized he had no idea which room they chose to study in. Since he already was on the boys side, he went to Kirishima's room first, hoping for the best. Making tea must have rewarded him with good karma because Kirishima called him in when he knocked. He balanced the tablet on one arm, so he could open the door.

"Oh wow!" Kirishima said, eyes shining brightly.
"You made us tea." Momo said no less surprised and immediately got up to take her precious tea set from him.
"Your cake is pretty much ready. Do you want me to take it out of the form or set it outside to cool?" Bakugou asked Sato.

"Oh, no. Thank's though. You can just set it on a tray on the counter or a table if you need the space." Sato shook his head.
"Okay."
"Hey, any idea who's making dinner today?" Kirishima asked.
"I think it's Jirou?" Momo offered.
"Not sure. I wanted some soup, so I made that. You can have some if you want."

"Ah...that's okay." Kirishima said, knowing full well he'd probably burn his tongue off if he tried so much as a spoon full. "I'll see whatever is made later."
"Thanks again for bringing up the tea. We should get back to our project though." Momo reminded everyone and Bakugou took that as his clue to head back downstairs.

Midoriya was slowly stirring in the pot while looking at his phone. He barely even noticed Bakugou returning until the blonde stood practically right next to him.
"Oh, hey Kacchan." Midoriya said and stepped away so Bakugou could take over the spoon.
Bakugou grunted something, that Midoriya liked to pretend sounded like a "thanks" just when Midoriya exited the kitchen. Midoriya stopped and whirled around. He stared at Bakugou to see if there was any clue to what he thought he heard was true, but nothing in Bakugou's behavior indicated a thing. Midoriya held back a sigh. So far he was the only one who still hadn't given Bakugou any stickers at all and he really wondered when he would get the chance to.

"Does it count as a favor from you, when you trust me to watch your food?" Midoriya blurted out.
"What?" Bakugou turned to him confused.
"Nothing! Nothing!"
"No....I don't think so. If you got something to say you say it." Bakugou challenged.

Midoriya gulped. "Well...I've just been wondering...well...I mean I noticed...um...that I am the only one who hasn't given you a sticker yet..."
Bakugou turned away with his jaw clenched shut. "Wait your turn." The blonde eventually grit out.
"I'm looking forward to it." Midoriya smiled somewhat uncomfortable. Either he just spiked Bakugou's competitive senses or he just signed his fate to never receive a single favor ever. Midoriya got a slight glimmer of home before he turned around once more, when Bakugou mumbled out something more. "Thanks for keeping an eye on my soup." Midoriya had to turn around fast before Bakugou saw his bright smile. It wasn't a favor worth a sticker, but he would take Bakugou's thanks any day.

Even without Midoriya, Bakugou had earned himself a new sticker for his 'doing nice things for others' poster that evening. The sticker was shaped like a muffin and there was no way one could mistake it. Everyone also got a slice of Sato's delicious cake. All in all, it was a pretty good day. Bakugou would just have to think of a way to do something nice for a certain green haired classmate. As ridiculous as those Brokoli stickers with All Might's face looked like, he really wanted them to fill up the grow which was most empty so far.

So, what do you think? What else could Bakugou have done? Next chapter will be about Shoto :)
