Work Text:

Katsuki notices how the entire day, the sky has been grey. When he woke up, it was grey. When he was walking from the dorms to his class, it was grey. On training, it was grey. And now, wild picking his backpack to go back home for the weekend, it was still grey. The curious thing was that it wasn't raining at all. Not a single drop for all he knows. Maybe the sky just was grey because of the clouds… not a necessity for a storm.

“Ready to go?” Shota asked him when he was in the common room. Hitoshi was already waiting in the car.

“Yeah, let's go” The dorms were already empty. Shota always was the last to go, supervising that all the kids had gone with their families. Somethings he and Hitoshi went home with Hizashi, but Hizashi went to get Eri at lunchtime because she had a routine doctor appointment.

“Probably today there will be a storm” Aizawa commented by looking up at the sky. Katsuki gulp. Is not so much that he was scare of storms, of course not.  But he didn't like them. He would prefer everything else than a storm. It just made him remember memories that he preferred not remembering. Memories that made him feel angry, scared, and weak.

“Hope it isn't too bad. Don't want Eri scared” Katsuki said, and it was partially true. He didn't want his little sister to be scared because of a storm, he knew loud noises that weren't Hizashi’s voice scare her. But he knew that wasn't the only reason why he was not happy that a storm was coming.

“She is going to be fine. If anything, she has us” Aizawa said, both of them already in UA’s parking. He hopes that he would be fine too.

To Katsuki’s luck, by the time they arrived home, it was finally starting to rain. Nothing strong, just rain falling softly from the sky. This was the type of rain that Katsuki liked. The type where you can hear it, but is not loud. The type when it's a very good idea to get a cup of tea and sit near the window. But the anticipation didn't make that possible for him. He couldn't relax if a storm was probably coming.

A storm never brings anything good. People could have accidents more easily. There was too much noise. And people without a home had a harder time. And maybe that's what hit more closer home. He has a lot of memories of those times he was kicked out of the house, a lot of times down this circumstances. One would think that repetitive exposure would make you used to it, but it didn't work for him. Every time was just worst.

“Hey, Katsuki” Hitoshi has brought him out of his tough while he was still looking through the kitchen window. It was getting dark, and the rain was getting heavier “Are you ok? You have been really distant and quiet since we got home”

“None of your business” these days is already not a custom for him to talk to his family like that. He hates to admit it, but he has gotten softer and mellow for them. But now he was on edge. It's his first storm with his new family and he didn't know what would happen tonight.

“Now I want to know what's happening to you”

“Don't you have nothing better to do?” He wanted Hitoshi to just go so he could keep spiraling in peace.

“Well, I was going to ask if you wanted to watch tv with me and Eri while the food was ready, so no. I wanna know what's happening to you”

“Fucking nothing is happening, I'm going to my room. Call me for dinner” He got up and start walking. Was he raising suspicion? yes. Did he care? At this point, no. He just wanted to get over his drama before dinner and then close himself in his room all over again to avoid causing trouble. He didn't want to risk it.

By dinner time, the storm was already formed. Heavy rain, thunder, and some lighting were already shown. Katsuki wasn't able to speak. He didn't want to speak. Anything that he does could explode in his face and made him be in a situation that he would not like. He knew everybody at the table was looking at him weirdly, probably Hitoshi already talked to Aizawa about him. Ugh, he wasn't ready for a talk.

When he finished his dinner, all the food almost push inside of him because he wasn't hungry, he steps up from the seat to get his plates to the sink. But before he could get there, the strongest thunder that he had ever heard in a while hit down, starting him, making his plates fall to the floor on his feet, and making the power go off. He heard Eri scream too, but all noise was starting to buffer. He had fuck up, badly. He was carrying 3 plates, and because he was a scary cat for a fucking thunder, he had broken all of them. Know he was going to be thrown to the street. In the middle of a storm with an injured foot. He wasn't ready for this again. The wind. The rain. The cold. The noise. Everything was going to happen again. Because he couldn't stop fucking everything up. He even had been mean to Hitoshi and he was in that house before of him. He was so scared. FUCK.

“Katsuki! Hey, I need you to look at me!”Aizawa screams jacking him out of his tough, and there he notices that he could not breathe. He was having a panic attack. Grate. “Breath with me kid, you are ok. It was just a horribly strong thunder but you are safe with your family”

“Ple-please n-not ma-make me g-go” He said the best he could, still struggling to breathe “P-please! Do-don't kick m-me out” He already feels tears going down his cheeks. Sobs making it harder to breathe. He hated that he gas begging, but he could make that again, he just couldn't.

“What?... Kid you are not going nowhere but to the couch to check your foot and for you to calm down. You are not going out of the house. Now, follow my breath, I know you can do it”.

“I-i can't do i-it aga-aing!” His legs gave up, falling on his knees where the plates have been broken, but he didn't care about the pain. He hardly could feel anything except the thunder and darkness surrounding him.” please”

He fell 2 callused hands on his cheeks, holding his face, when he looked up, it was Aizawa looking at him softly, rubbing his cheeks with his thumbs.

“Katsuki, you are not going outside to the storm, I would never make you go. You are staying here with your family. Please breathe with me, it going to be ok. We will take care of your legs, and then we will talk about what's happening ok?. Come on” When his breath was a little more even, Aizawa helped him get up, but not later another terrible lighting glow up the house, and thunder came after.

Before he could panic again, Shota hugged him tightly, wild Katsuki just hide his face on Shota’s chest. Perks of begging small, he guesses. When he was calmer, Shota helps him get to the living room, where Hizashi was already there with various candles and a first aid case.

“Hey, listener let's check does feet for yours” Hizashi said softly, putting both of Katsuki’s feet on his lap to check them. Thanks to the light of the fire, he could see some strings of blood on his feet, but nothing too bad. It hurt like a bitch because while disinfecting the wound, every time there was a clap of thunder, he finched.

When everything was set, he saw Aizawa making him rest his head on his lap, brushing Katsuki’s hair softly. Hizashi already left, taking all the medical equipment that he used, and went to check on the other kids.

“Kats… care to explain what you mean with ‘don't make me go’?” Katsuki looked straight at him, and he knew he had to tell, he had to speak about this. “I promise you that I'm not mad at you at all, those plates mean nothing to me. I just want you to tell me what's happening to be able to help you and make the next storms less frightening for you”

Katsuki knew he should tell him. Now with his head not panicking he knew that Shota or Hizashi would never harm him in that way. Plus, he has been with all this bullshit carried by himself, so maybe it was better to share it with someone and start to heal.

“When I was 10, mom thought it was the perfect age to add a new punishment for me. Kicking me out was so easy for her. When I was been annoying or she just didn't want anything to do with me, she would throw me out of the house and wouldn't let me back, sometimes, 3 days later. But then she found a way to shift the punishment”

“It was a very heavy storm. Heavy rain, horrible thunder, and lightning all over the sky. She and I were having a fight. I must have been 12 at the time. She just graved me, opened the door, and throw me again into the street, in the middle of a storm. I didn't even have shoes on”

“I was the most horrible experience ever. The wind, rain, and thunder all felt 100% worst than inside home. I stayed in a part under one of the playgrounds, but it works for nothing. The rain was starting to hurt as it was dropping in my skin, and the lightning and thunder looked like a monster wanting to kill me. And the worst was that after I returned home, I got a bad cold because of the rain, but mom only was saying how everything was my fault, how, I was a problem for her, and that she wished she didn't let me inside so I could spend the cold out. I was seriously terrified that if she did that”

“And after that became common, kicking me out in a storm. And someone would maybe get used to it. And I did get used to being kicked out. But not in a storm. Every time I was kicked out in the middle of a storm it was just worst. And I grew scared of storms because I never knew if I was going to be kicked out and would have to go under that torture again” He finally finished, hiding his face on Aizawa’s stomach, will he still was petting his hair.

“I'm sorry for the show I cause over there. I know it stupid to be scare of thunder at my age, I know thunder can't hurt me, it just sounds, but I can't help it”

“Kid, you don't need to apologize. And, for what you are telling me, Thunder did hurt you. Is not a nonsensical fear, altho if I would have been that, it would have been ok too. You were trow to the street on storm night, and that is not a game, nor funny. It's ok if you are scare and do not like thunder, but just know that you would not have to do this anymore. You may have missions on storms when you are a Pro-hero, but that's a different circumstance, isn't it?” Katsuki nodded.

“You are going to be safe here every storm that comes and If all you need is to be curled with someone, cry, or panic, we are going to be here to support you and help you. We are family, and we love you kid”

They stayed silent for a moment, Katsuki still flinching with every thunder, but it was better when Shota was there. Made it easier for him. Then he hears people coming downstairs, so he got up from Shota’s lap, and immediately was tackle by one of Eri’s hugs.

“Kitkat… are you afraid of storms,” Eri asked quietly.

“Yeah… and you?”

“Yeah…” she said, tightening the hug “M-maybe we can be scare together… and then it won't be scary anymore” She a

Said looking at him, her eyes a little bit puffy for crying.

“I would like that very much Eri”

The family decided on a sleepover to pass the night. All of them were in Hizashi and Shota’s room, which had the biggest bed. Eri was sleeping on top of Hizashi, Hitoshi was at the foot of the bed, curled in a burrito blanket, and Katsuki was in the middle, curled to Shota, and already sleep because of today’s exausment.

He was still afraid of storms, but he would be ok. His family was there with him.
