Work Text:

"Suguru"

A whisper in the middle of the night coming outside of a so familiar door, followed by a knock, a sound that was no longer new to Geto's ears.

"Suguru"

That whisper again. Geto slowly stirred in his bed, hand coming to his eyes to rub the sleep away as he realised it was three am. He sighed as he sat on his bed, a muffled yawn coming from his mouth as he roughly tied his dark hair in a low soft bun before opening the door of his bedroom, where Gojo stood in his pyjamas, his white locks down and his round black pitch glasses over his eyes as usual.

"Can't sleep again?" Geto asked, leaving space for Gojo to enter the room, who nodded as he walked inside:"You can go back to sleep, I just didn't want to be alone in my room" Gojo said as he read the tiredness on his friend's face. Geto only shrugged with his shoulders as he walked towards the sliding door in the back of his room and opened it, which faced the little inner square garden of the dorms for the students. Gojo followed his movements with careful eyes as the other one went to sit on the wooden pavement of the outside corridor, his legs dangling just above the grass as he waited for Gojo, who, like every other night, followed Geto once he had settled down and went to lay down next to him, his head resting over his thighs. Geto took Gojo's glasses and put them carefully next to himself. That was new.

The moon that was shining high and bright in the dark sky of that silent night, suddenly reflecting its light in the eyes that had the infinity in them.

"I'll get tired if I don't-" Gojo tried to say, but Geto stopped him before he could finish, a gentle hand going to cover his eyelids.

"I know you get tired if you don't cover your eyes, the glasses are just a little too uncomfortable when you're trying to fall asleep, though, I thought you'd feel better like this" Geto explained, making Gojo do nothing but smile softly.

Then it was silent. Geto looking for the wonders of the little garden in front of him, thinking about all the times he and Gojo had sat under the old cherry tree in the middle of it, chattering about everything and nothing as the pink flowers made their way down on the the ground as a soft wind blew through its branches.

They were never quiet, they were always talking about something, teasing the people around them and each other.
In moments like this though, where one of them showed some kind of fragility to the other, they were silent. The only presence of the other one, the safety of trusting them, as comfort for the hard times.

They would usually stay in that position for an hour or less, in complete silence, until Gojo would start to finally get sleepy, and then they'd get up, Geto pulling out the extra futon he kept under his bed for Gojo to sleep in.

But tonight was different. It was all too quiet, nothing could be heard, neither the noise from the far city neither the sound of the forest and the animals that surrounded their school. Not even the wind, and in cloudless night, where the sky seemed frozen, it looked like the time had stopped forever.

Gojo slowly pulled Geto's hand away from his face, his eyelids opening a couple of seconds later. Ice crystals staring at the face above him. Geto was never going to get use to them, to the sensations they made him feel. That tingling in his stomach and that skip of a heart beat.

"Are you okay?" Geto asked in a whisper, Gojo nodded but hesitated to talk. It was unusual from him. One thing about Gojo Satoru was that he never thought twice about what was going to come out of his mouth, that it was a praise or an insult, that it was respectful or disrespectful, he couldn't care less.

"What?" Geto looked at him with, now, curious eyes. Gojo smirked, making the one above him rolling his eyes jokingly. The hesitation he thought he saw was already gone. His cocky best friend was back. But then the curve on his lips softened in a more sincere smile.

"Maybe I should let my ability tire me and keep my eyes open, looking at you while I do so doesn't sound bad" Geto raised an eyebrow, the light of the full moon shining bright on his skin:"What's that supposed to mean?" He asked with the slightest chuckle. The features of Gojo's faces seemed to soften a little more:"Nothing, I just think you're handsome" he said, and this time he saw some red spread across his friend's face who hand turned his head to the sky:"You're talking nonsense" Geto replied, his voice trembling a little. If Gojo was trying to mess around with him, that wasn't a good moment, because he couldn't handle his feelings in the deepest hours of the night, when he was tired and when they were so close to each other.

"Oh, am I?" The white haired man asked, laughing a little:"I don't think I am, Suguru, look at me" Gojo pleaded, taking one of his friend's hand in his own. Another unexpected thing. Geto immediately turned his head to look at Gojo, surprised by the sudden action, only to find the other one staring at their interlaced fingers with mesmerized eyes:"Are your hands always this cold?" Gojo asked after a couple of moments, eyes going to meet Geto's, who, however, didn't respond, his heart beating way to loud in his chest for him to hear anything beside that.

"Do you want to know why I can't sleep lately?" Geto only nodded, his eyes moving slowly from their hands to Gojo's face, then back to their hands.

"I miss you at night" that sentence came in a whisper as Gojo caressed Geto's fingers with his own:"At first I didn't undestand, I started coming to your room simply because you are my closest friend here, but then I realised that when you're around I feel completely different, Suguru" he paused, taking a deep breath, his eyes locked to Geto's:"and then I started to think that maybe I liked you" another soft smile making its way through the white haired man's lips:"And now I'm sure I do".

Geto didn't make a sound, his mouth slightly agape, his cheeks tinted with a shade of pink lightened by the moon rays.
Gojo brought Geto's knuckles to his lips, kissing them softly.

"I want to keep your hands warm Suguru, will you let me?" Geto was speechless. He felt paralyzed at the other's actions, in the best way possible. Gojo looked at him with peaceful, waiting eyes, until a small nod with a sweet smile came from the other man. Gojo's smile widened, tightening his grip on Geto's hand and kissing his fingers again:"Is it too soon to tell you that I love you?" The white haired man asked with a soft giggle.

Geto finally chuckled, a bright smile spreading across his face, even brighter than the full moon of that weird night, as he shook his head in a no:"I love you too, Satoru".

And with those words, the night started to move again, with its little sounds and movements, taking away with itself another secret.
