Tokoyami Needs Sleep

Summary:

Hero work has become more stressful for Tokoyami as of recently. So much so that he's too tired to do anything really.

Notes:

Work Text:

Tokoyami was incredibly tired. Hero work had been taking a toll on him recently due to a spike in villainy the past couple of weeks. They especially loved showing up at night, so most of his patrols always ended up the same. He kicked the villains ass, got tired, & went home at around 2:00 a.m.

Needless to say, he was stressed. It also sucked that both of his boyfriends had already woken up & left for their own hero works by the time he was up. This left him alone & bored for a good few hours.

He woke up this morning just as tired, expecting for his lovers to already be gone. Sure enough, the bed was empty. He sighed, turning over to grab his phone. He clicked it on & checked the time. Hm, 2 p.m. He slept in quite a bit. Usually, he’d wake up at around noon. It was a little unhealthy, sure, but he somehow managed to still keep up his energy. They’d be back in an hour or so. At least he wouldn’t be super lonely all day again.

He laid back down again, hoping to sleep a little bit more before they returned. Dark Shadow popped out, just to annoy him, & to tell him that he was hungry.

Tokoyami groaned in annoyance. “The kitchen isn’t far from here,” he said. “Go pour your own cereal.”

Dark Shadow growled a little. He would. If he could eat.

Either Tokoyami was messing with him, or he was too tired to remember. Either way, Dark Shadow was having none of it. The quirk & its owner bickered with one another until something fluffy found its way onto Tokoyami.

Yuwai, Kouda’s rabbit, had hopped on their bed. It was something she usually did whenever one of them woke up.

Tokoyami gently pet the rabbit’s head, now fully awake. He rubbed his eyes, getting out of bed with the fluff ball of a rabbit in his hands. Dark shadow followed, hovering over him. Tokoyami thought for a moment, placing Yuwai down. Should he really be eating breakfast at this time? Sure, he was hungry, but it was around lunch time already.

He looked down at Yuwai, who was twitching her nose while staring at the bird headed man. “What are you looking at?” he inquired.

Yuwai looked around before returning to the room, scurrying along & staying there. Tokoyami huffed. That rabbit was impossible sometimes. If only he knew what she was thinking. Then her actions would be much easier to understand.

Dark Shadow swirled around its owner. “So are you just gonna stand in the middle of the kitchen orrrr?”

Tokoyami snapped out of his thoughts. Right, he was getting something. Food, right? Hm, maybe he should cook something this time. He wasn’t the best cook by any means, but it’d be nice, right? Especially since Shouji & Kouda would be returning from hero work soon. It’d be nice if they had a nice meal.

At least, he hoped it would turn out nice.

He yawned going to the sink & washing his hands. He went over to the fridge & looked inside. There wasn’t anything good in there. He could make soup. But that’d be boring. Plus, his beak couldn’t exactly sustain holding it without it spilling a little & looking funny. Sure, his boyfriends didn’t mind, but it still didn’t mean that it wouldn’t be embarrassing.

Making a salad would also be boring. Was that all he really knew how to cook? Some soup & some dumb salad? He sighed. To the internet it is.

He stared at his screen for nearly half an hour. No good food recipes. They were either too complicated, too boring, or too expensive to make.

‘Well that’s just great,’ he thought. There were eggs in the fridge. Maybe an omelet? Or he could just order something to deliver. Again . That seemed to be his only option.

He sat in the dining chair he was in for a few more minutes, putting his head in his hands. He was so tired right now, he couldn’t even remember his own name. He yawned again, standing up & heading over to the kitchen. Grilled cheese maybe? The more he thought of it, the more he didn’t want to have the doorbell ring & hurt his head further. He shook his head, exhausted. Yeah, grilled cheese sounds good right about now.

He turned on the stove & got the ingredients out while the pan heated. Every so often, he had to snap himself back into reality instead of dozing off otherwise, the food would burn or worse. He finally finished them & took them into the living room, turning the stove off first. Maybe he should’ve waited until they got home. It was such a simple meal, it only took mere minutes to complete.

Yuwai came back from the room, jumping on Tokoyami’s lap & rubbing her fur on him to find a comfortable spot.

“I suppose you smelled the food, yes?” he asked the rabbit.

Yuwai didn’t answer as she had no idea what he was saying. She only seated herself more comfy & rested her head to take yet another nap. Dark Shadow leaned on Tokoyami, also asking to be petted by the bird. Tokoyami obliged, gently petting its head as he watched the T.V.

Half an hour later, the two heroes came back in their civilian uniforms, seemingly tired. Tokoyami turned his head & smiled at their return before noticing a bag in one of Shouji’s hands. His expression changed to one of confusion.

“We brought lunch,” Shouji said, holding the bag up. “Thought you’d want some food since the fridge was kinda emp...ty…” He looked at the three sandwiches in front of Tokoyami. “Um, I guess we should’ve told you first instead, huh?” he chuckled, putting the bag down next to the sandwiches.

“Yes, that would’ve been best,” he answered. Great. So all of that trouble was for nothing. How wonderful.

Kouda sat down beside his boyfriend, placing a kiss on his cheek. Yuwai noticed her owner’s presence & crawled over to him, sitting in his lap. “It was a nice thought,” he said quietly, looking at the sandwiches.

“Yes, but a wasted effort nonetheless.”

“Did you have any breakfast?” Shouji asked, sitting on the other side of Tokoyami.

Tokoyami shook his head. “No. I woke up an hour ago so I saw it as pointless when lunch would be soon.” He yawned again, still tired. He really shouldn’t be though. He had coffee today. Nope, nevermind. He forgot to have coffee. Again. No wonder he was tired.

Shouji opened the bag revealing it to be some pizza. It smelled really good. Good enough to make Tokoyami smile a little.

The three ate pizza together, talking about their day & such. Tokoyami’s day was pretty boring so he just listened in on what the other two said. Thankfully, there were no serious attacks. Just a few crooks that tried & failed to steal, but nothing that was serious.

While listening to the story, Tokoyami began dozing off, snapping himself awake a few times. If only he didn’t sleep. He’d be able to stay up without being so exhausted. He had to work later in the night as well which also does not help.

He rested his eyes a little, closing them for just a second. When he opened them again, he was in his bed, snuggled between his boyfriends. Koud was sitting up, playing with Yuwai while Shouji was reading a book on his other side.

He looked outside. It was still bright out. He hadn’t slept for very long. He was still tired though. It was hard to keep his eyes open. Despite this, he really wanted to stay awake. He sat up, moving to head towards the kitchen to get some coffee.

A large hand made its way onto his shoulder. He looked over to see it was Kouda.

“You still look tired,” he said.

Tokoyami sighed, leaning on him a little. A simple touch was almost enough to make him drift again.“I am,” he answered.

“Y-you can still sleep a little bit…” Koud mumbled, moving his hand to pet Tokoyami’s head.

The feathered man practically melted into the warm touch, closing his eyes a little. He shook his head, moving to sit back up. Kouda stopped him again, eliciting a whine of annoyance from his small boyfriend.

“I want to talk with you two a little before I have to go,” Tokoyami mumbled.

“If we cuddle with you, would you sleep?” Shouji asked. He put an arm around Tokoyami, moving closer to him.

“You two can cuddle with each other,” the raven answered. “I need my coffee.”

“You need sleep,” Shouji said back.

Tokoyami sighed, turning his head to nuzzle into his pillow. It was so nice & soft. He really wanted to sleep. After a moment of thought, he nodded. “If it makes you both happy,” he said. “I’ll sleep.”

“Good,” Shouji said, wrapping his arms around the two & pulling them close.

Tokoyami stayed in silence, moving a little until he found a comfortable spot. His face was pressed against Kouda’s chest while Shouji nuzzled into his feathers. “Thank you dears,” he said, starting to drift off. “I love you...”

“We love you too…” the two replied, allowing Tokoyami to sleep peacefully until night.
