Re-writing the 'More Than The Luthor Name' series now that I feel like a bit of a better writer.

You can't adopt kids like they're puppies, y'know, Kara.

Work Text:

Lena looked up, but she immediately knew it was a mistake as soon as Kara's pout came into view. The Kryptonian was nothing if not predictable, and Lena knew it all too well. And yet, here she was, looking at Kara like she had a choice in the matter. It turned out, she didn't. "But Lena." Here, Lena noticed the pout somehow grow even bigger. "We need to give them a home, you know that as well as I do."

"I don't think babies just 'need a home' Kara darling." Lena tried to reason with her girlfriend. "Babies are a lot more work than dogs, y'know. We'd have to live with our choice for at least 18 years." She patiently waited for a beat. Then, she slowly exhaled. "Are you sure you want this to happen? I mean, with me?" She asked quietly. Probably too quiet for those without super hearing to hear her, but luckily Kara was pretty super.

"Of course! I don't want to raise a child with ANYONE else, Lee. I love you." Kara insisted. "You're never getting rid of me. I'd walk down the aisle TODAY if that's what you wanted to do, Lena Luthor. The fact that you're a Luthor, which I know is what you're thinking, doesn't bother me at all. You're my Luthor, I'm your Super, and as long as you love me well.... I'd last seven decades with you." She announced firmly.

Lena blinked back tears, glancing away for a moment. Of course Kara knew what she was gonna be thinking. Kara knew everything; the good and the bad. "Okay. If you're sure," and Kara nodded enthusiastically here. "Then I guess we're going to adopt." She widely smiled as Kara wrapped her up into strong arms, spinning Lena around in a tight circle. "Oh, I love you so much! I can't wait to be moms with you, Lee. You're going to be their favourite mum, I just know it!" Kara enthused, squealing a little.

"I love you too, darling." She whispered, Lena looking over through the hospital's glass case where the babies were held. They'd been at the hospital to visit Maggie after she had been shot. Now that they were headed home, though, Kara had wanted to stop by and see the babies. They had seen a baby with an unknown parent, and no name. Just "Baby A" in the center of the little case where "Baby A" was held.

Kara and Lena headed back into the nursery with a firm determination, Lena's heels clicking on the way.

"Hello, can I help you? Are one of the kids yours?" A nurse kindly asked.

"We hope they can be." Kara gushed, much to the nurse's confusion.

"We're looking to adopt one, the Baby A? She doesn't have parents, does she." It wasn't a question, but the way Lena's voice inflected towards the end, she was making sure.

"No, no she doesn't. I'm not sure the adoption is that easily done though." The nurse stated with a little frown. "We can definitely start you on the process though, and keep Baby A until the government decides whether or not you can take her home." She said, her voice reassuring. Kara beamed. "That would be wonderful! We'll get the process started immediately," she promised, "But in the meantime, can we give her a name? I don't feel right leaving the baby without a name." She explained hopefully.

Lena nodded in agreement. "Every child deserves to know who they are, even if their parents don't know that." She agreed.

"Naturally. I think that's a great idea. What would you like to name her?" The nurse -- Jackie, the name tag read -- warmly responded.

"Sky. Her name will be Sky."

“A beautiful name for a beautiful little girl.” The nurse stated with a smile, brushing the back of her hand against Sky’s cheek. “And look at those eyes,” Jackie pointed out. “Definitely got waves of blue and green.”

Kara nudged her girlfriend. “I love her already. I wish we could take her with us now!” She enthused, beaming over at Lena before poking her pointer finger into Sky’s little fist very gently. “So sweet.” she cooed.

Lena knew logically that her ovaries could not explode at the sight of Kara Danvers holding a baby’s fist in her finger. However, that logical thought was not inside her brain at the moment. All she could think about now was the idea of raising a child with the woman she loved and who loved her in return.

“I’m sure my money can speed up the process of adoption, Kara.” Lena responded at last after regaining some of her composure. “But in the meantime, we can always shop for things to go in our in’kah’s room.” Kryptonian rolled off her tongue easily, voice low in Kara’s ear.

Kara’s eyes filled with tears. “I will be an Ieui. And my own Ieui will become an uzheiu.” She pronounced the terms for ‘mother’ and ‘grandmother’ quickly, brushing away the tears with her other hand. “Come on then, let’s get some things for our daughter.” She beamed slightly through those tears, reluctantly pulling away from Sky’s hand as she noticed blue and green eyes close shut.
